Hi I'm Allen and I watch a lot of movies. This is me giving quick reviews of those movies. It's really that simple guys.
Looks we a re venturing back into the DCEU with a new look at the Suicide Squad. James Gunn clearly had fun with this one and so will you. It's on HBOMAX and in theaters but you already knew that because it turns out there's been commercials for this EVERYWHERE.
Okay so part of me wants to undersell Pig to you and just say it's the story of Nicolas Cage searching for his lost truffle pig but that really undersells the whole movie and this movie deserves more than that. It's dark, tense, funny and heartbreaking all at once and Nicolas Cage's best acting in YEARS.
Have you ever wondered about the history and lore behind the coolest ninjas to ever ninja? How about your favorite toys? Well have I got the movie for you! Hasbro knocked this one out of the park and I spent way too long talking about it!
Today I finally took another trip back to the land of musicals in an effort to find something for me with In the Heights. Was this trip to Washington Heights the gateway into songs and dance or am I forever lost without beat? You've gotta listen to find out.
Today I watched a movie about a band I didn't know existed until yesterday despite how they clearly inspired so much of my favorite songs. Today I think you should too. As I mentioned in the show here's the link to that playlist Edgar Wright put together for the show. You should listen to it after you're done listening to this review. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/46TVLiwHDx5mJRBbSiM2aR?si=yE3bIW_SRqywA6YDNOqvrQ&utm_source=copy-link&dl_branch=1
You know those movies that get made entirely on the charisma of the two leads? And then that works and so they make a sequel with even more talented people that don't have the same chemistry or charisma of the first two people and since they sunk almost all of their budget into the cast everything somehow looks cheaper than the first one? Yeah that's this movie.
Today I sat down and soaked up two Netflix exclusive movies and the first one you get to hear about is the Mitchells vs the Machines! It's a fun romp and new feel to what could be a tired trope and some of the most beautiful animation I've seen in awhile.
Tonight I needed something to do so I went and saw Spiral aka the newest movie in the Saw Universe. I honestly don't know why I'm reviewing this as it's a Saw movie and at this point you either like that sort of thing or you it don't but I figured I needed to get my thoughts on....paper?
Today I went and decided I had two hours I wanted to give away at the movie theater and I spent it watching Wrath of Man. Jason Statham really Jason Statham'd this one guys. Want to hear more well good news - there's a whole podcast episode about it!
Today I ventured BACK to the theaters with my veins full of the Pfizer vaccine ready to take in all of the ultra violence of Mortal Kombat! Did it live up to the hype or did it leave me longing to be the victim of a fatality? You've gotta listen to find out!
It's time once again for the Seattle International Film Festival and since I'm probably not gonna make an episode for every SIFF movie I see I figured I would just make an episode about SIFF and talk a little bit about two weird, fun movies I saw today as part of it - This Town and Wyrm. If you are interested in learning more you can visit siff.net and I hope you do. They deserve all of the support you can give them.
Today I rushed out (to my living room) and got myself a front row seat to the big kaiju battle Godzilla versus Kong on HBOMAX! I could probably go into this a lot more detail and whatnot but it's a movie about a giant dinosaur fighting a giant ape. There's not a whole lot else you need to know. Just listen okay? (Oh and I got a little excited and may have spoiled something about the end. Sorry.)
Today I decided to take a trip down memory lane and watch the documentary The Last Blockbuster on Netflix. This episode I tend to go off a little bit from just talking about the movie because the movie got me thinking just in general about my connection to movies as a whole and where it all started. You learn a lot about me in this one, and also I talk about Blockbuster. So listen to it yeah?
Well it's finally happened. Hell actually froze over and Warner Brothers and HBOMAX actually released Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League. You can count me as one of the people that never expected this day to come and yet here it is. If you're curious what I thought of it well I've got some great news - here's a brand new episode about it!
I've been wanting to do this one for awhile so I sat down and finally did the damned thing. I love romantic comedies. I always have and always will. But I also have strong feelings what is and isn't a romantic comedy. Like I will fight you over some of this. So after a long conversation with my friend Holly I decided to sit down with myself and talk about it. If you want to hear those thoughts well good news! There's an episode right here for you where I talk all about it!
Today I ventured into the realm of Irish folklore with the animated adventure Wolfwalkers. In what is bound to become a classic piece of animation that could also just get lost in the sea of streaming platforms where no one actually sees it. And that's a shame. Want to hear more l? Well good news I did a whole episode about it!
Today I sat down and had my privilege examined through the new Netflix original movie Moxie. This movie discusses sexual equality, bullying, the patriarchy and standing together to fight against something you think is wrong. It's pretty great. But you should listen to me say all that too. And you can!
Today I sat down and time traveled back to the land of Zamunda with the new Eddie Murphy sequel Coming 2 America on Amazon Prime. Does it hold up to the original or does it come across as much of a stale rip off as the Big Mick? You've gotta listen to find out!
Today I sat down and decided to go ahead and watch the 2020 Golden Globe winner for Best Dramatic Film Nomadland. It took a lot out of me emotionally so I don't know if I can make a joke here but you should listen to the review and then go watch the movie. yep. That's what I got for you.
The other day I was flipping through Tiktok and saw a video talking about the movie Book of Henry and I decided I absolutely had to see it for myself. And so I did! And here's my review! That's it. No fun joke here. Just watch this movie if you haven't seen it yet. I promise you will absolutely not see it coming.
Today I continued on my Disney classics adventure with Pixar's A Bug's Life! Yes I know they weren't owned by Disney at the time it came out but Disney and Pixar are one and the same so deal with it. Does this one infest my heart or does it leave me wanting to call pest control? You've gotta listen to find out!
