Und was macht überhaupt Michael Bay? Und warum hört er nicht damit auf? David und Johannes haben viel zu besprechen. Und das ziehen sie konsequent durch! Viel Spaß und LG

David is humble and borderline shy about his accomplishments, yet certain and fiercely focused on his missions in life. His passion to achieve greatness in the entertainment industry became clear to him a long time ago while finishing up a tour of duty in the Marine Corps, Recon Unit attached to a Navy Seals unit in the "Desert Storm" war. After his enlistment and Literally digging his boots through the hot sands of IRAQ. He spent a year there only seeing 4 actual days of Combat. While ducking and dodging bullets in the Persian Gulf, he held onto to his dream of one day becoming a successful actor, it was this vision that carried him through. Upon returning to Los Angeles, David's big break came when he was scouted from an acting workshop taught by Chip Fields, mother of "Gimme a Break" and "Living Single" star Kim Fields. The Rock (1996) Episode 166: Show Notes. Hello everyone and thank you for joining us for another episode of Your Inner Child Is An Idiot podcast, a show diving into the nostalgic memories of pop culture from our childhoods. When you hear ‘The Rock' most people will think of the wrestler, but we are not talking about that rock; we are talking about the 90s hit film about an escape from Alcatraz Prison. It starred Nicholas Cage as the no-holds-barred hero, the legend Sean Connery, and Ed Harris as the perplexing villain. In this episode, we don't hold back and talk about the plot of the movie, why the love interest has no impact on the plot, the problems with Nicholas Cage's character, what the best lines in the movie are, the role of female characters in the film, why some of the movie's plot does not make sense, and why the car chase scene is good and bad at the same time. Tune in today for another hilarious episode as we unpack one of the cheesiest movies in history to find out if your inner child is an idiot, with your hosts, Damon Xanthopoulos and DJ Phillips! Key Points From This Episode: Introduction to today's topic and discussion about Sausalito cookies. We find out how Damon feels about the actor Ed Harris. A breakdown and recap of the plot of the movie The Rock. What people first think of when you mention Michael Bay. A discussion about the confusing plot of the hero's love interest. We attempt to pin down the exact character traits of the hero, Stanley Goodspeed. Why the pregnancy test in the movie is in a little glass vial. The problem with Nicholas Cage's character: too good, too soon. What the roles of female characters are in typical Michael Bay movies. A rundown of the cast and what other movies they have acted in. We discuss Ed Harris's character and why it is so cheesy. Damon points out how rain does not work properly in the movie. We unpack the plot twists regarding Ed Harris's character. The point where we lost our patience with the movie. Why Damon cannot sympathize with Ed Harris's character. One of the craziest scenes in the movie: the car chase scene. Find out some of the best lines in the movie. Reasons why the ‘rocket man' scene is so ridiculous. We close the show by hearing Damon and DJ's verdicts on the movie. Tweetables: “I usually think of Transformers. I think I didn't realize this was him. But this might be the platonic form of a Michael Bay movie. I'm not going to declare that, but I'm going to put that forward as a possibility.” — @yiciai DJPhillips [0:16:28] “Yeah. He plays that James Bond-ish character very well and he does it with aplomb in this movie. But Nicolas Cage is so all over the place that I don't know what I'm supposed to think about him.” — @yiciai @damonxanth [0:27:20] “It's not just like he changes over the course of the movie. It's literally from sentence to sentence. It's completely different. It makes me miss his characterization in Con Air, if that tells you anything.” — @yiciai DJPhillips [0:28:36] “It's a really dumb plan and I feel aggrieved that the movie wants me to sympathize with Ed Harris, even though he's doing reprehensible things.” — @yiciai @damonxanth [0:46:24] “This is a very stupid car chase. Please let the record show that I believe that. I really enjoyed this car chase. It was very dumb. But I don't know if I've ever seen a car chase that makes me think.” — @yiciai @damonxanth [0:49:54] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: YICIAI YICIAI on Facebook YICIAI on Twitter YICIAI Email - yourinnerchildisanidiot@gmail.com Voicemail or Text YICIAI: (615) 576-0525 The Rock (1996) Find us at all the finest podcast places: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/yourinnerchildisanidiot Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/dj-phillips/your-inner-child-is-an-idiot Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/your-inner-child-is-an-idiot/id957660267 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4BHABEvxH02VSCkhvKX2HQ?si=NHxzzArHSxGnxFUvTEpbNQ Mentions: Thank you to our Patrons for welcoming us to The Rock: Heather Tuggle, Jonathon Day, Damon's Australian Accent, Particle Man, Dan McIntyre, The Hands of Fate, Jackson Has An Unhealthy Obsession With Damon, The Elusive Fan Gromkin, Shit on the Cartouche!, Josh Frigo, Dramatically Placed Hot Dog, Travis Vance, Hizoner the Mayor, Beth Surmont, David Mort, The Supreme Ruler of This Podcast, Just Cuz, Scalfasaurus, Dr. Malcolm's Heaving Bosom, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, T. Ep.K390: Hollywood's Last Real Movie Star   The helicopter had the star's name painted on it, the letters coming into focus as it landed on the retired aircraft carrier, which was adorned for the occasion with an expansive red carpet and a smattering of fighter jets. Tom Cruise. Top Gun. Maverick. It couldn't have been anyone else. Decked out in a slim-fitting suit, his hair a little shaggier and his face a little craggier than when he first played Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell more than three decades ago, Cruise took the stage on the USS Midway while Harold Faltermeyer's iconic theme music played in the background. Gesturing to the spectacle around him, including the crowd of fans and media members, Cruise said: “This moment right here, to see everybody at this time, no masks. Everyone. This is, this is pretty epic.” It also felt like a time capsule. The three-hour promotional escapade — which included a batch of F-18 fighter jets executing a flyover to the sound of a Lady Gaga song from the film — harkened back to the halcyon days of Hollywood glamour. Days when Disney didn't think twice about shuttling an aircraft carrier from San Diego to Hawaii for the premiere of Michael Bay's “Pearl Harbor” in 2001. That kind of extravagance seems almost unthinkable today, when the streaming algorithm and its accompanying digital marketing efforts have replaced the old-fashioned boots-on-the-ground publicity tour with stars circumnavigating the globe, and studios spending millions to turn movie openings into cultural events. Making these events go were the film's megastars. They are the kind of stars who no longer really exist. Now, it's the characters that count. Three actors have portrayed Spider-Man and six have donned the Batman cowl for the big screen. Audiences have shown up for all of them. The Avengers may unite to huge box office returns but how much does it matter who's wearing the tights? Yet there is Cruise, trundling along as if the world hasn't changed at all. He's the last remaining global star who still only makes movies for movie theaters. He hasn't ventured into streaming. There is a moment in “Top Gun: Maverick” where Ed Harris, playing Maverick's superior, tells him, “The end is inevitable. Your kind is headed to extinction.” And Cruise, still holding on to that brash self-confidence that made him a movie star four decades ago, grins at him and replies, “Maybe so, sir. But not today.” There are plenty of people in the movie industry who hope he's right. Source article: https://udn.com/news/story/6904/6346289

Ambulance, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza González, had all the ingredients of a Michael Bay film: Beautiful cinematography Shaky camera work Fast editing Real stunts and action Extremely attractive people in everyday jobs. Just Because it has all the same ingredients as other classic Bay films such as The Rock, Transformers, or The Island, doesn't make the movie good. I think he left out a few eggs for something. I had a blast watching this movie, but not in the way it was intended. I don't remember the last time I laughed out loud so hard from my gut. The premise starts out strong and ripe for a Michael Bay film; a heist gone wrong, a cop shot, and the only way out is in the ambulance transporting said cop. They need to keep the officer alive, so they take a paramedic hostage, and chaos ensues. After this point, for me the logic of the movie never made sense, and made it difficult to take this movie seriously, at least as serious as you can take a Michael Bay movie. I knew going in that the action would be over the top, the camera would never stop moving, and actors would deliver lines like David Caruso on CSI (yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) What ultimately did it for me was the contradicting logic. These guys are fighting as hard as they can to keep this wounded officer alive because, if they become cop killers, they know there is no way they will make it out alive, or they'll go to prison for the rest of their life. But, during the pursuit, as police chase them around LA, they don't hold back on firing guns at helicopters and police cars, and ramming them off bridges at 70 miles per hour. Likewise, the Police keep saying they have to be careful because a brother in blue is on board, yet they use the harshest tactics that could easily kill everyone in the ambulance. The best way to describe this movie is like the video game Grand Theft Auto, with a 5 star wanted level. In the game the more “wanted” you are, the harder the police are on you. At 5 stars, swat and military come after you, and they're hell bent on killing you with extreme prejudice. The drone cinematography set this movie apart from other Michael Bay movies. Many shots featured stunning visuals, but some seemed unnecessary. I doubt this is the last we've seen of the excessive drone shots Occasionally I can get behind over the top action and illogical sequences, however, what ultimately hurt this film was its depiction of police violence, and violence on police. Our nation is divided right now with situations like what happened to George Floyd. And even in Tulsa, where the Brothers Brotastic are from, there's a controversial police encounter involving the shooting death of Terence Crutcher, as well as the death of Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson who's killer had been convicted the week we saw this movie. These situations, along with countless others across the nation made some scenes in Ambulance hard to watch, and they take you out of the movie at times. Andrew gives this movie 1 ticket; he's glad he saw the movie in theaters, but is not rushing to see this movie again anytime soon. Philip gives this movie 2 tickets; although he sees the flaws that Andrew sees, they are not enough to take him away from the joy and experience of seeing a Michael Bay movie on the Big Screen. He knew it was a movie filled with Bayhem and no much else, and it delivered.

Combining computer animation with live-action filming, with plenty of explosions and lens flare to excuse the awkward humour, Transformers is a true blockbuster. Directed by Michael Bay, Transformers is based on the franchise of the same name. Rewind to 2007 as this science fiction action film turns 15 years old. Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is a teenager who gets caught up in a war between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons, two factions of alien robots who can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery, primarily vehicles. The Autobots intend to retrieve and use the AllSpark, the powerful artefact that created their robotic race that is on Earth, to rebuild their home planet Cybertron and end the war, while the Decepticons have the intention of using it to build an army by giving life to the machines of Earth.

[School of Movies 2022] This is the start of our Rage Cage Season, celebrating the span of twelve months between Summer 1996 and Summer 1997 when Nicholas Cage was somehow the hottest action star of the age. He's quite appealingly low-key in this one, relative to the next two; Con Air and FACE/OFF. This is Michael Bay's best film. That's not hyperbole, it really is, in terms of how well-executed each set-piece is, how the momentum holds you without wearing you down, memorable performances, sympathetic characters and how the drama and human interaction functions surprisingly well.  I also consider it Sean Connery's swansong. Not his last film, but his last great film, as well as a backdoor Old Man Bond farewell. In fact, while you're listening to this episode you'll hear how the text of this film actively supports this being quite literally the same guy we saw in Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, all the way up to Diamonds are Forever.  Guests: Brenden Agnew @BLCAgnew of Cinapse From Sequentially Yours  Kaoru Negisa  @Moonpanther22 and Debbie Morse  @bastet8300

For this conversation we discuss what has changed in the entertainment industry over the past decade, and what it means for younger people starting their careers now versus back then. We also discuss how integral music editors are on films and television, and why Lorne wholly believes that every aspect of filmmaking is a team effort including scoring. We dive into Top Gun: Maverick and how Lorne worked with Harold Faltermeyer, Lady Gaga and Hans Zimmer on the music for the film. He shares how they had to adapt during the pandemic, and the key to making a team effort be cohesive to serve the story. Lorne also talks about how much of a fan he was of 90's action films especially those from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. We talk about our shared love for 90's action, and how Lorne is now working with people like Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer on different projects. We also talk about Lorne's scores to Bad Boys For Life, and how he made sure Mark Mancina's theme was front and center. Lorne also talks about working on Michael Bay's Ambulance.
