Patrick Madrid opens up after the heart-shattering Texas floods that took the lives of many: including two young Catholic girls found holding their Rosaries. This isn’t a tidy theology talk; it’s a gut-wrenching, faith-clinging, grief-soaked conversation about why God allows suffering, and how we hold on when life falls apart. The Caller: Cecile from Bryan, Texas Cecile calls in, her heart cracked wide open. Her nephew just lost his best friend, his wife, and their two children. His question is one we all ask eventually: “How could God let this happen?” Patrick doesn’t pretend to have the magic answer. In fact, his first move is humility: “There is no answer that will make this okay. Not now.” But what he does offer is one of the most compassionate and theological walk-throughs of the “Problem of Evil” you’ll ever hear in Catholic media. Key Takeaways: God Is Not the Author of Evil Evil, whether moral (caused by free will choices) or natural (like floods, cancer, etc.), was never part of God’s original design. These came through the Fall: a ripple effect from the sin of Adam and Eve that distorted creation itself. Natural Disasters Are Part of a Broken World Nature itself is “off” because of sin. But this isn’t a cosmic punishment; it's a sign that we’re living in a world still groaning for redemption (Romans 8:22). God Doesn’t Just “Allow” Suffering... He Entered Into It The ultimate answer to suffering isn’t a what, it’s a who: Jesus on the Cross. God didn’t stay distant. He became a man and suffered with us, for us. A Father’s Heart Patrick shares a personal story about his toddler son, Tim, who was bleeding from a head wound. At the ER, his son cried out: “Daddy, help me!” Patrick could’ve stopped it... but didn’t, because letting the doctor stitch the wound was what would ultimately heal him. The parallel: God the Father sees us screaming in pain... and He still lets it happen; it's not because He’s indifferent, but it's because He knows the healing that’s coming later. Cecile’s Beautiful Insight: She echoes it all with such tender faith: “God is there. Just like you were with your son, Patrick. God is there, with us in it... holding us.” Yes. Amen. The Final Word: Maybe, just maybe... we’ll be like little Tim someday, looking back and finally understanding. Until then, we weep, we pray, and we cling to this promise: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4 Take time today to pray for those affected in Texas. And if you’re struggling with your own grief, go ahead and be honest with God. Cry out. Ask why. He can take it, and He is with you. Jesus, man of sorrows, be near to those who mourn. Hold them. Heal them. And help us all to trust You, even in the dark.

This week, we’re tackling one of the most important identity questions in the Christian sobriety space: Do we really need to call ourselves “alcoholics”? In this heartfelt and truth-packed episode, we dive into why we believe that label doesn’t line up with our identity in Christ. We reflect on our own stories of what happened when we stopped letting shame define us. We explore what Scripture says about who we are in Jesus, why carrying labels from our past may keep us stuck, and how embracing our identity as beloved daughters of God opens the door to real transformation. We also get honest about generational patterns, the role of neuroplasticity in changing our behaviors, and the power of renewing our minds with God’s Word. This conversation is an invitation to get curious, be intentional, and replace the world’s labels with God’s truth. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: Why we don’t use the labels “alcoholic” or “addict” How identity in Christ changes everything The difference between secular freedom and freedom in Jesus The impact of generational narratives on our self-identity How neuroplasticity and biblical truth work together in our healing Why it matters what we speak over ourselves Resources Mentioned:

We made it to the end! I LOVE GOD! I love everything about him because he is just that good. I hope you feel the same and if you don't...by the end of this I hope to convince you to feel that way! Nevertheless, even though I feel this way, I do so in spite of God having NOT met all of my expectations. Guess what? God not meeting all my expectations has been the BEST THING EVER! In his lesson we will explore the depth of what it means for God to not meet all of our expectations. Our text will be Luke 7:17-26. Let's finish strong in Jesus!
This one's personal. I've been asked how I healed from childhood trauma and the truth is, I'm still healing. I haven't “arrived,” and maybe I never fully will this side of Heaven. But what I've learned is this: God doesn't wait for us to be whole to walk with us. He meets us in the wound. In this episode, I open up about what it looks like to follow Jesus while still bleeding. I talk about the thorn in my side, how God's word taught me to lament, and the power of being honest with God when life still hurts. If you've ever felt like you had to be “over it” to be used by God, I pray this reminds you: you don't have to be healed to be held. God sees you, He's with you, and He will get the glory, even through your thorn.instagram.com/growingthrough.pod

When you're a person of faith—someone who honored your vows before God—going through a divorce can shake you to your core. It's not just the loss of a marriage; it's the lingering question many struggle with silently: “Does God hate me because I'm divorced?”Scripture has often been misquoted or misinterpreted in ways that leave people feeling condemned, ashamed, and distanced from God—especially in Christian communities that emphasize marriage as the ultimate goal.In today's episode, I'm joined by Dr. Dharius Daniels for a real, grounded conversation about what the Bible actually says about divorce—and what it doesn't. We explore how scripture is often interpreted in ways that leave people feeling condemned, how to embrace God's forgiveness and release the weight of guilt, why singleness is not a punishment but a purposeful season, and how to trust God with what's still possible—even after divorce.Follow Dr. Dharius Daniels on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dhariusdanielsFollow Dr. Daniels on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dharius.danielsDr. Daniels Website: https://dhariusdaniels.com/To learn more about Change Church: https://www.lifechange.org/**INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH ME 1:1 THIS SUMMER? What if God doesn't want to erase your past… but redeem it? In this first episode of our June series, Identity in Christ, I'm diving into 2 Corinthians 5:17—“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation.” But what does that actually mean for your everyday life? And what does it reveal about God's heart? We're unpacking why your past doesn't disqualify you, how God meets you in the darkest places, and why real transformation isn't about pretending you've never messed up—it's about knowing who's holding your story now. If this resonates with you, After God's Heart, my daily devotional podcast on Patreon, is where we go even deeper into verses just like this—every single day. It's not about more information; it's about learning how to walk with God in real time and see His heart in every word of Scripture. Matthew 6:33 calls us to build our lives around the rule and reign of God—not merely prioritizing Him among many tasks, but centering everything on His kingdom and righteousness. Jesus isn't asking for balance; He's demanding total alignment. When God becomes the center, every other area—marriage, family, purpose—finds its proper place. Without Him at the center, even good things lose their eternal impact.

When God Doesn't Heal You Instantly… by Faith Promise Church
Homily given at St. Thomas à Becket on the Solemnity of the Ascension (June 1, 2025).
In The Next Right Steps sermon series, Pastor Levi Matteson talks about how Samuel didn't chase greatness; he walked in faithfulness, including: 1. If you're not dead, you're not done, 2. Obedience Often Comes Before Clarity, 3. God Doesn't Choose Based on Appearance, and 4. Faithfulness in the Field Still Matters. The scripture text is from 1 Samuel 16:1-13. This podcast episode is a Sunday message from Evangel Community Church, Houghton, Michigan, June 2, 2025.
Garth Heckman The David Alliance TDAgiantSlayer@Gmail.com Years and years of bodybuilding and now look at you? What happened… more importantly how fast did it happen? No matter how healthy you are… and BTW Bodybuilders are some of the most unhealthy people in the world. What they eat in nutrition is destroyed by the amount of drugs they put in their system…. Don't get me wrong, you can do steroids and other enhancers and still maintain a safe healthy physique if you are willing to cycle on and off with enough time in between - but most don't. Anyway…. You can be in the best health possible… eat, exercise, drink plenty of water, take supplements, cardio etc… and in only 2 short months lose it all and be extremely unhealthy… I have seen it happen… You have probably seen it happen. Have you ever heard the saying… “what have you done for me lately” We usually use it in a negative way… like Man I have done so much for that guy the past 10 years… but it does not matter, its always what have you done for me lately…. BUT it is actually a biblical concept. Your past will not make up for your present. A good beginning is not a guarantee of good ending. Ez. 18:23, 24 23 “Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live. 24 However, if righteous people turn from their righteous behavior and start doing sinful things and act like other sinners, should they be allowed to live? No, of course not! All their righteous acts will be forgotten, and they will die for their sins. You do have a personal responsibility! Your past will not make up for your present. Its not about Loyalty or brownie points… or God owing you… it is about Holiness. First lets get one thing straight… God only owes us one thing… judgement and death for being a sinner. We only get what we get because of what God did, not because of what we did. Hebrews 6:4-6 and 10:26-27 speak of what have you done for me lately… My point today is this… We see the weakened and sinful in scripture turning around from the disciples to the apostle Paul… they all had diverse sinful backgrounds… but were all marked by getting older and bolder and not older and colder. What was their prescription for such a faith as this? Very simple, in fact John G Lake spoke of it often. 4 things: Constantly prayed Read Gods word Shared the gospel Prayed in tongues and prophesied over their own lives. Listen I know we all are thankful for Gods grace and his mercy… I know I need it. But I don't want to casually assume a life based on that for entrance into heaven. I want to walk in Gods power over sin and evil. I want his grace to empower my life so that I can live above sin. 2 Cor. 12:9 God tells Paul his grace is sufficient to overcome his weakness and his suffering. That phrase there actually means more than enough. And we often forget that last sentence in that verse…. - Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. What have I done today for Christ? I have rested in his power over my weakness.
Even King David had moments when he couldn't hear from God even though he was asking, begging God to speak! If you are seeking God and not hearing God, you are in good company. All is not lost.

Are you actually repenting… or just feeling bad? In this episode of The Disciples Journal, I'm unpacking what true repentance really means—and why it's more than just saying “I'm sorry.” We're breaking down the difference between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow, what it means to “make room” for God in your life, and why repentance is ultimately about relationship, not religion. From personal stories to powerful Scripture (Romans 2:4, Acts 26, 2 Corinthians 7:10), this episode challenges you to stop settling for half-hearted faith and start living in the fullness of life that Jesus offers. Repentance is the response the gospel demands. And it's not out of guilt—it's a response to His kindness. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Tashara Angelle - May 25, 2025 This Eastertide season sermon explores how God consistently works in ways that defy human expectations and conventional wisdom. Through the stories of the man at the pool of Bethesda and Paul's unexpected encounter with Lydia in Macedonia, the message challenges our tendency to exhaust ourselves trying to "fix" everything through our own efforts. The sermon addresses the modern struggle of feeling overwhelmed by personal and global problems, our impulse to become "fixers" who must control every outcome, and the despair that follows when our efforts fall short. Rather than promoting inaction, it calls listeners to find rest and peace in Jesus as the ultimate source of salvation—not in our own abilities, political solutions, or self-help strategies. The central message is one of liberation: God always has a "back door," a creative workaround that doesn't require what we think He needs. Just as Jesus didn't need the pool to heal, and God didn't need a man to spread the gospel in Macedonia, He doesn't need our frantic efforts to accomplish His purposes. The sermon concludes with an invitation to trust Jesus and lay down our expectations of how problems should be solved. Ever felt like you were called… but stuck in a season of “not yet”? You’re not alone. Whether it’s King David or King Jesus, even God’s greatest waited between their anointing and appointing. But take heart—your “in-between” is never wasted. Key Takeaways You’re Sealed and Claimed – God put His Spirit in you as a guarantee of what’s to come (2 Cor 1:21-22). Anointed ≠ Immediately Appointed – David waited decades; Jesus waited years. Waiting doesn’t mean forgotten. God Doesn’t Rush – He moves in perfect timing (Isaiah 60:22). You’re not behind schedule—you’re being prepared. Your Wait Has a Purpose – David gathered strength and support; Jesus discipled and taught. Your delay is part of your development. Today we're tackling a topic that's kept too many women trapped in painful marriages: divorce. If you've ever been told "God hates divorce" or made to feel like leaving your abusive husband is somehow worse than what he's doing to you, this episode is specifically for you. We'll dig into some fascinating research by Dr. Valerie Hobbs on how conservative Christian sermons frame divorce - and let me tell you, what's being preached often doesn't match reality.
