The Anchor of the Soul Genesis 31 Speaker: Dr. Weston Brown Series: Genesis More info @ covenantshreveport.org Genesis 31 tells the story of Jacob's tense departure from Laban's household, a story filled with deception, fear, and fragile peace. Yet beneath the chaos runs a deeper truth: God remains faithful to His covenant even when His people are not. He protects, provides, and preserves His promise. Through this passage, we see: The God who keeps His covenant: His promises stand firm even in our weakness. The God who protects His covenant people: His presence shields and sustains us. The God who establishes peace through covenant, pointing us to Christ, the true Mediator of a better and eternal covenant. Just as an anchor holds a ship fast beneath stormy waters, God's covenant holds our souls secure through every uncertainty of life. In Christ, the fragile truces of human promise are replaced by unshakable peace and everlasting hope.

Session 2: Unity in Marriage (Philippians 2:14–16) In this second session of our Marriage Conference series, we build on the foundation of humility and turn to Paul's words in Philippians 2:14–16: “Do all things without grumbling or disputing.” If humility is the soil where unity grows, then grumbling and disputing are the termites that destroy it. In marriage, it's not usually the big dramatic blowups that erode intimacy, but the quiet complaints, the sarcastic remarks, the constant need to be right. Left unchecked, these patterns corrode trust and turn covenant love into competition. In this message, we'll look at why Paul takes grumbling so seriously, how it undermines unity in marriage, and what it means to replace a spirit of complaint with a posture of gratitude. Along the way, you'll find practical tools to handle disagreements with grace, speak words that build up instead of tear down, and pursue a shared purpose in Christ. Unity in marriage isn't about uniformity—it's about harmony, two voices tuned to the same key: the gospel of Jesus Christ. As husbands and wives hold fast to the Word of Life, their marriages become a testimony of light in a world that desperately needs to see the love of Christ.

Parenting Lecture: Building a Gospel-Centered Home Speaker: Dr. Weston Brown September 2025 In this lecture, we explore what it means to build a gospel-centered home, a household that functions as a kingdom embassy, where Christ's reign shapes marriage, parenting, and everyday life. We'll unpack the dangers of legalism, abdication, and moralism, and consider how to cultivate a family culture marked by grace, truth, worship, forgiveness, and joy. Parenting is gospel ministry, and God calls us to model His grace daily as we disciple our children. Join us as we learn how to make our homes radiant with the gospel in a world full of competing voices. Session 3: Pursuing Peace in Marriage (Philippians 4:4–9) In this final session of our Marriage Conference series, we turn to Philippians 4:4–9 and explore what it means to pursue peace in marriage. We've seen how humility lays the foundation (Phil. 2:1–8) and unity grows when we put away grumbling and disputing (Phil. 2:14–16). Now Paul shows us the fruit of that process: peace. But peace doesn't just happen—it must be pursued. Drawing from Paul's words, written from a prison cell, we'll discover that peace isn't about circumstances going smoothly at home, but about letting Christ rule in our hearts and marriages. Together, we'll look at five calls for every couple: The call to rejoice in the Lord, even when circumstances disappoint. The call to reasonableness, cultivating gentleness instead of harshness. The call to prayer, turning anxiety into dependence on God. The call to renew our minds, focusing on what is true, pure, and commendable. The call to practice daily habits of peace, knowing the God of peace Himself will be with us. This session will help you see how peace flows from the gospel: forgiven people forgive, reconciled people reconcile, loved people love. And as you actively pursue peace together, your marriage becomes a living testimony that Christ Himself is present in your home.

Session 1: Humility in Marriage (Philippians 2:1–8) Marriage is the union of two sinners, which means pride is always lurking at the door. In this first session of our 2025 Marriage Conference, we turn to Philippians 2:1–8—not a marriage passage on the surface, but a goldmine for learning what it means to love like Christ. Scripture tells us that humility is not optional; it is the very oxygen of a healthy, God-honoring marriage. In this message, we'll see how our earthly marriages are meant to reflect the greater heavenly marriage between Christ and His bride, the church. We'll explore why pride is the greatest enemy of unity, how Jesus' self-emptying humility becomes the pattern for our own, and what practical steps we can take to serve, listen, and love one another with the mind of Christ. Whether you're newly married, seasoned in marriage, or preparing for marriage, this session will help you see how the gospel of grace transforms the way husbands and wives live together.

Waking Up To Leah Genesis 29:1-30 Speaker: Weston Brown Series: Genesis More info @ covenantshreveport.org In Genesis 29:1–30 we see Jacob arrive at a well, fall in love at first sight with Rachel, and then discover on his wedding day that the deceiver has himself been deceived. What looks like a family drama filled with trickery and heartbreak is actually a powerful display of God's providence at work. In this sermon, we trace how God uses even sin, rivalry, and disappointment to accomplish His purposes—bringing forth the twelve tribes of Israel, and ultimately the line of Christ through Leah, the unloved wife. Along the way we'll consider what this story teaches us about repentance and faith, about marriage, and about Christ, the true Bridegroom who gave His life for His people. If you've ever wondered how God can redeem brokenness, or how the gospel shines through even the messiest parts of Scripture, this passage is for you.

Jesus Christ: The Ladder to Heaven Genesis 28:10-22 Speaker: Weston Brown Series: Genesis More info @ covenantshreveport.org When Jacob hit rock bottom—alone, guilty, and on the run—God showed up in the wilderness with a vision that changed everything. In Genesis 28, we see a God who meets us at our lowest, reveals His presence and promises, and points us to Christ, the true ladder between heaven and earth. If you've ever felt lost, restless, or weighed down by guilt, this passage reminds us that God's grace meets us right where we are and calls us to respond in worship and trust.

Jacob's Deception and the Merit of Christ Genesis 27 Speaker: Weston Brown Series: Genesis More info @ covenantshreveport.org This week we return to the story of Jacob and Esau in Genesis 27, where deception, favoritism, and broken family dynamics unfold. At first glance, it looks like a tragedy of human failure—but behind it all stands the sovereign hand of God. This passage confronts our cultural obsession with fairness and merit, reminding us that God's purposes are not based on human effort, birth order, or morality, but on His sovereign mercy. Drawing from Romans 9, Ephesians 2, and Exodus 34, we see that God's choice of Jacob was not because he was better than Esau, but because of God's unchanging character and grace. The good news for us is the same: salvation does not rest on our merit, but on the righteousness of Christ credited to us by faith. Genesis 27 is not a manual for moral living—it's a portrait of how grace invades our dysfunction and how the blessing comes only through the Son who took our place.
