What does it take to go from the NFL to the boardroom—and bring your whole identity with you?In this live-recorded episode of The Rainmaker Podcast, I sit down with six-time Pro Bowler, TV personality, and entrepreneur Brandon Marshall for an unfiltered conversation about building a brand, breaking mental health stigma, and bridging the gap between content and commerce.Brandon opens up about the emotional complexity of navigating his relationship with the NFL after retirement, his personal journey with mental health, and the pivotal moment that transformed how he shows up in business and life. From hustling into locker rooms to creating I AM ATHLETE, he shares how he went from being under siege in his own brand to becoming a powerful media entity and mental health advocate. We talk about the power of purpose, how to structure brand deals with integrity, and why understanding your audience is everything. If you're ready for a bold, vulnerable, and wildly inspiring take on entrepreneurship and identity-driven marketing, this one's for you.About BrandonBrandon Marshall is the creator of the wildly successful unscripted podcast I AM ATHLETE and the newly launched daily show Paper Route.Within just a few seasons, the platform has grown to over 1 million YouTube subscribers—fueled by raw, real conversations around sports, culture, and identity. Co-hosted by Marshall and fellow former NFL stars, I AM ATHLETE is known for pushing boundaries and challenging the traditional definition of celebrity.A six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, Brandon spent 12 years in the NFL, where he shattered records and earned a reputation as one of the top wideouts in the game. But his impact didn't stop on the field. Brandon has become a powerful voice in the mental health space, using his personal journey to break stigma and drive change.Today, he's the founder and CEO of House of Athlete and HOA+, a lifestyle wellness brand built to help athletes of all levels train like pros—mentally and physically. Through his work, Brandon continues to redefine what it means to be an athlete, entrepreneur, and advocate.A two-time Emmy nominee for his role on Inside the NFL, Brandon has also been a recurring guest on The Drew Barrymore Show and is widely considered a pioneer in mental health awareness.Connect with BrandonInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bmarshall/?hl=enX: https://x.com/bmarshall?lang=hiYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@IAMATHLETEConnect with VeronicaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/vromney/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vromney/If you're serious about advancing your career in marketing and you're looking for some personal insights into how then I invite you to schedule a free Pathway to Promotion call with me: https://pathwaycall.com/If you found value in today's episode, I would appreciate it if you could leave a rating and review.
Star Wars: Beyond Victory #1, a Star Wars Celebration Japan exclusive, serves as a prequel for the upcoming MetaQuest Star Wars: Beyond Victory -- A Mixed-Reality Playset. The one-shot, written by Ethan Sacks, with art by Steven Cummings, Will Sliney, Shogo Aoki, Rachelle Rosenberg and VC's Joe Caramagna, sets up the story of Volo Bolus, a podracer with an eye toward the prize and who draws the attention of now-disgraced racer Sebulba (yep, the one from The Phantom Menace). What follows is a fast-paced race on Batuu, a solid backstory and a positioning for the gaming -- and storytelling -- to come in the Beyond Victory software.Whether the comic will get a wider release is unlikely, given specialty issues like these seldom do and we think it's unlikely a digital release or inclusion in a trade paperback isn't in the cards, either, meaning if you want to get a copy, the secondary market is poised to be your only choice. So far, 10 copies of have been sold on eBay, ranging from $25-$303. Another nine copies are still up for grabs, with prices ranging from $50-$219.We got our copy thanks to Kelly Knox, a writer of renown, and known for her work on the StarWars.com website. We're immensely grateful to her for acquiring a copy of the issue for us and sending it our way.Comics Discussed This Week:Star Wars: Beyond VIctory #1 Star Wars Comics New to Marvel Unlimited This Week:Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku -- Last Stand #4 (of 4)A New Legacy #1 One-ShotJedi Knights #1The High Republic -- Fear of the Jedi #1Legacy of Vader #1News: Free Comic Book Day is May 3 and features titles from Marvel (Star Wars) and Dark Horse (Young Jedi Adventures).Upcoming Star Wars comics, graphic novels and omnibuses:April 29 _ Crash Zone TPB (Collects Crash Landing, Crash and Burn and the 2025 The High Republic Adventures Phase III Annual), Crimson Reign Omnibus (Collects 1-5, Star Wars 19-25, Bounty Hunters 18-24, Darth Vader 18-24 and Doctor Aphra 16-21)April 30 _ The High Republic Adventures Phase III #17, The High Republic Adventures Phase III -- The Battle of Eriadu One-Shot, The High Republic -- Fear of the Jedi #3 (of 5), The Rise of Skywalker Adaptation #3 (of 5), Codebreaker #1 (of 4)May 3 _ Star Wars Free Comic Book Day #1, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Free Comic Book Day #1May 6 _ Star Wars: Ahsoka — Season One TPB (Collects 1-8), Darth Maul: Black, White & Red Treasury Editions (Collects 1-4)May 7 _ Star Wars (Vol. IV) #1, The Bad Batch -- Ghost Agents #3 (of 5)May 14 _Jedi Knights #3May 20 _ The High Republic Adventures Phase III Vol. 3 TPB (Collects 11-13, Wedding Spectacular One-Shot)May 21 _ The High Republic Adventures Phase III #18, Legacy of Vader #4, The High Republic — Fear of the Jedi #4 (of 5)May 28 _ The Rise of Skywalker Adaptation #4 (of 5)June 3 _ The Battle of Jakku TPB (Collects Insurgency Rising 1-4, Republic Under Seige 1-4, Last Stand 1-4)June 4 _ Jedi Knights #4, The High Republic — Fear of the Jedi #5 (of 5)June 11 _ Star Wars #2, The Rise of Skywalker adapation #5 (of 5), The Bad Batch -- Ghost Agents #4 (of 5)June 17 _ Star Wars Legends: The Rebellion Omnibus Vol. 3 (Collects Star Wars: Shadow Stalker (1997) 1, Star Wars: Rebel Heist (2014) 1-4, Star Wars: A Valentine Story (2003) 1, Classic Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1994) 1-2, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire (1996) 1-6, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire Mini-comic (1996) 1-2, Star Wars: Tales From Mos Eisley (1996) 1, Star Wars: The Bounty Hunters – Scoundrel's Wages (1999) 1, Classic Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1994) 1-2, Star Wars: Tag & Bink Are Dead (2001) 2, Star Wars: Tag & Bink II (2006) 1, Sergio Aragones Stomps Star Wars (2000) 1, Star Wars Infinities: The Empire Strikes Back (2002) 1-4, Star Wars Infinities: Return of the Jedi (2003) 1-4; The mental health of our teenage population is crucial to the well-being and future of our nation. Today, I'm here to provide a status report on the state of this mission. According to the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs, while many adolescents experience positive mental health, an estimated 49.5 percent of adolescents have had a mental health disorder at some point in their lives. Promoting positive mental health can prevent some of these problems. Austin Davis is a leader in teenage behavioral health and addiction treatment, dedicating over 15 years to transforming the lives of teens and their families. He uses the power of faith in the recovery process to help his clients become healthy and happy members of their community. Austin is the founder and CEO of Clearfork Academy, a prominent treatment center in Texas for troubled teens. His commitment to teen mental health makes him a leading figure in the industry. He has spoken to parents, community health professionals, educators, and teens nationwide, sharing insights on effective treatment methodologies, the importance of mental health awareness, and the power of faith in the recovery process. Austin earned a Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Ministry from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, and furthered his education with a Master of Arts in Counseling from The Church of God Theological Seminary. This education laid the foundation for his professional journey in clinical counseling and church ministry. When he's not helping teens or serving his community, he spends time with his wife and three kids, plays guitar, and enjoys the outdoors. For more information: https://clearforkacademy.com/
In 2016, while earning his doctorate in music at the University of Southern California, Alexander Lloyd Blake founded the choral group Tonality. His initial aim was to create a choral ensemble that would represent and celebrate the full diversity of Los Angeles' population. That done, Tonality started to focus each concert on social-justice issues, from global warming to gun violence, always providing audiences with an array of resources to encourage activism and change.Tonality's repertoire is as varied as its membership, ranging from Gregorian chant to contemporary pieces in a variety of styles and genres, but Alex's commitment to harnessing the power of choral music to foment social change has remained central. In just eight years, Tonality has garnered nationwide attention. In 2020 Tonality received the Chorus America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, and in 2022 Alex and Tonality's work were featured on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” They've released two albums, and just this past spring, Tonality won its first Grammy for performing on composer Carla Patullo's album “So She Howls.” The ensemble has collaborated with a number of world-renowned composers, including Reena Esmail and Michael Giacchino, and has performed with such artists as Pete Townsend, Lara Downes and Björk. They have also sung for TV and film soundtracks, including “Space Jam: a New Legacy.”Here Alex explains what led him to found Tonality and details the intricacies of leading a choral ensemble that has to remain increasingly nimble and focused.https://www.ourtonality.org/https://alexanderlblake.com/

Mental Wealth, Leave a New Legacy. In this episode, Katie and Laura dive into some essential topics that many of us can relate to. Join us as we explore:
In this episode of the Top of Mind podcast, Mike Simonsen sits down with Mike McNamara, co-founder and CEO of Samara, to talk about all things ADUs. ADUs, or accessory dwelling units, are small, self-contained residential units located on the same lot as an existing single-family home. You might know them as “granny flats” or “in-laws” or even “casitas.” And given the housing affordability crisis in our country, ADUs are starting to really gain traction as a potential solution for this. Mike gives us a primer on ADUs and why they hold so much promise for solving many of America's housing challenges. About Mike McNamara Mike McNamara is the co-founder and CEO of Samara, a company that aims to improve the way we live, starting by holistically reimagining the home. Samara aspires to a brighter future through beautifully-designed products that balance comfort, sustainability, and simplicity. In 2020, McNamara was tapped by Joe Gebbia to lead an innovation team inside Airbnb. In 2022, the innovation team was moved out of Airbnb and reborn as Samara. Prior to Airbnb, McNamara spent 13 years as the CEO of Flex, a Fortune 500 company in the electronics manufacturing industry. Alongside the executive team, he grew the company to over 200,000 employees in 30 countries and generated over $25B in revenue. McNamara served as a Board member of MEMC (energy), Delphi (automotive), Flex (manufacturing and technology) and Slack (enterprise software). Dr. Willis discusses the 'Four Horsemen' mindset—pain, blame, shame, and avoidance—as prevalent yet harmful tactics often used in parenting. Far from settling for stable misery, she stresses the importance of recognizing our triggers, modifying our internal narratives, and developing new tools for healthier interactions with our loved ones. I talk about my warrior's call, as a young soldier in Iraq on my first deployment, and I give my best advice to help young leaders stretch themselves in pursuit of their dreams. Zoon Nguyen's life journey is nothing short of remarkable, shaped by courage, determination, and a deep sense of purpose. Born in Vietnam, he found his way to the United States at a young age, thanks to his grandfather's service during the Vietnam War. The transition to a new country wasn't easy, but Zoon was fortunate to have a supportive community around him that helped him adapt and thrive. Growing up, Zoon's father worked tirelessly to provide for the family, leaving little time for emotional connections. This led Zoon to seek a path where he could learn valuable life lessons and become a strong, self-reliant individual. He saw the military as the perfect opportunity to do just that and enlisted in the Navy along with his friends after high school. After serving his country with pride and honor, Zoon ventured into different career paths, starting with car sales before realizing his passion for technology and starting his own IT business. But destiny had more in store for him. As he pursued his newfound interest in photography and videography, Zoon discovered a way to channel his creativity and passion into a force for good. In 2017, Zoon founded the New Legacy brand, pledging to donate a portion of every sale to Feeding America. The venture enabled him to provide 17,000 meals to those in need, but he didn't stop there. Inspired by the desire to make an even greater impact, Zoon envisioned an audacious goal - raising enough funds to provide one million meals. This ambitious undertaking motivated him to push his limits, leading to the decision to run from California to New York, a dream inspired by the iconic character Forrest Gump. The New Legacy run is set to begin on March 1st, 2024, covering approximately 20 miles a day over 150 days. It's not just a solo endeavor; Zoon invites the world to join him, be it as sponsors, running partners, or simply supporters. He understands the power of a united effort and how a team environment can propel individuals to achieve greater heights. For Zoon, life's journey has been an energy transfer, continuously giving and receiving inspiration from the people around him. His experiences have taught him the value of seizing opportunities, being unafraid to take risks, and embracing a fearless mindset. If he were to offer advice to his younger self, it would be to shake hands and put himself out there, for in connecting with others lies the potential for transformative growth. Having experienced heartache with the end of a significant relationship, Zoon used his pain as fuel to become better and help others. He believes that courage comes from confronting fear head-on and embracing the possibilities that unfold when we shed self-doubt. As he embarks on the monumental run across the country, Zoon is a living testament to the incredible things that can be achieved when fear is cast aside and dreams are pursued wholeheartedly. Zoon Nguyen's story is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the extraordinary impact one individual can make when they choose to embrace their passions and use their strengths to uplift others. His journey is a reminder that the pursuit of a dream, no matter how audacious, can serve as a catalyst for positive change on a grand scale. Through the New Legacy run, Zoon is poised to create a lasting legacy, providing nourishment for the body and soul, and inspiring countless others to turn their dreams into reality. What You'll Learn: What life skills Zoon took away from the military. How your relationships can be holding you back. The 3 ways you can support Zoon's mission. And much more! Favorite Quote: “A lot of entrepreneurs, when they first get into business, they do everything themselves; for me, it's always a team effort.” -Zoon Nguyen Connect with Zoon: Miles For Meals Instagram YouTube How to Get Involved: Get podcasting help here.
