After making hit action movies like Armageddon and Bad Boys, Michael Bay directed a high concept sci-fi film about clones. Audiences and critics were not impressed at the time, but this week we take a second look at this movie's futuristic world of 2019 and find everything it got right!Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPb Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/botrcast Email: bestoftherestpod@gmail.com Social Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Bonus content: Youtube Theme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: Instagram Music by Mitch: Twitter, SoundCloud Logo by Alex Brinegar: https://beardodoesdesign.com/ Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram

Guess what, there's another reason to question the existence of the PS5 Pro! The Sony Sate of Play was pretty solid today, and its mainly due to the James Bond game trailer. Microsoft pushes back its handheld plans, Nintendo keeps it close to the vest, and Activision has a blunder. Plus Netflix has its Tudum, Mark Hamill shares his future, and thank god we don't live in the Michael Bay Superman Timeline. Plus my review of Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning.

Jamie, Jimmy and Bob are happy with their haircuts as they breakdown the script to Michael Bay's 1996 action masterpiece The Rock.
This week on Pop Culture Pastor, Dave and Cody set out in search of eternal youth and… mostly find studio notes and safe choices. In our full review of Fountain of Youth, we dive into Guy Ritchie's lightest touch yet, a charming John Krasinski, and a MacGuffin so undercooked it might still be thawing. Is it fun? Sometimes. Is it deep? Not especially. But hey, there's a moped chase and some ancient Christian imagery just vague enough to avoid offending anyone. Also in this episode:Michael Bay is making a Skibidi Toilet movie. That sentence alone may signal the end of western civilization.Thunderbolts bombs at the box office, and we try to figure out if it's Marvel fatigue, character obscurity, or just a tragic lack of marketing.Taylor Swift fans think the AMAs muted her applause. We investigate (and theorize wildly).
Buckle up, check your badges, and crank that Inner Circle track—we're diving back into the bullet-riddled, wisecrack-packed chaos of Bad Boys (1995). It's the full Michael Bay treatment: slo-mo shootouts, gratuitous gun fights... Timestamps:00:00:00 Nerd Culture #21000:01:55 Wat gaan we vandaag doen? 00:03:43 Comment van de week!00:12:01 Wat hebben we gekeken/gelezen/geluisterd?00:12:16 Black Bag00:15:38 Slow Horses00:18:28 Mission: Impossible Death Reckoning00:19:38 Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning00:29:40 Ted Lasso00:35:29 The Sopranos00:43:32 One Day (Emma en Dex)00:48:14 De Poolse Bruid00:54:37 The Last of Us S201:00:49 Not Just a Goof01:02:28 Atlanta: S8 E401:04:40 The Fountain of Youth 01:07:36 Volgende film Tom Cruise wordt brute actie komedie01:11:37 (Nieuwe) Jurassic World Rebirth Trailer01:14:39 Avengers Doomsday en Secret Wars officieel uitgesteld, krijgen we een nieuwe kersttraditie?01:16:18 Het DC Universe gaat chronologisch lopen.01:21:20 Documentaire Shia LaBeouf laat mensen weglopen op Cannes01:23:59 Michael Bay werkt aan Skibidi Toilet film01:27:27 Avatar 2 weer in de bioscoop voor Avatar 301:29:57 A24 en The Pebble gaan samen meer films maken01:32:04 James Bond gecast?01:34:11 Gaan we nog even naar Tom Cruise kijken deze week en deze week hebben we een popcorn etende Tom Cruise
It's Friendship Week here at Breakfast All Day. And we've come to cause delightful and adorable chaos over the long holiday. If you're looking for our review of the new "Mission: Impossible," we did that in last week's episode. First, we discuss the new "Lilo & Stitch," which is an awful lot like the old "Lilo & Stitch." Disney is once again redoing their animated favorites as live-action features. We're mixed on it, but families will enjoy it, and the casting is great. In theaters. Then we catch up with the cringe comedy of "Friendship" from A24. Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd co-star as neighbors who become unlikely pals really quickly, then have a really ugly falling out. We don't agree on how well this movie works. It's been playing in limited release but expands nationwide this weekend. Finally, we have our first Movie News LIVE! in a few weeks, now that things are getting back to normal for Christy, health-wide. Lots to talk about including the Cannes Film Festival, Alex Garland's "Elden Ring" movie, Michael Bay's "Skibidi Toilet" movie, trailers for Darren Aronofsky's "Caught Stealing" and "The Bear" S4, Billy Joel's sad medical diagnosis and more. We're hoping to get back to these livestreams more consistently now, so stay tuned. Thanks for sharing some of your time with us! * Christy is loving the latest limited-edition, non-alcoholic brew from Athletic Brewing Co., where she's proud to be an ambassador: Aftershift, which is light-bodied with notes of lime leaf and yuzu. An asteroid is heading for Earth—and only oil drillers can save us?! We're diving deep into Armageddon (1998), Michael Bay's wild ride of explosions, dad-daughter drama, and scientifically questionable space missions. In this episode, the So Many Sequels crew breaks down:
„Crawling“ oder „Somewhere I Belong“.

Michael Bay is going to make an action film out of a meme. There's buzz around ‘Drop' a new movie starring Meggan Fahy and Branon Sklenar. You'll never guess which state watches the most TV. Tonka needed something to get them out of a $10,000,000 hole. The needed to transform their situation. Dave Young: Welcome to the Empire Builders Podcast, teaching business owners the not-so-secret techniques that took famous businesses from mom and pop to major brands. Stephen Simple is a marketing consultant, story collector and storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner, Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode, a word from our sponsor, which is, well, it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So, here's one of those. [Pinpoint Ad] Dave Young: Welcome back to the Empire Builders Podcast, Dave Young here, along with Stephen Semple, and we're talking about empires. And the one you gave me now is I have to admit, I am familiar with the brand, but I'm not an active participant in the brand. I think I've mentioned on here before, I raised four daughters, and so today's topic is Transformers. And none of my daughters were ever into Transformers as a toy. I was beyond toys when Transformers, I think first came around. So I've never even really jumped into the movies. But big, big brand. Stephen Semple: Huge brand. Dave Young: Tell me how they got started. Stephen Semple: Well, and the interesting thing, I almost included my oldest daughter, Crystal, in the recording of this, and I decided that, no, we might do a follow-up episode with her because she is a massive Transformers fan. Dave Young: Wow. Okay. Stephen Semple: And the interesting thing is she never played with them as a kid, but she found herself into the fandom. And today there's a whole thing I want to do about fandoms because it really speaks to the role that social media plays with a lot of companies. Dave Young: I feel like as a kid, I would've loved them. Stephen Semple: Because there's this unbelievably rich storyline behind Transformers that is incredible. And then it's actually one that is fragmented into the Michael Bay Transformers storyline versus the historic ones, because Michael Bay is the one who made the movies. It's this crazy world when you dig into it. But, the story of Transformers is actually a story of a battle between two decent-sized companies. So it's not normally what we do, but it was so interesting, I thought we got to talk about this because it's a story about a battle between Tonka and Hasbro. Dave Young: Oh, man. Just like Wonka and the other guy. Yeah. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. Today the Transformers franchise, I think is a $25 billion franchise between the movies and the toys. It is massive. And the story goes back to we're in July of 1983, and Tonka is struggling for a new hit. Tonka is being run by Steve Shank, and they're like $10 million in the hole, and they're known for trucks. And think back to the '80s, what's happening, video games are growing and the market is shifting away from things like playing with trucks. And Tonka did not shift with it. So they're really, really struggling. And Shank has hired a Mattel veteran, Pat Fellie. He's the guy who basically helped turn things around at Mattel with He-Man. So he was basically the really a key person with developing of He-Man. And so they need something quick. And the shortcut is to license existing toys because the development and manufacturing is done. It's quicker and cheaper to market. So they go out everywhere looking around for something to market, and they come across this toy that Knickerbocker has. Knickerbocker is going out of business, and it's this interesting toy, which is a car and a robot, but it's a cheap knockoff. The real one is being done in Japan by Bandai, which is making this thing called a Machine Robo. And so Steve Shank heads to Tokyo to get the rights. And Bandai demands, okay, well, we can make this for you, but you got to buy 800,000 units as part of the deal, and Tonka has never sold that much,
Degens Andy S and Brandon Bombay "whatchya gonna do 'fore they come for you?" before talking about a buddy cop movie that not only kickstarted a franchise, but changed the face of action movies, 'Bad Boys.' Bombay starts it off with a story of hitting up dicey clubs and after hours in Miami, and then making friends with a drug dealer at one of the city's most notorious shady spots. Then the fellas dive in on Michael Bay's slick, over-stylized actioner that helped shape the look, and framework of action flicks for years to come. Bolstered by two leads in Will Smith and Martin Lawrence who have immeasurable chemistry, charisma, and charm. It also featured an underrated sultry performance from Megan Fox's blue eyed, dark haired prototype, Tea Leoni. Ultimately, it leads to the guys championing for the resurgence of family-friendly R-rated movies that have naughty words and guns, but are ultimately a good time for the whole family. Stop at the store, grab some Skittles, and pop on the episode.

While it has been a year for our hero Andor, it has been almost two or more for our beloved co-host AJ. We have him setup to record remotely now and hopefully that will mean we get to hear his opinion on the latest from Disney star wars intellectual properties. Speaking of, we all just re-watched Andor. By far the most anticipated Star Wars show to return to the digital steaming platform, Andor once again depicts the series of events that lead up to the theatrical debut of the character in rogue one. my goodness, did Disney spend a lot of money on the sets for this season! Everything you see, looks like it's right in front of the camera. Not that there were not any digital effects to fill in the gaps but, the series continues to put an impeccable shine and levels of grit and dirt where needed to get the audience to feel what the characters are feeling in a given moment. Initially, I was not a big fan of this episode. Yes, the action with the tie advanced was very cool, lots of explosions, Michael Bay etc. however, the story line with Maya Pei brigade that take Andor hostage did not do much for me. I just found their immature bickering to be annoying and it took me out of the story. Their dialog did not seem to match Star Wars, if that makes sense. Even though I did not appreciate these scenes as much, that meant I got to appreciate the scenes with Luthen, Mon Mothma, Vel, Bix, Brasso and the rest of the cast who returned for the second season. Speaking of returning characters, Dedra is back! As evil as she is under the surface it a fascinating to see how she moves about her environment and how she thinks. She has a job to do and if she were on the other side of the war she might be even more fanatical than Saw Guerrera. Scenes with her and Major Partagaz and other imperials were some of the best. especially for the first episode of the series. Let's talk about the “Millennial Reign”. It's like the Bible tosses us a few cryptic verses in Revelation 20, and end time theologians just can't help themselves—they grab that sketchy outline and turn it into a Michael Bay movie. Jesus comes swooping in like a cosmic CEO, setting up an earthly government (that looks suspiciously like the one we've got now), except He's the president, and we're all bickering over who gets to be Vice President or Chief of Staff in the Kingdom. A lot of people right now seem to be applying for the Department of Justice position. We learn that we're gonna “rule and reign,” and the vibe is we'll just be bossing around everybody else who didn't make the cut. That whole setup smells like human ego dressed up in the robes of religion, not the heart of Jesus.

What if we recasted Michael Bay's 1996 classic "The Rock?"Ash Hurry joins us once again to break down why this film stands as possibly Bay's greatest achievement and the culmination of Nicolas Cage's action movie trilogy. • Exploring the James Bond theory: Sean Connery's character John Mason is actually an older James Bond who was captured and imprisoned• Michael Bay's filmography and how "The Rock" represents his peak before the Transformers era• The anti-villain brilliance of Ed Harris's General Hummel – threatening but ultimately unwilling to follow through• Standout scenes including the shower room speech by Michael Biehn and the green smoke finale • Chemistry between Cage and Connery creates the perfect action movie pairing, similar to other great duos in film history• And of course, our fun recasting game, where we reimagine the film with modern actors (Nick), DC universe actors (Ash), and professional wrestlers (Cory).Check out our social media for more content and to join the conversation about your favorite action movie duos and scenes from The Rock. Have you ever thought about tariffs as a "game-changer" rather than just a “political hot button”? Did you know Japan is quietly investing $1 trillion in U.S. manufacturing—especially in southern and southwestern states? That's right. In this new episode, Dan Sullivan and I dive deep into how tariffs, strategic factory moves, and AI-driven audits may soon reduce our taxes (yes, you read that right) while fueling unprecedented economic growth in America. If that sounds like a Michael Bay movie script, you're not far off—except this is playing out in real life, right now. We talk about Trump's “reciprocal tariffs,” Elon Musk's big-government audit with AI, and why countries like Japan are betting big on producing goods inside the U.S., instead of overseas. If you love big-picture, high-stakes drama with real entrepreneurial takeaways, you'll want to tune in.KEY INSIGHTS & TAKEAWAYSTariffs Are Making a ComebackAfter WWII, the U.S. temporarily abandoned tariffs to rebuild other nations and contain the Soviet threat. Now that era is over, and “reciprocal tariffs” are in play—if you tax American goods, we'll tax yours. Or you can just move your factories to the U.S.Japan's $1 Trillion Bet on American ManufacturingFacing a shrinking workforce, Japan decided 30 years ago to build factories where they sell goods. Enter the U.S. south and southwest—lower labor costs, fewer unions, and easier access to American consumers.Moving the U.S. Government to “Warp Speed”Dan and I discuss Trump's possible plan to use tariffs to fund government operations (hello, “External Revenue Service!”) while simultaneously lowering domestic taxes. If that works, it could trigger an economic boom.AI Audits: Elon Musk's Government OverhaulImagine real-time accounting for every federal check ever cut. That's what happens when you unleash advanced AI to track spending—stopping fraud and inefficiency in its tracks. Lower costs, better governance, fewer excuses. It's Not Just About PoliticsThe reason these moves are so urgent? The U.S. economy is its greatest weapon and negotiation tool. If the numbers line up, say goodbye to bloated budgets and hello to rapid innovation. The Western Hemisphere Is the New Growth EnginePeter Zeihan's research suggests that power is shifting west. Europe's star may be fading, and the big action will be in North and South America—partly because the U.S. can pressure countries with economic, rather than military, force. What It Means for Entrepreneurs (and You)If America becomes the hottest manufacturing hub again, it spells massive opportunity: new factories, high-value jobs, and more disposable income at home. Plus, if government spending shrinks, taxes may drop—fueling startups, scale-ups, and everything in-between.TIME STAMPS[00:00:00] Tariffs 101 Dan explains how tariffs helped the U.S. become #1 by 1900, and why after WWII we artificially dropped them to contain the Soviet Union.[00:03:10] Japan Moves In The backstory behind Japan's multi-decade strategy: build factories in America to sidestep both tariffs and a shrinking domestic workforce.[00:10:44] Economic vs. Military Power Mike and Dan explore how the real “weapon” now is the U.S. economy—not battleships. This is reshaping alliances, trade, and even the future of space exploration.[00:14:26] Union vs. Non-Union States Why overseas giants choose red states over blue to minimize union costs—and how that might transform American politics.[00:24:19] Elon Musk & Government AI Trump taps Musk to audit the entire U.S. government using advanced AI. The potential outcome? $3 trillion “lost” dollars suddenly reappear, possibly replacing the income tax with tariffs.[00:32:57] Europe's Diminishing Relevance Dan argues that Europe has become more of a “historic Disney World” than an innovative force, lacking the cultural spark of earlier centuries.[00:41:00] The Future Is Made in the USA Why more nations, including the UK, India, and South Korea, may follow Japan's lead—bringing factories stateside to dodge tariffs and be closer to American consumers. If you love big ideas and epic plot twists, this episode is basically Netflix's next political thriller—except it's happening in real life. Join Dan and me for a mind-bending conversation on how the world economy could flip in the next few years, and what you can do to position yourself and your business for massive opportunity.Additional ResourcesDownload your FREE digital and/or audio version of my bestselling book, “Your Next Act!”Book your $1k Cup of Coffee with me (Mike) here.
