Waar zijn al die speeltoestellen gebleven waarbij de Russische ruimtevaart nog werd geëerd of waarbij je hopeloos op een zielig autootje zat in de hoop dat die toch aanging. We duiken in ons speeltuinverleden en vragen ons af of we nu een beetje zijn doorgeslagen met alle rubberen tegels. Aaf was geen mooi mens omdat ze zich ongevraagd mengde in een kruiswoordpuzzel van het barpersoneel. Ze liet daardoor een spoor van vernielde feng shui achter. Lies straft haar fiets omdat die niet doet wat ze van de fiets verlangt en is daarom ook niet de mooiste versie van zichzelf. Nog voor het vriendenboekje was er een boekje waarin je je waardering voor de ander kon uitdrukken: het poesiealbum. Poëzie was niet verplicht, alhoewel Aaf en Lies van veel mensen toch mooie rijmpjes kregen. Lies was deze week een iets minder mooi mens, omdat ze haar onbestemde gevoel afreageerde op haar omgeving. Aaf was ook minder mooi omdat ze haar mening wel heel vocaal verkondigde tijdens een avondje uit met Ben en Gijs. Gelukkig houden we weer even moed door onder andere het boek De Collectie van Nina Leger. Flauwvallen en daarna haar hulp het bed in verleiden is haar grootste missie. We leren onwijs veel van de intieme notities die Joan Didion maakte van haar therapiesessies. We hebben elkaar twee weken gezien en er is het nodige gebeurd: Aaf had een spirituele ervaring met haar Nijntje-kerststal, Lies met een raaf. Ook belandden we allebei in de grootste appgroep ooit, die zorgde voor dagenlang vertier. Maar luieren: kunnen we dat? Lies is het liefst een slaaf van haar agenda en Aaf ook, maar ondervond dat ze zomaar de hele vakantie op de bank wilde liggen met een boek. Al werd die rust en dat liggen af en toe onderbroken door een gemeenschappelijke peeve: de intense geluidsband van Stranger Things en vele andere series. Een luisteraar berichtte over haar logerende en dominante schoonmoeder, andere luisteraars vertelden dat ook zij een intense privé-detective in zich herbergen als iemand op de sociale media blijk geeft van een bewogen levensfase. Lies rijdt veel en ziet dan roeken, die verre neven van de kraai. Die prachtige vogels die lijken op de handpoppen van Jozef van den Berg. The art of… een spirituele saus geven aan iets, wat net zoveel spiritualiteit heeft als een afdruiprek.Het leven vraagt je om er toch maar iets leuks van maken terwijl kommer en kwel alomtegenwoordig is. Wat is het, en hoe kom je er weer vanaf? Onze goeroe is verliefd op haar eigen scheten en stond op haar 84ste nog in de Vogue.

Lies vouwde zich in allerlei hoekjes van het huis, mijmerde bij graven en keek naar de enige etalage in het dorp waar een lamp knipperde. Aaf speelde schooltje met haar broer en zus, had een Inspector Gadget-spel of ging bij de hoeren kijken. Verveling duikt op uit de oude doos: een fenomeen waar we met weemoed op terugkijken. We stonden deze week voor raadsels: hoe is het toch mogelijk dat sommige kranen eeningebouwde droogfunctie is, en is daar ooit iemand beter van geworden, en waarom laat Liesin bepaalde weken alles vallen wat ze in haar handen heeft, vooral open pakken suiker?Zo’n week dus: Aaf miezerde thuis, belde sinds lange tijd haar zus, en vond daarin deremedie. Gelukkig zijn er ook mooie dingen in het leven, zoals pretparken. We hebben tips voormensen die er niet graag heengaan, we kijken er een potje nostalgisch op terug, en we stellenonszelf de vraag waarom het prettig is om de vloeistof in je organen te laten bewegen,alsmede die organen zelf, op een onnatuurlijke manier. Een mede-sfeerclown vroeg ons wat ze met haar ietwat zenderige opa aanmoet die twee keer per week komt eten, en in het natuurhoekje zit een prachtige herinnering van Lies.

Een vriendin van een luisteraar communiceert na het krijgen van een kind veelal via een babystemmetje, en dat vormt een probleem. Hunebed D 31 bestaat al meer dan 5000 jaar, maar met Lies was het bijna gebeurd afgelopen week. Het gevaar ligt op de loer in het leven, zeker om drie uur ‘s nachts op de snelweg. Een en ander is goed afgelopen, hetgeen tot dankbaarheid stemt. Aaf is ook dankbaar, met de oude plakboeken van haar lieve goede tante Liesje. Jaar in, jaar uit plakte Liesje Aafs columns in en de mooiste zin markeerde ze met een gele stift. Aangelen. De aangegeelde columns, teruggevonden in een oude doos, worden als een schat uitgepakt en gekoesterd. De liefde van onze dierbaren reikt verder dan de dood en geelt ook onszelf nog steeds aan.Bescheidenheid. Van oudsher van huis uit meegegeven en nu een verdwijnende eigenschap. Oude fietsen, oude kleren, oude auto’s; de mensen die ervan hielden en er trots op waren niet te pronken raken zo langzamerhand in de minderheid. Jammer.Teveel bescheidenheid, bijvoorbeeld je eigen kwaliteiten niet serieus nemen en je niet durven uitspreken kan je ook in de weg zitten. Mensen die geen nee durven zeggen en nooit waardering krijgen, worden op de lange duur niet zo gelukkig. Aaf zat in een week waarin ze vooral bezig was met Lily Allen en het fascisme. Gelukkig biedt de nieuwe burgemeester van New York een sprankel hoop. Lies introduceert geheel tegen ieders wil het begrip rattenkoning, en voelde door Allerzielen haar katholieke roots - op een goede manier. We gaan het hebben over oversharen; met Bep van de administratie je gehele stoelgangcyclus bespreken, je medepassagiers in de trein vermoeien met je relatieperikelen. Er zitten ook heus leuke kanten aan en natuurlijk is het een menselijk instinct uit de oertijd. Maar er is een tijd en plaats voor alles, ook voor verhalen over constipatie. It is really hard to make a good comedy sequel, and the Ghostbusters team did their best. While it is not even close to the original, Ghostbusters II has to be considered one of the better comedy sequels. We pinpoint what prevented it from being as good as the first, which has a lot to do with its shift to a more family-friendly script off the success of The REAL Ghostbusters cartoon. Met een ventilator waar Hans Klok nog een puntje aan kan zuigen, gingen we live met publiek. De jingles ontbraken, maar zangtalent Marc gelukkig niet. We doken in de oude doos, die verrassend actueel bleek te zijn. Nu heet het harige fenomeen Labubu en oogt het grimmig en afstandelijk. Terwijl de Monchhichi uit de jaren 70 juist zorgde voor een onweerstaanbare drang om het beestje goed te verzorgen. Het kleine hoofdje, de grote ogen en de pluizige haartjes – het roept een sleutelprikkel op.Aaf zat diep in haar obsessie rondom een ontluikende relatie en daar baalde ze ook wel van. Lies ontdekte dat ze een menselijke Swiffer is en daardoor veel onnodige items tot zich toetrekt. Toch onhandig als je net op zoek bent naar dat ene kleine sleuteltje.We houden moed dankzij een handige lifehack in het openbaar vervoer. Nachten boos malen, de praattrip en de woede-loop, het is allemaal onderdeel van dezelfde strijd. Lies begint thuis te raken in Drenthe, want ze wordt er nu zelfs al licht belachelijk gemaakt, en Aaf maakte zichzelf bijna belachelijk maar werd gered door een vrouw zonder gezicht. Een luisteraar ziet op haar 44ste dat haar leven heel anders is gegaan dan hoe ze had gedacht, en onze goeroe kookt in een piepkleine New Yorkse keuken voor zijn kritische vrouw.

Als moeder van twee tieners en stiefmoeder van twee inmiddels volwassenen beschouwt ze zichzelf als een ervaringsdeskunige die ook nog in opleiding is.
