On James' live steam this afternoon, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham and Liverpool assets are creating keen interest for FPL managers and there's coverage of James' preferences and several other transfer and benching dilemmas. Plus, a reminder of being prepared to change strategy and for some the temptation to bench boost now is becoming increasingly apparent - and that even includes James, who describes this moment as the biggest decision of his FPL season...! And what is the latest on Evan Ferguson's injury woe at Roma? There is a healthy discussion around Jack Moylan and whether he could be in a squad, and also is there room for a Sinclair Armstrong?Matthew regales the excellence of fan favourite David 'Didzy' McGoldrick and what could have been. After Minister for Sport Patrick O'Donovan's comments after the Louth derby, the lads get into why Irish football fan culture is so important and why it is changing. And there is an update as to why the violence in Mexico is something worth keeping an eye on ahead of this summer's World Cup.And as ever, we are looking for your inspiration to help us, fancy getting in touch? You can do so by emailing outsidetheboxotb2026@gmail.com Contact us on socials @offtheball across all our platforms.Or if you want to contact us directly message the @offtheball.football account on Instagram. And as ever, we are on WhatsApp on 087 9 180 180.Become a member and sign up at offtheball.com/join
Episode Notes Ireland vs Israel Boycott, Arsenal Win NLD & Hearts Top of SPL! Check out our other social media here: Don't forget to check out our other socials here: https://linktree.com/IFFTV Jeff Hendrick joins Irish Football Fan TV for an honest look at the Israel boycott debate, plus a massive breakdown of the Premier League and Scottish Premiership weekend! With a World Cup playoff in Prague just around the corner, we discuss if the FAI should step in to protect the players from political fallout. But that's not all—we're diving into a wild weekend of club football:
Suj and James fared very differently again in FPL in GW27 as clean sheets were bust, well owned players flopped but one hauler for James in Nico O'Reilly made the difference; but there is no doubt as James even concedes, that there was big slice of luck that he even still owned him. That was the highlight of a weekend for James, which ended with another North London Derby humbling as Tottenham continue to look nervously over their shoulder at West Ham and Nottingham Forest, who both failed to score but were unlucky to do so. There's a much promised look at Rayan and comparison to other midfielders in a similiar price bracket. Bournemouth along with Brentford, Fulham and Liverpool assets are likely to be popular this week, should Arsenal players be binned despite Sunday's comfortable win, Chelsea's brilliant fixture run is over and they slipped up against Burnley, should their assets including the in-form Joao Pedro be moved on too? All the games covered, the OOP not called O'Reilly catching the eye despite a blank and lots more... We're back with another episode of A (Non) League Of Their Own! Join us every other Wednesday at 5pm where we discuss the best Non-League stories from up & down the country, from The National League to The Dog & Duck & everything in between. This week we were joined by Gaz, Jordan and returning favourite Gary Stopforth as we chat about Jonno's decision to leave Radcliffe, Droylsden vs Bilston Town fight and Macclesfield's unlucky defeat to Brentford in the FA Cup! We also talked about Jordan's referee rant on twitter, Director Of Football goalkeepers, Chorley's 10/10 hospitality and horror tackles!
On this week's episode, Mike, Craig and Dan reflect on the 1-0 win at Macclesfield which secured our passage into the fifth round of the FA Cup, and look ahead to a return to Premier League action against Brighton on Saturday. Brentford required a second half own goal from Sam Heathcote in order to get past their non-league opposition, and that slice of luck sets up an all-Premier League clash against West Ham in the next round - we chat about how seriously we should take this opportunity. We also chat about Brighton's recent slump under Fabian Hurzeler, and the kind of game we can expect from Brentford at the weekend. The second half of the Wolves vs. Arsenal game was being played during the recording of this episode. When Gabriel provided an assist for Hincapié, Jacob and Jiayang—who had both triple-captained him—exclaimed with joy. Jiayang, in particular, manifested that Gabriel would finish the gameweek with at least 12 points. Five minutes later, Hugo Bueno wiped out Arsenal's clean sheet, bringing Gabriel down to 8 points. We proceeded to discuss this week's hefty Dilemma Deliberation, regarding which assets to target from teams with kind fixtures ahead. After reaching some good conclusions about Brentford, Fulham, Villa, and Liverpool, we moved onto a quick captaincy segment, before getting ready to wrap up the episode. Lo and behold, just as Jiayang was about to wish everyone a healthy green arrow, Jacob jumps in with one more update from the game: Calafiori had scored an own goal in the 94th minute, meaning Man City are now only five points behind with a game in hand—and with Arsenal still yet to visit the Etihad this season. But more importantly, in addition to putting a humongous dent in Arsenal's title ambitions, this own goal meant Gabriel had now sunk to a measly 7 points. Heartbreak for Gunners, heartbreak for Gabriel triple-captainers. Who has it worse, really?
Host Ricky Sacks and Co-Host Billie T are joined by Tottenham Hotspur reporter Jay Harris from The Athletic, as we delve into Jay's time so far covering the Club in the last 18 months which has included Spurs winning a major European trophy, than sacking that manager in Ange Postecoglou. The Club than hiring Thomas Frank, who Jay knows very well having covered his 7 years at Brentford, we discuss where it wrong at Spurs and if there is anyway he could have been successful at Tottenham. During Frank's reign Daniel Levy was removed as Chairman, we get Jay's opinion on the fans genuine concern over the role of The Lewis Family and their intentions long-term for the Club, and whether current Sporting Director Johan Lange and CEO Vinai Venkatesham have already burnt their bridges with supporters over failed promises, in addition to Fabio Paratici's exit mid-season. We close on Igor Tudor's appointment, the shake-up of the backroom staff, what we have made of first interview and whether he can save Tottenham Hotspur from relegation and critically, who will be in the managerial hot-seat come the summer. Rio is joined by Ste and Joel to look back at a weekend which saw Trent Alexander-Arnold be compared to David Beckham, Harry Kane beat Cristiano Ronaldo to a momentus milestone and the dust settled on Thomas Tuchel's contract extension as England manager. With the title race taking a break for the FA Cup, Ste doesn't take a break in analysing Arsena's title credentials catching up with Joel for the first time since Arteta's side dropped points at Brentford. Rio points out the key role of players within the dressing room who maintain perspective and are able to remain calm in this type of high-pressure situation.Joel poses the question about whether German football fans are more appreciative of England striker Harry Kane than supporters of the national team and Rio heaps praise on the forward who beat Ronaldo by ten matches to score 500 career goals.Ste and Joel produce various different stats when analysing the performance of Trent while Rio details why his passing ability is a skill that can often be under rated and appreciated considering all of the factors that are required to excel at that part of the game. In this episode I'm joined by Ryan Hunn of the Stadio podcast to pore over last night's 1-1 draw with Brentford. We discuss a first half in which nothing much happened, but one which raised further questions about Eberechi Eze, and how we get more out him in an Arsenal shirt. The half-time introduction of Martin Odegaard helped, Noni Madueke put us ahead but we immediately sat back and Brentford equalised not long afterwards. We try and explain how and why that happened, as well as chatting about the final stages of the game in which we could have both won and last the game, coping with the chaos of the opposition set-pieces, hindsight substitutions, the grind of the Premier League, what Mikel Arteta will do – if anything – to try and find the attacking spark, and lots more.Follow Ryan on BlueSky here: https://bsky.app/profile/ryanhunn.bsky.socialGet extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast.
