Mission should not merely be a piece of the pie in the local church; it should be its flavour. That's the approach Sheldon Armitage takes to understanding the role of local and global missions. Sheldon's been a pastor and missionary in Europe for over 15 years, and in this episode, he shares his wisdom and experience with us. Below you will find the brand new Flourishing Missions Tool for Churches, which Sheldon helped created. This tool will help you shape a culture of missions in your church. In today's episode, you'll hear Sheldon discuss and explain how to best use this resource in your context.

The 'M' Word. Some people love it, others love to hate it. Early use of the word in Sheldon Armitage's childhood drove him to counseling as an adult. Of course, we're talking about the word "missionary" or as Darcy likes to say, "Global Workers". An article I recently shared on Facebook called "Why I Think it's Time to Retire the Word 'Missionary'" got people talking. Turns out, you might just be passionate about your title! Well, you talked about it, so Sheldon and I podded about it in the latest edition of the HnT Podcast. Have a listen and keep having your say in the comments. For now, I'm going to call you all #Globissionaries.
A few weeks ago, Sheldon Armitage and I attended a meeting in #Meccassauga where a Who's Who in the PAOC gathered to examine the Shared Funding Model. I am pretty sure I was invited because I have the nicest beard. We are happy to report that we saved Shared Funding and you're all getting a one year break from raising partners! As the kids say these days: jk. They say you can't fix something that ain't broken, but Sheldon and I gave it a whirl on the latest episode of the HnT Podcast with our Top 10 Amazing Shared Funding Replacement Ideas. Have any to add? Leave them in the comments below, and let's turn Shared Funding upside down! #hntpodcast #sharedfunding #moneycometh
And it's a wrap! In the category of better-late-than-never, Sheldon Armitage and I finally got our ducks in a row and dropped the Here & There Podcast finale for Season 2. If we have any listeners left who are still alive and caught the majority of our second season, this is the sugar in your tea, the icing on your cake, the milk on your Coco Pops, the custard on your pie, the cherry on top, the ice in your iced coffee, the Rick in your Shaw...OK, I'll stop. Just a couple of months away from the Season 3 launch, we took the time to reflect on a season in the books by reviewing the pods that made the cut and looking ahead to what may be in the upcoming season. If you've never tuned in to the HnT Podcast, don't start with this one...wait for Season 3 to become a huge fan and donor. To the rest of you, enjoy this finale like the gravy on your turkey!
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of #Light, it was the season of #Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to #heaven, we were all going direct the other way..." In their improbable 50th episode of the Here & There Podcast, Sheldon Armitage and Matt Janes review the 50 Best & Worst Things About Global Work. Have a listen, agree or disagree, and make some lists of your own! #thisis50 #goldenjubilee #globalwork #bestandworst #charlesdickens
Sheldon Armitage recently hosted his very first Global Volunteer in #Slovakia from PAOC through the STMNetwork. (#mouthful) Over the last few months, we've been chatting on the pod about how a host prepares themselves and their ministry partners for a volunteer in a segment called "So You're Getting A Mid-Termer". In this edition of the HnT podcast, Jennifer Church (aka Brenda Synagogue) joins Sheldon and Anna Armitage in a Slovak McCafé to debrief the month that was her international scouting trip. Was it a match? Will she return? Is she a future GW? Who is #Brennifer's favourite Armitage child? Is Sheldon even a good host? Listen in for the answers to these questions, some Slovak Easter traditions, and a useless Toronto weather report! #loveconnection #roma #refugees #BIF #volunteer #GVisthenewMTMer
#Leadership. For some reason, no other Christian buzzword bugs me more. Maybe it's because I lack it. Perhaps few have exemplified quality leadership in my life. It's overused and under-delivered. It's slapped on brochures and posters and tossed around like candy at a junior high lock-in. Conference organizers rake in wads of cash by selling leadership talks to you that rarely contain anything concrete or valuable. Sheldon Armitage will tell supporters he's busy "training leaders" all night long. We fill our newsletters with tall tales of developing leaders in far away lands, but how do we prove it? Does it make a difference? Is it even a thing? How does the rest of the world feel about importing our leadership lessons from here to there? In this mostly-over-there edition of the HnT podcast, special guest Keith Waara (The Finnish John Maxwell) joins Sheldon live in Alicante, Spain to talk about #liderazgo and it's affect on our global work! #buzzword #espagnol #HnTpodcast
Don Mann is Founder, CEO, President and Director of Sanitation at Mann Co., also known as Revitalizing the Church (www.rtc21.org). In a Missionary Position edition of the HnT podcast, Sheldon Armitage and Matt Janes had a chance to talk with this Mann of God and ask him about "The Missionary Call." From Canada to Zambia to South Africa and beyond, Don and MJ are living out Act 2 of their calling by challenging leaders worldwide to revive, renew and restore the relevance of the Acts 2 church. He's a true man's Mann. #calling #career #missionarycall #act2
Murray Cornelius walks into an Operations Committee meeting and asks, "What's the definition of an oxymoron?" Keith Waara is sipping Alphabet soup and looks confused. Darcy McAlister is busy dreaming. "A Canadian-Based Global Worker", Murray chuckles evilly...only to himself. Monica Demant Helbrecht is not amused (another category to maintain). In this latest edition of the Here & There Unofficial GW Podcast, Sandra Gill's favourite nephew "grills" this Champion of Missionaries about who exactly a CBGW is and what she does to deserve these titles. Sheldon Armitage was not harmed in the making of this episode, but he was MIA. #CBGW #STMlegend #empoweringwomen #GWcaresecretagent #GWguesthouse
I rant, therefore I am. - Dennis MillerAfter a few heavier episodes, we hope you enjoy this lighter offering from your favourite Unofficial Global Worker Podcasters. It's all fun and games until someone loses their budget surplus. Look out Chad McCarthy, you might be buying Sheldon Armitage a new car!
Porn. Some say it's only a guy problem. Others say it's normal and doesn't really hurt anybody. Professionals insist that looking at porn harms your brain and kills real love. Anti-porn activists are calling it the "new drug".It was finally time for Sheldon Armitage and Matt Janes to have "the talk"...with each other. Listen in as we share our first and last encounters with pornography.Brett Ullman (of www.brettullman.com) joins us and answers our questions about how the church is handling the issue of our sexual ethic, and talks about how we can fight the culture of shame and encourage people to get the help they want and need.I'm pretty sure we succeeded in barely scratching the surface here. Let's keep talking about it.
The other day Matt's wife told him she wasn't tall enough to ride his emotional roller coaster. Are you in touch with your emotions? This week's new release of the Here & There Unofficial GW Podcast: "Emotional Vitality", features Sheldon Armitage and Matt Janes staring deep into their emotional cores (and the IM Wellness Plan) and attempting to make sense of the strange feelings they discovered there. Matt found Sheldon to be emotionally unavailable and he has strong feelings about that. #emotions #wellness #vitality #rollercoaster #letstalk
Have any predictions for what may happen in 2015? Did you make any New Year's resolutions this year? In the latest Here & There Unofficial Global Worker podcast, "2015 Predictions And Resolutions", Sheldon Armitage makes some bold predictions about new RDs, which region will get pregnant first, and who will take the longest home assignment in 2015. Among other things, šel and m@ both resolved to record shorter podcasts this year, but you'll have to tune in to find out how we did! No gift of prophecy was used in the recording of this episode.
Happy New Year! We're back with another special edition of the Here & There Podcast, The Missionary Position: Honey We Left The Kids! Guests Paul and Paula Bradbury from Dakar, Senegal join Sheldon Armitage for a short conversation about leaving all 3 of their kids behind in Canada and returning to their mission in West Africa...and an empty nest. Paul and Paula open up about how that's working, what some of the challenges have been, whether or not they like Matt Janes, plus much more.
