Welcome to Fall 2021. This semester 108 North is looking at the story of Jesus to learn who He really is. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week Jesus is confronted by the Pharisees and drawn into a trap, that ends differently than anyone expected. 2 At dawn he went to the temple again, and all the people were coming to him. He sat down and began to teach them.3 Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, making her stand in the center. 4 “Teacher,” they said to him, “this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. 5 In the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say? ” 6 They asked this to trap him, in order that they might have evidence to accuse him.Jesus stooped down and started writing on the ground with his finger. 7 When they persisted in questioning him, he stood up and said to them,“The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Then he stooped down again and continued writing on the ground. 9 When they heard this, they left one by one, starting with the older men. Only he was left, with the woman in the center. 10 When Jesus stood up, he said to her,“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? ”11 “No one, Lord,” she answered.“Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus.“Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”] -- John 8:2-11 (CSB) 108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry. Welcome to Fall 2021. This semester 108 North is looking at the story of Jesus to learn who He really is. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week Jesus has a crowd chase him down looking for more food. 22 The next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea saw there had been only one boat. They also saw that Jesus had not boarded the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone off alone. 23 Some boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus. 25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you get here? ” 26 Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled. 27 Don't work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set his seal of approval on him.” 28 “What can we do to perform the works of God? ” they asked.29 Jesus replied, “This is the work of God — that you believe in the one he has sent.” 30 “What sign, then, are you going to do so that we may see and believe you? ” they asked. “What are you going to perform? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.” -- John 6:22-31 (CSB)108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week Jesus meets a man who has been disabled for years and changes his life, if he wants to be healed. 1 After this, a Jewish festival took place, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.2 By the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there is a pool, called Bethesda in Aramaic, which has five colonnades. 3 Within these lay a large number of the disabled — blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and realized he had already been there a long time, he said to him,“Do you want to get well? ” 7 “Sir,” the disabled man answered, “I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I'm coming, someone goes down ahead of me.” 8 “Get up,” Jesus told him,“pick up your mat and walk.” 9 Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat, and started to walk. -- John 5:1-8(CSB)108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week Jesus stops while traveling for a drink of water and meets a women who's life is changed forever. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water.“Give me a drink,” Jesus said to her, 8 because his disciples had gone into town to buy food.9 “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman? ” she asked him. For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,' you would ask him, and he would give you living water.”11 “Sir,” said the woman, “you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do you get this ‘living water'? 12 You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock.”13 Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. 14 But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.”15 “Sir,” the woman said to him, “give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and come here to draw water.”-- John 4:7-36 (CSB)If you are in the Boro come hang out with us downtown at 108 North Main Street. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week we dive into the conversations between the Pharisee Nicodemus and Jesus about qualifications. There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.2 This man came to him at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God, for no one could perform these signs you do unless God were with him.”3 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”4 “How can anyone be born when he is old? ” Nicodemus asked him. “Can he enter his mother's womb a second time and be born? ”5 Jesus answered, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be amazed that I told you that you must be born again. 8 The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear its sound, but you don't know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”9 “How can these things be? ” asked Nicodemus. -- John 3:1-9 (CSB)If you are in the Boro come hang out with us downtown at 108 North Main Street. He also poured out the money changers' coins and overturned the tables. 16 He told those who were selling doves,“Get these things out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a marketplace! ”17 And his disciples remembered that it is written: Zeal for your house will consume me. -- John 2:13-51 (CSB)108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week we look at Jesus first words in the gospel of John and his invitation to Come and See. 35 The next day, John was standing with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God! ”37 The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus. 38 When Jesus turned and noticed them following him, he asked them,“What are you looking for? ”They said to him, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying? ”39 “Come and you'll see,” he replied. So they went and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about four in the afternoon. 40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard John and followed him. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated “the Christ”), 42 and he brought Simon to Jesus. When Jesus saw him, he said, “You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which is translated “Peter” ). -- John 1:29-42 (CSB)108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry. Every week we will be examining interactions and conversations Jesus has in the Gospel of John learning along the way who Jesus is according to scripture. This week we dive in talking about Jesus being full of Grace and Truth. "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning him and exclaimed, “This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me.' ”) 16 Indeed, we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness, 17 for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father's side —he has revealed him." -- John 1:14-18 (CSB)108 North | FBC Statesboro College Ministry.
