Content WarningThis episode deals with the rape and death of a young child.Ten-year-old Holly had been playing with a neighborhood playmate a bit younger than her. When it came time for her friend to go home, Holly didn't want the little girl to walk back alone. So her mother, Maria, gave her permission to escort her friend home since the walk wasn't very far, only about six minutes. In fact, it was the same route that Holly took every day to get to school.By 8:30, darkness had fallen, and Holly had not arrived home. At first, Maria thought that her daughter must have stayed at her friend's house to play for a little while, but a quick phone call confirmed that she hadn't. Family and friends began canvassing the neighborhood. A frantic Maria called the police and reported her daughter missing. The next morning, a man was walking their dog along the beach when he saw a black nylon duffel bag in the water. Inside that bag, he would find the torso of a young girl wrapped in plastic.Join Jen and Cam as they discuss the heartbreaking case 'Gone In A Flash: Holly Jones.'Michael Briere is up for parole in 2028. Popcorn Podcast welcomes British director – and regency-era film fan – Emma Holly Jones to chat about her new movie Mr Malcolm's List. Jones shares what else sets her first feature apart from its contemporaries and why it was important to challenge the historical inaccuracies of the genre with diverse representation. As regular listeners to the podcast know, we love it when we get to speak to directors and their composers at the same time, which is what we're doing with Emma Holly Jones and Amelia Warner in our latest episode. Emma enlisted Amelia for her debut feature film, Mr Malcolm's List, a period rom-com about two friends who plot revenge on the eponymous suitor for rejecting one of them as a bride.
In this episode of Girls On Film Anna Smith does a deep dive into MR. MALCOLM'S LIST, a new release starring Zawe Ashton, Freida Pinto and Sope Dirisu, directed by Emma Holly Jones in her feature debut. Zawe Ashton joins Anna to talk about playing Julia Thistlewaite in MR. MALCOLM'S LIST opposite Freida Pinto as Selina Dalton. Zawe talks about her view of the film's narrative, the pleasure of working with Freida Pinto and the other women in the film, and on making a movie in which female friendship is as important as the love interest. Directed by Emma Holly Jones, MR. MALCOLM'S LIST is a delightfully fun tale of love and the expectations that get in the way. Set in the 1800s, Mr. Malcolm may be a charming bachelor but his list of qualifications for a suitor keep him single... until a beautiful young woman (Freida Pinto) begins to chip away at his emotional walls. In this 1on1, we speak to Jones about bringing fantasy to life, reimagining history and how to break down our 'masks'.
It's a special thing when you manage to get genuinely surprised....On this episode we dive into a truly joyful piece of cinema that is in theatres this coming Friday July 1st. It's time to scroll through 'Mr. Malcolm's List'.When Julia Thistlewaite (Zawe Ashton) is jilted by London's most eligible bachelor, Mr. Malcolm (Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù) because she fails to meet an item on his list of requirements for a bride, she's humiliated and determined to exact revenge. She convinces her friend Selina Dalton (Freida Pinto) to play the role of his ideal match. Soon, Mr. Malcolm wonders whether he's found the perfect woman...or the perfect hoax. While you could call this 'Jane Austen Fan Fiction' (or guest today does) this is so more as it has a genuinely sharp sense of humor to it while still respect the romance angle of it all. It's exceptionally smart and is a love story that won't bore the guys who get dragged to the theatre by the girlfriend to see it.We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with director Emma Holly Jones to talk about the origins of the story, making something that is true to the genre but still very self aware at the same time and so very much more...
It's Motivational Monday, and we're shining light on a beauty company saving animals. Plus, psychotherapist Niro Feliciano has tips on how to decrease stress and find contentment. And, Freida Pinto, Sope Dirisu and Emma Holly Jones chat about their new movie “Mr. Malcolm's List.”

Holly covers the case of Holly McFeature who you should never accept Iced Tea from. Gemma starts off this episode with the sad tale of Holly Jones who was taken far too soon. The girls give some fan shout-outs from iTunes Reviews and Instagram, Holly apologises for all the turkey confusion, the girls do mid-recording research (aka last minute) with results that enrage Holly slightly, Holly claims the Mediterranean for her own - everyone please leave, and Gemma calls Holly names. Production, recording and post production completed by Producer Craig who has exceeded all flag waving expectations and almost lost an eye. It was amazing. Gemma edited this week. All complaints should be sent to Producer Craig who is very close to becoming a pirate. In this segment, we hear from Edmond physical therapist Holly Jones, who is also a pianist and composer. She has just released her third album, “Storyteller” and performed a sold-out performance at the UCO Jazz Lab in May of this year. We hear from her as she talks about how composing music is "the way that she processes life" and how that informs her creative process. She shares a story of how she began studying classical piano as a child and developed her skills and how her particular style has evolved over the years. She then reflects on how her compositional skills were inspired by various popular songs on the radio. We then listen to her speak about how her life informs her music and vice versa, and the synergy between the two. She relays to us the importance of being fully present, being fully grounded in her own body, actually "being the music," and how she utilizes this as an ongoing practice that brings about peace in all aspects of her life, especially her work as a physical therapist. Ultimately, she sees her actual performing as a "conversation between both hands" as she plays the piano. She then shares her experience of traveling to Prague, Czechoslovakia in May of this year, in which orchestration was added to her piano album "Storyteller", orchestrated and conducted by Ludek Drizhal, and recorded by the Prague Metropolitan Orchestra. We then wrap things up as she talks about her goal of getting her compositions in film, and get a brief teaser about her next album, "Sacred Places". She plans to record both the piano solo version as well as the orchestrated version in Prague, benefitting from the classical influence of the region, and its inherent instrumental recording opportunities.
