Dean Karayanis, New York Sun columnist and former Rush Limbaugh staffer, broadcasts straight from the writing shed to break down the media's relentless narrative control, the assault on free speech standards, and why the erasure of historical truth matters in Christopher Nolan's “The Odyssey.” Dean will be guest-hosting for Derek at WMAL on Friday, May 22nd. Dean exposes the mainstream media's predictable meltdown over a clip of President Donald Trump talking about White House ballroom budgets, pointing out how journalists manipulate language to manufacture "all-caps EXPLOSIONS." He then dives into the brewing cultural controversy surrounding Hollywood's new adaptation of Homer's “The Odyssey.” Reacting to comments from The View's Sunny Hostin and actor John Leguizamo, Dean delivers a powerful defense of Greek history and culture. As a person of Greek ancestry, he takes aim at the hypocrisy of "cultural appropriation" rules, detailing the historical trauma of the Greek genocide and explaining why Hollywood's double standards insult true minority populations. Later in the program, Dean addresses the dangerous trend of government-backed censorship, sounding the alarm on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (AOC) calls to "rein in" the media environment and weaponize the FCC. He draws parallels to George Orwell's “1984,” highlighting how figures like former FBI Director James Comey celebrate using the legal process as a punishment against political enemies. Finally, Dean honors actress Gina Carano for winning her free speech battle against Disney and calls on conservatives to defend the U.S. Constitution as the ultimate bulwark against modern-day despots.

Something mysterious is happening out there — and it's heading our way. Scientists have spotted strange space explosions getting closer to Earth, and no one's exactly sure what's causing them. These bursts are powerful enough to be detected across galaxies, yet they appear without warning and vanish just as fast. Could it be collapsing stars, merging black holes… or something we've never seen before? This video breaks it all down in a way that's easy to follow but seriously mind-blowing. Buckle up — space is sending us signals, and you're going to want to know what they mean. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A Parenting Resource for Children’s Behavior and Mental Health
If your child flips from calm to furious in seconds, you may wonder why your child's mood swings aren't just attitude and when to worry. In this episode, Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge, founder of Regulation First Parenting™ and expert in childhood emotional dysregulation, explains what's really driving the behavior—and how to help.If your child goes from calm to furious in seconds, you've probably heard, “It's just hormones” or “It's attitude.” But what if why your child's mood swings aren't just attitude and when to worry is the real question?Let's unpack what's really driving your child's behavior, when mood shifts may point to mental health issues, and how to calm the brain first. Why do my child's mood swings feel so extreme?Mood swings don't automatically mean bad attitude. Often, they reflect nervous system overload — and sometimes emerging mental health conditions, including depressive symptoms. When stress builds, cortisol rises, the amygdala fires fast, and the thinking brain goes offline. That's when you hear, “I hate you!” or “You're ruining my life!”In younger children, regulation skills are still developing. But when reactions are intense, frequent, and prolonged, we consider whether something more is happening — such as:Anxiety disordersAttention deficit hyperactivity disorderAutism spectrum disorderOppositional defiant disorderDisruptive mood dysregulation disorderEarly signs of a mood disorder, including major depressive disorder or even bipolar disorderWhat's really happening:The emotional brain is overactivatedThe logical brain can't regulate quicklyStress chemistry drives intense outburstsPhysical symptoms may appear (headaches, stomachaches, fatigue)Sleep patterns may shift, including difficulty falling asleepBehavior is communication. And when reactions seem like an elephant-sized response to an ant-sized problem, it's usually biology—not defiance.Real-Life Example: Your child loses it over the wrong snack. It's not about crackers. It's about a stress cup that's already overflowing from school pressure, social stress, poor sleep, and sensory overload. Are they doing this for attention—or do they need help? When kids are dysregulated, they're seeking safety, not attention.Big reactions are the nervous system saying: “I can't regulate alone.”Instead of harsher consequences, try:Containment before correctionLowering stimulation during trigger windowsCo-regulation (your calm spreads)

2026-03-16 | UPDATES #146 | Spectacular explosions in Russia – Ukraine has gone after something bigger than another refinery fire and more consequential than just another spectacular ammo dump explosion on Russian soil. Overnight on March 11–12, 2026, Ukrainian drones struck infrastructure at the Tikhoretsk oil pumping station in Krasnodar Krai — a hub that multiple outlets describe as one of the largest oil logistics nodes in southern Russia. Reuters, citing a source in Ukraine's SBU, says the strike hit the pumping station and triggered a large fire. Russian regional authorities also acknowledged the attack and said emergency crews were fighting a blaze. ----------SUPPORT THE CHANNEL:https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtainhttps://www.gofundme.com/f/scaling-up-campaign-to-fight-authoritarian-disinformation----------A REQUEST FOR HELP!I'm heading back to Kyiv next month, to film, do research and conduct interviews. Explosions have again been heard in locations across Tehran, as darkness fell in Iran's capital. Earlier the United States and Israel stepped up their attacks on Iranian cities, including Karaj and Isfahan, where eyewitnesses described bodies lying in the street. Also, President Trump has said he needs to be personally involved in selecting Iran's next leader. The United States and Israel have carried out a sixth day of attacks. Columns of smoke are towering in the sky in the capital, Tehran, where the Azadi football stadium appears to have been severely damaged. We'll also investigate unconfirmed reports that the US is trying to foment a Kurdish rebellion in the north of Iran. Also in the programme: people in Nepal have been voting for the first time since last year's "Gen Z" demonstrations, in which dozens of young protesters died; and the drug trials that have had some terrific results for children with the severest epilepsy.(Photo: People gather on the sides of a road as smoke rises in the background following an explosion, amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, in Tehran, Iran, March 5, 2026. I am talking about what it means to grow up in a home where you never saw healthy conflict resolution, where the emotional weather was unpredictable, and where the only survival strategy available to you was to scan, suppress, and perform fine. I am talking about what that does to your nervous system, what wound it leaves behind, and why that wound keeps speaking through your reactions long after the original danger is gone. This is not a conversation about controlling yourself or managing your emotions better. It is about understanding the thing underneath the explosion deeply enough that it finally starts to lose its grip, because the reaction is never the last thing that changes. It is always the first thing that changes when you go all the way down to the root.

A recent study published in Physical Review Letters suggests that the mysterious high-energy neutrino detected in 2023 may have originated from a quasi-extremal primordial black hole. This type of black hole, theorized to exist since the Big Bang, could explain the otherwise unexplainable energy levels of the neutrino and potentially unlock the secrets of dark matter and the fundamental nature of the universe.Mars' Dust Storms and Water LossNew research published in Communications Earth and Environment reveals that localized dust storms on Mars may play a significant role in the planet's water loss. While Mars is currently a dry desert, evidence from its surface indicates a wetter past. The study shows that intense dust storms can transport water vapor to higher altitudes, facilitating its escape into space, thus contributing to the long-standing mystery of Martian water depletion.Plasma Daniel for Hypersonic TestingA groundbreaking facility known as the plasma tunnel is now being used by scientists and engineers to simulate the extreme conditions spacecraft face during atmospheric reentry. The plasma tunnel generates high-speed plasma flows that mimic the intense heat and pressure experienced during reentry, providing critical data for developing safer and more efficient spacecraft. This innovative technology could revolutionize our understanding of hypersonic flight and enhance mission safety for future space exploration.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesPhysical Review Letters, Communications Earth and EnvironmentBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-with-stuart-gary--2458531/support.(00:00:00) Astronomers investigate a potential black hole explosion(00:07:15) New study reveals how dust storms on Mars contribute to water loss(00:15:30) The plasma tunnel: recreating atmospheric reentry conditions(00:22:45) Science report: Genetic factors influencing life expectancy(00:30:00) Bigfoot sightings and cultural phenomena in America
