fWotD Episode 3349: Destiny's Child Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 6 July 2026, is Destiny's Child.Destiny's Child was an American girl group formed in Houston, Texas, in 1990. Its final lineup comprised Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. Known for their vocal harmonies, stage performances, and themes of female empowerment, Destiny's Child is regarded as one of the most influential girl groups in popular music. Integral to the girl group resurgence of the 1990s, they are credited with helping shape the sound of contemporary R&B and contributing to the emergence of rap-singing.The group began their musical career as Girl's Tyme. After years of limited success, the original quartet—Beyoncé, Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett—were signed to Columbia Records in 1996 as Destiny's Child, gaining recognition with the single "No, No, No". They then released their best-selling second album, The Writing's on the Wall (1999), which spawned the US Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Despite critical and commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict and legal turmoil, as Roberson and Luckett attempted to split from the group's manager, Mathew Knowles, due to his favoritism of his daughter Beyoncé and Rowland, who had lived with the family in her youth. In early 2000, both Roberson and Luckett were replaced by Williams and Farrah Franklin; Franklin quit after a few months, leaving the group as a trio. The group's third album, Survivor (2001), drew on the internal conflicts and lineup changes, yielding the US number-one singles "Independent Women" and "Bootylicious". After releasing the Christmas album 8 Days of Christmas (2001), Destiny's Child announced a hiatus so that each member could pursue a solo career. They reunited to release their fifth and final album, Destiny Fulfilled (2004), which produced the US top-three singles "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier".Since the group officially disbanded in 2006, Beyoncé, Rowland, and Williams have reunited several times, including at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show, the 2018 Coachella festival, and the final show of the Cowboy Carter Tour (2025). Destiny's Child is one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, with estimated sales of over 60 million records. The group received many accolades, including three Grammy Awards, eleven Billboard Music Awards, five American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Billboard named the final lineup of Destiny's Child one of the greatest musical trios of all time. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:11 UTC on Monday, 6 July 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Destiny's Child on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Joanna.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Grammy® Honoree, Hollywood Walk of FameLet's Celebrate Rock & Roll Hall of Fame IHonoree Robert " Kool" Bell & Kool & The Gang! Robert's NEW Brand is.  La Kool. lKool had always envisioned having his own brand out of Europe. For many years, he sought out Grand Cru Vineyards from owners that have been selling for generations and decided to work with Paul Berthelot, a Multi-Vintage Grand Cru Producer since 1884. Kool & the Gang, officially launched in 1969, after performing for five years under various band titles, has influenced the music of three generations and the band has become true recording industry legends. Thanks to iconic songs like Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, they've earned two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, 25 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albumsIn 1969, Kool & the Gang released their self-titled debut album/ It was the introduction to a theme, music is the message, that Kool & the Gang stands by today. The instrumental album was an expression of their deep love of music. It was also an introduction to their signature sound and the fierce horn arrangements created by Khalis, Dee Tee, and Spike. Their debut album spawned their first Billboard R&B charted single Kool & the Gang and later Let the Music Take Your Mind. In 1970, their audacious sophomore set Live at the Sex Machine peaked at #6 on Billboard's R&B chart and yielded three hit singles: Funky Man, Who's Gonna Take the Weight, and I Want to Take You Higher. Next came The Best Of Kool & the Gang Featuring The Penguin, Kool & the Gang Live at PJ'S, Music Is The Message, and Good Times, all of which helped solidify a sound that wowed not only fans but such contemporaries as James Brown and Nina Simone.e 80's would see them dominate the mainstream, starting with the double platinum-selling album Celebrate (driven by the international monster hit Celebration, which spent six weeks atop the R&B chart and became a #1 Pop single). Celebration, which played as the American hostages returned from Iran, remains de rigueur at joyous occasions worldwide. The smashes Get Down On It, Take My Heart, Let's Go Dancing, Joanna, Tonight, Misled, the #1 R&B, #2 Pop giant Cherish and the #1 R&B anthem Fresh (these last three from the multi- platinum LP Emergency) solidified the group's international stardom. Kool & the Gang landed global commercial endorsements, supported countless charitable causes and were the only American group to participate in Band Aid's 1984 Do They Know It's Christmas project for famine victims in Africa. With the explosion of hip-hop in the 90's, Kool & the Gang's incredible catalog of grooves made them DJ favorites. They were second only to R&B icon James Brown as sources of rap music samples. Today, the group enjoys global fame and recognition and a following that spans generations due in part to the groups widely sampled catalogue.© 2026 Building Abundant Success!!2026 All Rights ReservedJoin Me on ~ iHeart Media @ https://tinyurl.com/iHeartBASSpot Me on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/yxuy23baAmazon Music ~ https://tinyurl.com/AmzBASAudacy:  https://tinyurl.com/BASAud

Send in your music story! The 2000s didn't just have hits, they had albums that rewired your brain. We're going year by year through the records that defined the decade, arguing over what actually deserves the crown and admitting which ones still live rent-free in our heads. If you grew up on CD binders, iPod clicks, and music that felt like a personality, this one is for you. We also hit the biggest pop culture headlines of the week with an American Music Awards recap, including Taylor Swift's no-show and the online spiral that followed, plus BTS taking home major wins and the bigger question of what a “comeback” even means anymore. It turns into the kind of conversation we all have with friends: half music history, half internet reality check, and fully opinionated. Then we slow it down with our Song of the Week, “Carry You Home” by Alex Warren, and talk about why certain love songs trigger a very specific kind of emotional gut punch. After that, Lindsay's Music Meme Breakdown brings the chaos, with perfectly timed clips that somehow turn into real commentary on bands, voices, and the way we experience music now. If you're into 2000s music nostalgia, album deep dives, awards show reactions, and funny real-talk tangents, subscribe, share this with a friend who still argues about the best year in music, and leave us a review so more people can find the show. Please check out our merch page! : https://hookandbridgepodmerch.printful.me/ Become part of our community! : https://www.patreon.com/cw/TheHookandBridgePodcastPremiumSupport the showPlease give us a quick rate and review. She's a Grammy-nominated, American Music Award-winning vocal powerhouse who has conquered the Top 20 on the Billboard Top 100 chart 17 times landing 7 times in the Top 10.Taylor's unbelievable career ascent has taken her from sold-out rock concerts to starring on Broadway in Aida to the semi-finals of the Masked Singer. In 2022, an unexpected diagnosis of colon cancer did little to slow her down and made her an advocate for promoting early detection and regular cancer screenings. One beloved reality TV institution is being "rested" and we're debating whether that's a sign of the times — or just the cost of keeping audiences hooked on drama.Plus, the AMAs red carpet delivered the fashion chaos we've been starving for, and one particular look has us absolutely obsessed (hint: hair is doing a lot of heavy lifting). And, a completely made-up celebrity feud spiralled into the week's biggest tabloid saga, and we're furious about how easily people bought it as fact. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for April 18, 2026 is: hiatus • hye-AY-tus • noun In general contexts, hiatus usually refers to a period of time when something, such as an activity or program, is suspended. In biology, hiatus describes a gap or passage in an anatomical part or organ, and in linguistics, it refers to the occurrence of two vowel sounds without pause or intervening consonantal sound. // The actor, who's been on hiatus for several years, will be starring in a new film. See the entry > Examples: “Following its return in 2025 after a nearly three-year hiatus, the 52nd American Music Awards are heading back to Las Vegas to be broadcast live from a new venue, the MGM Grand Garden Arena.” — Steven J. Horowitz, Variety, 10 Mar. 2026 Did you know? This brief hiatus in your day is brought to you by, well, hiatus. While the word now most often refers to a temporary pause, hiatus originally referred to a physical opening in something, such as the mouth of a cave, or, as the 18th century British novelist Laurence Sterne would have it, a sartorial gap: in the wildly experimental novel Tristram Shandy, Sterne wrote of “the hiatus in Phutatorius's breeches.” Hiatus comes from the Latin verb hiare, meaning “to yawn,” which makes it a distant relation of both yawn and chasm. And that's all we have for now—you may resume your regular activities.
