Parham Parastaran is the founder of Left Lane Auto, an automotive service company operating 40 brands across 90 locations in 20 states. His career began in his family's Car-X shop while he attended the University of Illinois. He later expanded the business into a 17-location portfolio that included independent tire stores. After selling the company he had built over 24 years, Parastaran watched nearly every employee leave within a year. That experience shaped his approach to employee retention after acquisition: preserve the local identity, protect established working arrangements, and earn the team's support before introducing change. In this episode…Multi-location operators buy shops for their revenue, reputation, and experienced teams. The first push toward standardization often puts those assets at risk. Pay changes alter household income. Schedule changes disrupt family routines. A fast rebrand removes a familiar name that employees and customers already trust. Each additional location increases the pressure to impose a single operating model. That is the central challenge behind employee retention after acquisition. Left Lane Auto protects continuity while its leaders learn how each shop works. Operational changes begin after the local team understands the reason and supports the direction.Parastaran also explains how this philosophy shapes conversations with sellers. Owners receive flexibility in how they exit, remain involved, or retain a financial interest. The business follows strong shops and structures the transition around what keeps each operation stable. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: [01:03] Parham Parastaran and Left Lane Auto[01:37] Building an automotive career from one family shop[07:40] Preserving local businesses after an acquisition[13:16] Lessons from losing a long-standing team[21:19] Balancing tire sales with mechanical service[23:27] Evaluating shops and speaking with sellers[26:10] Structuring flexible transitions for former owners[27:38] Expanding deal options through Bertram CapitalResources mentioned in this episode:Parham Parastaran on LinkedInLeft Lane Auto LLC WebsiteTread PartnersGain Traction Podcast on YouTubeGain Traction Podcast WebsiteMike Edge on LinkedInQuotable Moments:“It's the blessing of having nothing, so you have no choice.”“You know, you're going to go backwards when you lose people.”“The things that I learned from the failures was that I don't ever want to put ourselves in a cash position where we're going back.”“We'll follow good stores.”“We'll find a way to say yes.”Action Steps:Build an employee retention checklist after an acquisition that records each person's pay plan, regular schedule, tenure, and responsibilities before the handoff.Pause proposed compensation and scheduling changes until their effects on employees' lives and store performance are documented.Meet with the store manager and longest-tenured employees to identify the routines, relationships, and local practices customers depend on.Keep the acquired shop's local name while reviewing its customer recognition and community value with the existing team.Write the former owner's post-sale role, decision authority, and exit timeline into the transition plan before announcing the acquisition.

Diagnosed narcissist Lee Hammock explains why narcissistic, toxic, or abusive partners rarely change, even when they promise therapy, growth, or a fresh start. I break down front-loading and love bombing, why rewarded behavior never stops, and why hoping they'll improve keeps survivors stuck in narcissistic paralysis. I also share my own rock-bottom story and explains why change only happens when someone is internally motivated, not for another person. This video is meant to empower survivors to release false hope and focus on their own healing journey. In this episode of Pearls of Wisdom, I explore our desire for other people to change! We often find ourselves thinking that if our partner, parent, child, friend, colleague or boss would just behave differently, we could finally feel happier, calmer or more at ease! But we disempower ourselves when our wellbeing becomes dependent on somebody else changing.I explore the difference between judgement and observation, and how our judgements are so often shaped by our own conditioning, beliefs, history and unresolved reactions. When we become still enough to observe rather than immediately judge, we create space for greater wisdom and clarity.I also askWhat if they never change?Acceptance doesn't mean having no boundaries. It doesn't mean tolerating behaviour that isn't right for us. We can ask for behaviour changes, create boundaries, change the nature of a relationship or leave altogether. But we can do these things from presence rather than reactivity. When we stop trying to change another person and begin investigating our own patterns, something shifts. We change our position in the relationship, and the relationship itself must then respond to that change.Ultimately, we cannot control another person's journey. But we can become conscious of our own.And freedom begins when we realise:My peace does not require your transformation.

Phillip Dugas opens up about a subject almost nobody talks about - the hidden abuse good, strong men suffer at the hands of narcissistic partners, and why most blokes wouldn't even recognise it's happening to them.Drawing on years of coaching men - athletes, entrepreneurs, even a US Navy SEAL - he breaks down how it starts: the love bombing and perfect-couple stage that curdles into years of walking on eggshells. He talks Dodge through gaslighting, isolation, and the gulf between a narcissist's public charm and private cruelty - the reason nobody believes the man when he finally speaks up. He unpacks the five red flags of a female narcissist, overt versus covert narcissism, and why almost none of them ever change. He lays out the exit strategy - documenting every argument, finding a tough divorce attorney before the smear campaign starts, and the brutal maths of staying versus leaving. And he opens up about the free resource, 21 Signs She Might Be a Narcissist, built to help men see the pattern before it's too late. This is the eventful life of Phillip Dugas. You don't usually think about the editor when a comedy lands its jokes, but editor Whit Conway is exactly why Never Change! moves the way it does. Mike talks with Conway about a career built on doing a little bit of everything — Chicago advertising work, Second City, SNL's pre-tape department, DP'ing for The Late Show, directing for Jimmy Kimmel Live! — and how that generalist grounding prepared him for this movie's absurd production math: shooting wrapped in late October 2025, and the finished film hit Hulu on June 17, 2026. Conway breaks down his years-long shorthand with director Marty Schousboe from three seasons of Joe Pera Talks With You, working alongside writer-star John Reynolds in the edit bay, the line-by-line organizational system that saved the cut, and the friends-and-family screening that reshaped the back half of the movie. He also gets into the one joke that made him nervous — the one where he says his own name out loud on camera.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-projection-booth--5513239/support.Become a supporter of The Projection Booth at http://www.patreon.com/projectionbooth

Editor, director, and producer Whit Conway explains how the Hulu comedy Never Change! was assembled on an unusually compressed post-production schedule. He discusses cutting scenes while production was still underway, building an organized Adobe Premiere Pro workflow, using searchable transcripts to locate alternate performances, and collaborating with director and co-editor Marty Schousboe. Conway also shares how constant iteration shapes comedy, why editors cannot become precious about an early cut, and how aspiring comedy filmmakers can create the work they want to be hired to make. In this episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins and guest Whit Conway discuss... How Whit's previous collaborations with director Marty Schousboe led to Never Change! Why the film's budget and delivery schedule required editing to begin during production Completing an initial assembly within a week of production wrapping Applying lessons from the fast-paced editorial workflows of Saturday Night Live and Joe Pera Talks With You Organizing footage into scene sequences and line-by-line collections of every performance How front-loading editorial organization saves time when producers request alternate takes Treating the first cut as a strong starting point rather than a version that must be protected Adjusting individual jokes by only a few frames and testing different reaction shots Preserving previous versions of scenes without formally tracking every editorial change Recognizing when a joke needs more work versus when the filmmakers have simply watched it too many times Using Premiere Pro's searchable speech-to-text transcripts to find improvised lines and specific takes Collaborating with directors who edit and directors who communicate their ideas conceptually Why strong directors know what they want while remaining open to better ideas from collaborators Managing creative disagreements, competing producer notes, and compressed deadlines How walks and time away from the edit room can help collaborators reset Why budget limitations ultimately determine when the filmmakers must put their pencils down Building a comedy-editing career by making long-form work, studying classic comedies, and creating projects with friends Treating unpaid personal projects as “extra credit” that can lead to new professional opportunities Memorable Quotes: “It is just my job to put the first version of the moment together as fast as I can and also be tickled by it.” “I think great directors do a couple of things. One, I think they know what they want. They know what the moment should be. Two, they are open and willing to see other versions of that moment.” “I think you don't have to have all the answers all the time.” “People understand you and know you through the work that you have done, that they have seen you do.” Guests: Whit Conway Resources: Watch Never Change! on Hulu Whit Conway's Website Adobe Premiere Speech to Text How These SNL Editors Cut an Emmy-Nominated Sketch With 60+ VFX Shots in 2 Days Cutting Comedy: Inside the Edit of Saturday Night Live's 50th Anniversary Field Producing on Last Week Tonight & Tackling Vimeo's EU/UK Problem Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web: No Film School Facebook: No Film School on Facebook Twitter: No Film School on Twitter YouTube: No Film School on YouTube Instagram: No Film School on Instagram

July 23 2026 Friday Who Jesus Made You To Be / Week 36 He Wil Never Change #findoutwhoyouare My Vision My vision is to teach the world Who They Are In Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! To Teach them what the Bible says about them and who they have been made to be in the promises of God's Word. This changed my life years ago and completely transformed me from a person full of doubt, fear and unbelief to a strong confident Christian that knows I can do anything through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. And I'm determined to teach the world what God has taught and commissioned me to teach and that is His Word.  That commission takes me to jails and detention centers weekly along with other open doors at many churches and ministries that are wanting to teach these important truths to the world. My podcast goes out 6 days a week to help the people I am ministering to grow in the truths that God has taught me for many years now. This podcast is free to all that want to listen and grow strong in who God has made them to be in Christ Jesus their Lord and Savior. My Prayers For The World Ephesians 1:15-23 NLT  'Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.'  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT 'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Youar roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.' In this episode, I cover: What the Law of Polarity actually says about energy, contrast, and charge — and why relationships without it go flat Jung's anima and animus: the masculine within the woman, the feminine within the man, and why knowing which one leads matters What the wild teaches us about polarity — from lionesses to wolves — and why nothing in nature survives on two things leading in the same direction at once Why a strong woman doesn't need a smaller man — she needs one secure enough that her strength makes him rise instead of react The truth about misogyny: why a controlling, reactive man isn't "too masculine" — he's dysregulated, and fear is wearing masculinity as a costume Why real polarity isn't about who's on top — it's about who's finally free to be fully themselves Key takeaway: Polarity isn't mystical or performative. It's nervous-system level real. And understanding it correctly changes how you read chemistry, safety, and who you choose. After the Affair
196. What If They Never Change?

After the Affair

Episode Summary / Show notes: One of the most frightening questions a betrayed partner can ask isn't: "Why did they do it?" Or even: "Can I trust them again?" It's this: What if they never change? What if the progress stops here? What if the conversations keep going in circles? What if the accountability never fully arrives? What if the relationship never becomes what you hope it could be? In this episode of After the Affair, Luke explores the fear that sits beneath so much of the uncertainty after betrayal: the possibility that the person you're waiting on may never become the person you're hoping they'll be. You'll discover how hope can quietly transform from a source of strength into a source of dependency, why many betrayed partners unknowingly tie their own healing to somebody else's growth, and how the sunk-cost fallacy can keep people emotionally invested long after they would otherwise have questioned their path. Most importantly, this episode explores what becomes possible when you stop making your peace conditional on another person's transformation. Because healing was never supposed to be a reward for their growth. It was always meant to belong to you. In This Episode You'll Learn: Why the question "What if they never change?" feels so emotionally threatening The hidden fear that often sits underneath hope How hope can gradually become emotional dependency The relationship between betrayal recovery and the sunk-cost fallacy Why waiting can feel safer than facing uncertainty How your wellbeing can become tied to something you don't control The difference between wanting someone to change and needing them to change Why your healing cannot depend entirely on another person's growth How to begin separating your recovery from your partner's behaviour What it means to build emotional stability regardless of the outcome of the relationship A Powerful Question From This Episode "Can you build a life, a sense of self, and a baseline of peace that exists independently of whether they ever fully become who you're hoping they'll become?" Because if the answer is yes, your future is no longer being held hostage by somebody else's choices. And if the answer is no, that isn't a failure. It's simply important information about where your healing work may need to focus next. Key Takeaways ✅ Hope is not the problem. ✅ Hope becomes problematic when it becomes the only thing holding the relationship together. ✅ Many betrayed partners unknowingly attach their future wellbeing to another person's growth. ✅ Waiting for change can become a way of avoiding difficult truths. ✅ The sunk-cost fallacy doesn't just affect money—it affects relationships too. ✅ Time invested does not automatically mean more time should be invested. ✅ Your healing and your partner's healing are two separate processes. ✅ Grief and commitment can coexist. ✅ You can work on a relationship whilst grieving the version you hoped it would become. ✅ Emotional stability becomes much stronger when it's built on your own choices rather than someone else's transformation. Why This Episode Matters After betrayal, it's natural to want reassurance that the pain, effort, and uncertainty will eventually lead somewhere meaningful. Many people find themselves waiting for evidence that their partner's growth will justify their decision to stay. But what happens when that change is slow? Inconsistent? Or uncertain? This episode explores the emotional cost of making your peace dependent on another person's progress and why true healing often begins when you reclaim ownership of your own future. Because the goal isn't to stop wanting the relationship to work. The goal is to stop needing it to work in order to be okay. Resources & Support If you're struggling with the uncertainty that follows betrayal and want support rebuilding trust, emotional stability, and confidence in your own decisions, Luke offers both private coaching and community support.

But there's one Christian distinctive that's supposed to stay stubbornly the same in every generation, whether it's first-century Rome, Victorian London, or your life right now.We open with the strange but beautiful reality that believers often feel immediate kinship with other believers, even when they've just met. Then we turn to 1 Peter 1:22–25, where the main verb is impossible to miss: love one another. We dig into Peter's foundation for that command: “obedience to the truth” as surrender to the gospel, and a “purified” soul as God's past act in the new birth. Real Christian love is not a personality trait or good manners. It's the fruit of being born again through the living and enduring Word of God.From there, we get concrete about what biblical love looks like: sincere love without masks, fervent love that stretches like an athlete to the limit, and intentional love from the heart that starts as a decision of the will and becomes action. We close with Peter's incentives to love, our shared family identity in Christ and our shared authority under Scripture that outlasts every trend and empire, plus a final challenge to push the walls of our love wider than we thought possible. What if the very thing we're craving—being fully known and fully loved—is the one thing we're quietly avoiding? In this episode, we sit down with Neil Sullivan to explore the deep tension many of us feel between longing for authentic connection and defaulting to self-protection. We unpack why leaders—especially pastors—often feel isolated, and how that isolation keeps us from experiencing the freedom, joy, and transformation we were made for.We share Neil's powerful story of how performance, hiddenness, and attachment shaped his life—and how God is redeeming it through authentic community. Together, we dive into why friendship isn't optional for spiritual growth, but essential. We also break down a practical pathway to transformation—one that starts with humility and moves through vulnerability, feedback, commitment, and accountability. We reflect on the reality that we weren't designed to do life alone—and ask the hard question: do we have anyone in our lives who truly knows everything about us?This conversation invites us to step out of hiding, embrace honest relationships, and experience the kind of connection that leads to real change.Support the show

E314: Why Emotions Turn Into “I'm Stuck,” “This Will Never Change,” or “I Can't Handle This”

We are experts at making our emotions much worse than they really are. You might feel stressed, and within a few seconds it becomes “I can't handle this.” You feel overwhelmed, and suddenly it's “this is too much.” You feel stuck or frustrated, and your mind goes to “this is never going to change.” In those moments, it doesn't feel like a thought. It feels true. It's not just that you're feeling something uncomfortable. It's that the feeling turns into a conclusion about your life. Stress turns into “I can't handle this.” Frustration turns into “this will never change.” Discomfort turns into “I need this to stop.” Once that happens, it changes how you experience everything. It changes how you think, feel, and what you want to do next. So in this episode, we're going to break down why that happens. Why emotions don't just stay as emotions, why your brain turns them into meaning, and why that can make you feel trapped, overwhelmed, or hopeless, even when the situation itself hasn't actually changed.
