Hi! I’m Braley, the host of Blooming Beyond Borders-a podcast dedicated to exploring what it means to grow. How can we empathize, explore and empower by walking towards the things that scare us? This podcast will be a mix of solo episodes and conversation
Everyone has heard of the Myers Briggs personality type indicator and I'm sure most of you have heard of Jungian psychology. (+Jungian typology) But what about The Enneagram? It is another system of personality typing that helps understand how people interpret the world and their emotions. It describes nine personality types based on their core beliefs, desires and fears. What's different about the Enneagram is that you and only you can figure out what type you are. Because the Enneagram is based on motivations and not behaviors, it allows you to discover parts of yourself that you may not have known (or wanted to admit) existed. On Blooming Beyond Borders, the focus is on personal growth, so I'm always looking for interesting topics that challenge us and help us grow; the Enneagram is by far one of the most useful tools for doing just that. Join me and my dear friends Esther Duncan and Turiya Warman in discussing all of the Enneagram basics you'll need to understand in order to start your self discovery journey. In this episode, we go through some general questions people may have about this personality typing system. How does it work? How do we become our personality types, and can they change over time? Turiya and Esther also go into each personality type (6-9 on this part TWO) so that you have a better understanding of all 9 types' core fears, desires, traits, and more. Let's get blooming with the Enneagram! Do you ever feel guilty for resting? Do you tend to put your chores, work or general need for productivity before your own self care? Then let's talk about Internalized Capitalism. What is it, anyway? And how does it happen? In this episode on Blooming Beyond Borders, I go way deep into the depths of this sneaky, subconscious epidemic (dramatic but totally accurate) and try to find ways in which we can become aware and hopefully begin to reverse the effects of IC. Although this one's a "heady" one, you don't want to miss it. This is a topic that is so incredibly important for us all to educate ourselves on and continue asking questions and having conversations about. Let's get blooming! *I will soon be writing a post on my blog to support this episode as well, so stay tuned for that!
After a few months of a break, I'm back with an exciting new episode on INTIMACY. What is it, really? And why does it seem so hard to develop and maintain? I started to really wonder if this word means what we think it means, and after reaching out to some listeners, friends, and family members, along with some books and the internet, I began to collect some experiences and beliefs surrounding intimacy. I asked 6 questions to try and uncover the myths, expectations, and importances of this word, and I hope you enjoy listening to what I've found. Follow @bloomingbeyondborders on Instagram and let me know what you think! Let's get blooming.
Lisa is a singer/songwriter, a lover of nature and a fierce warrior for women. (Among many MANY other things.) In this episode on Blooming Beyond Borders, I ask Lisa about her journey with music that eventually led her to start duo Wintervals with her partner Trevor Walker. After touring the East Coast and later deciding to end the Wintervals chapter, Lisa tells us about their choice to evolve into a new sound and energy that is now called Phibian. (I will link their bands down below!) She doesn't just use her voice to sing, though-she is a vocal protector and advocate for justice, especially for justice of women. As her friend, it has been refreshing and empowering to experience her stand up for what is right time and time again. We also talk about struggling with being called "husky" throughout our childhoods, why we should start taking "the sexy" out of everything, and what kinds of positive things we can do to promote self love and acceptance. Please enjoy this impactful conversation with Lisa and let's get blooming! 'Till next time. In this week's episode, I'm on my own thinking about what it means to be creative, and if we all, in fact, have that living breathing creativity inside of us that is waiting to be uncovered. As I am currently asking myself these questions about my own personal relationship with creativity, I thought it would be valuable to share. I use two books to help us get to the bottom of what it means to be an artist. (Though of course there are plenty of good ones out there.) Big Magic, by Elizabeth Gilbert, is a wonderful read that explores the limits that we and society create that inhibit ourselves from making our art, how to give ourselves permission to create, and the notion that fear and excitement must coexist when it comes to taking risks for our creative selves. The second book is more of a course, called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. This is a book that is often said to be a tool for creative self recovery, and it adds a more spiritual mindset as well. There is a regular book version and a workbook that goes along. I have the workbook. It is a 12 week course that includes reading material, quotes, tasks, check-ins, in addition to the daily morning pages (stream of consciousness writing) and the weekly artist's date. Join me in questioning these ideas, whether you believe yourself to be a creative person or not. (But I stand with these two authors and will state that you ARE.) I will link these two books down below and hope you feel like creating something after listening to this episode! Let's get blooming.

On this week's episode, Alicia Cook and I sit on her comfy couch and discuss why it's so hard for the both of us to find motivation in our daily lives, what we've learned about coping with anxiety, our views on empathy and boundaries, and of course, how to practice and experience self growth in a loving, nurturing way. Both growing up in small town North Carolina, there is a familiarity to this conversation that felt like home- just two dear friends talking about all the ways in which we struggle and how we are learning to acknowledge and communicate our own personal needs more and more each day. Enjoy, and keep on blooming!
***Trigger Warning*** -This episode discusses how using weight as a goal is not healthy and could be possibly triggering for those with histories of ED's. Now that we're a week into 2021, I thought it would be good to talk about finding balance between loving ourselves as is and improving as we want and need. There is an extremely problematic mentality surrounding the New Year's Resolution and I'm here to debunk it. We can set goals and intentions for ourselves, but they have to come from a healthy mindset purely meant for our own well being and growth, and not for others' benefits. In this episode, I talk about ways to go about setting these intentions, some ideas on how to maintain them in a healthy way, and some of my own goals for this year. We all got through 2020 and we should be SO. PROUD. We can applaud ourselves and still continue to grow and learn from everything that's been happening within ourselves and externally. Listen along and let's get blooming. HAPPY END OF 2020!
This week's episode is a little different. To ring in the New Year, I thought it would be fitting to share this conversation I had with my two younger sisters. At 7 and 11 years old, Laurel and Lily offer a fresh new perspective on what living with Covid19 in the US is like and give us some hope by focusing on the things that matter. (Connection to other people and the Earth is what the overall theme leaned towards.) We sing songs and talk about some serious subjects and some not so serious subjects. Speaking with kids is always a good way to open up ourselves a little bit more to the simple things, and I hope this does just that. Happy 2021, folks!
This week we welcome Turiya Warman, an Ayurvedic Nutrition and Lifestyle Therapist, massage therapist, meditation teacher and chef living in Edinburgh, Scotland. In this episode, we talk about so many things ranging from Turiya's own self care regimens and how she practices awareness in her daily life., all the way into the armour we all tend to use at times to protect ourselves and what it feels like to take them off! We talk a bit about Ayurveda and the Enneagram, meditation, the benefits of journaling, and finding our creative selves again. This week's conversation is one for the books, as it dives deeply into all aspects of self awareness and self exploration. Let's get blooming. Thanks, Turiya! This week on Blooming Beyond Borders I talk about the importance of spending time on our own. Sometimes self care can look like more solitude, and sometimes it can look like less. The important part is HOW we spend that time. I talk about the struggle I have had with this topic and how easy it is for us to turn to external people or things instead of going inward. It's a whole lot harder, with a whole more benefits in the end. Let's talk about how we can begin to cultivate joy and excitement around spending quality time with ourselves and in turn, making our lives a little bit brighter and fuller.
In this week's first conversations episode on Blooming Beyond Borders, my partner Flo and I sit down, get cozy and talk about some of his personal growth journeys. Florian is a mountain guide, a trail runner, rock climber, and explorer of all things that combine the wilderness and testing his body and mind. From hitchhiking across England and Scotland to taking part in a (crazy?) 21 day fast, we get into what stepping out of his comfort zone has meant to him. Whether you're interested in meditation, curious about fasting, or simply intrigued by all the different ways in which we can challenge ourselves to grow- this conversation with Flo is for you. It sure was fun to make. :)
On this first official episode of Blooming Beyond Borders, I give you some personal info about who I am and why I felt so inspired to start a podcast dedicated to personal growth. I also go into the three E's-empathy, exploration and empowerment-and how I think those words can change our perspective on growth within ourselves and throughout the world. Let's get Blooming, folks!
Hi! Welcome to Blooming Beyond Borders, a podcast dedicated to personal growth. I'm here to introduce this exciting new project, what topics I'll be covering, and to share a little bit about who I am. :)
