UPCOMING EVENT: Access Louisville Live presented by Baird. Be on hand for a live recording of the Access Louisville podcast April 22. Details and registration here.Sometimes Mother Nature just has our number — and that's certainly been true so far in 2025. On this week's Access Louisville podcast we discuss the loss of Thunder Over Louisville — which is being canceled this year because of flooding. On a normal Thunder, about half a million people line the banks of both sides of the river. Kentucky Derby Festival pegs the Thunder economic impact at more than $120 million, while Louisville Tourism charts it at $10 million. A Louisville Tourism spokesperson detailed that their number only accounts for direct economic impact (and excluding things like sponsorship or advertising dollars or TV rights). On this week's show, we also discuss how the flooding has impacted businesses including The Galt House, Captains Quarters and Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. After the flooding talk, we discuss work beginning on a project at the Kentucky Expo Center. Crews will begin demolishing parts of the existing center, including Newmarket Hall. The cleared space will pave the way for Phase I of the project, which is a new 350,000-square-foot multipurpose building designed to expand and redefine event capabilities at the facility.  Additionally, we chat about Louisville Metro Government taking preliminary steps to restore Louisville Gardens. The city is planning to do exterior demolition around the entrance of the building at 525 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. And, lastly, Reporter Stephen P. Schmidt is on the show to discuss the latest on how tariffs will affect Kentucky's signature bourbon industry. Tariffs were causing wild fluctuations on Wall Street this week. But they're also something the bourbon industry has been talking about for far longer, including at LBF's recent Bourbonomics event.Access Louisville, sponsored by Baird, is a weekly podcast from Louisville Business First. It's available on popular podcast services including Apple Podcasts and Spotify (which are linked above.)

Every wedding designer has experienced ‘that wedding.' The one where perfect plans suddenly met with unexpected chaos. Sometimes Mother Nature throws us a few challenges, even for those who are at the top of their game. Regaining control requires focus, finesse, and flexibility. Ian Prosser AIFD, AAF, PFCI reminds us to stop, realize there is a solution, and move forward to find it. Even the most challenging weddings can be taken ‘from Disaster to Delight.' We love for our flowers to be pretty, but this is a story about being prepared.

I'm really curious about this because they can FLY!!!  Wouldn't you fly everywhere if you could???  I'm thinking I would.  But then I started to think about it. You know my perspective is always a bit twisted, but I think if you listen to this show you might get some insight too.  Sometimes Mother Nature can give you some great ideas.  This is what the geese surprisingly did for me.  Going to an event I saw them waiting on the side of the road to cross - half a flock, I swear!  So I started pondering :-) Here's the audio version - video is getting some captions added and then I'll post that on FB, LI and of course on OAC!   I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for listening and maybe sharing a show or two.  My plans are to bring you more in 2020 - so stayed tuned as I ramp it up! Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  I will see you then! Passing On A Smile, Gail

Modern Combat & Survival | Tactical Firearms | Urban Survival | Close Quarters Combat Training

Last week, my 15 y.o. son and I took a backcountry canoe trip - just dad and son - deep into the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. It was a great opportunity to not only bond with the best kiddo on the planet (ok, I'm a bit biased), but also to train him in some wilderness survival skills (such as land navigation, fire-starting, shelter-building, etc.) But sometimes the best lessons come from the mistakes we make, right? Well, this week I thought I'd share our personal story, as well as the "top 5" lessons learned from our trip... including my personal screw-ups! Here's What You'll Discover In This Week's Episode... Why good weather and ideal conditions can be your downfall when you're preparing for "go time"... and what to do NOW to save the suffering later! The "bug-out bag" mistake so many preppers make that - when fixed - can help you quickly adjust to changing conditions at a moment's notice! Metal vs. Mother Nature!  Nothing could stand in the way of the "beast" I would never leave behind... and it saved our bacon when we needed to bend the forest to our will! Sometimes Mother Nature wins!  Try as you may, there will be times when certain essential survival tasks won't be possible (or worth the effort).  That's why you need a "back-up plan" and this one little survival gizmo I'll tell you about was a God-send during the pouring rain!  How I royally SCREWED UP by not taking my own advice! Super simple mistake... that had me carrying unnecessary weight the entire trip!  Ugggh! I'd love to hear your OWN "lessons learned" from mistakes you've made in your training or trips. So be sure to leave a comment on our blog about your challenges (and successes!) so we can all learn together

Sometimes Mother Nature does the unthinkable. Sometimes Human beings do the unthinkable. When you put those together usually one of two things happen: bad or good. Occasionally both things happen as in the case of Stephan Jabaut who unbeknownst to him, was about to embark on the worst cross country skiing expedition of his short life. However, with the forethought of wearing proper attire in 30 below weather and a little luck, Stephan was able to make it out alive and share with us his harrowing tale of falling through the ice.
