Welcome to another edition of The Way Out Podcast! I'm your host, Charlie, and in this rendition of The Way Out, we have something truly special lined up for you. You might know Edwin McCain as the voice behind timeless hits like 'I'll Be' and 'I Could Not Ask for More,' but beyond the music, he's got a deeply personal story that embodies recovery, resilience, and transformation.  For those of you who've been listening to The Way Out from the start, you'll recognize this as the original format of the show, where I would deliver the introduction to the interview that followed. We're going old school on this one with Edwin because once our chat got started, there was no stopping for nothin. In this conversation, Edwin opens up about his journey to and through Recovery to this point—the highs, the struggles, and the lessons that have shaped him not just as an artist, but as a human being. His insights into addiction, healing, and finding purpose beyond fame are powerful and deeply relatable. All of this he takes into his new album, Lucky for which he embarks on Tour to support starting in our back yard in Minneapolis tomorrow, Cinco De Mayo of all days. Perhaps the most profound and resonant piece of spiritual and Recovery wisdom to come from our recovery rap session is that Nothing is the hardest thing to do on our path to and through Recovery. This strikes at the very core of mine and so many that I've come to knows experience. Boredom and idle time was untenable and it felt impossible not to react to most everything.Paradoxically, when I'm spiritually centered, Nothing is too hard in Recovery or life. So whether you're doing something or nothing as you listen, I am certain you'll enjoy kicking it old school with Edwin and I waxing poetic on all things Recovery so Listen Up.  TakeawaysRecovery is a personal journey that requires understandingone's triggers. The loss of an addict can lead to others finding their pathto sobriety.Mindfulness can help individuals separate their thoughtsfrom their actions.Harm reduction strategies can be effective for someindividuals in recovery.Community support is crucial in the recovery process.Every recovery journey is unique and requires tailoredapproaches.Understanding brain chemistry can aid in addressingaddiction.Families must also engage in the recovery process to breakthe cycle. It's hard to bring people to the realization of their challenges.Family dynamics can complicate recovery.Emotional responses can be overwhelming in early recovery.Altruism is a key component of recovery support.Recovery is about becoming a dependable person.Balance is essential for a fulfilling life.Creativity can flourish when addiction is removed.Recovery allows for deeper emotional connections. The stigma around addiction can hinder treatment.Recovery can lead to unexpected moments of clarity.Connection is everything for me.You can't rush the process.Be the best example of recovery.I'm not looking for an attaboy.Gratitude list is usually way up there.Living Sober had the biggest impact. The hardest thing in the world to do is nothing. Learn more about Edwin McCain and his music - https://edwin.com/ Recovery literature (quit-lit) recommendation: Living Sober:Practical Methods Alcoholics Have Used for Living Without Drinking - https://a.co/d/dpoxlCW Best piece of Recovery advice: The hardest thing in the worldis to do nothing Song that symbolizes Recovery to Edwin: The Lucky One by AndersOsborne - https://youtu.be/pJOoKWwjj5A Don't forget to check out “The Way Out Playlist” available onlyon Spotify.

Elke week hoor je minimaal één aflevering van All in the Game. Het komt allemaal aan bod in All in the Game. All in the Game werd als podcast al in 2022 opgenomen in het archief van Het Nederlands instituut voor Beeld & Geluid in Hilversum - als eerste podcast van BNR Nieuwsradio en één van de eerste gamepodcasts van allemaal. The Last of Us Parte 3.

This week I was joined by my friends Nicky Pizaña and Dr. Adam Clark for a challenging but important conversation. In 1973 Dr. William R. Jones published a book titled, "Is God A White Racist: A Preamble to Black Theology". In this book, Jones concluded that if the God of classical theism is true, then God is indeed a White Racist. Is the claim that God is the liberator of the oppressed empirically verifiable? Jones concludes that it is not... and if God is all powerful, then why is there so much oppression? I think Open & Relational Theology could offer a different perspective that takes Jones argument seriously, but could ultimately could allow us to say, "No! God is not a White Racist". Often times however, Black Theology and Liberation Theology have been hesitant to engage with the Open and Relational or Process Relational tradition. In this conversation Nicky and Adam engage with Jone's strong claims and challenge me on the adequacy of my Process-Relational approach. Enjoy! In this episode of Work in Progress, I'm back at CES 2025, looking at the impact AI and digitalization are changing the workforce and shaping the future of industries like aviation and manufacturing. I stop by the booth of tech and manufacturing giant Siemens, where U.S. CEO Barbara Humpton shares how her company is using AI to create innovate products and projects with their partners. Here is some of what we discussed: Siemens is partnering with aviation startup JetZero to use AI to design a groundbreaking blended-wing aircraft that will reduce emissions by 50%. The plane will be made in the U.S. and create an estimated 10,000 U.S. jobs. Siemens is using AI and digital tools to make manufacturing and design processes more efficient, enabling workers to transition into higher-skilled, better-paid roles. Siemens is also leveraging AI and digitalization to address global challenges like water scarcity through partnerships like the one with Wayout, a company using technology to purify water in water-distressed areas. Siemens is demonstrating its transformation from a traditional manufacturing company to a tech leader driving sustainable innovation and economic growth in the U.S. Humpton goes into detail on all of this. It's eye-opening to see how much AI is changing the workforce and every industry. You can listen to the entire conversation here, or wherever you get your podcasts. With high marks from The New York Times, Pitchfork and more -- plus overwhelming support from the indie record store community -- Jeff Parker's latest album The Way Out of Easy is inarguably one of the most discussed and heralded jazz LP's of the 2000's. Fully improvisational and recorded live to tape with the ETA IVtet, monikered after Parker and his bandmates spent nearly half a decade playing weekly at the Enfield Tennis Academy (a since-defunct Los Angeles cocktail bar), the album is a transcendent 80 minutes of hazy ambiance and nuanced exploration that rewards both devout jazz enthusiasts and genre newcomers at every turn. The US Marine Corps has seen its time and it is now the opportunity to sunset it and wish it well in memorium. Two historical moments have destroyed the efficacy and primacy of the USMC: missiles and the sad Commandant tenure of GEN David H. Berger who will be remembered as the man who murdered the Corps. The US has not made a contested beach landing since Inchon in 1-19 September 1950 and the era of missiles has made the contested beach landing by maritime connectors and vertical envelopment a murderously expensive undertaking. The non-naval Houthis in Yemen have proven that US and allied naval surface power is a questionable enterprise peripheral to littorals. Previously a professor at Harvard Business School, he studies how organizations and leaders build trust with stakeholders. He is the author of The Age of Outrage: How to Lead in a Polarized World. In a lot of ways, leadership is better than it was a generation ago. One way that it isn't better? Figuring out how to lead effectively in an increasingly polarized world. In this conversation, Karthik and I explore what leaders can do to turn down the temperature on outrage. Key Points We tend to frame effective leadership as heroic. In times of outrage, the virtue of temperance becomes essential. A leader will never fully address the demands made of them, regardless of how well they act. Even when a leader resolves problems, they will be viewed as part of the problem. Anticipate times of outrage and create spaces that calm people physically and help them connect with each other. Establish rules of engagement outside moments of outrage so that you have a starting point. Create pre-arranged workgroups that can help illuminate a path forward for the larger organization. Send Lauren a text! In today's episode, we're talking all about chronic pain, what it is, why it happens, and, most importantly, how you can find hope and healing!I'll start this episode by telling you how anxiety and pain act like alarm bells, signaling danger even though we are sometimes safe. I'll tell you why the brain can incorrectly send out danger signals and explain the differences between neuroplastic pain and structural pain. I'll also provide you with questions to ask yourself to determine which type of pain you are experiencing. This will help you to take the necessary steps towards feeling better. Stay tuned till the end of the episode when you'll learn some practical ways to help calm your nervous system and hear about Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a powerful approach for rewiring the brain to reduce (and even eliminate) pain.  This is the 2nd episode in a 3 part series on anxiety and chronic pain. Missed last week's episode? No worries! In it I told you about the connection between anxiety, pain, and physical symptoms. I will recap some of that info in this episode. What happens when an injury becomes chronic and the way out is not what you envisioned? This is not just an episode about recovering from an injury (or in Amy's case, perhaps two injuries). It's about the journey into Amy's chronic injury, how it progressed and became constant, and the frustrating mental toll over 18 months that included multiple doctors, treatments, false starts, fear, doubt, and finally hope and a change in perspective.  The first half of this podcast focuses on the physical- the progression of low back and hip labrum pain- symptoms, treatments, and more.  And the second half delves into what happened when Amy basically hit rock bottom and spiraled into a place she needed help getting out of.  The way out was found not only externally (with PT and strength and progression), but also was found within, by taking a deep dive into her brain and the subject of neuroplastic pain in order to get out of chronic pain and also find a new path forward, mentally and physically.  Have a listen!

This was the team that brought us JONNY QUEST, SPACE GHOST, THE HERCULOIDS, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, SUPER FRIENDS, SHAZZAN, VALLEY OF THE DINOSAURS, and many other fantastical Saturday morning staples.  Not satisfied with the status quo, HANNA and BARBERA ventured out into the world of feature films, giving us THE MAN CALLED FLINTSTONE, HEY THERE, IT'S YOGI BEAR!, and the beloved animated classic, CHARLOTTE'S WEB. If that's not enough for you folks, they even tackled live-action with THE BANANA SPLITS ADVENTURE HOUR, DANGER ISLAND, MYSTERY ISLAND, and the under-appreciated live-action/animation hybrid, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN!  Of course, we don't have the space to list all of HANNA-BARBERA'S achievements.
