Today we tackle what can be one of life's greatest fears – the fear of death. Dreams run their course. Seasons of life wind down. Relationships fizzle. Our bodies fade, and eventually we all die. It is imperative that we learn how to deal with the inevitable. That's why today we zero in on John 11:32–44 and listen to Him who is the resurrection and the life; for as we see with Lazarus, death is never the end when Jesus shows up. Textual questions to ponder: 1) How did Lazarus' sisters react to his death? How did Jesus react? 2) Why is death frequently our greatest fear? 3) What does Jesus promise you when you face the death of a dream, a job, a relationship, or someone you love?
If you are a mother, you probably know the feeling of fear well. In today's episode, Rachel talks about the biggest trauma her nervous system is still experiencing today - the fear of something happening to her children. Lea had surgery this week which was a huge experience for their entire family. Rachel shares the entire story from start to finish, and beautifully puts the terror moms can feel into words. It's a vulnerable episode about the root cause of our fears, a mother's never-ending love, and how to regulate your nervous system when the ground beneath you feels shaky. In this Encore episode of the Dying Your Way podcast, Claire O’Berry revisits her first conversation with Toni Reilly, regression specialist and founder of the Toni Reilly Institute. Together they explore what regression work is, how it can include past-life recall and the space “in between lives,” and why many people report feeling calmer and less fearful about death afterward. This conversation touches on the universal fear of dying, the grief and anxiety that can arise as we face mortality, and how curiosity—rather than rigid belief—can soften fear. Toni shares how regression is experienced as a deeply personal inner knowing, and why people often come away feeling lighter, clearer, and more at peace. The Breggin Hour with Dr. Peter & Ginger Breggin – We must resist being taught to fear. Decisions made in panic lead us away from love. Love is the true and practical remedy. Treasure your children. Treasure your elders. Build small circles of care that refuse to let a neighbor be reduced to a statistic. Repentance is not only a spiritual word. It is a daily turning from easy deference to active...
Tao Te Ching 74 starts by suggesting that people don't naturally fear death. Then it suggests that nefarious leaders try to instill a fear of death in those they dominate in order to control them. We discuss how this applies to contemporary times. Then Jeff shares some of the emerging research he's doing into the extent to which early Taoism applied, evolved, rejected, or ignored archaic Chinese mythological frameworks. He'll come back to that theme after this summer's reading agenda and report back. The question in practical terms is this: when the "Mysterious Mother" or the "Great Carpenter" are mentioned, are these to be taken as deities? Are they symbolic?

Fear of Death What happens when the fear of death becomes real? And what do you do when the weight of life feels like too much to carry? In this message, we kick off the series Brave: What Faith Does to Fear by confronting one of the deepest fears we all face—the fear of death. Through 1 Corinthians 15, we discover that Jesus didn't just come to comfort us in death… He came to defeat it. From the very beginning, humanity has been trying to cover shame, manage sin, and carry burdens we were never meant to hold. But what happens when those things don't stay light… when they turn into chains? This message explores how the cross and resurrection didn't just change eternity—they offer freedom right now. You don't have to live weighed down. You don't have to live afraid. Because of Jesus, death has lost its sting and chains can still fall. 1 Corinthians 15:54-57 Discussion topics HEAD – What did Jesus say to you through the Word? What stood out to you most from the message on fear of death? How does 1 Corinthians 15 change the way we understand death? What does it mean that “death has been swallowed up in victory”? Why do you think Paul speaks so confidently about victory instead of fear? How does the story of Adam and Eve trying to cover themselves connect to how we handle sin and shame today? HEART – How did it make you feel? Where do you see fear showing up in your life right now? Another way to ask this question is Which “chain” from the message did you relate to the most? Is there an area of your life where you've been trying to manage or cover something instead of bringing it to God? What would it look like for you to truly believe that you don't have to carry that weight anymore? HANDS – What are you going to do with it? What is one step you can take this week to stop carrying something you were never meant to carry? What is one “chain” you need to bring to God and begin letting go of? Who is someone you can talk to this week about what God is doing in your life? Group Action / Prayer Moment Next week we are celebrating baptisms. Baptism is a public step of saying, “I'm leaving the old life behind and stepping into new life with Jesus.” Is this a step you need to take? If not now, what might be holding you back? Invitation Check-In: Who is one person you can invite to church or into a conversation about faith this week? One of the greatest fear that all of us face is the fear of death. It is a fear that has held much of humanity captive ever since Adam introduced fear into the earth. However, there is Good News! The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus tasted death for us in order to destroy (render powerless) the devil who had the power of death and break that fear of death that held humanity captive. It is God's will that we be free from the fear of death and experience His resurrection life!
In Sunday Live, we dig into boundaries with dysfunctional and unhealthy parents, neediness, borderline personality disorder, religious OCD, scrupulosity and more! I start off with why Paul was able to break through the fear of death and end the broadcast addressing a 68-year-old pastor who has spent decades tormented by the fear that his past […]
It's natural to want to look away from the inevitable reality of death but Buddhism teaches that death is an alternate phase of life and makes up a larger universal cycle. To understand death is to deepen our understanding of and appreciation for life. Today's guest, John Plummer, of Cold Spring, NY, shares how facing his fear of loss improved his relationships and deepened his work as a film and TV writer. Welcome to Classic Skeptic Metaphysicians! We're re-releasing some of our back catalog so that these gems can be re-discovered!This week: Should We Fear Death? An Honest Conversation with Hospice Nurse Julie McFaddenDeath. It's the one certainty we all share...and the one topic most of us avoid like the plague. For years, Will openly admits his biggest fear was dying. Not just the process… but the terrifying possibility of nothingness afterward. And even after years of exploring consciousness, spirituality, and Near-Death Experiences on this show, that old panic still sneaks in from time to time. So this week, we go straight to the source. We sit down with Hospice Nurse Julie McFadden, a former ICU nurse turned hospice advocate who has witnessed hundreds of deaths, and calls the experience not tragic… but beautiful. Yes. Beautiful. Julie pulls back the curtain on what really happens as the body shuts down, what families often misunderstand about the dying process, and why so many people report seeing deceased loved ones in the final weeks of life. We cover:What actually happens to the body in the final months, weeks, and hoursWhy dying does not automatically mean sufferingThe science behind decreased appetite, increased sleep, and metabolic shiftsWhat “visioning” is, and why it happens to so many peopleWhether atheists experience end-of-life visions tooThe truth behind the “6 ounces of the soul” mythWhat it feels like to be in the room when someone takes their final breathWhy education about death reduces fearAnd the ultimate question: Is there life after death?Julie speaks candidly about the mysterious, metaphysical phenomena she's witnessed, and the sacred stillness that seems to fill a room when someone transitions. This conversation may not give you absolute certainty about what lies beyond… But it may radically change how you think about the journey getting there. If you've ever feared the process of dying… If you've ever sat beside a loved one and wondered if they were suffering… Or if you're simply curious about what really happens when we take our last breath… This episode might bring you more peace than you expect. Why This Episode Matters We spend so much time preparing for life. Almost none preparing for death. And yet, according to someone who sees it daily, the body knows exactly what to do. The real fear may not be death itself…But our misunderstanding of it. Listen in. You may walk away feeling lighter. The Skeptic Metaphysicians is a spiritual awakening podcast for open-minded thinkers who refuse to check their critical thinking at the door. Each episode explores consciousness expansion, enlightenment, soul purpose, and soul growth through honest, grounded conversation with leading voices in metaphysics, psychic phenomenon, quantum healing, and beyond. We dive deep into spiritual awakening, ascension, alignment, and the awakening process without the dogma. From mediumship and spirit guides to Arcturian contact, astrology, and the subconscious mind, we explore it all with curiosity, humor, and zero guru worship. Whether you're in the middle of your own awakening, questioning reality, or just spiritually curious, this is the podcast for seekers and skeptics alike.Subscribe, Rate & Review! If you found this episode enlightening, mind-expanding, or even just thought-provoking (see what we did there?), please take a moment to rate and review us. Her fear of Death is Gone...NDE
Mother continues St. Paul's Letters to the Ephesians. Mother answers questions about why St. John Lateran Basilica is the seat of the Pope, how to become a traditional Catholic without the Latin Mass, Melania Trump's stance on abortion, what the church does to support babies after birth, and overcoming the fear of death.
The fear of death doesn't just shape how we think about the end of life—it quietly affects how we live right now. When death is seen as final or unknown, it drains joy, courage, and hope from everyday life. The Bible doesn't ignore death, but it also doesn't leave us trapped in fear; it proclaims that Jesus entered death and defeated it through His resurrection. Because of Christ, death no longer has the final word, and freedom from the fear of death allows us to live with purpose, courage, generosity, and hope, confident that our future is secure in Him.
"Death is when the bill comes due. Life is lived on credit." Hebrews 2:14-15

In this episode of Hunger for Wholeness, Robert Nicastro welcomes listeners back into Sr. Ilia Delio's conversation with biophysicist and technologist Gregory Stock. Last time, Greg raised a profound question: how will AI shape two enduring human longings—love and immortality? In this second part, Ilia and Greg return to the theme of immortality, exploring not only what it might mean for individuals, but what it could mean for the human species as a whole. As the conversation unfolds, the focus widens from personal hopes to public consequences. Technology has often promised abundance, comfort, and control. Nevertheless, who actually benefits when those promises arrive? Ilia presses into the economics of AI, asking whether it will become a first-world luxury or something that can genuinely serve the common good.Later, the dialogue turns toward a civic question that is increasingly difficult to avoid: Are our social structures and our governments prepared for the realities of AI? Greg shares his hopes for the future and the aims of his new book, Generation AI and the Transformation of Human Being.ABOUT GREGORY STOCK“The greatest frontier in human evolution may no longer lie outside us, but inside: in the choices — and designs — we make for ourselves.”Gregory Stock, Ph.D., is a scientist, writer, entrepreneur, and public communicator whose work represents a deep exploration into what it means to be human in the 21st century. "Fear makes us selfish," and no fear more so than the fear of death. A book Wayne recently read provoked his thinking about death and how the fear of it can make people act in destructive ways. So, he and Kyle discuss the fear of death, and how Jesus came to free those who are enslaed to it. Instead of helping people find that freedom, Christianity has often added to people's anxiety about death by threatening them with the consequences that could lie behind it. How would people be in the world if they no longer feared dying, but saw it as a transformation, much like the caterpillar yielding to the chrysalis? Both expressed their hope for a future where relationships are restored and wounds are healed. Podcast Notes: The video recording of this podcast Just Love, referred to in this podcast, is a book Wayne is writing with Tobie van der Westhuizen from South Africa. We hope to have it available in February 2026. The post The Fear of Death (#1016) first appeared on The God Journey.

God With Us (Advent 2025 – Part 2)Hebrews 2:14–17 shows that Christmas matters because God became truly human in Jesus—not in sin, but in our flesh—to accomplish what no one else could. By taking on our nature, Christ destroyed the devil's power, silenced his accusations, and freed us from the fear and slavery of death. As the perfect High Priest, He represents us before God, bears our sin in propitiation, and gives us His righteousness. Jesus became like us so He could save us, stand for us, and bring us into the life and hope only He can give.Sermon Preached by Bryan Martinez on December 7, 2025Foothill Church exists to glorify God by living as disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus.https://foothill.church Learn about our For the Sake of His Name 2-Year Discipleship Journey:https://foothill.church/FTSOHN

In this episode, I reflect on Meditations 4.5 and Marcus Aurelius' effort to habituate acceptance of death as a natural and necessary part of life. Drawing from Marcus' experiences leading Rome through war and plague, I explore how his preoccupation with death wasn't morbid, but practical—an attempt to remain aligned with Nature and his duty within the Cosmopolis. Death, like birth, is part of the universal order, and Stoicism teaches us that fearing it contradicts the very reason and nature we're trying to live in accordance with. I also answer a listener question about the tension between patience and passivity. When someone wrongs us repeatedly, how do we maintain Stoic endurance without becoming doormats? I break down how context and role-based duties shape what it means to act justly, and I offer practical strategies for staying true to Stoic principles while setting boundaries that honor both ourselves and others. THREE TAKEAWAYS — Death is neither good nor bad—it's a natural process necessary to life itself. — Stoic practice requires continual habituation, especially around fear and mortality. — Setting boundaries is not un-Stoic when done with reason and care for all parties involved.
