My guest for my 100th episode is a human that I hold very close to my heart- a human who, if not for his very existence, my life would not be as it is today. I started following Andy Petranek during my first Whole Life Challenge, as he was the co-founder, and posted a lot of content I found motivational.By the next year, I knew with 100% certainty that meeting him was part of my path forward. He was far from me geographically and had no idea who I was, but it was like there was an other-worldly force pulling me in his direction. After we finally connected in early 2020, it began to reveal itself that the path I was walking, and the path Andy was walking, were destined to overlap in divine timing. We were both deepening our consciousness and our conversations began to reflect that.I have learned so much within those conversations. From the very first one, Andy awakened in me an aliveness that I hadn't felt in over a decade, a connection with myself so deep it is almost too sacred to mention.I think that's why, for the longest time, I couldn't bring myself to share him with the world on my podcast.Andy's my complete opposite and one of my dearest friends. He's a phenomenal Dad, a loving husband, and a source of love, joy, and compassion for so many. He has the memory of a goldfish and the best laugh on the planet. If you've met Andy, you know that there's a brilliant light that shines through him. When he holds space, his heart is as open as the sky. This podcast isn't an “interview” as much as it's a conversation between two very good friends about some very powerful stuff. I invite you to come and experience it. It's far out, just like we are. Thanks, Andy, for being on my 100th episode. I couldn't have gotten here without you. ❤️Find Andy at andypetranek.com, or on all socials: @andypetranek✨GTFO Notes: The Sober Series has moved to begin on Dec 14 at 7:00 p.m. It is not too late to register. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge talks to leadership coach https://andypetranek.com/ (Andy Petranek). Andy is a life coach who serves a variety of people. His channel isn't narrow; most of his clients have already achieved some level of success but realize what they're doing isn't getting them to their goals. He helps men and women find and achieve their life's true purpose.  Josh and Andy talk about how goals and life aspirations can change over time. Those who have achieved their surface level goals in life often realize over time that they want something more fulfilling. Josh shares that we should all give ourselves grace when we grow and change; if our desires or goals change, that's simply a part of life.  Andy explains that one of the biggest emotional obstacles his clients have to overcome is actually breaking from the habits of their current life. Every choice we make has residual effects that linger. The longer we stay in a habitual life cycle, the less we feel like we can deviate from it. Andy shares that breaking this cycle is the first step to changing your life; if you're unhappy or unfulfilled, don't continue on the way you have been just because changing things up is frightening and challenging. Getting stuck in these emotional grooves only ever holds us back. The level of honesty you have with yourself is very important, Andy says. Self-awareness and honesty with yourself is required when you make major life changes. When you feel ‘off' in life but can't put your finger on why, dive inward and deeply. The more honest you are with yourself, the closer you are to finding the answers to your feelings of lack of fulfillment. Andy describes this as ‘the pit'. We all have our own pits of unhappiness and pain, but many of us avoid exploring them within ourselves. Finding meaning in life requires surveying these internal pits for all they are and changing your life based on what you find. There is also something to be said for having a tenacious attitude and intense determination. You have to take a ‘failure is not an option' approach and be willing to accept and rise from blunders and fumbles. This is especially true in business, where many entrepreneurs do give up when they feel they aren't doing well enough in their business. When the stakes only affect you, the business owner, you're less likely to keep going even when you want to give up. Give yourself and your business the same due diligence you give to others; have tenacity and always be willing to get back up and fight for positive change in your life and in your company.  Want to learn more? We live in society that rewards having. Having a nice house, a fancy car, an important job title, a college degree, a fit body. And there's nothing wrong with any of those things. I have or have had all those things. But where we run into trouble is when we allow having these things to define who we are. In other words - when our internal value is derived from having these external things. We feel we need to have these things in order to be worthy – to be enough. So we often do – or act – from a place of unworthiness in order to get these things so that we – and others – will consider us to be worthy. But what if we flip that script? What if we start from a place of being worthy – of being enough, and THEN do the work for the things we desire from a place of self-compassion. What if you, as a spiritual entity, already are – and always have been – enough? My guest today is Andy Petranek. Andy has a fascinating story. He was a musical prodigy as a child, then went on to join the Marines, ran eco-challenges and eventually became a Red Bull sponsored adventure racing athlete, was a CrossFit Games athlete, opened and one of the most successful CrossFit gyms in the world, and co-founded the Whole Life Challenge. He was on top of the world – he had accomplished so much. But all of that came suddenly and unexpectantly crashing down when he became paralyzed by anxiety and severe panic attacks. What happened? How did this former Marine, CrossFit Athlete, sponsored adventure racer end up here? While that's a fascinating part of this story – it's not near as compelling as what came next.Join us this week as Andy shares his incredible story – his rise and his fall – and how he rebuilt and reimagined himself to become a professional life, leadership, and performance coach who helps people create greater levels of confidence, joy, fulfillment, and meaning in their lives. You can connect with Andy here:Website – https://andypetranek.com/Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/andypetranekInstagram - @andypetranekYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkUBgg0MjjwdqSZ49SzMmgPHFtSEnqHbdWe discussed the following during this episode:Whole Life Challenge Website – https://www.wholelifechallenge.com/Whole Life Challenge YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/WholeLifeChallengeWW/featuredCarolyn Freyer-Jones - https://carolynfreyerjones.com/

Has your memory of things past and the negativity that stuck with it failed you? Does it seem like nothing is making traction, and you are all the more stuck where you are? You may be allowing past failures to define you, and it has limited you to a certain extent to discourage you from taking the next step to reach your goal. Have you taken a look at what you do to yourself when things don't go well midstream when reaching for those goals?  How do you make yourself be pulled towards your vision and goal consistently? Andy Petranek is a professional life, leadership, and performance coach who's been helping people create greater levels of confidence, joy, fulfillment, and success in their lives for over 25 years.  He is a veteran of multiple overseas deployments, including Operation Desert Storm, Andy is a former United States Marine who served for four years as a combat engineer and small unit commander. Also, he is a Red Bull sponsored athlete in the sport of adventure racing, he captained teams and navigated courses all over the world in races like the Eco-Challenge and Raid Gauloises; in 2009 he became the oldest competitor to qualify for and compete in the CrossFit Games He was an early adopter of CrossFit starting one of the first and most successful affiliate gyms in the world in 2004, CrossFit Los Angeles.  He launched a successful consulting business and taught hundreds of other CrossFit Affiliate gym owners his gym management success strategies and systems. He also co-founded the Whole Life Challenge, a global, online health and wellness game that has had over 200,000 people participate over its 9-year history. He holds a master's degree in spiritual psychology. He has been the beneficiary of decades of personal self-exploration, discovery, and expansion through his work with coaches, healers, guides, and teachers. In this episode, Andy shares how to live your life free from your very own critic, forgiving and loving yourself, becoming more self-aware of who you are so you move past whatever is hindering you from getting success. He also talks about starting from a clean slate free from your judgments of the past, so you reach your highest potential and serve your client better on a deeper level. He doubles down the importance of the language you use as words have a substantial impact on projecting how things should happen. And it's best to avoid words that create pressure and anxiety. Make things free-flowing, making them become just a way of life. "If you could just separate from all the stuff that has gotten in your way -- the belief systems, the structures, the cultural ways of being you've learned from your family, from your community, from your friends, and step into the version of you that you want to step into, based on what you want to create as a possibility, that's powerful. Because you're operating from a blank slate." - Andy Petranek What you will learn from this episode: 03:15 - His takeaways from his Marine Corp stint 10:15 - Stepping into a new operating system without fully taking out one's uniqueness 13:46 - How it's important to create a vision of how you want to be and seeing it demonstrated in real life 16:10 - Allowing yourself the flexibility to change gears midstream 18:18 - What do you do to yourself when you don't hit the goal? 21:37 - The full acceptance of yourself not worrying about whether you falter or not 26:16 - Self-acceptance as a ticket to personal freedom 34:12 - What's with the words 'have to' and 'want to' 36:49 - The behavior of a 'have to' person 38:53 - Important thoughts on 'choices' 44:05 - How important is self-awareness in starting your journey to self-acceptance 46:20 - The goal is not to get rid of your weaknesses but to see it, accept, and to master it 49:46 - Connecting with your clients on a much deeper level 56:02 - What happens when you operate in guilt, shame, and scarcity Connect with Andy Petranek: andypetranek.com Facebook Instagram Connect with Gavin McHale: maverickcoachingacademy.ca LinkedIn Instagram

We're taking a bit of a different but still very FUN route today with our guest, Andy Petranek! While Andy might not have the stereotypical story we usually hear on this show (that is, one of severe, long-term health issues), he IS someone that has mastered two essential pieces of one's healing journey: Mindset and habits.  The reason this is important is because if you want ABNORMAL results (like the ones our clients or guests on the podcast get), then you're going to need to take abnormal action. The first step in changing our actions is ALWAYS getting our mind right, and in this episode, Andy will show you how to do just that! A little about Andy: He holds a master's degree in spiritual psychology and has been the beneficiary of decades of personal self-exploration, discovery, and expansion through his work with coaches, healers, guides, and teachers. A veteran of multiple overseas deployments including Operation Desert Storm, Andy is a former United States Marine who served for four years as a combat engineer and small unit commander. A Red Bull sponsored athlete in the sport of adventure racing, he captained teams and navigated courses all over the world in races like the Eco Challenge and Raid Gauloises; in 2009 he became the oldest competitor to qualify for and compete in the CrossFit Games. Where Andy is at now: Andy Petranek is a professional life, leadership, and performance coach who's been helping people create greater levels of confidence, joy, fulfillment, and success in their lives for over 25 years. It was an absolute blast having him on, and if nothing else, we believe just about anyone would thoroughly enjoy this interview!  You can find out more about Andy by going to https://andypetranek.com/. His leadership experience as a Marine equipped him with the skills that brought him success as one of the first CrossFit affiliate owners, and his focus on improving the lives of the “normal” people in his community led him to develop the Whole Life Challenge. To this day, his mission is to “help clients stay committed to making better choices each day, outside of the gym, where it really matters, in their everyday lives.”Andy joins me for a chat about the apps that improve our lives, unusual sleeping practices, the reason a lack of motivation is keeping people stuck in unhealthy patterns, and the benefits of isometric movement.
