Your Stupid Minds returns to the ninja movie well in our futile attempt to find a bad one. Surely the huge flop reboot based on toys will do the trick, right? Right? It's 2021's Snake Eyes: G.I. Origins. Snake Eyes (Henry Golding) witnesses his father's murder as a child, and he vows to get big and buff and seek revenge. When evil Yakuza guy Kenta (Takehiro Hira) says he'll give him his father's killer if he works for him, Snake Eyes agrees. It begins when he's asked to execute a traitor in the gang's midst, who turns out to be Tommy (Andrew Koji) heir to the Arashikage ninja clan. I can't get into much more without spoiling the plot, so let's just say there are some cool ninja fights and a glowing jewel that vaporizes dudes. And of course Cobra is involved.

We were delighted to have the ART NINJA Ricky Martin join us this week to talk about craft storage solutions, the responsibility of being a beloved childhood icon, cardboard horror movies, his experiences with ADHD and much more. Ricky presented an art themed sitcom for CBBC between 2015 and 2019, making 55 episodes and reaching and inspiring thousands of children to create their own works, including all of the Dads kids (whether they knew it or not). We review 'Day Of The Baby' and 'Day Of The Not Quite Christmas', episodes selected by Reegs's kids. For most people the joy of painting purely to express yourself is confined to childhood which seems like a terrific shame given the enjoyment it can give you. I myself love dipping my brush, priming my canvas and applying my strokes. Oh and I also quite like painting. This week's Top 5 sees us discussing the very best of Paintings in movies and tv, and in doing my research this week I discovered the urban dictionary definition for painting, which I am far too polite to repeat here. I had high hopes for SNAKE EYES: GI JOE ORIGINS in that it was literally the only ninja movie I could find that had a reasonably recent mainstream release in the last 1 to 10 years which is either a damning indictment of my research skills or an illustration of the paucity of the modern ninja film movement. Henry Golding stars as the titular swordsman, destined as we know to wear the cool costume and to sell millions of toys but what you probably didn't expect was that this was going to be a dissection of the motivation and consequences of revenge featuring acrobatic combat, neon-soaked Tokyo backdrops, an energetic camera, an ambiguous hero and three giant homicidal anacondas. I'm not going to say this is unmissable but it is the kind of thing that were you searching for a recently released Ninja movie for a specially themed week of a podcast you co-host, and you chose this and you had to watch it and you maybe weren't that enthused about it and it turned out to be pretty good actually, with well-staged fights and richer thematic content than you had expected you would be pretty pleased. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. Try us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review or on our website baddadsfilm.com. Until next time, we remain...
By abandoning the character's main appeal and failing to deliver proper action, this movie is likely the end of another G.I. franchise, not the beginning. Read more at: https://scottsself-indulgentmovieblog.blogspot.com/
Snake Eyes is pure bad ass, and that is ALL... But seriously, the G.I. Joe series has been a bit all over the place for two whole films, but I was hoping this would get shit back on track to where it should be. I actually love the first as a guilty pleasure and the second as a bad ass/less wacky follow up, but I knew this would be different. So let's see if the dice roll the right way for the origin story of the most popular Joe. Enjoy, folks.

SNAKE EYES: G.I. JOE ORIGINS is a thrilling action adventure reboot of the G.I. Joe franchise created by Hasbro Toys and Marvel Comics. The movie opens with a young boy watches a man kill his father. Years later, the boy is obsessed with getting revenge on his father's killer. Calling himself Snake Eyes, he earns a living in underground fighting. A Japanese gangster recruits Snake Eyes to help him defeat the Japanese ninja clan that kicked him out of their clan, in exchange for the man who killed his father.
Nick and Foxx are back in their first ever two movie review episode. The Opening Scene today features a question regarding Spin-Offs and if they are worthwhile if they're not as good as the original property. We then move on to trailer talk (8:55) which includes some very exciting movies, such as King Richard, Venom 2 and Shang Chi. (34:45) Snake Eyes is first up for the review, as Nick and Foxx both found it very underwhelming. The movie played out like a generic action movie with poor directorial decisions, even though it seemed as though the cast gave it their best effort. NICK: 43 FOXX: 55 (59:48) We then move onto Old, which is the latest M. Night movie. The movie starts off very well, keeping viewers entertained with the looming mystery and feeling of no escape. However, in true M. Night fashion, they twist gets played and completely takes out the viewer, leaving you dissatisfied with what was otherwise a good movie. NICK: 60 FOXX: 65
