"With animal welfare, we're basically waiting till the roof falls in — when the animals are at the shelter, that's the roof falling in. We have to catch them earlier." Connecting it all is the Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN) — a shared technology platform that replaces organizational silos with real-time coordination across shelters, rescues, vet clinics, and community partners. Three participation levels and no cost to join means even change-resistant organizations can get on board. To measure what's working, BJ is partnering with a University of Tennessee researcher to build the evidence base for prevention-first animal welfare — while already fielding calls from Colorado, Tennessee, and the Canadian SPCA. Aaf en Lies bezochten het Boekenbal en kaarten lekker na. De aangeboden drugs, een faux-pas met drankmunten, mijmeringen over de goeie ouwe tijd toen Beau van Erven Dorens-achtigen met een werk van papier maché de zaal verlieten. En: wij, ja wij, brachten een heel nieuw element op de schrijversdansvloer. Vanuit deze post-feesteuforie schakelen we keihard over naar het onderwerp triggers, want zo zijn we ook wel weer. De verklampte borstkas, de stromen angstzweet: ze kunnen door van alles komen. Een camping waar ooit verdriet geleden werd, de geluiden op een vliegveld. Je hebt kleine en grote triggers, net zoals je kleine nare herinneringen hebt en grote trauma’s. We gaan vooral langs de kleine. Een vriend die al zijn sores met Chat bespreekt - is dat oké, vraagt een luisteraar zich af. En in de hoek schuilt vandaag iets onverwachts: het oudste houten wapen van de wereld. Want ja, ook dat is de natuur!

Lies had zich aangemeld voor de lokale paddentrek­groep. Annet Malherbe is acteur. Ze heeft in zowel films als theatervoorstellingen geacteerd, maar ze had ook rollen in bekende series als ‘Gooische Vrouwen' en 'Jiskefet'. In ‘Jiskefet' speelde ze van 1990 tot 1997 Juffrouw Jannie in ‘Debiteuren Crediteuren'. Ze werd meerdere keren genomineerd voor een Gouden Kalf en ontving in 2013 de Gouden Notenkraker voor onder andere haar rollen in de televisieseries ‘Aaf' en ‘Moeder, ik wil bij de revue'. Nu speelt ze de hoofdrol in de nieuwe serie ‘Rust en vreugd', waarin een vrouw voor het volkstuintje van haar overleden man gaat zorgen. Ze denkt hier rust en vreugd te vinden maar in het tuintje blijkt het te krioelen van de spanning. Femke van der Laan gaat met Annet Malherbe in gesprek.

Ren je weg, bevries je of ga je strijdend ten onder wanneer er gevaar dreigt? We leren over een vierde reactie die we in grote mate hebben geïnternaliseerd: fawning. We lezen de ruimte, maken ons onzichtbaar wanneer nodig of passen ons aan in de situatie, zodat we altijd veilig zijn. Fawning – het is een enge sfeerclown die ons ver heeft gebracht. Zo ver dat we soms zijn vergeten wat we eigenlijk zelf willen. Lies werd door de péage gezogen, zo een verrassingsweek in. Ze bestudeerde alle instrumenten die Adolphe Sax ons geschonken heeft en had een behoorlijke boomervakantie. Aaf had een heel fijn omslagmoment dat ze eigenlijk niet had kunnen hebben als ze zich de week daarvoor niet heel erg meh had gevoeld.Onze luisteraar zit met veel ongevraagd advies van mannen waartegen ze zich wil wapenen. Hoe meer niche en hoe obscuurder het programma, hoe beter. Althans, als het aan Aaf en Lies ligt. Zij genieten nog steeds van het fenomeen radio. Lies ontdekte dat haar Italiaanse collega nog nooit van Paolo Conte had gehoord en Aaf beleefde een week die te definiëren was als meh. Lies heeft een prikpen nodig voor haar nieuwe alcoholsystematiek en we weten eindelijk waarom we jarenlang hebben leren prikken op school. Aaf ging naar de allereerste naam-reveal waar ze ooit bij was geweest, van, ratatata, onze eigen redacteur en allesie formerly known as Floor. Waar zijn al die speeltoestellen gebleven waarbij de Russische ruimtevaart nog werd geëerd of waarbij je hopeloos op een zielig autootje zat in de hoop dat die toch aanging. Nog voor het vriendenboekje was er een boekje waarin je je waardering voor de ander kon uitdrukken: het poesiealbum. Poëzie was niet verplicht, alhoewel Aaf en Lies van veel mensen toch mooie rijmpjes kregen. Lies was deze week een iets minder mooi mens, omdat ze haar onbestemde gevoel afreageerde op haar omgeving. Aaf was ook minder mooi omdat ze haar mening wel heel vocaal verkondigde tijdens een avondje uit met Ben en Gijs. Gelukkig houden we weer even moed door onder andere het boek De Collectie van Nina Leger. Flauwvallen en daarna haar hulp het bed in verleiden is haar grootste missie. We leren onwijs veel van de intieme notities die Joan Didion maakte van haar therapiesessies. We hebben elkaar twee weken gezien en er is het nodige gebeurd: Aaf had een spirituele ervaring met haar Nijntje-kerststal, Lies met een raaf. Al werd die rust en dat liggen af en toe onderbroken door een gemeenschappelijke peeve: de intense geluidsband van Stranger Things en vele andere series. Een luisteraar berichtte over haar logerende en dominante schoonmoeder, andere luisteraars vertelden dat ook zij een intense privé-detective in zich herbergen als iemand op de sociale media blijk geeft van een bewogen levensfase. Lies rijdt veel en ziet dan roeken, die verre neven van de kraai. Die prachtige vogels die lijken op de handpoppen van Jozef van den Berg. The art of… een spirituele saus geven aan iets, wat net zoveel spiritualiteit heeft als een afdruiprek.Het leven vraagt je om er toch maar iets leuks van maken terwijl kommer en kwel alomtegenwoordig is. Maar een art is het niet.Desalniettemin geven wij tips waar je gelukkiger van wordt en vertellen wij over Onze Levens.Samen mopperen kan ook troosten en verbinden. En een stukje moeheid, dat ook.Aaf bleef een stoïcijn, ondanks brandalarmen en bloedbaden. Ja, je hoort het goed. We praten over fixatie, en dan niet op de Eiffeltoren, maar op een persoon. It is really hard to make a good comedy sequel, and the Ghostbusters team did their best. While it is not even close to the original, Ghostbusters II has to be considered one of the better comedy sequels. We pinpoint what prevented it from being as good as the first, which has a lot to do with its shift to a more family-friendly script off the success of The REAL Ghostbusters cartoon.
