Barnabas is a name far less well known than his companion Paul, yet scripture shows us that Barnabas was "a good man whom the Holy Spirit...endowed with exceptional faith" Acts 11:24. Join us Sunday to hearthe Spirit-led adventures of the early church and the humble leadership of a man called Barnabas. Barnabas' faithful obedience was used by God to spread the good news of Jesus. Few know his name, but most of us can trace our own faith back to the faithfulness of this humble follower of Jesus.

The Kingdom of God on Earth as in Heaven Provide daily bread for all Generosity comes from a willing heart. Joy comes from encountering Jesus. Give freely in proportion to what you have. The more you give, the more you reap.
God designed the New Testament church that they follow His example in ministering and distributing to all. He met physical needs to introduce the concept that they can trust Him for their spiritual poverty. He desires that we treat each other as they are better than we are. We see each other humble and we are their servants. Ananias was operating under the influence of the devil. Peter called him out on it.

More blessed to give than receive.

Luke shows us the heart of the early church as it works to interpret what God desired of the People of God.
We are called to make our life one long gift for the sake of others.
Two of the marks of the early church were generosity and suffering. Hearing about how they carried out being the body of Christ as they carried out the continual work of Jesus we find ourselves encouraged and asking the question about where Jesus would have us be people of encouragement and generosity today knowing too that for the sake of the Gospel part of our story may involve suffering too.

Was the killing of Ananias and Sapphira a just punishment?
The primitive church in Acts can be described as a one heart community; they lived with the mentality that others came first. We can read two examples of this reality: a positive one, Barnabas, and a negative one, Ananias and Sapphira. Both of these examples challenge us to put others first.
