Kris Myers was born on April 5, 1977. Receiving a drum kit at the age of 8, he took an early interest in jazz, rock and punk music. During high school Myers co-started his first musical outfit, a ska/punk band called the Skalawags. The group received a decent amount of success but denied an offer to tour Japan to instead pursue college degrees. Myers attended Elmhurst College from 1995 – 1999 where he was a music major and the drummer in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Under director Doug Beach, the Elmhurst College Jazz Band played gigs in the U.S. and Internationally at events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2001 Myers enrolled in DePaul University where he earned his master's degree in jazz drumming and was a member of the Rob Parton Orchestra.  In addition to his involvement in school bands, Myers was playing in festivals with a variety of jazz artists such as Nicholas Payton, Diane Schuur, Randy Brecker, Dennis DiBlasio as well as local musicians Mark Colby and John McLean.  Myers also was a member of Chicago jazz fusion band Kick the Cat.  Myers began playing drums for progressive-rock band Umphrey's McGee in 2003 following the departure of original drummer Mike Mirro. With Myers at the helm, Umphrey's has released ten albums and maintains a rigorous touring schedule of over 100 live shows per year.  Umphrey's has performed at legendary festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre and more. With Umphrey's, Myers has shared the stage with countless notable musicians such as Buddy Guy, Huey Lewis, Ivan Neville, Les Claypool, Stephen Perkins, Mike Keneally, Joshua Redman, Bela Fleck, Taj Mahal, Victor Wooten, Adrian Belew, Stanley Jordan, Gene Ween, Derek Trucks and Jason Bonham. In 2011 Myers was honored with the title of Best Jam Band Drummer by DRUM Magazine, beating jamband stalwarts such as Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers) and Jon Fishman (Phish). In 2018, Myers was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer's July issue. Myers placed second in the Experimental Rock category of the publication's “Readers Poll Awards” behind St. Vincent drummer Matt Johnson. When he's not behind the drum kit, Myers enjoys playing golf, attending concerts, hiking and collecting art.    Some Things That Came Up:  -2:30 Kris's multi genre style  -3:00 Rabid fans  -4:45 The Umphrey's McGee audition turned into a 21 year gig and counting -6:30 Kris's previous band was Kick The Cat  -11:00 Maintaining a list of all the venues the band has played  -11:30 Red Rocks is fave venue as well as The Fox Theater in Oakland and The Ryman in Nashville -14:00 Vic Salazar !!! Welcome to Episode #112 of "The Other Side of the Bell", a podcast brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass. In this episode, John talks with Wayne Bergeron and Jeff Bunnell about their recently released album called "Homage" by the Los Angeles Trumpet Ensemble.  We hope you'll enjoy their conversation as well as the album. Join us at Dillon Music, November 9-11 for valve alignments and mouthpiece consultations. Email sales@dillonmusic to schedule an appointment! About the Los Angeles Trumpet Ensemble Album "Homage"  The recording scene in Los Angeles has a long history of great and highly versatile trumpet playing. For the most part, though, these trumpet players rarely get a chance to be featured. In 1957, Tutti Camarata arranged and produced a record called Tutti's Trumpets that featured some of the top session trumpet players in Los Angeles at that time. That was over 60 years ago. Wayne Bergeron and Jeff Bunnell started talking about doing another recording that would feature some of the current session trumpet players here in Los Angeles. Wayne suggested recording a trumpet ensemble CD to Jeff and they loved the idea and thought a choir of trumpets would work well. With that, the Los Angeles Trumpet Ensemble came into being. In choosing the music Jeff arranged for this CD, he wanted to pay tribute to some of the film composers who are part of the Los Angeles recording scene (and who write so well for the trumpet), and also pay tribute to some of the great trumpet players of the past and present.  Jerry Hey graciously wrote the arrangment for the last track, the iconic Al Jarreau tune "Roof Garden". Los Angeles Trumpet Ensemble Members Jeff Bunnell Wayne Bergeron Jon Lewis Dan Fornero Marissa Benedict Dan Rosenboom Rob Schaer Larry Hall Dan Savant About Wayne Bergeron Wayne Bergeron is enjoying a career as one of the most sought-after musicians in the world. Studio sessions, film dates, international touring, jazz concerts, guest appearances, and clinics keep him busy not only in his hometown of Los Angeles but worldwide. Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1958, Bergeron came to California at age one. He originally started on French horn but switched to trumpet in seventh grade where he found a natural upper register ability. Bergeron credits his junior high and high school teachers, Ron Savitt and Bob Smith, for molding his talent into practical working skills. Bergeron first caught the ear of many when he landed the lead trumpet chair with Maynard Ferguson's band in 1986. Bergeron can be heard on Maynard's recordings of Body and Soul, Big Bop Nouveau, Brass Attitude, and The One and Only Maynard Ferguson.  Bergeron demonstrates daily why Maynard remarked, “Wayne is the most musical lead trumpet player I've had on my band.” As a sideman, Bergeron's list of recording credits reads like a “who's who” in contemporary jazz and pop, running the stylistic gamut from Ray Charles to Green Day. Other names include Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Barbra Streisand, Michael Buble, Indina Menzel, Leslie Oden Jr., Herb Alpert, The Jonas Brothers, Burt Bacharach, The Dirty Loops, Seth MacFarlane, Natalie Cole, Celine Dion, Seal, Diana Krall, Tito Puente, Christina Aguilera, Dianne Reeves, Michael Bolton, Earth Wind & Fire, The Pussy Cat Dolls, My Chemical Romance, The Mars Volta, Chicago, Rosemary Cloony, Diane Schuur, Barry Manilow, Lee Ann Womack, Lou Rawls, Eric Marienthal, Kenny G., and David Benoit. Bergeron has worked on over 500 TV & motion picture soundtracks. A partial list of film credits includes Red Notice, Turning Red, Soul, Bob's Burgers, Ford vs. Ferrari, Toy Story 4, Frozen 1 & 2, The Lion King (2019), The Secret Life of Pets, Wreck it Ralph 2, Crazy Rich Asians, Sing 1&2, Moana, Frozen 1 & 2, Get On Up, Toy Story 3, Monsters University, High School Musical 3, Get Smart, Superman Returns, The Simpson's Movie, Dreamgirls, Hairspray, Mission Impossible 3, Ice Age 2, Spiderman 1 & 2, Team America and South Park. Bergeron's featured trumpet solos can be heard on the motion pictures West Side Story (2021 Steven Spielberg), La La Land, Sing, The Incredibles 1 & 2, Rocky Balboa, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Rough Night, Jazzman's Blues, Vacation Friends, Ted 2, Minions, Minions 2:The Rise of Gru, Spies in Disguise, Jersey Boys, The Green Hornet, The Interview, Despicable Me 1, 2 & 3, Duplicity, Princess & the Frog, The Perfect Game,, Hey Arnold (the movie), The Rat Pack, Child Star, Aladdin King of Thieves and High Crimes and  many others. Numerous TV credits include Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, SAG Awards, NBC, ESPN & TNT sports themes, American Idol (2001-02), Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, Animaniacs Reboot, Family Guy, American Dad, Simpson's, Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, The Cleveland Show, Green Eggs and Ham,  Jeopardy, America's Funniest Home Videos, Will and Grace, Phineas & Ferb, Emperor's New School, Mouse Works, Have a Laugh, House of Mouse, King of the Hill, Futurama, Buzz Lightyear, Hercules, and Hey Arnold. Bergeron's greatest love is playing lead in big bands. He has recorded and played with some of Los Angeles' most respected bands including Gordon Goodwin, Arturo Sandoval, Pat Williams, Sammy Nestico, Jack Sheldon, Chris Walden, Tom Kubis, John La Barbara, Bob Florence, Joey Sellers, Ray Anthony, Bill Watrous, Bob Curnow, and Quincy Jones. After being behind the scene for so many years, Bergeron stepped out on his own with his first solo effort, You Call This a Living?  This debut project earned him a Grammy nomination in 2004 for Best Large Jazz Ensemble, as well as rave reviews from fans and press worldwide. Bergeron's second CD, Plays Well With Others, released on the Concord Jazz label in 2007, was met with the same acclaim. Bergeron's most current (and personal favorite) CD, Full Circle, was released in January of 2016.  Bergeron performs various events for the Hollywood Bowl summer season. He has done guest appearances with the L.A. Philharmonic, The New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony, Taiwan Symphony, and Tokyo Philharmonic. Bergeron is a National Artist for the Yamaha Corporation of America and is co-designer of the YTR-8335LA trumpet and YFH-8315G Flugelhorn. Bergeron also designed a series of trumpet mouthpieces with Gary Radtke of GR Technologies that are available through Bergeron's website. Bergeron was mentored by legends Uan Rasey, Bobby Shew, Warren Luening, Gary Grant, Rick Baptist, and George Graham. Bergeron hopes to inspire a new generation of young players and enjoys his work as a clinician and educator. “Nothing makes me feel more accomplished than hearing a young musician say that I inspired them or had a positive influence on their life. For me, that's the real payday.” Bergeron is currently on faculty at California State University Northridge. Perhaps Grammy winning composer and bandleader, Gordon Goodwin said it best, “Wayne is a once in a lifetime lead trumpet player.” About Jeff Bunnell Trumpeter Jeff Bunnell has enjoyed a successful career in many musically diverse settings. You need to show up and it's sold out. You recognize every single concert is a huge opportunity. In fact, the commerce is connection, connect with those people.30:08 - The business is challenging, but it is what it is. I can't say I love the contracting and as you know, there's a lot of phone calls, diplomacy and dealing with people who are wonderful and people are a challenge sometimes. There's a lot of egos. And so, you have to work around that and learn how to deal with that. Ego stands for Edging God Out. 46:41 - I tried to counter because there are a lot of stereotypes associated with music. If you had to ask a hundred people what are the things associated with musicians. They're drinkers, they're partiers, they do drugs, they're unhealthy. But I find that on the upper levels that that's not generally, not the case, at least the people I'm working with. It's become more you have to be on time, you have to have your business together.ContactFresh Coast Jazz FestivalPatrick Lamb

Roberto Vally's accomplishments within music date back to his formidable years in New York where he was awarded his Junior High School's Music Honor Award. It was clear that Roberto was destined to pursue an education in music. From 1974-1978 he attended New York City's legendary High School of Music and Art-depicted in Fame (1980 film). Continuing his education in music theory and classical bass he attended the highly acclaimed Julliard School from 1976-1978. There, most notably, he was mentored by the prominent professor and classical bassist, Homer Mensch. Roberto loved every minute of his bass education, but the “itch” to perform and take his bass skills on the road eventually took hold of him. In 1979 he auditioned for a show band that toured in the US and Canada, and off he went! His ferocious playing and charismatic stage presence were extraordinary. There was no stopping him. His skills and thirst for fun and adventure brought him overseas to France, where he not only gigged, but mastered surfing and skiing. Perhaps unbeknownst to him at the time, in the midst of his playing on stage, on slopes and on surf boards, Roberto was building a remarkable set of diverse “chops” that come only with countless live stage experiences.  Years of honing live performance skills really paid off when he auditioned with Spyro Gyra. Thru 1987 and 1988 Roberto toured and recorded with Spyro Gyra, performing in over 150 concerts in the US and around the world. With Spyro Gyra he recorded “Stories Without Words”, which is to date, one of the group's most popular albums. Touring continued for Roberto in 1990 when he joined Michael Franks on his Blue Pacific Tour-once again taking him on tour worldwide.Westward bound. While Roberto was on tour with Michael Franks he took a leap of faith and invited Bobby Caldwell to one of the California shows with Michael, and as fate would have it, Bobby showed up and immediately asked Roberto to join his band. So in 1991, he moved to Los Angeles and started rehearsing with Bobby, To date, Roberto is playing with Bobby for an astonishing 29 year tenure! In 1993 he took stage with Randy Crawford as her bassist, but his adept demeanor and impressive musicality led Randy to appoint him as Musical Director where he headed tours encompassing the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia for over 15+ years.Since moving to Los Angeles, Roberto has performed and/or recorded with the following artists: George Benson, Christopher Cross, Jeffrey Osborne, Bob James, Al Jareau, Hillary Duff, Diane Schuur, David Benoit, Boz Scaggs, Kirk Whalum, Bobby Caldwell, Patti Austin, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Carlton, Marion Meadows, Jeff Golub, Peter White, Norman Brown, Paul Brown, Boney James, Ric Braun, Michael Lington, Richard Elliot, Joan Sebastian, Johnny Rivers, Euge Groove, Eric Darius, Anna Barbara, Alvaro Torres, Los Trio, Ricardo Arjona, Nils, Banda Blanca and more.-Get FeaturedLemur MusicSMILE - Ryan Roberts Street-Artsemble  Instagram / Twitter / Youtube / Website / BSA/ View More Episodes

RIP Bobby Caldwell we love you man!About today's guest:  A BRIEF HISTORY…With his formative years spent in New York City, Roberto's musical talents were highly enriched through in-depth exposure to vast musical styles. Classical, Jazz, Latin, Funk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Pop, and Soul music became an integral part of his musical palette. Years of traveling and performing with notable artists around the world have made Roberto's already broad repertoire one of outstanding magnitude. The combination of his innate groove, musicality, dexterity, and worldwide playing experiences make Roberto a world-class bass virtuoso, and as many will attest, with a heart as big as his 200 year old standup bass!Years of honing live performance skills really paid off when he auditioned with Spyro Gyra. Andrew was born and raised in the Philadelphia area and still resides here today. His brother, Peter, conducts the jazz ensemble right here at Villanova! We hope to have Andrew back for another conversation very soon! Enjoy this WXV&U interview. Studio sessions, film dates, international touring, jazz concerts, guest appearances, and clinics keep him busy not only in his hometown of Los Angeles, but worldwide.  Born in Hartford, Connecticut in 1958, Bergeron came to Los Angeles at age one, so considers himself a native Californian. Originally starting on French horn, he switched to trumpet in seventh grade and found he had natural upper register ability. Bergeron credits his junior high and high school teachers, Ron Savitt and Bob Smith, for molding his talent into practical working skills.  Bergeron first caught the ear of many when he landed the lead trumpet chair with Maynard Ferguson's band in 1986. SUMMARYOur guest is critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter Paul Thorn, who has carved out an independent career from his home base in Tupelo, Mississippi, that has earned him legions of dedicated fans. His latest release is a highly personal album titled Never Too Late to Call. PART ONEPaul and Scott chat about the Grammy Awards, somehow find a way to make it all about them, and figure out that being a guest on Songcraft is a great way to get a Grammy nomination. PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Paul ThornABOUT PAUL THORNTupelo, Mississippi, native Paul Thorn started out as a professional boxer before being discovered by Miles Copeland and signing a recording contract with A&M Records. Thorn eventually struck out on his own and formed the independent Perpetual Obscurity Records with manager and songwriting partner Billy Maddox. They've gone on to release nine studio albums, four of which have hit the Billboard charts. All Music writes that Thorn's catalog has “balanced blues, rock, gospel, country, and soul in a singular strain of Americana with songs that embrace the human condition with their humor, irony, pathos, tenderness, heartbreak, grief, anger, and joy.” Though his songs have been recorded by Shenandoah, Tanya Tucker, Toby Keith, Sawyer Brown, Kim Richey, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jerry Jeff Walker, Diane Schuur, and others, nobody delivers a Paul Thorn song with the same touch as the man himself. From “It's a Great Day to Whup Somebody's Ass” to “Pimps & Preachers” to “I Don't Like Half the Folks I Love” to “Mission Temple Fireworks Stand,” Paul's diverse catalog has built a dedicated audience who love his unique sense of the craft and his mesmerizing skills as a performer. His latest album, produced by Matt Ross-Spang in Memphis, is Never Too Late to Call.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Mel Tormé's Son, Steve March-Tormé, Singer / SongwriterAbout Harvey's guest:Steve was born in New York City to the multi-talented Mel Tormé and the former model/actress, Candy Tockstein. They were divorced when Steve was young, and Candy married Hal March, an actor/comedian best known as the host of NBC-TV's The $64,000 Question Show, but who also starred on Broadway in Neil Simon's Come Blow Your Horn. An avid baseball player and fan growing up in Westchester County, N.Y., Steve's dream was to play for the Yankees. He was a devoted fan who listened to games on the radio in the basement of his family home. Following every game, he'd switch to the Top 40 music stations and sing along with such artists as The Four Seasons, Nat King Cole, The Temptations, Ricky Nelson, and Gene Pitney. With his natural ear for harmonies, his favorite quickly became and remains The Beatles. By the age of 12, he knew that he wanted to be a performer, and at 13 he earned his first paycheck fronting his own band. After his family moved to Beverly Hills, he continued to develop as a musician and his influences grew to include Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Todd Rundgren, and Steely Dan.Steve recorded his first LP, Lucky, for United Artists Records, supporting it with a 20-city, national concert tour. Upon returning to California, he produced and sang on Liza Minnelli's Columbia Records release Tropical Nights, which became a favorite of New York dance clubs. He spent three years as the featured vocalist on ABC-TV's $100,000 Name That Tune and also hosted two Los Angeles-based television shows, Video 22 (a precursor to MTV) and Box Office America.Steve's first solo project after Full Swing was his CD Swingin' at the Blue Moon Bar & Grille, recorded with a crackerjack big band. It also features a duet between Steve and Mel (“Straighten Up and Fly Right”) and showcases an improvised scat lesson between father and son. That disc was followed up by The Night I Fell For You, featuring an alluring arrangement of the Lerner & Loewe classic “On the Street Where You Live,” and a number of Steve's original tunes, many penned with longtime collaborator, pianist and musical conductor Steve Rawlins. Those two releases were followed up by The Essence of Love, a collection of some of the most romantic, well-crafted standards ever written, including “Blue Skies,” “Stardust,” “Every Time We Say Goodbye,” and a playful duet with jazz icon Diane Schuur on “The One I Love Belongs To Somebody Else.” His current jazz CD, So Far (on iTunes, cdbaby.com, and amazon.com), combines the most popular material from his first three CDs into one “best of” recording.Steve's latest CD, Inside/Out, goes back to his roots as a singer/songwriter, words and music written by Steve, on which he not only sings but plays keyboards and guitar. Because a natural interest exists in hearing Steve sing the songs his dad was known for, he did a 28-city cross-country tour for Columbia Artists Mgt. Inc. (CAMI) entitled Tormé Sings Tormé. Steve is proud to have had the opportunity to pay tribute to his father in a show featuring a ten-piece band playing the extraordinary arrangements penned by Marty Paich exclusively for Mel and including a multimedia presentation of photos and video clips. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/https://www.stevemarchtorme.com/https://facebook.com/stevemarchtormehttps://twitter.com/stevemarchtormehttps://instagram.com/stevemarchtorme#SteveMarchTorme  #MelTorme  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Before his professional music career began he was a professional boxer where he established a respectable 10–3–1 record. Boxing career highlights include winning the Mid-South Middleweight Championship in Memphis, Tennessee and culminated with a nationally televised bout with former world champion Roberto Durán,[1] After a few years of working in a Tupelo furniture factory and playing in local clubs he was discovered by music professional Miles Copeland (brother of The Police drummer Stewart Copeland). In 1997, while performing at a singer-songwriters night at a local pizza shop (Vanelli's), Roger Sovine representing BMI overheard Thorn and was impressed with his singing and song writing ability. He asked Thorn if he had his permission to share his name with other record companies in Nashville. A couple weeks later, Thorn called vOz Vanelli (owner of Vanelli's) and mentioned that several record companies were coming to Tupelo to hear him perform. Thorn asked if he could come and play at Vanelli's which vOz agreed to. After hearing Thorn perform, Wyatt Easterling (an associate of Miles Copeland III) brought Thorn to Nashville and within thirty days, Thorn opened for Sting. Thorn was subsequently signed to a recording contract with A&M Records and recorded his first album, Hammer & Nail, in 1997. He left A&M soon after and followed Hammer & Nail with thirteen more albums, all self-released and self-produced with his writing and production partner, Billy Maddox.Thorn's 2010 album Pimps and Preachers debuted at No. 83 on the Billboard 200 chart, his highest chart position to date. His 2012 album What the Hell Is Going On was the 12th Most Played Album of 2012 on the Americana Music Association Year-End Chart. What the Hell Is Going On was Thorn's first album to feature the songwriting of other artists and the second record of his to debut on the Billboard Top 100 during its first week of release.Thorn has toured as an opening act for Huey Lewis & the News, Sting, John Prine, Marianne Faithfull, Mark Knopfler, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Jeff Walker, Toby Keith and Jeff Beck.In 2014, Thorn released Too Blessed to Be Stressed, which he described as a collection of "positive anthem songs. I wrote these songs hoping they might put people in a positive mindset and encourage them to count their own blessings, like I count mine," Thorn observes. "There's no higher goal I could set for myself than to help other people find some happiness and gratitude in their lives. In March 2018, Thorn released an album, titled Don't Let the Devil Ride, featuring several covers of gospel songs that were inspiration to him during his youth and adolescence. The album features several prominent artists in that genre such as the Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, Bonnie Bishop, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The album peaked at No. 1 in the Billboard Blues Albums Chart.Later that month, the Mississippi House of Representatives named March 27 'Paul Thorn Day' in recognition of Paul's constant support of his home state. On May 7, 2018, Mississippi Public Broadcasting premiered a special featuring Paul's current tour titled "Mission Temple Fireworks Revival, which features special guests such as the Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, Bonnie Bishop, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.In 2019, Paul Thorn's lead electric guitarist of 30 years, Bill Hinds, parted ways with the band. The two-time Grammy nominee Eric Clapton called “one of the great singer-songwriters” joins us to talk about everything from his 1970s classic "On and On" to writing hits like the Oscar-winning “Separate Lives” for Phil Collins, to the unexpected rootsy influences on his new album, We’ll Talk About It Later In The Car.   EPISODE DETAILS: PART ONE  Scott and Paul catch up after their respective travels to New York and Italy; the new 10-CD Bakersfield Sound box set Scott produced; the winner of our Lamont Dozier contest; and instructions about our listeners' final chance to enter to win a copy of Marty Stuart's new coffee table book.  PART TWO - 6:49 mark Stephen Bishop comes by Songcraft World Headquarters to talk about the TV theme song that first made him pay attention to music; why his stepdad forbid him from playing guitar in the house; the days he faked a British accent to try to get ahead in the music business; how his friendship with Mama Cass's sister led to his big career break.; the time he fooled Quincy Jones by imitating a trombone with his mouth; how his best-known song was born from a single chord he couldn't stop playing; why he didn't like Barbra Streisand's version of his song; how he ended up getting his guitar smashed in Animal House; the crappy springs on Eric Clapton's guest bed; the line he refused to sing in the theme song from Tootsie; and why he says you're never gonna write a great song until you get your heart broken.    ABOUT STEPHEN BISHOP Academy Award winner and two-time Grammy nominee Stephen Bishop is a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who began his career as a staff writer for a Los Angeles-based music publishing company. After finding success with Art Garfunkel’s recordings of his material, Stephen launched his own artist career with the album Careless, featuring the now-classic hits “Save it for a Rainy Day” and “On and On.” Bishop went on to find success with a number of self-penned hits as an artist, including “Everybody Needs Love,” “Send a Little Love My Way,” “If Love Takes You Away,” “Unfaithfully Yours,” and “Animal House,” the theme song for the National Lampoon's movie of the same name. Bishop also performed the song “It Might Be You” from the film Tootsie, which went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary Charts. Written by the team of Dave Grusin with Alan and Marilyn Bergman, the song won an Academy Award. Stephen went on to win his own Academy Award as a songwriter when he penned “Separate Lives,” which was featured in the film White Nights and became a chart-topping hit duet for Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin. Other artists who’ve covered Stephen’s songs include Eric Clapton, Kenny Loggins, David Crosby, Steve Perry,  The Four Tops, Johnny Mathis, Luciano Pavarotti, Helen Reddy, Diane Schuur, Phoebe Snow, Barbra Streisand, and Beyonce. In his autobiography, Eric Clapton wrote that Stephen was “a close friend during the seventies…whom I regard as one of the great singer-songwriters.”
