When it comes to making healthy choices, half the battle is motivation. That’s where the Whole Life Challenge comes into play! Today I’m here with Andy Petranek, who has been a health and fitness coach for over 25 years. He was a United States Marine, a sponsored athlete, and was featured as one of the original 10 CrossFit affiliates in the world. He’s also the co-founder of the Whole Life Challenge, a worldwide six-week online “game” that you play with friends and family to improve seven specific areas of health: nutrition, mobility, exercise, sleep, hydration, well being, and reflection. Also… I am about to jump into one of these if anybody wants to compete with me! 🙂 Episode Highlights on the Whole Life Challenge why Andrew started the Whole Life Challenge (and what he tried before it that didn’t work) how we can turn failures into valuable life lessons the healthy living challenge that’s sweeping the nation thinking for the long-term: how lasting change happens little by little, not all at once how to motivate yourself to start new habits (and keep them) getting connected to a support community what CrossFit has to do with it the keys to challenging yourself and making meaningful change and more! It’s easy to find someone willing to tell you “everything you need to know” to achieve your top athletic condition and performance these days. The internet has given anyone with an opinion a massive platform to launch their ideas from. But when one of the most learned experts in the field says that science may not even have the answers you need, where do you turn? Andy Galpin is a self-described mediocre athlete. This, he believes, is why he felt compelled to as much as possible about training for maximum performance. If what you’re gifted with physically doesn’t stack up, you have to make up for it somehow to stay competitive at the college level. The first member of his family to attend 4-year college, Andy earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, then a master’s degree in human movement sciences, and then a Ph.D. in human bioenergetics. Today, Dr. Galpin is a tenured professor and the director of the Center for Sport Performance at CSU Fullerton. He continues to research and publish and makes his lectures and information free and available to all online at AndyGalpin.com. “For people who live in the world and other people depend on, the goal of meditation is adaptation. It’s so that you thrive in your daily life.” “In a sense, in meditation, you are learning to hold your own self. Like, your soul, your scared human person, your aching heart, your exhausted body, your dreams, your love of the world. You’re learning to hold all that, with great tenderness, so that all the parts of you can come together and form an alliance, an internal team, because they all want to work together.” Did you realize that every time your breath cycles, you’ve experienced a tiny meditation? Inhaling, building tension, then exhaling and relaxing—this is the same pattern that occurs when one meditates, and meditation is as natural to the human body and mind as breathing. Reminder: I'm starting every podcast episode from now on by addressing one topic or answering one question that you bring to my attention via our new WLC Podcast email address: podcast@wholelifechallenge.com. Send along anything you think would be of value for me to see or read, or any thought or question you’d like me to talk about or answer. While I can't guarantee that your question or topic will get addressed on the podcast,  I do promise to read what you send! ------------ Today’s guest is Miki Agrawal is an energetic, passionate bundle of entrepreneurial and creative energy.  She was named 2015 Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the World Technology Awards and her Company THINX was named Time Magazine’s “25 Best New Inventions of 2015″. Miki was also the recipient of the TriBeCa Film Festival’s “Disruptive Innovation Award” and was named one of the “Top 20 Millenials on a Mission” by Forbes Magazine. My connection to her came from the a simple advertisement in my Facebook feed for a product called Tushy (www.tushy.me). It’s a simple and inexpensive add-on bidet for your toilet. I had absolutely no idea when I got it how it would change my post pooping life - as I talk about in the podcast - it’s like my sphincter can rest and recover from 50 years of post-pooping but wiping. I did the math - I’ve wiped over 125,000 times since birth… no wonder it can use some recovery. By the way, we talk very openly and candidly during the podcast about topics that most people keep private. If this makes you uncomfortable, I recommend you put your discomfort aside and listen anyway. Back to the Tushy… I was so stoked about mine, that I almost immediately ordered a second one… and I contacted their customer service, and asked to get introduced to their founder to have her on as a guest on the podcast! During the podcast, Miki talks about how she got where she is today… and what keeps her on track on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. She shares her favorite meditation technique and app, what she’s learned from years of working with a Life Coach, and how she keeps her creative juices flowing (she doesn’t have a shortage of ideas… ever).  I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
