Produced by Joseph Cottrell, Wayne Hall, Ken Fuller and Jeffrey Crecelius Following a suggestion from the latest member of the Patreon YMP group, Thomas DeVries, Mark and I delved into Yes sporting links this week. It was great fun to learn about all the ways in which music and sport have collided over the decades and we were helped out by several kind contributors Dave Watkinson, Henry Potts, Geoff Bailie and Jon Pickles. If you have any other examples of sporting Yes links, please do add them to the show notes for this week. Also, just in case it doesn't come across in the conversation later, I am aware that Brentford football club are now in the English Premier League. When Rick Wakeman was involved with them, they were rather more of a struggling club. What sports feature in Yes' history? Which Yes member had more than one financial run-in with sports teams? What was Yes United? After the nervy end to the 1-0 win at Brentford, David Mooney is joined by City fans Andy MacNab and Adam Monk to discuss Manchester City's recent form. The first half was dominant, the second half needed some fighting spirit... but three points is three points, so where does that leave City against their competitors this season? The victory is also Pep Guardiola's 250th in the Premier League, making him the fastest manager to hit that landmark. The Athletic's Duncan Alexander joins us to talk about that achievement. We also hear from the model Lucy Clarkson... She was the second person to play Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series and appeared at Maine Road when the game's publisher, Eidos, were the club's shirt sponsor. We get her memories of being frozen solid, giving out the man of the match award at the Manchester Derby in November 2000. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. #921 | Another week, another crisis. United collapse 3–1 at Brentford and the questions keep piling up. Ed and Adam pick through the wreckage - from fan fury to the manager's failing system, and the uncomfortable truth that some of United's best performers are currently thriving out on loan. There's a broader look at the club's structure, coaching set-up, and whether the board has the courage (or competence) to act. Who would take the reins if Amorim goes? And what does it say about United's trajectory that Europe's top competition rolls on without them? Finally, a glance towards Sunderland at Old Trafford, and whether the players - and the manager - can arrest the slide. After an agonising last-minute equaliser in Monaco (with a fair bit of controversy thrown in), David Mooney is joined by City fan Dan Burke and, from Sporting News, Dom Farrell, to discuss Manchester City's victory over Burnley and their draw in the Champions League. Did the scorelines of each game tell the whole story? Possibly not. Erling Haaland's brace against Burnley made him the Premier League's top-scoring Norwegian, so we take a look at all of the other players that have played City who are their country's leading marksman in the top flight (and we discuss some of our favourite goals by them). Then, as City travel to Brentford, before the international break, we hear from Mike Johnston from The Ealing Road podcast to find out about their start to the season - plus we look ahead to the match and what we want to see from Pep Guardiola's side. We also take some time out to mention some awful refereeing decisions from the past, plus look at Bernardo Silva's pre-match comments about his future.
Matt recaps the fallout from week 6 in the Premier League. Manchester United turn back into a pumpkin losing to Brentford, Chelsea shot themselves in the foot with another silly red card, and Arsenal earn all three points with a late winner at Newcastle. Week 7 predictions close the show. Hope you enjoy!

Crystal Palace became the first team to beat Liverpool this season as Eddie Nketiah's late strike extended the Eagles' unbeaten run to 18 games. But does the latest scalp make Oliver Glasner a target for clubs looking for a manager in the near future? Speaking of managers facing the job centre, Ruben Amorim lost another game as pressure on his position went up another notch. Brentford were the latest side to work out the Portuguese's tactics, as the back three failed miserably again. #920 | Ed and Dharnish pick apart United's defeat at Brentford – another game of aimless long balls, players out of position, and a system that looks increasingly unworkable. The expected goals against keeps piling up, the chances created are toothless, and Ruben Amorim's supposed philosophy remains nowhere to be seen. There's debate over Bruno Fernandes' role, attacking patterns that break down before they begin, and whether the summer signings are doing anything to shift the needle. It's hard not to question whether Amorim can actually turn this around. Still, Sunderland is next – and with it, a sliver of hope. Suj and James review the weekend of Gameweek 6 where many who Wildcarded and those who used the Triple Captaincy had success... spare a thought for those who don't own Erling Haaland... because it was another week where for many returns were difficult to come by. All the games discussed, including Arsenal's late and deserved win at Newcastle and it's Gunners assets who are likely to be a priority for many FPL managers this week as they prepare to host West Ham United, now managed by Nuno Espirito Santo. Crystal Palace maintained their strong start with their own late victory against Liverpool, City hit five as Haaland too left it late on a weekend where nine goals were scored in added time. One of those goals was scored by Tottenham, but James was far from happy with their draw against a Wolves side who went into the weekend without a point. Chelsea were again beaten after a man was sent off and the Manchester United inquest continues after defeat at Brentford. There's also chat on the continued success of DEFCON monsters such as Marcos Senesi, fixture turns, concern for Nottingham Forest and more... #919 | Ed and Dan pick through United's latest mess - a limp defeat at Brentford that exposed all of Ruben Amorim's tactical blind spots. The formation remains fixed, the long-ball obsession continues, and player positioning is all over the shop. It's starting to feel like the manager is running out of answers. There's talk of set-piece disasters, defensive gaps you could drive a bus through, and the creeping question of whether Amorim is really the man to take this team forward. A bright spot?
