He was doing $1.7M a year on Amazon wholesale. Then a counterfeit complaint got his account suspended for 180 days. Instead of folding, he pivoted to live selling on Whatnot and did $350K in under 10 months.Kip Roland (https://x.com/kip_roland) is one of the early movers in live selling on Whatnot and TikTok live auctions. He built nearly 37,000 followers, runs 3-5 hour live shows 6 days a week selling liquidation clothing at $1 starting bids, and is already top 15 in live generated revenue on TikTok after just two weeks on the platform. Today we're breaking down what live selling actually looks like as a business, how the economics compare to Amazon FBA, and whether this is something Amazon sellers should be paying attention to.TIMESTAMPS:00:00 - Meet Kip Roland: From Amazon Wholesale to Live Selling02:14 - The Origin Story: Flipping Sneakers to Product Manager to Full-Time Seller09:45 - The Amazon Suspension That Changed Everything14:11 - "It Was Like Being Fired" (With a Newborn at Home)19:11 - What Is Whatnot and Why Should Amazon Sellers Care?24:16 - First Shows Were Brutal: Building an Audience From Zero27:07 - Selling 60 Items Per Hour: The Proof of Concept Moment29:01 - The Psychology of Live Auctions (Sacrificial Lambs and FOMO)33:01 - Why He Switched From Kitchen Appliances to Women's Clothing40:29 - How the First 10 Minutes of a Live Show Actually Works44:49 - Dollar Auctions: How Often Do You Sell at a Loss?53:34 - Closing in on 40K Followers: How Whatnot Helps Sellers Grow59:01 - TikTok Live Auctions: "This Is Whatnot Circa 2023"01:06:00 - Why Live Selling Projections Are in the Trillions01:11:38 - The Business Behind the Camera: Organization and Hiring01:16:42 - "Liquidation Ruins Retail Forever" (Sourcing for Whatnot)01:26:06 - Whatnot Academy: Sourcing, Selling, and Scaling Live01:30:56 - Lightning Round: Would You Still Be on Whatnot Without the Suspension?GO DEEPER WITH OAC+Want the full Keepa Academy training used by 7 and 8-figure sellers? Send a textA shoulder injury changed the plan, but not the passion. We sit down with Baldwin Wallace defensive coordinator Ethan Nichol to unpack how a would-be sports broadcaster became a college coach, why a cross-country move to Wyoming collided with COVID, and how a family-first choice brought him back to Ohio—and into a program built on grit and continuity.Ethan shares the apprenticeship years at Heidelberg, where doing everything from DB drills to administrative grind taught him how a program works under real pressure. He opens up about that eerie pandemic road trip, the decision to keep his kids close to grandparents, and the surprising upside of coaching where the players know your children by name. From there we get tactical: a defense returning seven to eight starters after ranking top 29 nationally against the pass, an offense with elite red zone and third down numbers under OC Matt Brown, and a staff nucleus staying intact to turn language and reps into second nature. The theme is clear—8–2 is the floor. The next step demands adaptability, smarter in-game adjustments, and the humility to do the simple things perfectly. We also zoom out to what makes Baldwin Wallace different. Born from a quarry owner's belief in access, BW blends small-school focus with a big-city backdrop, pairs excellence with affordability, and boasts a 97% job placement rate. Ethan calls the OAC “only allowing calluses,” a wink to the students who pull up sleeves and make opportunity real. Along the way, we trade laughs about colleague Steve Thompson's people skills, Fiddy's encyclopedic trivia, and the chaotic joy of parenting through game weeks. Olivia Markezich joins me on the podcast to talk steeplechase, the jump from college to pro running, and what it's been like joining the On Athletics Club in Boulder. Olivia runs with OAC out in Boulder and is sponsored by On. Olivia is a steeplechaser, and if you watched the 2024 Olympic Trials, you know exactly why this conversation matters. She took a real shot, put herself into second, and then fell near the finish in one of the most gutting moments of the meet. She was right there, in it, fighting for that team spot, and she opens up about what happened, what it felt like, and how she's carried that experience forward instead of letting it define her. Olivia's story has been one surprise after another. She won the 2023 NCAA title in the steeplechase at Notre Dame, earned 10 All-American honors, and finished top three at seven NCAA championships. She also walked on to Notre Dame and eventually earned a full scholarship, which says a lot about how quickly her belief, consistency, and ceiling have grown. This one is honest, gritty, and really fun. Olivia is all-in on seeing how far she can take this sport, and it's hard not to walk away from this conversation believing she's got some big breakthroughs ahead. 14-year head coach at Mount Union University, Mike Fuline joins this week's episode of @Notevend2 . Coach Fuline has revitalized the MU basketball program into a national championship contender year in and year out. The program has won 4 OAC championships, made it to 3 Sweet 16's, and one National Championships under Fuline. Fuline coached one of the most memorable teams in Division 3 history in 2020; a team with one of the best rosters- headlined by YouTube star, D'Vontay Friga. That teams season was cut short ahead of the Sweet 16 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Three years later Fuline would lead the Purple Raiders to a National Championship game where they would lose to Christopher Newport at the buzzer. The Purple Raiders are currently 8-0 (1-0 OAC), and ranked #12 in the country (https://d3hoops.com/top25/men/2025-26/week3). We knew to expect a ton of snow for every game between Collegeville and Holland. We knew to expect Susquehanna would have more than a fighting chance at Christopher Newport. We knew to expect a likely rematch of former OAC rivals. What we didn't know to expect was five road teams winning in the round of 32! Last year, which was the first year the playoff bracket had 40 teams, there was just one road win in the second round. Normal seems to be somewhere in between the two, but way closer to one than five. We should have known that Wheaton had a good chance at Wartburg. The Hansen Ratings even told us so before the game. But the win, nonetheless, was surprising, and we welcome Wheaton coach Jesse Scott to the podcast to talk about it. He discusses what quarterback Mark Forcucci looks like when he is at his best -- helpful info for someone who has only seen him play North Central, a game in which he was battling to get back from injury. He talks about his coaching and leadership philosophy, and which philosophy prof at Wheaton should be credited, or perhaps not, with helping mold that. Patrick and Greg also go through each of the first round games. There is postgame audio from around a dozen of the 16 advancing teams, and we are grateful to the schools who got these postgame news conferences online or were willing to share them with us so we could bring this audio to you. We also hand out game balls, bring you through the stats of the week and we take your questions in the mailbag segment. That and more in this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

“My biggest thing has been remembering that I'm not Dathan, I'm not Kelsey, but that's why I was hired. The three of us all have very different experiences, we bring different things to the table, and we're just hoping to give the athletes this well-roundedness in support and resources... That's the really cool part about what OAC is doing. We're trying to help this next wave of incredible athletes maximize what they're capable of and it's okay that we all do that differently.”My guest for today's episode is Laura Thweatt, the former professional marathoner who has now stepped into an assistant coach role and is helping oversee the roads team with the On Athletics Club. For 13 years, Laura was a steady coaching presence for high school runners in Boulde and now she's made the jump to guide the likes of 2025 New York City Marathon champion Hellen Obiri and has also helped Joe Klecker navigate the transition from the track to 26.2.Laura is someone who understands the emotional and psychological side of performance. The OAC has seen quite a bit of success in its first five years as a team and as the sport is in one of the most competitive eras ever. Laura is now the connective tissue between the original core of the team and the next generation stepping onto the roads. She talks about how she's built that trust with the athletes, fostered the culture, and developed her own coaching philosophy and style.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez on InstagramGuest: Laura Thweatt | @lthweatt on Instagram Produced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr on Instagram____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSNOMIO: Made with 80% broccoli sprout juice, 15% lemon juice, and 5% sugar, Nomio activates your body's natural defense systems to reduce lactate, speed recovery, and enhance muscle adaptation. Send us a textA single visit changed everything. Jaleel Richardson walked Baldwin Wallace with his family on a bright day, talked wrestling with Coach Gibbs, spotted a comic shop across the street, and realized the fit was bigger than a roster spot. That decision took him from injured freshman to culture carrier, from athlete to advisor, and today he's the first call for students trying to figure out where they belong. We dive into the heart of BW wrestling's rise and what Jacket Tough Mentality really means when the room is young and the scoreboard is brutal. Jaleel shares how a thin upperclass core, consistent standards, and shared ownership turned losses into leverage, ultimately fueling OAC titles and national relevance. He also breaks down D1 vs D2 vs D3 with blunt respect: Division I depth is real, but the gap between Divisions II and III is thinner than most think—passion, volume, and competition in DIII can match or surpass what people assume. There's a great story about teammate-turned-pro fighter Blake Perry that shows what relentless work, humility, and quiet confidence look like day to day.Away from the mat, the conversation shifts to life design. Jaleel explains admissions work from the ground level—college fairs, high school visits, and the steady guidance students and families need to turn options into clarity. He spotlights BW's long-standing commitment to inclusion and belonging—Yellow Jacket for Life—plus outcomes that matter: high placement into jobs or grad school and a strong academic reputation built over decades. We talk about balancing a travel-heavy job with marriage and two small kids, relying on a strong partnership at home, and finishing a master's degree with faith and focused effort. The throughline is simple and strong: culture beats slogans, consistency compounds, and belonging turns effort into growth. If you're choosing a college, building a team culture, or trying to juggle ambition with family, this conversation offersSubscribe for exclusive content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1530455/support Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREETactical BrotherhoodThe Tactical Brotherhood is a movement to support America.Dubby EnergyFROM GAMERS TO GYM JUNKIES TO ENTREPRENEURS, OUR PRODUCT IS FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE BETTER.ShankitgolfOur goal here at Shankitgolf is for everyone to have a great time on and off the golf courseSweet Hands SportsElevate your game with Sweet Hands Sports!

The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Tournaments and brackets are set. The new NPI was the source of all the selections and mock brackets had different ideas than what were revealed. So how did the national committees come up with their brackets and decisions on who to play where and when? Plus, we hear from teams dancing in the tournaments for the first time in a long time. Tune into the Hoopsville Bracket Breakdown as Dave McHugh is back in studio and rolling his sleeves up on the national tournaments. We chat with both national committee chairs about the brackets. We also talk to four hoops programs who made some waves in the final days and weeks of the regular season and are still playing in March. It's all part of a special Tuesday matinee of Hoopsville presented by D3hoops.com. It is an annual event. The regular season is officially over and teams eagerly wait to see where they may be playing in the NCAA Tournaments, but it is different this year. Tune in to the annual Hoopsville Selection Sunday Special hosted by Pat Coleman tonight (Dave McHugh is away on a business trip). Pat will have interviews with teams who have clinched their bids automatically or may be nervously waiting to see how the final NPI numbers work themselves out for at-large selections. Back on the podcast is NCAA Champion & Olympian Maia Ramsden! This past year, Maia became the first woman in 20 years to win back-to-back NCAA Division 1 titles. Maia has run a New Zealand National Record of 4:02.20 in the 1500m, 4:24.79 in the Mile, 8:46.84 in the 3k, and 15:29.06 in the 5k. In her senior year of cross country last year, Maia finished 10th overall at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Maia had one of the most dominant 2024 seasons of anyone in the NCAA ever. In February 2024, Maia set a new personal Mile best of 4:24.83 in the Wannamaker Mile at the Millrose Games in New York. She then qualified for the final of the Women's 1500m at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, with a national indoor record time of 4:06.51. She finished tenth in the final with a time of 4:06.88. At the 2024 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 9, 2024, Maia set a new meet record to win the Mile in 4:25.13. On May 18, at the Los Angeles Grand Prix, she broke the national 1500m record with 4:02.58. She then, on June 8, went on to win an NCAA title in the Women's 1500m to go back-to-back and forever cement her legacy within the NCAA. She competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics for her country of New Zealand, where she made the semi-finals. Maia signed with On and the OAC and is entering her rookie season with them. In today's conversation, Maia takes me through XC memory throwbacks, reflections from her remarkable year in the NCAA, her biggest reflections from being the greatest runner in Harvard program history, her ambitions in this next chapter of life, and so much more. Maia always brings deep insights to the table, and today is no different. Don't miss the opportunity to learn from one of the best! Tap into the Maia Ramsden Special. This week we are joined by the one and only Mr. Morgan Pearson. Morgan is a professional triathlete with a super strong running pedigree. He started his career as a runner at the University of Colorado in Boulder and still competes every now again in road races and cross country (4th at USA's!). He is also a good friend of the Coffee Club boys and OAC. We talk about his recent half marathon performance in Valencia, his plans for the future (running or triathlon?!), and his thoughts on the Matt Choi situation. We also reminisce about our trip to New York City for our live event at the New York Marathon and meeting Rich Roll.If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a 5 star review! “We're kind of on this journey to the marathon. The next logical step is a half marathon. That will be in the new year. We don't know exactly where yet but we want to go attack a half marathon. That's what all the training is focused on and that's why it's been so fun. Not that the training is easy but it's the training that comes the most naturally to me.” My guest for today's episode is U.S. Olympian Joe Klecker of the On Athletics Club. He joins us with some news that he's gearing up for his half marathon debut in early 2025 after a challenging comeback from injury. Joe is back and looking to tackle a new distance with a keen eye on Ryan Hall's American record in the half marathon. While his 2024 outdoor season was sidelined by a torn abductor, he's now fully focused on the 13.1 mile distance. He doesn't say it, but I think all signs point that it will likely be at the Houston Half Marathon in January, which is traditionally perfect weather and very fast. And while he's not quite ready to step away from the track just yet, Joe is already embracing the marathon mindset and this is one step forward to getting to the full distance with a personal best of 12:54 for 5K and 27:07 for 10K. Joe's incredible speed and dedication are setting him up for a strong entry into the longer distance. So in this episode, we'll hear about his approach to injury recovery, his plans for that debut, all with the guidance of his coach Dathan Ritzenhein and the support of his training partner and Olympic medalist, Hellen Obiri. He also shares why he's hoping for one more team on the track. “All I want is to be healthy and train consistently. That's literally it. I try to keep things as simple as possible. I have a lot of confidence in myself that if I'm there on the start line and I'm prepared, I'm going in and do my thing and do really well…Last year unfortunately was another year where I wasn't able to do that. I do try and take stuff from those tough times. There's a lot to be gained when times are tough.” We continue our mini-series with members of the On Athletics Club as Mac Fleet sits down with Morgan McDonald on a recent trip to Boulder. In this episode, we chat about how he navigated his comeback from injury in 2023 to be able to compete at the World Championships in Budapest and Riga. He's played it a bit cautious with his approach to the indoor season but he's ready to open up the 2024 outdoor campaign with the Australian National Championships. We also get his thoughts on changes he'd like to see in the sport, the success of OAC and much more. “I think I'm ready for it. I'm excited for it. I have a lot of self-hatred, anger and adrenaline kicking in for this race. I know it's just the beginning of my season…With this, it's just about proving where I belong in Australian running and I have to back myself thinking I am in record holder in the event and I should act like it and train like it. I feel like we've been training smart and training well over the past few months. I've gone from a little confidence to a lot of confidence in about six weeks.” Australian Olympian and 1500m national record holder Olli Hoare unfortunately had to miss last year's World Championships with a sports hernia and some swelling in the groin area. He had just run a personal best of 3:29.41 at the Oslo Diamond League but the pain was too much to race through. After some time off and some heavy cross-training, he rejoined his OAC teammates for workouts in the fall and will race for the first time this weekend at the Australian National Championships. In this episode, Mac Fleet and him talk about the comeback process, what it was like watching his teammate have success at the World Indoor Championships, the way 1500m racing has evolved and more.
