The man planting that tree collects nothing — not the shade, not the fruit, not the thanks; the reward arrives after he is gone. Strip away every selfish reason and what's left, if the work still gets done, can only be love. And the proof needs no one's word: a hundred years on you walk into the field and the shade is there, or it isn't. He had to plant it in advance — you cannot grow shade in the hour you need it. That is fatherhood, and it is the whole architecture: commit before the outcome, build the constraint before the test, leave proof a stranger can check. Tell me what you need, and I'll tell you who owns you. Need is the quiet lever every system of power runs on: manufacture a need, stand between someone and it, and you never have to compete again. Most of what you're told you "need" is just someone's checkpoint wearing the costume of necessity — a token, a platform, a permission. Sovereignty isn't accumulation; it's needing less.
