One True Podcast does its part to help your summer reading lists by covering a book that is not by Hemingway, but is Hemingway-relevant: Henri Barbusse's Under Fire, the 1916 World War I novel that Frederic Henry and Count Greffi name-drop so provocatively in between sips of icy cold champagne and smoothly fluent billiards shots. This episode covers the first nine chapters of Under Fire, where we discuss why Hemingway damned this novel with such faint praise in his Men at War anthology, how the episodic structure might remind readers of a contemporary work like The Things They Carried, the absence of instantly recognizable characters, and – controversially – whether there's more rain in this novel or in A Farewell to Arms. One True Podcast is never one to shy away from the divisive topics. We hope you'll join us in this summer's long-overdue read of Under Fire. We are using the Penguin Classics edition with an Introduction written by future One True Podcast guest, Professor Jay Winter.

Genesis Church - Sermons

The events of the first Good Friday and Easter are central for the entire Christian faith. We believe the One True and Living God accomplished something cosmic and glorious in the death and resurrection of a single human being named Jesus. While thousands died on cruel Roman crosses in the ancient world, Jesus’ death is unique as it was predicted hundreds of years before the events of that holy weekend some 2000 years ago. Furthermore, the story ends unlike no other, with the executed man walking out of His grave a few days later. But, you may ask, what does this have to do with me in 2026? Jesus’ final word on the cross gives us the beautiful and life changing answer. One of Jesus’ closest friends, a man named John, wrote an amazing book explaining Jesus’ life, identity, death, and resurrection. John tells us that the Roman soldiers gave Jesus a quick drink of sour wine, and after getting some liquid in His mouth, Jesus pushed up on the nails in His feet one last time and cried out, “It is finished!” At first glance, it may seem like a statement of defeat and hopelessness. Actually though, this statement, which is a single word in the original Greek text, is an unbelievable declaration of victory; providing hope for every human being and meeting our deepest needs and longings. Today we will look at this single word and share the implications of Jesus’ final word from the cross for you and me.

What do Buddhism, Islam, atheism, and Christianity all have in common? They're all trying to answer the same question — they're just giving very different this message, Ps Morgan takes you on a personal journey through years of serious spiritual searching — through addiction, philosophy, comparative religion, and finally, a reckoning he couldn't argue around. What he discovered wasn't a better theology. It was a diagnosis: he was living like an someone who's seeking, or one who has been studying, this is an honest, evidence-based look at what each path actually offers — and what it costs. From the logic of why "all roads lead to God" can't actually be true, to ancient Chinese pictographs that predate Genesis, to the one demand Christianity makes that every wounded person will resist — this message is for anyone who has ever knocked on the wrong doors looking for something real.

The teaching strongly warns that any message which adds to or alters the biblical gospel is a false gospel and places both teachers and hearers under God's curse, grounding this warning in Galatians 1:8–9, where even angels are condemned for preaching “another gospel.” The speaker contrasts true salvation by grace through faith with systems that add legalism, sacraments, works, nationalism without evangelism, or cultural accommodation, repeatedly returning to the biblical pattern of repentance and faith seen in the first evangelistic sermon in Acts 2:37–40, where Peter commands people to repent and be saved from a corrupt generation. He affirms God's prophetic purposes for Israel while insisting the gospel must never be withheld, referencing Jesus' words about Jerusalem in Luke 21:24, the necessity of Israel's restoration in Zechariah 12, and the Messiah revealed in Isaiah 40 as the prelude to the suffering Servant of Isaiah 52–53. Salvation is presented as universally offered yet personally received, supported by 1 Timothy 2:4 and God's stated desire that the wicked turn and live in Ezekiel 18:23, while rejecting distortions that deny substitutionary atonement or repentance. The message concludes by reaffirming that grace is free but costly, that Christ's work was finished at the cross, and that the church must preach repentance, substitutionary atonement, and new life without dilution or compromise, remaining faithful to the apostolic gospel alone. You can connect with Moriel in more locations than just YouTube! From sea turtles losing their way to kids building sandcastles that will wash away, Chris explores how purpose beats planning, why financial “preparation” matters more than rigid “plans,” and why joy, meaning, and relationships can't be postponed for some mythical retirement finish line.

In this second session on “How Can There Be One True Religion?” Pastor Ron Kool focuses on how Christians should respond when someone they love says, “I don't believe what you believe anymore.” Instead of rushing into arguments, he urges us to pray first, pick a wise time and place, and be clear on our goals—whether that's inviting them to rethink, clarifying our beliefs, or simply learning how to live together in disagreement. He encourages Christians to admit hard truths: that believers have often been arrogant and intolerant, that we can't offer airtight proof for our faith, and that as humans we must humbly admit, “I could be wrong,” even while fully believing the gospel.Pastor Ron Kool distinguishes dialogue (listening and understanding) from debate (trying to persuade) and says we should usually start with patient listening, fair questions, and honest representation of the other person's view. When it's time to give reasons, he shows how many objections to exclusivism are inconsistent and how Christianity's message of grace, humility, and a Savior who died for his enemies actually pushes believers toward love, not arrogance, as we point others to Jesus.Support the show

This week, we will be studying Genesis 29:14b-35 under the theme “One True Love.” We see here how Jacob, Rachel, and Leah quickly turn romance into a functional savior, and the heartache this causes. We'll see how God steps into that ache, not by shaming our desire for love, but by giving us a better Bridegroom in Jesus.Series Summary: Our fall worship series will lead us through the Book of Genesis, arguably the most profound, insightful text in human history. Over this series, we'll uncover how the narratives of Genesis reveal God's design for creation, humanity, relationships, and purpose. We'll explore truths that continue to shape our lives today, from the Garden of Eden to the promise of redemption.Add St. Marcus as your church on the Church Center App!Fill out our online connection cardHow can we pray for you? Creflo Dollar Ministries Audio Podcast

A proper interpretation of the Bible is essential if we as believers are to be effective in sharing the Gospel of Grace. When Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission, He meant it in a broader sense of simply traveling to a physical location to spread the Word we have been given; He meant incorporating it into everything we do as part of our everyday lives. Reading the New Testament requires that we read it through the lens of the finished works of Jesus Christ; our faith should be based on the same thing. Jesus is what God believes about us; therefore, agreeing with Him elevates us from operating from faith in God to the faith of God, Himself.
