Today on Too Opinionated we sit down with multi-Grammy winning keyboardist George Whitty to talk about his new musical endeavour WHAT!!!! In addition to playing live with the likes of The Brecker Brothers, Herbie Hancock, the late David Sanborn and Chaka Khan, as producer and session keyboardist, Whitty's credits include Santana's blockbuster Supernatural (with Dave Matthews), Celine Dion's Falling Into You and These Are Special Times, Hancock's The Imagine Project and hundreds of others. He has won four Grammys for his work on Chaka Khan's The Woman I Am, Randy Brecker's 34th and Lex, Michael Brecker's Tales From the Hudson and the Brecker Bros.' Out of the Loop. Amidst all the searing soul balladry, deep spirituality, insightful and impactful social consciousness and rousing funk on their infectious dual album In the World, legendary, world-wise cats George Whitty and Ellis Hall – collectively pooling their decades of musical passion as Whitty Hall Artistic Team, aka WHAT!!!! - infuse a beloved, inevitable R&B classic into the enticing mix. Driven by Hall's trademark rousing vocals, their fiery, tight groovin' and brass fired twist on Isaac Hayes' co-penned “I Thank You” takes the 1968 Sam & Dave classic to fresh, exciting heights. It's a way for the duo to express gratitude for their incredible individual careers and all the serendipitous events that led them to this epic moment.   One of many potential hit singles and film licensing opportunities from the 10-track collection, “Die Living” is a simmering blues-soul anthem whose title came to Whitty out of the blue one day and led him to create a powerfully rhythmic gospel-influenced song with a bit of a raw front porch vibe. Hall's combination of vocals and organ drive the track, and he also adds various guitar tracks. In part inspired by a cool response Willie Nelson once gave a journalist who dared to ask if he would ever think of retiring, “Die Living” offers dynamic food for thought about wringing as much meaningful life experience we can during our time on this planet.  WHAT!!!!'s new album In the World releases on February 14th, 2025.  Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod (Please Subscribe)

This is the WORLD PREMIERE of “THE RICH ONES ALL STARS”, the new extended version of my recent single, “The Rich Ones”. The new version features me and my band, Project Grand Slam, along with 8 World Class musicians who previously have been guests on this podcast. Here's the back story.A few months ago I released a single, “The Rich Ones”, featuring Randy Brecker of Blood Sweat & Tears fame on flugelhorn. The single was very popular, and I decided to do something a bit daring and different. I've had many World Class musicians as guests on the podcast. So I asked several of them if they would record a new solo for the track and I would release a new, extended version of the tune. I'm pleased to say that everyone who I asked agreed. The new version, “The Rich Ones All Stars”, features the following musicians in this order.BILLY COBHAM of Mahavishnu Orchestra fame, recorded a new drum track for the tune. Billy is one of the most revered drummers of all time.I kept RANDY BRECKER'S flugelhorn solo from the original version of the tune because it's just so darn good.JOHN HELLIWELL was the saxophonist in Supertramp, one of the greatest bands of the rock era. John contributed a fantastic sax solo to the piece.PAT COIL is an acclaimed jazz pianist who has performed with Michael McDonald, Carmen McRae and many others. He added a sublime piano solo.PETER TIEHUIS is the heralded Dutch guitarist who performs with the Metropole Orkest. He contributed a wonderful guitar solo.ANTONIO FARAO is the extraordinary Italian jazz keyboard player who has performed with Joe Lovano and Jack DeJohnette among others. Antonio contributed a smokin' Fender Rhodes keyboard solo.ELLIOTT RANDALL is the incredible guitarist who gave the world the unforgettable solo on Steely Dan's “Reelin' In The Years”. Elliott gave me a classic guitar solo for the new track. And last, but certainly not least, is DAVID AMRAM, who is, simply put, a National Treasure at 96 years young. He was Leonard Bernstein's first composer in residence for the New York Philharmonic and also the composer for Shakespeare In The Park among many other accomplishments. David contributed a stunning Pennywhistle solo for the track. So there it is. 8 World Class musicians who have contributed their talent to this project.TO WATCH THE OFFICIAL VIDEO CLICK HERETO LISTEN AND STREAM THE TRACK AND FOR ALL LINKS CLICK HERE---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. To subscribe to the podcast click here .To subscribe to our weekly Follow Your Dream Podcast email click here.To Rate and Review the podcast click here.“Dream With Robert”. In this conversation recorded during Botti at Sea '24, as part of the Jazz on Film series hosted by Lee Mergner, we showed a bit of Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, Stanley Nelson's 2019 documentary about the great trumpeter.  To talk about Miles' life and legacy, we asked another great trumpeter, Randy Brecker, who has always been a marvelous story teller.  Perhaps no other artist lends themself more to stories than Miles Davis.  Randy not only put Miles' singular influence in perspective, but shared some of his personal encounters with Miles, including their exchange about who discovered the wah wah peddle first.

Kris Myers was born on April 5, 1977. Receiving a drum kit at the age of 8, he took an early interest in jazz, rock and punk music. During high school Myers co-started his first musical outfit, a ska/punk band called the Skalawags. The group received a decent amount of success but denied an offer to tour Japan to instead pursue college degrees. Myers attended Elmhurst College from 1995 – 1999 where he was a music major and the drummer in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Under director Doug Beach, the Elmhurst College Jazz Band played gigs in the U.S. and Internationally at events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2001 Myers enrolled in DePaul University where he earned his master's degree in jazz drumming and was a member of the Rob Parton Orchestra.  In addition to his involvement in school bands, Myers was playing in festivals with a variety of jazz artists such as Nicholas Payton, Diane Schuur, Randy Brecker, Dennis DiBlasio as well as local musicians Mark Colby and John McLean.  Myers also was a member of Chicago jazz fusion band Kick the Cat.  Myers began playing drums for progressive-rock band Umphrey's McGee in 2003 following the departure of original drummer Mike Mirro. With Myers at the helm, Umphrey's has released ten albums and maintains a rigorous touring schedule of over 100 live shows per year.  Umphrey's has performed at legendary festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre and more. In 2011 Myers was honored with the title of Best Jam Band Drummer by DRUM Magazine, beating jamband stalwarts such as Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers) and Jon Fishman (Phish). In 2018, Myers was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer's July issue. Myers placed second in the Experimental Rock category of the publication's “Readers Poll Awards” behind St. Vincent drummer Matt Johnson. It's hard to put into words what it means to meet your heroes. To be able hit record 5 minutes later and get to share that conversation with you is one of the prouder moments of my career. With stories about how he started out, practicing in a shed in Steve Smith's backyard, to walking into Electric Ladyland in New York City for a record date where the horn section was Michael and Randy Brecker and Barry Rogers, we cover a lot of ground in this conversation. John Tesh, Tracy Chapman, Chick Corea, Lee Ritenour, Vince Neal, Billy Cobham, Mike Stern, Vinnie Colaiuta, Frank Gambale, about a thousand other legendary recording artists grace the pages of Tim's career highlights. I hope this is the first of many times I get to pick Tim's brain and share it with you. The man is a treasure chest of knowledge and experience with some of the best music and bass related stories you could hope to hear. Welcome to a Very Special Episode of the podcast celebrating the show's 3rd Anniversary! I started the podcast in March 2021 during the depths of the pandemic, when musicians like me couldn't play live. It was a bleak time for all of us. I needed to find a creative outlet and so I started this podcast. From the beginning it grew quickly and exponentially. It's been ranked for some time now in the Top 1% of all podcasts. I have listeners worldwide on every continent in 200 countries, and it has won several awards! My guests have included many of the world's most famous musicians and other creatives.Last year to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary I played excerpts from several guest interviews. But for this 3rd Anniversary show I wanted to do something different - and fun. So here's what I decided. After each interview I ask my guest to record a short promo for the podcast. I use these promos at the beginning of other guest interviews. Everyone does their promo a little differently in their own style. After all, they're artists! So I thought it would be fun to put together a montage of promos featuring a slew of my guests. The entire list is below.I want to thank my guests and my listeners for the success of the podcast. As I like to say - Keep On Rockin'! Featured Guests:"Cousin Brucie" Morrow, John Lodge, Ted Nugent, Al Kooper, Gary Puckett, Suzi Quatro, Tony Orlando, William Lee Golden, Richie Furay, Peter Noone, Timothy B. Send us a Text Message. When Lee Finkelstein lays down a beat, it's not just rhythm—he's telling a story, painting a landscape. It's a philosophy I, John Simeone, share wholeheartedly. Our recent conversation took us on a tour through the world of drumming, where we unpacked the essence of what it means to truly play for the music. Lee, with his wealth of experience across genres, emphasizes the idea that serving the song trumps personal showmanship. We riff on the camaraderie between drummers, the joy found in simplicity, and the magnetic pull of a groove that unites a band. The heartbeat of our episode pulses with discussions on live performance and the wisdom Lee shares gleaned from playing with legends like the Blues Brothers band and stepping in for David Garibaldi with Tower of Power. As we explore the shifting tides of the music industry, we offer nuggets of advice for up-and-coming drummers striving to stay relevant. Join us as we share stories of triumph, the humbling moments of our careers, and the lessons that resonate beyond the stage.
