How can we use technology to nurture a more inclusive culture in digital art, electronic music, and beyond? In June 2019, Somerset House Studios partnered with Mutek and the British Council to host the Amplify Residency, bringing together eleven female and non-binary digital artists and electronic musicians from across world for a week of talks, presentations and performances. Artists in residence rkss, Ale Hop, Sabrina Ratte and Milena Pafundi reflect upon (Inter-), a 2-day programme of installations, presentations, panel discussions and live performances exploring image, sound and digital art. Ursula K. Le Guin wrote that “technology is the active human interface with the material world”. From the digital tools that platform and enable activism, to architecture that tacitly governs our movement through space, technology has changed the ways in which we create, communicate and relate to each other. (Inter-) is born out of Amplify, an ambitious initiative that connects an active network of female-identifying artists and curators working in the digital arts and immersive storytelling sectors in Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and the UK. Amplify took place for the first time during MUTEK Montréal in 2018, followed by editions at Mutek in Buenos Aires and Mexico City. Eleven artists from the UK and Americas were in residence at Somerset House for 5 days, including Milena Pafundi and Prifma from Argentina, Edna King, x/o, Push 1stop & Wiklow, RAMZi, and Sabrina Ratte from Canada, Ale Hop and Analucia Roeder will represent Peru and from the UK, Marija Bozinovska Jones and rkss. In Partnership with British Council and MUTEK. Canadian Amplify artists are supported by the British Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. A Reduced Listening and Somerset House Studios production. Produced by Jessie Lawson. Mixing by Steve Wyatt.

POOLcast 015 - Overshift After grazing in our own garden the last months with POOLcasts from Akatana over Dinelka and Wiklow to Anomali we had the feeling that it is time again for fresh faces. We move over the atlantic ocean: US east coast, New Jersey, and order some west coast music from Overshift. In the case of Overshift, fresh face does not mean newcomer. He is active for years and released tons of music on various minimal and techno labels. Lately he explored more and more experimental spheres and released his “Contemplate EP” on Micromod music, whereon you can hear his techno background in forms of sequenced synth lines and percussion grooves. All this he spiced up with ambiences, vivid textures and driving drones. For his POOLcast issue he pushed himself a big step towards experimental music. Overshift starts with music concrete inspired west coast freestyle and heads more and more to east coast sound where big drones and epic pads preach good old ambient. Take a cup of tape hiss and listen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overshift https://www.facebook.com/overshift/?fref=ts https://soundcloud.com/overshift ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The POOL Berlin - POOLcast http://thepoolberlin.de https://facebook.com/poolcastberlin/ https://poolcast.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/thepoolberlin/ https://mixcloud.com/ThePoolcasts/
POOLcast 013 - Wiklow We here at ‘The POOL Berlin’ constantly thinking about and working on our projects. We have many new ideas for POOLcast as well as for The POOL Berlin in general. With our last issue for 2016 we announce upcoming changes for 2017 and how we share the POOLcast in the future. But for now were looking at the cozy time that lies ahead and invited Wiklow from canada for POOLcast 013. Wiklow aka Myke Dean is a producer and live act from Montreal, Canada. He’s linked to the Hushlamb crew and host of the Free Range show on Lo Signal CKUT 90.3FM. Playing music from more club orientated music imprints over to all the small diamants of the post techno independence scene. He tries to search and spotlight the diversity of our electronic music scene. Personally Wiklow found his glowing sanctuary in ambient music. For POOLcast 013 he choose a picturesquely sequenced version of ambient. Not afraid of using beats and grooves Creating a cosm where deep synth tracks interfere with dense ambiences. Turn 2016 off. See you next year. ------------------------------------------------------ Wiklow https://soundcloud.com/wiklow https://www.facebook.com/Wiklow Hushlamb https://www.facebook.com/hushlamb/ https://soundcloud.com/hushlamb Lo Signal https://ckut.ca/en/content/lo-signal-1 https://www.facebook.com/losignal/ ------------------------------------------------------- The POOL Berlin - POOLcast http://thepoolberlin.de https://facebook.com/poolcastberlin/ https://poolcast.bandcamp.com/ https://soundcloud.com/thepoolberlin/ https://mixcloud.com/ThePoolcasts/
