This Episode is sponsored by Cloudflare Workers (https://enjoythevue.io/cloudflare-workers) Join us today as we talk to Ash Ryan Arnwine (developer experience leader for DataStax) about Getting Started Guides. Ash takes us through his experience with Vue, and how the guides in Vue 1 were the North Star for him when he was working with Adobe Creative Cloud. We discuss the challenges in migrating from different versions, and the downsides to Getting Started videos in place of text. Find out how keeping Ash's four-year-old daughter from sleeping is the highest praise the Vue team has received, and what each of the team feels is better: prescriptive or flexible guides. From picking the correct level to pitch your instructions at, to the different types of people defined as “developers”, you don't want to miss out on this information-packed episode! Key Points From This Episode: Welcome to Ash Ryan Arnwine, developer experience leader for DataStax and previously, Adobe Creative Cloud. Ash's introduction to Vue and why it became the North Star for thinking about writing documentation. What makes the path from getting started to building an app clear. Finding the balance between prescriptive and “sprinkling in some HTML” in Vue. How Vue has a background framework beyond the beginner's instructions. The importance of being able to access the full app code on GitHub. Picking the level of developer that your Getting Started Guide caters to (sometimes the middle-ground is the worst place to be). Why you need to maintain your Getting Started Guide. How to highlight important information that people might skip when reading the Getting Started Guide. The challenges of migrating from Vue 2 to Vue 3, and communicating it to users. Why it's crucial to make a roadmap of where the app is going. How Vue's completely honest self-appraisal won Ash over. Why videos are less appealing than documents about Getting Started. The naming conventions for Vue. Creating a community to talk about “software things” in different places. How to contact Ash. Discover this week's picks from each of the team! Wenlei Ma says Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a face-paced superhero blockbuster, the second season of Morning Wars is hard to resist and New Gold Mountain is riveting.
Even if the guys can't agree how to pronounce Shang Chi, or remember how they said it seven minutes before, they agree on the quality of the movie. At least they think Art will, also, as soon as he sees it. It's Marvel's latest addition to the MCU, and The Guys give it Ten Rings. In the Geeks of the Week segment, Jay returns to the Wonder Years, Art gives an update on Spidey's rights, and Robbie lets everybody know that they just missed the limited edition toy purchase of a lifetime.
On today's episode, Dylan and his good friend Brandon discuss the season overview for What If...? Spoiler warning for any sad soul who hasn't seen these products, but they also dive into Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings along with Venom: Let There Be Carnage. HE'S A HACKER, QUESTION MARK?! Judy and Linda try out newer dramas for Fall 2021. We decided to give "D.P." (Deserter Pursuit), starring Jung HaeIn, Koo KyoHwan and Kim SungKyun, its own KDMEO episode. Coming soon! Digressions: 0:47 - New Patreon donors and Listener E-mails! 11:39 - Judy insists that you watch "Seinfeld", now on Netflix, but only from season 2 onwards. 14:29 - Let season 2 of "The Baby-Sitters Club" give you a warm, comforting hug. 15:49 - "Far Cry 6" is out! Judy is new to the franchise and is eager to acquire the so-called Battle Chicken, but will it be enough to stave off the post-Mass Effect depression? 19:04 - Linda really enjoyed "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", reminiscent of beautiful martial arts movies of old. 23:37 - "Yumi's Cells" (유미의 세포들) is a TVN drama, starring Kim GoEun and An BoHyun. It's based on a 2015 webtoon, which may have been amusing, but the animated bits slow down the pace way too much. Kim GoEun's bangs and An BoHyun's chin scruff are distractingly awful. 30:29 - "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" (갯마을 차차차) is a TVN romantic comedy, starring Shin MinA and Kim SeonHo. Judy remembers the 2004 movie with much fondness. This is an easy watch with two adorable lead actors, so try it out! 39:24 - "Police University" (경찰수업) is an eyeroll-inducing piece from KBS. It stars JinYoung (B1A4), Krystal (f(x)) and Cha TaeHyun, and they can't do anything to help the godawful material. Some Korean terms: 답답하다 [dap-dap-ha-da] to be frustrated. 뽑기 [ppop-gi] candy made with sugar and baking soda; currently super popular due to "Squid Game". This week we're talking about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the latest and (in Samuel's opinion) greatest Marvel movie. We discuss the dynamic action throughout, the fantastic main antagonist, and complain about all the stuff that drags it down (hint: it's all the normal Marvel stuff). Also, why we hate new TVs. (Recorded October 4th, 2021.)
Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings is the first movie in Marvel's phase 4 movie exclusively in theaters. The push to return to normalcy in the real world is echoed in the film. On the surface, Shang-Chi seems like something new, but the MCU formula is still there. In this episode, we take an in-depth look at Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings with a longtime friend of the show in Brad the Bad Lyre to talk about what we liked, disliked, and what could have been improved on the movie.
