Our guest this week is Bonobo. UK musician Simon Green has spent over twenty-six years and seven albums building one of electronic music's most distinctive careers, blending field recordings, organic sounds and electronic production in a way that has earned him seven Grammy nominations and collaborations with artists like Erykah Badu and Damon Albarn. In early September he released Distance in Static, his eighth studio record, bringing together collaborators like Arooj Aftab and Nilüfer Yanya for another stunning collection of songs, and one Simon has hinted could be the last Bonobo record in its traditional format. A nice place to be, c'est le 8ème album de Fakear. Que de chemin parcouru depuis La Lune Rousse en 2014 ! Le musicien normand, Théo Le Vigoureux est devenu un producteur aguerri, un DJ réputé, connu aussi pour son engagement pour la planète. Autour de la bande de son label Nowadays Records, c'est aussi devenu un ami de Tsugi Radio, visiteur du soir régulier et attachant derrière nos platines. Une petite heure de conversation autour de la dance music britannique, la UK garage et cette mélancolie heureuse si caractéristique de la musique des Anglais. Toujours solidement appuyé sur les fondations de ses mentors Bonobo, Four Tet, rejoints récemment par Fred Again, Fakear trace sa route entre souvenirs d'enfance, tempi qui s'affolent et fulgurances harmoniques. My friends Karim and Karen had a BBQ, and I DJed there alongside a few other excellent selectors. We were outside in the evening, but moved proceedings into their kitchen later on to keep the neighbours onside - because it was LOUD! I had the closing set - about 2am to about 4am... and about 15 mins in I remembered to hit record! Kept the energy high, and bounced through the genres like nobody's business. Chunky house beats, old school and ravey vibes, some loopy nonsense and of course a few forays into disco. Some of the mixing is probably not the best, I was a bit worse for wear by this hour, but people didn't seem to mind. It was lots of fun! Anna is the official organist of the Royal Albert Hall in London, a successful recording artiste and a social media star with millions of followers. A multi-instrumentalist, she was the youngest ever person to be appointed Director of Music at a Cambridge college (and we will hear a bit of Pembroke College chapel choir singing in this episode). In this conversation with Gyles, she tells him about her childhood growing up in a close family in which her parents inspired her with their work ethic. She talks about learning 20 instruments as a child and teenager, and finally taking up the organ when she was 15. She talks about the breakthrough moment in which she accompanied the band Bonobo at the Royal Albert Hall - creating a viral video which has been shared millions of times on social media.
