I had the opportunity to talk to electronic-industrial pioneer MARK PISTEL, musician, music producer, engineer and founder of the legendary industrial band CONSOLIDATED founded in San Francisco in 1988.As a multi- instrumentalist, Pistel has been the driving force behind Consolidated and has made a significant mark in the music industry and in the electronic and industrial scenes, such as his collaboration with Meat Beat Manifesto, Hercules and Love Affair and Until December. Pistel's career also includes remixing and engineering for a variety of artists across genres, showcasing his versatility and technical prowess. He has worked with many artists such as musician/ fashion icon Grace Jones, flamboyant disco singer Sylvester, producer and dub innovator Adrian Sherwood- and more recently, remixing San Francisco's Octavian Winters' latest release "Velveteen" (Mark Pistel remix), and releasing a single with multi-dimensional artist Rykarda Parasol, a song called Northern Light and so much more. His contributions to the music world are celebrated for pushing boundaries both sonically and socially. He continues to innovate, blending technology with musical artistry to create dynamic, impactful soundscapes in his recording studio called ROOM 5 . Raymond Watts in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.pigindustries.com/ Following hot on the heels of his new album ‘Red Room' (released in May 2024), industrial rock mainstay Raymond Watts aka PIG has today reissued a fully remastered version of his seminal mid-‘90s album ‘Sinsation' via Metropolis Records (CD, digital) and Armalyte Industries (deluxe 2xLP vinyl). Out of print for almost three decades, it makes a timely reappearance just ahead of a North American tour.'Sinsation' was originally released in 1995 on Nothing Records, the label established by Nine Inch Nails kingpin Trent Reznor, and not long after PIG had opened for NIN at a number of shows. Nothing was an influential and commercially successful label with a cult underground following that also issued records by Marilyn Manson, Squarepusher, Autechre, Meat Beat Manifesto, Pop Will Eat Itself, Einstürzende Neubauten and Plaid, as well as NIN themselves.

This perilously entertaining episode of Electronically Yours features electronic musician, DJ, producer, and remixer Jack Dangers. He is best known for his sterling work as the main man behind Meat Beat Manifesto, and has collaborated or remixed for David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, David Byrne, DJ Spooky, Merzbow, Depeche Mode and Coil amongst many, many others. Jack is also a rare synth nut, and an avid collector of unusual video and audio recordings. Ladies and gentlemen, treat yourself to the prime audio soup of the one and only Jack Dangers... I have a handful of mixes that i return to regularly. Orangewarrior's Retro 97 Mix is one. Warp's Artificial Intelligence album was also recently reissued on vinyl which has got me back into listening electronic tracks from the early-mid 90s, and seeking out the Orangewarrior tracklist. I did have a pause before i created my own mix - is it ok to take another DJ's tracklist and use it? I'm at peace with that, if i give 3 tributes i think: 1 to Orangewarrior for a fantastic mix, which i strongly recommend you check out (see below) 1 to Headphone Commute for this and other amazing mixes on his channel 1 to all the brilliant artists and tracks So - my interpretation of OW's mix, featuring B12, FSOL, Aphex Twin, Speedy J, Nightmares on Wax, Peshay, Bola, Beaumont Hannant, La Funk Mob, Boards of Canada, LFO, DJ Shadown, Dj Food, The Orb, Air, Link, Photek, Meat Beat Manifesto, Plaid, RAC, Sun Electric and the Sabres of Paradise Headphonecommute – Orangewarrior-retro-97-mix
Vanillaphase are a four piece electronic band from Cleveland, Ohio who believe in the cross pollination of musical ideas from diverse genres. Harnessing the power of bone-shaking beats welded with catchy melodies, lush harmonies, and spacey atmospherics, Vanillaphase are tour-de-force in musical surrealism and have been described as “a musical portal to a blissed out galaxy”. Formed in the quarantine days of late 2020, Nico Denaldo, Taylor Ripley and Rick Taggert quickly released their sultry debut EP, “One Trick Pony”, as well as the uptempo, full-throttle single, “Almost Supernova” in early 2021. They further showcased their unique vibe with a string of livestream performances during the pandemic, the latest of which was highlighted by the late-summer addition of their new female vocal powerhouse, Generic Goth Girl. Their heavy, yet polished electronic sound is a satisfying, seamless mix of trip hop and post-industrial, touching on elements of their collective influences, ranging from Thrill Kill Kult and Meat Beat Manifesto to Aphex Twin and The Orb. They released their new album Magic Suitcase on August 12th, 2022. https://www.facebook.com/Vanillaphase https://twitter.com/_mr_jackpots https://www.tiktok.com/@vanillaphase https://soundcloud.com/vanillaphase https://www.youtube.com/channel/@vanillaphase https://vanillaphase.com/press-kit/

This episode is basically a live "liner notes" for the playlist in which we discuss all the major figures and songs featured in the mix. You can find the playlist on both Spotify and Apple Music.
The year is 1999 (I mean, not now, don't panic, aahh, be good though woudn't it? It wouldn't be 2020) so we get into the soundtrack of the year's most movie: The Matrix. Mainly out of our depth with a bunch of dancy house stuff but we muscle through it with our usual charm.
As selected by our Patreon backers, this month the Senior Staff is running a track by track commentary on the third LP from Jack Dangers' genre-hopping, sample-mad Meat Beat Manifesto project. We're talking about how hip-hop, funk, and electro all come together on a record that pointed the way towards the electronic takeover of 90s radio, and the thorny question of Meat Beat's proximity to or distance from industrial music at large.

Referred to as “the Sid Vicious of the DJ’s because of his violent on-stage fits, I had the privilege to interview turntablist, producer and rock star, DJ Swamp. His musical influences range from hip hop, to metal, punk, industrial and anything in between.Known for his extraordinary turntable skills on vinyl, his breakbeats, scratching, juggling, spitting fire, mutilating LPs and vinyl without losing a beat appeals to his many fans and spectators. In 1996 DJ Swamp took the title of USA DMC Champion before receiving a call from Grammy award-winning singer, Beck. He became a member of Beck and toured with the band for 4 years traveling all over the world. Swamp then released his solo debut album, "Never is now." Since then he has released several albums. He has also worked with Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto, Kid Rock, Ben Folds, Vanilla Ice, Ministry, Crystal Method, just to name a few. He was also the first DJ to use 3D music video scratching. DJ Swamp has produced several DJ tools that are considered standards, including "skip-proof" records, which have the same sample repeated over and over so that if the needle is bumped it will land in the same sample.www.djswamp.comDJ Swamp will be performing in Hawaii on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Downbeat Lounge ( 42 N. Rashers Tierney takes up the reins for a solo run on this month's edition of Holler. Beardy is off with an eye injury. He listened to a bassline so nasty his face literally exploded. We have the photos and doctors note to proof it, but GDPR and child protection issues mean we are prevented. Expect two hours of dark dubby freakouts, blasts of ravey breaks, nu-skool 2step and dark side DNB. Tune in for wanders through tunes from Source Direct, Meat Beat Manifesto, DJ Sega, UVB-76, Jon E Cash, Ticklish, Fracture, Pessimist, Nakara, Primitive Art, O.B.F and rakes more. Renegade Soundwave - Cocaine Sex Edit By Mr Turner Free DL >> https://hypeddit.com/track/b0mxsn Renegade Soundwave - pioneering & influential electronic music group. Early use of sampling and computer technology, DJ skills, sub-bass exploration. Formed in London during the late '80s, Renegade Soundwave applied the punk and industrial ethic to both dub and dancefloor electronica, in good company with fellow sound terrorists throughout the decade, from Cabaret Voltaire to Skinny Puppy and Meat Beat Manifesto. The trio of Gary Asquith, Danny Briottet and Carl Bonnie debuted on Rhythm King with the 1987 single "Kray Twins," and moved to Mute one year later for an EP, Biting My Nails. Though Renegade Soundwave spent two years recording material for an album, the release of Soundclash and In Dub within six months vindicated them somewhat. The seminal album RSW In Dub joined the dots in the emerging electronic, rave, dub and indie scenes of late 80s / early 90s. Cited as major influence on artists such as The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and the Drum & Bass, Techno, Breakbeat and Trip Hop movements. "Probably a Robbery" (from Soundclash), made the British Top 40 early in 1990, though perhaps the band's most highly regarded track The Phantom has proved an enduring anthem from the rave era. The Phantom, Women Respond to Bass, Ozone Breakdown, Probably a Robbery,Biting My Nails and Renegade Soundwave were top five US Billboard Dance singles. Bonnie left in 1990, for a solo career. Asquith and Briottet spent several years in isolation before emerging in 1994 with the "Renegade Soundwave" single and the album How You Doin? During late 1994, after playing their first live date since their participation in 1991's "Mute Over America" tour, the duo released Brixton and The Next Chapter of Dub the following year. The compilation RSW 87-95 emerged in 1996.

Records. One of the most diversely talented musicians I’ve spoken with, Joe is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist fluent in everything from classical music to punk rock. He’s also licensed his music to well-known movies and television shows… he’s a paid consultant and a major independent developer for Apple’s Logic, GarageBand and MainStage Programs… he’s developed an incredible line of fuzz pedals used by people like Richard Fortus, Blake Mills, Lyle Workman, Mike Keneally, John Bohlinger, Adam Levy, Jane Weidlin, Pete Thorn and loads of others… and he’s a prolific writer and the former senior editor at both Guitar Player and Premier Guitar magazines He’s also recorded and/or toured with Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Tracy Chapman, Marianne Faithfull, the Eels, Courtney Love, John Cale, DJ Shadow, Aimee Mann, Julieta Venegas, Oranj Symphonette, Jerry Harrison, Action Plus, Meat Beat Manifesto, Carrie Underwood, Tchad Blake, Flood, Tipsy, Kimya Dawson, Jill Sobule, Jane Weidlin and Belinda Carlisle, Flea, Les Claypool, O.A.R., and many other artists… On this call, Joe gets really deep and opens up about growing up in a family of educators and the internal struggles he dealt with as a result… His favorite interviews of the 2,000 interviews he’s done over the last 30 years… he also talks about being a diagnosed depressive… his biggest struggles and the most difficult thing he’s ever had to do. SECRET CINEMA on: - Facebook: www.facebook.com/secretcinema.gem - SoundCloud: @secretcinema 3Q to SECRET CINEMA: Q: Tell us about your selection please! 1 The Jimmy Castor Bunch – Its Just Begun: I sampled this song in Grooveyard - Watch me Now. A track I made in 1994. The original is a great way to start this podcast. 2 Public Enemy – You Gonna Get Yours: I took the bus, subway and tram to buy this album at a record store called Tinsel Town in Rotterdam. The first Public Enemy album. 3 Schoolly D – P.S.K. What Does It Mean: There was an ’88 hip hop documentary on Dutch television called ‘Big fun in the Big Town’ about early hip-hop. It ended with Schooly D performing with a DJ using only a 909 and a turntable. The 909 became the foundation for techno and is still widely used today. 4 Meat Beat Manifesto – Radio Babylon: When I heard Meat Beat Manifesto for the first time it blew my mind. Where are these sounds coming from? Who samples like this? It triggered me to do the same, sample sample sample. 5 Bob James – Take Me To The Mardi Gras: This was one of the tracks that inspired many hip hop artists. I also sampled it in Watch Me Now. Such a solid beat and break. I have this baby on vinyl. 6 Conrad Schnitzler – Zug: I heard it for the first time at a record store owner’s home. I was always hanging out in his store and we became friends. This was synthesis as I never heard before. I still love it! 7 Jean Michel Jarre – Oxygene II: You can't be into electronic music without having heard of Jean Michel Jarre. Out of this world compositions especially for that time. I listened to this in bed falling asleep many times. 8 Yello – I love You: The masters of sampling in pop music. All the greats were influenced by them. This track is off my favorite Yello album. I still play it sometimes. 9 Divine – Native Love: The first 12 inch I ever bought when I was still a child. My mom told me the woman on the cover was a transvestite. I couldn’t care less, I liked the music. This year I played it at an LGBT festival. The first record I ever bought 37 years ago. Amazing! 10 Amnesia – Ibiza: I was 16 years old at Parkzicht, Rotterdam when I heard this. That club started the gabber scene years later. This new beat sounded so fat, I knew I wanted to make music like this for the rest of my life. 11 Humanoid – Stakker Humanoid: When this came out I heard it more than 3 times a night and I couldn’t get enough of it. Those layers of acid sounds building and building. Relentless and impressive. 12 Lil' Louis – French Kiss: The ultimate house track. Nothing beats that rhythm of the chords and sexiness of the whole thing. I have the first pressing on vinyl and I will cherish it forever. Q: Within almost 3 decades inside the business you became a pioneer of electronic music. If you compare the past with the present: what changed most during the time? A: What changed things the most is the internet. Back in the day you would release on vinyl and had to invest to be able to release. Now anyone can start a label and start releasing any time. Social Media completely changed the game. No cool Instagram, no success as an artist. It is not only about music but how cool you are. The way you invest in your identity. You can basically buy your career. You still need talent though. So I guess moving forward is always better than looking back. Q: Which future projects are on the way? A: I have a new release out on Drumcode with Reinier Zonneveld called ‘Pain Thing’. Next release will be on my own label Gem Records. It’s the follow up to my Séance EP. Happy to get some of the new music I’m producing out there. We also have releases by Egbert and VNTM coming up. My radio show is also doing nicely. It’s called Gem FM and we are on Dutch national radio but also Soundcloud, Mixcloud iTunes. Guests include Pig&Dan who just joined the Gem Bookings agency, Bart Skils, Noir, Wehbba and many others. The future is looking bright and sparkly!

Sampling is a way to revive classic recordings to ensure that they remain timeless. The Noise Pop Sample Kitchen looks at how masters of the craft, like J-Dilla, DJ Shadow, and Meat Beat Manifesto, cleverly wove in samples to construct rich and layered compositions and established conversations within the music that spanned decades. Author and journalist Tamara Palmer joins in on the conversation. Track list: Baio - "Endless Rhythm" (Noise Pop Podcast theme song) Cut Chemist - "The Garden" DJ Shadow - "Mutual Slump" J Dilla - "Light My Fire" A Tribe Called Quest - "Find a Way" TOWA TEI - "Technova ft. Bebel Gilberto" Janet Jackson - "Got ’Til It’s Gone ft. Q-Tip & Joni Mitchell" Meat Beat Manifesto - "Radio Babylon" Bobby Byrd - "Hot Pants" Boney M. - "Rivers of Babylon" Prodigy - "Charity" The Future Sound of London - "Papua New Guinea" Sahara - "Stay Here"
The industrial music-heavy festival Cold Waves was started four years ago by Jason Novak (Acumen Nation, Czar, Acucrack, Cocksure) as a way for the community to rally after respected colleague Jamie Duffy took his life in June, 2012. Cold Waves continues to grow and gather momentum each year. This year's event (9/23-9/24 at Metro) is stacked, featuring performances from Meat Beat Manifesto, Clock DVA, The Cocks, Pig, 16Volt and more. The kickoff show on 9/22 at Double Door features nothing less than the 30th anniversary performance of the reunited Stabbing Westward. For this episode, Novak sits shotgun for a trip to the Fulton Market location of taqueria/sandwich shop Cemitas Puebla. To summarize: The tacos are poquito and the cemitas have a grande amount of bread. Over dinner, Novak talks about the evolution of Cold Waves, focusing on the memory of Jamie Duffy ("I think he would have been overjoyed at this"). He says the success of Cold Waves feels bittersweet ("You're constantly reminded that this shouldn't even be happening"). We also talk about Cold Waves kickoff band Stabbing Westward's ascent in the 90s. Novak says, "I remember (Acumen) being the junior version chasing after them." We chat about the 90s scene, industrial music, Wax Trax, Revolting Cocks, and Pop Will Eat Itself. Novak also talks about his charity, Darkest Before Dawn, which aims to provide support to Chicago's service industry and live entertainment workers, people whose schedules and isolation leave them "susceptible to depression, anxiety and suicide."

Influenced by 80s Industrial and 90s Electronica, the project's inception in 2001 contributed to a new underground scene growing in the New York City area. Several demos and self released EPs were sold and openly distributed throughout the internet before the the act landed it's first live show supporting Manufactura and Terrorfakt in the spring of 2004 at NYC's legendary Albion night. Since 2004, Cervello Elettronico has been experimenting with dance beats in front of audiences all over the world in new and interesting ways sharing the same stage with various musical acts as Meat Beat Manifesto, Esplendor Geometrico, Snog, Haujobb, Noisex, Terrorfakt, P.A.L. , and Combichrist.
