What happens when you take a centuries-old, traditional industry and inject it with vibrant color? This week, Cassie sits down with Alice Carroll, Co-Founder of Foxes Bow Irish Whiskey, to discuss the art of strategic disruption. Alice breaks down her journey from "stealthily stealing secrets" at major whiskey multinationals to launching an independent brand that refuses to play by the rules. We explore how being the "only woman at the table" became her greatest creative advantage, the tactical data she used to get retailers to say "yes" to a non-traditional design, and why she believes distinctiveness is more valuable than differentiation in 2026. Whether you're an entrepreneur in a "stiff" industry or a marketer struggling to find your authentic voice on camera, Alice's "warts-and-all" approach to brand building is the shot of inspiration you need.Key Takeaways:// Why looking at adjacent industries (and what your target audience follows on Instagram) is more effective than looking at your direct competitors when designing a brand.// How Alice leveraged her perspective as an "outsider" in a male-dominated category to spot the massive white space that legacy brands were too risk-averse to touch.// How to use consumer research and "hard facts" about audience pain points to convince conservative stakeholders to approve bold, eclectic designs.// The secret to building a brand that is instantly recognizable on any shelf or social feed, regardless of the context.// Why Alice is betting on a 2026 trend toward vibrancy, color, and "social middle-ground" wellness over the beige, minimalist extremes of recent years.// Why "boring" behind-the-scenes failures (like 20 misprinted billboards) often drive more engagement and trust than polished, high-production brand content.// Advice for the "camera-shy" on how to park your ego and let your audience's engagement dictate your content strategy.Connect with Alice: InstagramLearn More About Foxes Bow: Website____Join the MHH Collective! Today, we're speaking to Dr Karol Basta, a Public Health Registrar based in London.Title of paper: Predictors of Childhood Vaccination Uptake and Timeliness in a Diverse Urban PopulationAvailable at: https://doi.org/10.3399/BJGP.2025.0319Childhood vaccination rates have declined in the UK, with inequalities in urban, deprived, and ethnically diverse populations. Previous studies have lacked individual-level clinical data or did not explore both uptake and timeliness. We analysed 13 years of routinely collected primary care data for over 37,000 children in a diverse London borough to identify predictors of uptake and timeliness. Distinct sociodemographic and clinical factors were associated with incomplete and delayed vaccination, offering timely insights as responsibility for vaccination services shifts closer to local systems and place-based commissioning.TranscriptThis transcript was generated using AI and has not been reviewed for accuracy. Please be aware it may contain errors or omissions.Speaker A00:00:00.880 - 00:00:52.000Hi and welcome to BJJP Interviews. I'm Nada Khan and I'm one of the associate editors of the Journal. Thanks for taking the time to listen to this podcast today. In today's episode, we're speaking to Dr. Carol Basta.Carol is a public health registrar based in London and we're here to talk about the paper she's recently published here in the bjgp, which is titled Predictors of Childhood Vaccination Uptake and Timeliness in a Diverse Urban Population. So, hi, Carol, it's really lovely to meet you and to talk about this work. And I guess just to start, I wanted to put this work into context. We know that in the uk, overall childhood vaccination rates have unfortunately been declining. Could you talk us through some of the current challenges around vaccination, especially in urban and diverse areas?Speaker B00:00:52.720 - 00:02:06.750Yep. So we know vaccinations are really powerful and cost effective tools we have in giving children the best start in life life. But unfortunately, in the UK, since 2012, the uptake has been declining and actually since 2021, none of the vaccines in England have reached the 95% target recommended by the WHO to stop communicable disease outbreaks. And the kind of negative consequences of this aren't just sort of future hypothetical risks. We've already been seeing vaccine preventable diseases such as measles and whooping cough resurgences, and this is especially in certain parts of the uk, such as London or the northwest of England. So no uptake of vaccines is decreasing and vaccine preventable diseases are increasing. But that's not the full picture. We also know, for example, following work done by, at the time, Public health England in 2017, there are avoidable inequalities across the childhood vaccination program nationally, for example, linked to deprivation, geography and ethnicity. However, what was missing was really kind of contemporary granular evidence on the social and clinical factors associated with unequal vaccine outcomes, especially in diverse urban environments.Speaker A00:02:06.990 - 00:02:16.670And I know this was highlighted as well during COVID but there is a mistrust of health services amongst some communities as well, which might be playing into this.Speaker B00:02:17.470 - 00:03:11.120Yeah, exactly. So at the time when I was working in Lamb of Council, we knew qualitatively from talking to our community and talking to our local GP partners, that there was kind of sense of rising mistrust in healthcare services, but...

Oxytocin has become known for having anti-anxiety and affiliative behavioral effects. That's why clinicians and researchers are excited about using oxytocin as a potential therapeutic. Brian Trainor is a professor at UC Davis, and his lab has been studying this complexity for the past decade. For an animal model, they work with a territorial, aggressive, monogamous rodent species called California mice. If the male is removed and the female is forced to defend their nest, she will experience what's known as social defeat, and she will exhibit what's called inhibited affiliative behavior, the type that can be affected by oxytocin — and this effect can be studied in a mouse's brain.Read the full study here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41386-026-02352-y Hosted on Acast. Speaker: Rob BerrethScripture: Matthew 5:10–16Episode Overview:In Matthew 5:10–16, Jesus declares that His people are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. This message explores what that identity means in a culture shaped by Christian influence yet increasingly untethered from Christ Himself. The church's strength has never come from blending in, grasping for power, or retreating in fear. It has come from embodying the Beatitudes—poverty of spirit, mercy, purity, peacemaking—and living distinctly in the world for the glory of the Father.Drawing on insights from The Air We Breathe by Glen Scrivener and historical reflections like Dominion by Tom Holland, this sermon considers how Christian convictions have shaped society—and why remaining faithful to Jesus still matters. When believers stay salty and let their light shine, some will be drawn to glorify the Father. Others may resist. Yet Christ's kingdom advances, and He promises blessing to those who are harassed for righteousness' sake.Key Highlights:• Identity before influence – Salt and light flow from the transformed character described in the Beatitudes.• Distinct, not diluted – The church is most potent when it is truly different from the surrounding culture.• Faithful presence – Neither compromise nor retreat fulfills Jesus' call; we are sent into the world without becoming shaped by it.• Wisdom in a polarized age – Christian faithfulness often defies easy political categories, following Christ above all.• Expect both fruit and friction – Some will glorify God because of faithful witness; others may respond with opposition.• Unshakeable hope – The risen Christ builds His church, and no resistance can overturn His kingdom.Call to Action:Ask the Lord to search your life. Where have you grown dim or lost your saltiness? Repent where needed. Re-anchor yourself in Scripture. Pray for courage to speak with grace and truth. Look for one concrete place—at work, at school, in your neighborhood, in your home—where you can shine distinctly for Christ this week. Step forward in humble confidence, trusting that faithfulness in small acts carries eternal weight.Redeemer Church211 Northshore Dr. Bellingham, WA 98226www.redeemernw.org

The Colonisation of Language: A Phraseology in Five Parts explores, in a broad sense, aspects of oral storytelling and how the influence of colonisation can corrupt language and the sense of an origin story through multiple iterations over time. In much of my sound work, I'm drawn to the spoken word, and was immediately drawn to the characteristics within the vocal utterances contained in the 1962 original field recording by Raymond Clausen of a Navel-Miel performance accompanied by shaken rattles and seed pods from Malekula, Vanuatu. Selecting snippets of these utterances with some of the percussive elements, I created a speculative language to run alongside the opening paragraph of the Brothers Grimm tale, Rapunzel (1812). I assigned an utterance to each word in the story and developed a version of this story "spoken" in this speculative language. Distinct phrases contained within the original narration are repeated and ‘corrupted' through unlikely juxtapositions of these set phrases over the length of the work. I chose Rapunzel as my source tale due to its allusion to industry and exploitation, especially within its opening paragraphs, as both key activities of colonial intervention. Although the tale of Rapunzel can be read through many lenses, this selection, I felt was critical to situate the conceptual approach of the composition more solidly within this framework and make clearer my intent. Further to this, I included the familiar and Western story-telling trope, “Once upon a time”, which doesn't appear in Rapunzel's original form, to open each of the five parts. The voice which narrates the opening of Rapunzel in English, is an AI-generated voice. All instrumentation, apart from the AI-generated narration, is sourced directly from the original 1962 field recording and modified through extensive processing and effects. No DAW stock beats or sounds were used in the composition. On reflection, incorporating AI into this work, also adds another layer of critique and meaning to The Colonisation of Language: A Phraseology in Five Parts. Using the opening paragraphs and set phrases of Rapunzel as my language model, also interrogates AI's compilation process and corruption of meaning when AI is forced to draw on a singular set language model for its output. How many iterations from a set model, does it take to output only diabolical errors in sense and meaning, thereby compromising the integrity of heritage? Navel-Miel performance with rattle and seed pods reimagined by Kenneth Lyons.———Part of the project A Century of Sounds, reimagining 100 sounds covering 100 years from the collections of the Pitt Rivers Museum at the University of Oxford. Notes:Dr Bekkers describes his academic pathway from psychology to criminology and explains why his research focus has consistently been on offenders and their behaviour rather than on offences or technologies.Cybercrime offenders are often portrayed as a homogeneous group of highly skilled hackers, but research shows they are a heterogeneous population with distinct motivations, skills, and pathways into crime.A key distinction can be made between financially motivated cybercrime, such as online fraud, and more technically complex cyber-dependent crimes such as hacking, DDoS attacks, and website defacement.Financially motivated cybercrime offenders often resemble traditional offline offenders and may commit both online and offline crimes, with similar risk factors, peer influences, and personality profiles.Technically skilled cyber offenders tend to show different characteristics, including higher levels of self-control and intrinsic motivations such as curiosity, challenge, and skill development.Research suggests that traditional criminological theories still help explain some forms of cybercrime, particularly financially motivated offences, while other forms require additional or adapted theoretical approaches.Gaming environments may act as pathways into certain forms of cybercrime by facilitating skill development, exposure to deviant peers, and access to illicit online forums, though gaming may also be protective in some contexts.Parental supervision and open communication may play a role in shaping online behaviour, similar to the role of guardianship and social control in offline offending.Law enforcement responses differ depending on the type of cybercrime, with financially motivated offences often handled by local police and more technical crimes investigated by specialized units.Dr Bekkers highlights the need for longitudinal research and greater engagement with offenders to better understand pathways into cybercrime and to inform prevention and intervention strategies.About our guest:Dr Luuk Bekkershttps://www.thuas.com/research/research-groups/team-cybercrime-cybersecurityhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/luuk-bekkers-79621b162/Papers or resources mentioned in this episode:Bekkers, L. In this episode of the Pastoral Thoughts Podcast, Pastor Jack sits down with Rob Gassman for a thoughtful and Scripture-centered conversation on the relationship between Israel and the Church.Together, we explore the miracle of the Jewish people, the biblical covenants God made with Israel, and why Scripture presents Israel and the Church as distinct yet divinely connected parts of God's redemptive plan. We also address common misunderstandings surrounding replacement theology and consider the prophetic future of Israel as revealed in the Word of God.This episode is designed to help believers think biblically, carefully, and reverently about God's faithfulness to His promises—and how that faithfulness strengthens our confidence in Him today.

This study challenges long-held assumptions and uses seismic wave data to illustrate how these large low velocity provinces differ in density and material, impacting the planet's heat extraction from the core and potentially affecting the stability of Earth's magnetic field.Confirmation of Mars as a Blue PlanetNew evidence from ancient Martian river deltas suggests that Mars was once covered by a vast ocean. High-resolution images reveal delta-like structures, indicating that water once flowed into an ocean approximately 3 billion years ago. This discovery supports the notion of a once habitable environment on Mars, offering insights into its geological history and the potential for life.Galaxies Growing Through Cool Gas FilamentsA fascinating new study has demonstrated how galaxies can rapidly grow by drawing in filaments of cool gas. Observations from the Keck Telescope's Cosmic Webb Imager provide direct evidence of these gas streams spiraling into galaxies, fueling star formation at unprecedented rates. This research offers significant insights into the processes of galaxy formation and the role of the cosmic web in shaping the universe.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesScientific ReportsMPJ Space ExplorationNature AstronomyBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-your-guide-to-space-astronomy--2458531/support.(00:00:00) Distinct histories of Earth's mantle provinces(00:12:15) Mars confirmed as a blue planet with ancient ocean(00:25:30) Galaxies grow rapidly through cool gas filaments(00:35:00) Discovery of the oldest known rock art in the world.

Secret Sasquatch Research Facility ReportThe report describes a classified U.S. military research program, initiated in 1987 after a Sasquatch was killed by a train, that has expanded over 37 years to involve over 100 personnel in a heavily secured underground facility inside a mountain. Specimens and Facility107 cadavers (various ages and subspecies) stored in freezers.13 living specimens, acquired at significant human cost (multiple helicopter crashes attributed to capture attempts, officially covered as training accidents).Access requires passing three checkpoints; an elevator descends over 100 feet to the research levels.Key Biological FindingsAnatomy: Larger and denser than humans, with two extra ribs forming natural armor capable of stopping 30-caliber rounds; extremely dense skull (vulnerable only via eye socket or base); consumes entire prey (including bones) every 3–4 days.Genetics: 48 chromosomes (like apes, two more than humans), indicating not a human subspecies.Camouflage: Generate electric current through hair to reflect surroundings (electric camouflage); believed to also power night vision (glowing eyes when active).Vocalization: Three sets of vocal cords produce infrasound. Males induce fear, anxiety, confusion, or temporary memory loss; females produce calming/confusing effects that pacify prey.Communication: Use clicks, grunts, hand signals, and infrasound; live in hierarchical groups led by one alpha male.Social and Reproductive BehaviorStrict hierarchy; adult males fight to the death if females are present but can coexist without females.Females breed only after prior offspring reach 3–4 years; usually single births; young cling to mother for first year.Different responses to staff: calm and accepting with female staff; cautious or aggressive with male, uniformed, or armed staff.Female specimens have projected vivid mental images (“waking dreams”) to female staff (capture, childbirth, food preferences); no such events with male staff.Tracking and ReleaseFour non-aggressive specimens released with GPS implants.Tracked individuals follow long migration routes (e.g., eastern Texas to northern Ontario) or move 40–50 miles per night, staying weeks in one area.Signals sometimes vanish for days, suggesting underground cave travel.Distinct musks emitted for breeding, threat, or other contexts. The program prioritizes military applications (survivability, camouflage, infrasound weapons) and maintains extreme secrecy to prevent technology theft or public disruption.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

In this first episode of a two-part series, guest host Esaa Mohammad Sabti Samarah, PhD, LMSW leads a powerful conversation examining how anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim racisms function as distinct yet interconnected systems of harm. Together with scholars and practitioners Dr. Siham Elkassem, Dr. Bryn King, Dr. Nuha Dwaikat-Shaer, and Doctoral Candidate Amilah Baksh, the discussion examines how these forms of racism operate across structural, institutional, and interpersonal levels, and how they are sustained through histories of colonialism, racialization, and political violence. The episode critically interrogates the social work profession's response to these realities, confronting the gap between professed values and practiced silence. The panel names this silence as more than inaction: it is complicity reinforced by selective empathy, professional caution, and institutional pressures that limit meaningful engagement with Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim suffering.Listeners are invited to reflect on how racism is produced and maintained within professional spaces, and how social work education and practice can either reproduce harm or become a site of resistance and transformation. Part I lays the foundation by naming the problem clearly and setting the stage for a deeper examination in Part II, Beyond Neutrality: Confronting Silence, Resistance, and a Call to Action. The second episode deepens the conversation by examining neutrality, dissent, and professional responsibility, with particular attention to the impact on youth and affected communities. This episode is essential listening for anyone committed to racial justice, human rights, and accountability within social work and allied professions.#AntiRacism #PalestinianRights #AntiMuslimRacism #AntiPalistinianRacism #AntiArabRacism #ArabAndMuslimVoices #SocialWorkJustice #ColonialismAndResistanceLinks to Published WorksElkassem, S. PREVIEW — John Hardie — Ukraine's Blurred Lines and Infiltration Tactics. Hardie describes the absence of distinct, clearly demarcated front lines in the Ukraine conflict, documenting that Russian military forces now rely systematically upon small-unit infiltration tactics and close-proximity entrenchment maneuvers to position forces near Ukrainiandefensive positions and supply routes. Hardie emphasizes that Russian and Ukrainian forces frequently operate at extremely close proximity—sometimes separated only by individual tree lines—creating operational complications for defensive coordination, artillery fire support authorization, and making systematic mapping of the conflict's tactical boundaries extraordinarily difficult for both command structures and military intelligence analysts attempting real-time situational assessment. Wildlife Intelligence: Magpie Alliances and Cockatoo Defense — Jeremy Zakis — Zakis discussed his dog Dallas, who has become a skilled magpie whisperer, having cultivated alliances with five distinct magpie families throughout the neighborhood. Dallas demonstrates affection and respect toward the birds through deliberate head-bowing behavior, effectively communicating non-threatening intent. Dallas also actively protects the property from destructive Australiancockatoos seeking food and nesting sites. As summer approaches, other wildlife including kangaroos and wombats are increasingly emerging from natural habitat areas into residential neighborhoods.
Closing the Gap: Understanding Gender Disparities in Bladder Cancer Care, hosted by Martha K. Terris, MD, FACS, is a limited series spotlighting unique considerations for bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment among women. Dr Terris is department chair and a professor in the Department of Urology, the Witherington Distinguished Chair in Urology, and co-director of the Cancer Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. In the final part of this 3-part series, Dr Terris discussed how the early diagnosis of bladder cancer presents a significant challenge, particularly in female patients, who are frequently diagnosed at a later stage of the disease and subsequently respond less favorably to treatment modalities. A crucial component of early detection is the rigorous evaluation of hematuria, she emphasized. Microhematuria is defined strictly by microscopy. Reliance solely on a dipstick test is insufficient; any positive dipstick result necessitates a microscopic examination, she explained. Furthermore, patients currently receiving anticoagulation therapy do not bypass the standard workup, she noted. If hematuria is identified alongside a urinary tract infection or gynecological issue, the urine should be rechecked once the co-existing problem has cleared, she advised. Risk assessment must consider both common and less-recognized factors, particularly in women, according to Terris. Standard risks include exposure to cyclophosphamide or ifosfamide, Lynch syndrome, chronic indwelling Foley catheters, benzene/aromatic amine exposure, and smoking, she added. However, uro-oncologists must actively assess female patients for occupational exposures not traditionally associated with bladder cancer, she said. Patients presenting with microhematuria should be stratified into low-, intermediate-, or high-risk groups, Terris continued. The gold standard evaluation for high-risk patients is a cystoscopy and CT urogram, she reported. The CT urogram involves cross-sectional imaging of the abdomen and pelvis with and without contrast, incorporating delayed images to optimally visualize the renal pelvis and ureters for potential filling defects, she noted. If patients cannot tolerate contrast, an MR urogram is the primary alternative, she stated. If neither CT nor MR urogram can be performed, the default workup is non-contrast CT combined with cystoscopy and retrograde pyelograms, although this requires general anesthesia, she explained. Given that women are often diagnosed with bladder cancer late and face poor outcomes with advanced disease, maintaining a heightened awareness and low threshold for investigation is critical, Terris concluded.
The church is an outpost of God's Kingdom right here in the middle of our chaotic world. Jesus calls us out of isolated, private lives and into something shared and meaningful—a community that measures relationships not by efficiency or function, but by dignity, trust, and God's transforming love. Our task isn't to fix the world from the outside, but to live so differently that our lives become instruments of healing and reconciliation. As we read Scripture together and reshape our lives around what God desires, we discover real freedom: the freedom to challenge broken systems simply by living a different way, building our community on forgiveness, and letting God's Kingdom bring life to every broken place. This is what it means to be the church—local, personal, and radically different. You're invited into this beautiful community where our shared life reflects the kind of love that changes everything.

2. Galicia, World War I, and the Finkel Family's Soviet Incorporation This segment explores Western Ukraine (Galicia), distinct from the Russian Empire until relatively late. While Russia used forced assimilation and violence against Ukrainians, Galicia under the Austro-Hungarian Empire practiced tolerance, allowing Ukrainian language and nationalism to flourish. St. Petersburg deeply feared this, viewing the small region as a "Ukrainian Piedmont" that could spread nationalistic ideas and eventually unite Ukraine against Russian control. This anxiety—the desire to seize and Russify Galicia—was a key, often overlooked reason for Russia's entry into World War I. Russia occupied Galicia briefly but failed to keep it; however, in 1939, following the division of Poland by Stalin and Hitler, Western Ukraine was finally incorporated into the Soviet Union. The professor's grandfather, Israel/Lev Finkel, fought bravely for the USSR in the Great Patriotic War despite his Galician background, demonstrating the complex loyalties resulting from shifting imperial projects.
It's Witness Wednesday! Join Todd at Kennesaw State University as he discusses truth, the afterlife, postmodernism, and the exclusivity of Christ with two college students. Segment 1 • Student Brittany says she makes her own rules and believes in evolution, reincarnation, and positive energy. • Todd walks her through the need for an objective standard of right and wrong. • He introduces God as a loving, just Creator whose laws reveal everyone's guilt. Segment 2 • Todd shifts to a “cosmic courtroom” illustration, showing Brittany God's perfect justice. • She admits she'd be guilty under God's laws but hopes He'd “understand” human mistakes. • Todd explains why Jesus' death satisfies God's justice and saves sinners. Segment 3 • Erin studies sociology and blends Christianity with reincarnation-type thinking. • Todd challenges her postmodern thinking—truth isn't personal, it's either true or false. • Todd reasons that creation points to a Creator and presses her on who Jesus really is. Segment 4 • Erin shares she was baptized in 2020 but struggles with drifting from God in college. • Todd clarifies the difference between justification and sanctification. • He encourages her to rest in God's love and let that motivate obedience instead of guilt. ___ Thanks for listening! SEGMENT: Koala Reproduction and Marsupial Birthing Process GUEST NAME: Professor Danielle Clode SUMMARY: Biologist Professor Danielle Clode describes koala mating bellows and the distinct marsupial birthing process where the tiny, jelly bean-sized fetus crawls into the mother's pouch, an external womb. 1956
The estate of Jeffrey Epstein released materials today to the House Oversight Committee, including the "birthday book" that Donald Trump disputed (and continues to dispute) includes a crude drawing and note he submitted with his signature. Rachel Maddow looks at this and other new revelations and how much energy Trump is putting into denying what seems plain about Trump's role in a disgusting scandal of historic scale. Donald Trump's poor choice of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as his HHS secretary has cost him a leadership role in public health as Kennedy dismantles key departments and agencies, cuts funding and fires experts, leaving state leaders to take charge of vaccine availability and other health issues. Dr. Tao Sheng Kwan-Gett, chief science officer for the Washington State Department of Health, joins Rachel Maddow to discuss.
