This is a long episode but it is one full of crazy experiences. We were fortunate enough to make it to World's Toughest Mudder for the first time which is also the last year it will be in Vegas! Alex survived and beat his goal but suffered immensely during the final hours of the 24 hour race! Special thanks to the New England Spahtens for their help in the pit and on the course! Lura and Mike completed the Rock N Roll Half Marathon on the Las Vegas Strip, both Kay and Shae ran the Mattapoisett 5k, and John participated in the YMCA Turkey Trot 5 Miler! Be sure to listen to the end to hear how everyone did! Next weekend we will be at: Newburyport Harborside Half Maratbon in Newburyport, MA Please consider writing a review on iTunes, as it really helps the show! (Apologies for the double-publish...technical difficulties earlier) There's just not enough time in the day (or in the podcast) sometimes. So many things to talk about... Well, today I cover three BIG things! Two of them I cover REALLY well! One is...well...just tough to talk about with saying the same thing everyone else has already said. The spotlight here is...The New England Spahtens. Who, what, why, and how. And more, of course :) And I've got Paul Jones to tell me allllll about it. Hot off the heels of their big win in Mud Run Guide's "Best Of" OCR awards, I interview Paul Jones, the de facto face of the New England Spahtens! We get into: -OCR, and its roots -The growth of OCR, emergence of the "Big 3", and rise/fall of the "little guys" -The origins of The New England Spahtens, and where it is today -What "community" really means...and what it looks like If you're interested in checking out the Spahtens, and maybe becoming a part of their crowd, visit the links below! Also, be sure to listen to The NE Spahtens Show. That's their podcast, and I assure you, it's lovely. visit join.nespahtens.com for all the links you could want! After the interview...I get into a bit about...well...New Year's Resolutions. because...well...why wouldn't I, right? I just can't help myself. Episode 66-This week Matt talks with Cristina Devito of Mudderella and Paul Jones of the New England Sphatens. Cristina Devito used to be the Chief Strategy Officer at Tough Mudder. She tells us all about how she launched Mudderella and how they plan to take over the women’s mud run world. They have 20 races in the USA, 3 in the UK and 4 in Australia planned for 2014. Also, It turns out guys can run too. Learn how they can sign up and the other reasons Mudderealla believes they have created the best women's event out there. Next up is Paul Jones of The New England Spahtens. Paul was at the one of the first Spartan races all the way back in 2010. Find out how that led to him to the center of a Facebook group that has 1,200 members and growing. Matt asks how everyone in a group that size functions well and gets along (or do they). Also, he asks if will they ever change the name since the Spahtens participate in and review every other mud run and obstacle race out there. Today’s episode is sponsored by Mud Mingle.
