A man tries to use a crowd-funding website for his dad's surgery, but Max insists they find an alternative to protect his patient's dignity. Meanwhile, it's Reynolds' last day at the Dam, and unfortunately he spends it trapped at the bottom of an elevator shaft. Polly gets invited to be a guest on Ellen's last season, and Emily believed the Jewish Ghost in this episode was real.
In a twist that no one could see coming, Max, Bloom, and Reynolds are being sued for malpractice! But as they prepare for the trial, the case becomes more complicated than it seems. Emily isn't going to swear anymore, and Polly ships Johann Gutenberg and Martin Luther.
Max is ecstatic after getting a shocking order from the boss: "go break some rules." Meanwhile, Iggy Frome decides to break some societal rules on his own by becoming a marriage counselor to a two half-siblings. Emily loves listing steampunk things, and Polly continues to not be fact-checked.
Max is ordered to make some budget cuts or else everyone will be skipping a paycheck! His first idea? He sends Reynolds to Mexico City for the afternoon. Emily calls in from a phone booth to record this, and Polly once again needs to speak for the entire Jewish community in response to a New Amsterdam episode.
As he tries to create a new palliative care unit in just one day, Max assigns each of our heroes a new patient who's close to end-of-life.
