This series of pieces is an anthology series exploring ideas in technology, humanity, and the future. Like Black Mirror but with music. These pieces were performed at my Graduate Composition Performance on April 11th, 2019 at the UCO Jazz Lab as part of the requirements of my Master of Music Composition degree. Due to the nature of how much work every music student is given each semester, some of the performances are not perfect, but I am happy with how well the show went. I highly recommend that you go to my website and watch the videos and look at the program notes with lyrics to really get the most out of the content. It was video recorded by J.R. Edwards and the audio was produced by Bryan Mitschell. The artwork was drawn by Nathan M. Kent and the Graphic Design for the poster and booklet was by Sable Ann. The whole Machinations experience can be found on my website: https://santiagoramones.com/podcast --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/santiagoramones/support

Since I am still dealing with a cold and still don’t want to be coughing into your ears for an interview, here’s the second Electric Pizza Concert, which was a Halloween show. This is a concert that I played on October 8th of 2018 with Power Cycle, an electronic trio that includes myself (Santiago Ramones), Breck McGough, and Jonathan Edwards. We’re all graduate music composition majors and we’re led by Dr. L. Keith White. Since this is a live recording, you can hear applause, talking, mistakes, and all the other things that can be heard at a live concert. You can watch the concert on Facebook through the UCO Jazz Lab page, which I would recommend, since there are a lot of visual elements that make up the show. The program is as follows: 00:16 - Electric Pizza Theme - Composed and performed by L. Keith White 08:20 - Prelude in Fear Minor - Adapted from Johann Sebastian Bach, improvised by Power Cycle 13:26 - Discomfort 2 - Composed and performed by Santiago Ramones 15:46 - Lullaby - Composed by Breck McGough, performed by Power Cycle 20:12 - Cocaine Nightmare - Composed and performed by Santiago Ramones 24:50 - Psychokinetoscope: Hommage a John Carpenter - Composed by Breck McGough (fixed media) 28:40 - A Ghost Story - Composed and performed by J.R. Edwards 32:31 - Nosferatu - Live scored/improvised by Power Cycle; short film edit by J.R. Edwards A note about Electric Pizza Theme: This is an omnisensory piece of music that includes hearing (music), seeing (looking at the performer and pizza), feeling (holding pizza), smelling (smelling pizza), and tasting (eating pizza). While this piece is performed, pizza is delivered to the audience. A note about Nosferatu: Jonathan cut down and made a version of the original Nosferatu film, which we live scored. You can find everything Jon Edwards does on his Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tuneselectgo/You can find Breck’s music on his SoundCloud:https://soundcloud.com/breck-mcgough --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/santiagoramones/support

In this segment, we hear from Edmond physical therapist Holly Jones, who is also a pianist and composer. She has just released her third album, “Storyteller” and performed a sold-out performance at the UCO Jazz Lab in May of this year. We hear from her as she talks about how composing music is "the way that she processes life" and how that informs her creative process. She shares a story of how she began studying classical piano as a child and developed her skills and how her particular style has evolved over the years. She then reflects on how her compositional skills were inspired by various popular songs on the radio. We then listen to her speak about how her life informs her music and vice versa, and the synergy between the two. She relays to us the importance of being fully present, being fully grounded in her own body, actually "being the music," and how she utilizes this as an ongoing practice that brings about peace in all aspects of her life, especially her work as a physical therapist. Ultimately, she sees her actual performing as a "conversation between both hands" as she plays the piano. She then shares her experience of traveling to Prague, Czechoslovakia in May of this year, in which orchestration was added to her piano album "Storyteller", orchestrated and conducted by Ludek Drizhal, and recorded by the Prague Metropolitan Orchestra. We then wrap things up as she talks about her goal of getting her compositions in film, and get a brief teaser about her next album, "Sacred Places". She plans to record both the piano solo version as well as the orchestrated version in Prague, benefitting from the classical influence of the region, and its inherent instrumental recording opportunities.
