Welcome back to Just For This. Each week, host Rabbi Liz P.G. Hirsch (she/her) interviews women in leadership about women and leadership. Inspired by the story of Esther, we feature powerful stories of women who stand out in their fields, who have stepped up just for this moment. Our guest this week is Rabbi Angela Buchdahl. She is senior rabbi of Central Synagogue in New York City. She's the first woman to lead Central's Reform congregation in its 180-year history. She first joined Central Synagogue as senior cantor in 2006, and she was chosen by the congregation to be senior rabbi in 2014. We discuss the deep connections Jews have with each other around the world, the importance of ideological diversity, and why listeners should “Vote Reform” in the current World Zionist Congress election. Visit www.zionistelection.org to vote or www.vote4reform.org to learn more about the importance of standing up for our Reform values in Israel. By voting for the Vote Reform slate, you are standing up for a democratic and secure Israel and against our opponents who want to strip Reform Jews of their rights and funding. Voting is open through May 4. Vote Reform today. View the transcript here. Follow Just For This on instagram: @justforthispodcast

If you ever heard the name of John Collett Ryland before these podcasts, it was probably in regard to an infamous interchange he was reported to have had with William Carey. There are several accounts of it in print, but I especially like the details and perspectives that Dr. Michael Haykin provides in his biography of John Sutcliff, entitled “One Heart and One Soul”. In a world where the mind and body are too often split, not only do we do a lot of talking in our prayers, but we forget what a vital instrument the body is in our prayer life. In reality, we can't pray without the body. Our body IS prayer. In this episode, you'll learn to “ride the waves” of the body's knowing into deeper communion with the Divine. Welcome to One Heart, One Mind, One Body. Upcoming workshop: Thomas will be in Salt Lake City May 15-17 to guide students through practices from his recent book, At-One-Ment. Scholarships and financial aid always available.

The incredible story behind a heart donation that set off a remarkable, life-saving chain of events for three young girls. Also, Texas Tech student Blake Porter, who went viral for sinking a 94-foot putt and getting hugged by Patrick Mahomes, visits the TODAY Plaza to put his skills to the test. Plus, chef Anthony Vitolo shares a delicious recipe for creamy sausage penne pasta.
We have been waiting a long time for this episode with our friend Thomas McConkie. As many of you know, Thomas is an incredibly skilled meditation teacher and guide on the path of spiritual awakening. Faith Matters produced his very popular online course Transformations of Faith and also published his incredible book At-One-Ment, which has deeply impacted so many readers. For the last several years, Thomas has been doing graduate work at Harvard Divinity School. All the while, we have been exploring with Thomas the possibility of creating a podcast to help us all hit the pause button in our busy daily lives and give time to a rich meditation and prayer practice. As Thomas is coming to the end of his program at Harvard, the time seemed right to launch this series. And so we are excited to share with you today the first episode of this new podcast, named One Heart, One Mind. Thomas is a teacher and researcher who is fascinated by consciousness, growth and transformation. He is especially interested in Christian contemplation and what it means to re-embody Christ's teachings in new and unique ways for these challenging times–ways that will lead to deeper connection to God and to those around us. In One Heart One Mind, we will join Thomas in searching Christianity and the world's Wisdom traditions for gems and insights into awakening, transformation, and the soul's journey Home. The episodes are designed to be relatively brief, 15 to 30 minutes or so, and will generally include a teaching followed by a guided meditation. So, if you've been intending to cultivate a more regular spiritual practice of meditation and prayer, this might be the perfect place to start. You can subscribe to One Heart, One Mind on whatever podcast platform you use. We think you're going to love this journey with Thomas McConkie.

Who are we? What are we? Quantum science is slowly revealing the fact that all of us are connected in a very intimate way. What do the spiritual texts tell us about the state of our reality, or who we are? What is the truth? These are all questions that inquiring minds often ask themselves when contemplating life and existence. Some of us even decide to dedicate our life and creative pursuits to exploring these questions. Such is the case for my guest this week, Brian Curtis, who left his job as electrician to venture out into the unknown and follow his heart. After months turning into years of creating and receiving, He learned that the process was leading to a reconciliation with the self.On this guest episode, Brian shares his philosophies on life and Spiritual development. Commenting on aspects such as creativity and how it creates a better sense of self over time, self love and the effect that has on our environments, desire and how to unlock it instead of working in survival mode, synchronicity and the ever evolving communication with our higher self, how to invest in each other the right way originating in perspective, and different kinds of wounding that is slowly overcome by integrating more of our higher self. Brian fields the question; isn't it time to take a journey into the self and find your truth? BIO:Brian Curtis was an electrician for 25 years. After years of experiences working with other people, he quit his job to venture out into the unknown and follow his heart. After months turning into years of creating and receiving, He learned that the process was leading to a reconciliation with the self. The work became much less important than the inner state the process created. He has dedicated his life to helping people understand how to heal the heart, the only place where everything comes from and goes back to.https://thereisonlyoneheart.com
What was the purpose behind the communal living of the early Messianic sect? When a person is fully dedicated to following Yeshua they realize that so much in this world ultimately just does not matter that much.

In this episode of Wellness at the Speed of Light, we're joined by Dr. Jonathan Fisher, a Harvard-trained cardiologist, mindfulness facilitator, and wellness advocate. Dr. Fisher shares his powerful journey from battling burnout, anxiety, and depression as a practicing cardiologist to transforming his life through mindfulness, emotional healing, and resilience-building strategies. Together, we explore how emotions like gratitude, compassion, optimism, and kindness aren't just "feel-good" feelings but have profound effects on our heart health, lowering blood pressure, improving heart rate variability, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Fisher dives deep into the science of emotional resilience, stress management, and how we can integrate positive psychology, mindfulness practices, and optimal health strategies to improve not only our physical and emotional well-being but also the way we connect with those around us, fostering stronger relationships and enhancing overall quality of life. We also discuss practical tools for mastering emotional intelligence, building mental clarity, and cultivating a positive mindset that can help individuals and organizations thrive. Dr. Fisher shares insights into his work with leaders, teams, and healthcare professionals to reverse burnout and create cultures of connection and well-being. Tune in for an enlightening conversation about the intersections of emotional and physical heart health, and discover how Dr. Fisher is helping others lead happier, healthier lives—one heart at a time. Whether you're interested in stress reduction, heart health, or building a more compassionate world, this episode has something valuable for you. Dr. Stefano Sinicropi

[Original airdate: 3/22/24] Mary Danielsen chats with Don Shenk, Executive Director for The Tide Radio Ministry. The Tide has been around for over 75 years and has done remarkable work in getting the gospel out on radio in multiple languages and to many unreached people. Don was born to missionary parents in what was then known as Rhodesia, and prior to joining The Tide in 2001 served as a missionary teaching at a Bible School in Zimbabwe, Africa. In addition to lecturing in the classroom at Ekuphileni Bible Institute, he served as Academic Dean, Director of Student Ministries, and also developed and implemented a manual skills training program to enable rural pastors to minister bi-vocationally. Through twenty eight years living in Zimbabwe, and numerous visits to Africa, Eastern Europe and India as a ministry administrator and resource person for church conferences and leadership training events, Don has acquired a wealth of international, cross cultural ministry experience. As the world becomes more and more of a global village, Don's greatest passion is to reach people for Jesus Christ and to bring them into the Church. The harvest is ripe; the workers are few.
