Have you ever thought about what it really takes to follow Jesus? The story of the first Christmas isn't just about a peaceful manger scene—it's about the struggle, sacrifice, and sheer determination of those who obeyed God's call. In this episode, Stephen Davey takes us deep into the turmoil and dangers faced by Mary, Joseph, and even the Magi. From fleeing Herod's soldiers in the middle of the night to raising a child under constant threat, the Holy Family's journey was anything but easy. They faced questions without answers, moments of panic, and a life on the run. Stephen also touches on the broader conflict between the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of darkness that began long before the cross—it began with Jesus' first cry as a newborn. This episode will challenge you to reconsider your expectations of the Christian life. Are you ready to follow Christ when the journey gets tough? Find out why Christianity was never meant to be comfortable, and how the original Christmas story calls each of us to a life of dangerous, expensive, and constant loyalty to our King.

Are you facing challenges that seem insurmountable? In this episode, we draw parallels between Winston Churchill's unyielding spirit during World War II and Nehemiah's leadership in rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. Nehemiah's story starts with silent prayers and ends in open battle. With the king's support and a clear vision, Nehemiah tackles the monumental task of rebuilding amidst opposition. Just as Churchill promised victory through "blood, toil, tears, and sweat," Nehemiah asks the same of his people. Join us as we dive into Nehemiah 2:9-20 to see how true opportunity often comes with opposition. How does Nehemiah's approach to leadership and perseverance provide a blueprint for overcoming our own challenges today? Listen now and be inspired to rise and build, no matter the obstacles in your path.

AL KOOPER 'THE LOST INTERVIEWS' EPISODE 6 Singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist AL KOOPER continues to relish an incredible life of music. Although these days it's mostly through his weekly online column for The Morton Report entitled ‘New Music for Old People' Kooper reveals… “This column is like the title says - its intention is to fill the gap for those of us who were satiated musically in the '60s and then searched desperately as we aged for music we could relate to and get the same buzz from nowadays. iTunes was the answer for me in 2003 and I have been following the new releases every Tuesday ever since I realized there was an endless stream of music I could enjoy there. The reason I am writing this column is to make sure others don't miss this. These are not top ten items; but they SHOULD be!” Kooper is also excited about the re-release of the classic ‘Super Session' album featuring Al Kooper-Mike Bloomfield-Stephen Stills. The album is re-mastered with the latest (Hybrid Multichannel SACD) technology. The package includes new liner notes written by Al Kooper that tell the story of the Super Session album and the new 5.1 Multichannel mix. The 5.1 mix by Al Kooper with mastering by Bob Ludwig was never released and yet it has acquired some fame from industry insiders familiar with the Multichannel mix with comments like "excellent" and "it deserves to be heard. “The new mastering of the Stereo tracks for new SACD Stereo and CD Stereo audio are by mastering engineer Steve Hoffman. -The official release of ‘Super Session' on amazon.com is -September 9th. AL KOOPER: had a life changing undertaking technologically and musically after receiving a Webcor reel to reel tape recorder as a Bat Mitzvah gift in 1957.Born in Brooklyn and growing up in Queens, New York … Kooper began his incredible music career as a fourteen-year-old guitarist with The Royal Teens (“Short Shorts” #3 U.S. Hit in 1958). In 1960, Kooper joined the songwriting team of Bob Brass and Irwin Levine and wrote “This Diamond Ring” (#1 U.S. Hit in 1965) for Gary Lewis & the Playboys. At 21, Kooper moved to Greenwich Village and began a momentous relationship with Bob Dylan. He performed and recorded with Dylan including adding his classic Hammond organ riffs on “Like a Rolling Stone”(#2 U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Hit in 1965). During those recording sessions, Kooper met Michael Bloomfield. In 1967, Al Kooper joined The Blues Project as their keyboardist. He left the band before the group was to appear at the infamous Monterey Pop Festival, and instead, along with bandmate Steve Katz, formed the jazz/rock/psychedelic/ R&B/ group …Blood, Sweat & Tears. Kooper left Blood, Sweat & Tears after their critically acclaimed debut release … ‘Child Is Father to the Man' (1968). The album spawned the classic rock mainstays … “I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know” (Penned by Kooper) and “I Can't Quit Her” (Written by Kooper/Levine). Al Kooper recorded a jazz inspired jam entitled ‘Super Session' in 1968 with Michael Bloomfield and Stephen Stills. The album spawned an incredible cover of Donovan's “Season of the Witch” and my favorite track “His Holy Modal Majesty” (Written by Kooper and Bloomfield). The album peaked at #12 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. It was Al Kooper who called Judy Collins in the middle of the night and put Joni Mitchell on the phone to sing “Both Sides Now” which eventually became a huge hit for Collins in 1968. Throughout the years …Kooper became a mainstay in the recording studio performing with The Rolling Stones, The Who, B.B. King, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Alice Cooper, Peter, Paul & Mary, Joe Cocker, Tom Petty, and Roger McGuinn to name just a few. Kooper discovered Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972 after watching several of their appearances at a frequented club in Atlanta. Al moved to Atlanta and signed the band to his new record label ‘Sounds of the South.' (He would eventually sell the label to MCA Records). Al Kooper produced and performed on Lynyrd Skynyrd's first (3) albums… (‘Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd, Second Helping, and Nuthin'Fancy). Also, on the singles “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” and “Saturday Night Special.” Al Kooper produced The Tubes, David Essex, Nils Lofgren, Rick Nelson, Ray Charles, The Staple Singers, Bob Dylan, and Lynyrd Skynyrd … to name just a few. He also played and arranged three tracks on George Harrison's ‘Somewhere in England' album and performed with the remaining Beatles … George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, on Harrison's Hit single “All Those Years Ago” (U.S. #2 Billboard Hot 100 Hit in 1981). Kooper has also written and composed on countless albums and scores for television and motion pictures. And let's not forget an incredible SOLO CAREER … I Stand Alone (1969), You Never Know Who Your Friends Are (1969), Easy Does It (1970), New York City (You're A Women)(1971), Possible Projection of the Future/ Childhood's End (1972), Naked Songs (1973), Act Like Nothing's Wrong (1977), Championship Wrestling (1982), Rekooperation (1994), Soul of a Man (Live album 1995), Black Coffee (2005), and White Chocolate (2008). Al Kooper published his well- received memoir entitled … Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards: Memoirs of a Rock ‘N' Roll Survivor. The first edition was released in 1977 with subsequent editions released in 1998 and 2008. (The 2008 edition being the best of the three). I had the rare opportunity of chatting with Al Kooper about the remastered classic ‘Super Session' album on 5.1 Multichannel mix … Al's column ‘New Music for Old People' … The Music industry today … Discovering Lynyrd Skynyrd … My infamous ‘Field of Dreams' question… And much-much more! Human sacrifice, the offering of the life of a human being to a deity. The occurrence of human sacrifice can usually be related to the recognition of human blood as the sacred life force. Bloodless forms of killing, however, such as strangulation and drowning, have been used in some cultures. The killing of a human being, or the substitution of an animal for a person, has often been part of an attempt to commune with a god and to participate in divine life. When his parents took him to a local movie theatre to see Lawrence of Arabia at the age of 12, John Scheinfeld was completely captivated and began to dream of a career in Hollywood. Today, he is best known for his highly personal, idiosyncratic documentary films. He has been entrusted with the significant legacies of such iconic artists as Herb Alpert, Nat ‘King' Cole, Bob Hope, John Lennon, Sergio Mendes, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and more. One of his most recent projects examines “What the Hell happened to Blood, Sweat and Tears?” Hot off their spectacular Grammy win for Album of the Year, the popular band became the first American rock band to perform behind the Iron Curtain, but they soon found themselves in the crossfire of a political firestorm. This week, Scheinfeld joins host Dr. Alan Campbell to talk about this documentary and the many other interesting topics he has tackled during his prolific career. https://crewneckproductions.com

For James Belding, the co-founder and CEO of Tokenized, the launch of his desktop app just days ahead of the London Blockchain conference in June was the fruit of years of work, ever since he appeared at a CoinGeek conference with his self-funded team in Toronto in 2019. Described as a “self-custodial and enterprise-grade digital wallet …for issuing, managing and holding digital assets including Bitcoin SV”, Tokenized boasts an elegant interface, an easy sign up process and an impressive range of functions.Sure, it's taken a while, James admits, but that's because he wanted his product to be more than just “the hundredth wallet that wasn't that good and that didn't distinguish itself at all from anything else.”Tokenized's distinction lies in the wide range of what James calls “instrument types” that it supports. So in your wallet, you can have an eclectic mix, including bonds, tickets, coupons and loyalty points as well alongside fiat currencies. Despite the name of the business, James plays down the tokens themselves, partly because he thinks people have a distorted idea about them from the hype around dodgy NFTs. The tokens are just “tiny, tiny pieces of the puzzle,” he says. “You just make a token on chain. Maybe it's a five, or twenty percent improvement over current things”. It's the rest of what blockchain can do that is key to what he wants to achieve with Tokenized: “the real unlocking of value - and where all the hard work is - in the smart contracts and all the implications that arise from those”. On this week's CoinGeek Conversations, James talks about the journey from initial idea to product launch, and explains why he thinks users will agree that Tokenized was worth the wait: “We really put our blood, sweat and tears into it to make it as compelling as we could, as simple as we could. But right now anyone can download the app and they can use it as what we think is probably the best Bitcoin wallet or even crypto wallet in the whole industry.”Part of that claim rests on the thinking that James and his team have put into security. By reducing Tokenized's own custody of assets, they have put their users in a more direct relationship with the blockchain: “we saw a non-custodial approach [allowing] users to connect directly with the DLT [digital ledger technology] as intuitively very compelling from a security point of view.”That has an additional benefit when trying to sign up customers, big business especially: he can tell them that they don't need to put their faith in Tokenized being around forever - although he is confident it will be! But if the company were to disappear, the Tokenized protocol, which is open source, would still exist and continue to operate, and users could access their assets through alternative interfaces. “I think that resonates very well” in discussion with potential customers, James says. “It's a really powerful message and we get a lot of positive feedback for it.”So what are the prospects for signing up big business users? James is cautiously optimistic: “we're in active discussions with a lot of big players that are getting their heads around it. I wouldn't say we're at a stage where one of the biggest players is ready to drop everything, but we're basically at the point where I think a bunch of pilot projects are going to start rolling out quite soon”.

Jazz/Rock Fusion greats Blood, Sweat & Tears were on top of their game in 1970, winning grammies, headlining Woodstock and racking up hit after hit with Spinning Wheel, And When I Die, and You've Made Me So Very Happy. And then they ventured behind the Iron Curtain. It was not their idea. Nixon was President. The Viet Nam War raged on and BS & T were blackmailed into acting as emissaries on behalf of the U.S. State Department, touring the Soviet Bloc countries of Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland. This precarious adventure and the ensuing stateside fallout are chronicled in the new doc, What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat and Tears? Director John Scheinfeld and BS&T Drummer Bobby Colomby join us to discuss this remarkable film, the newly unearthed tour footage, The State Departments' and the Soviet Bloc countries' respective agendas, and how America's response in 1970 reflects a nation as fractured and polarized as the one we see today. Plus, we learn about the jazz and soul origins of BS&T, Bobby's foggy Woodstock memories, John's story-telling principles and how the making of this documentary allowed Bobby, at long last, to recognize his own skill as a drummer! All that and Fritz and Weezy are recommending Sin Eater: The Crimes of Anthony Pellicano on Hulu & HBO's doc series, The Anarchists.Path Points of Interest:What The Hell Happened To Blood Sweat and TearsDirector John Scheinfeld John Scheinfeld on InstagramBobby Colomby Memorandum From the President's Assistant for National Security Affairs (Kissinger) to President NixonL.A. Blood, Sweat & Tears, known for hits such as “Spinning Wheel”, “You've Made Me So Very Happy”, and “And When I Die”, headlined the legendary Woodstock Festival and won multiple Grammy Awards, most notably 1970's win for Album of The Year, beating The Beatles' “Abbey Road” and “Johnny Cash Live at San Quentin.” This is the incredible never-before-told story about a top rock band that was unknowingly embroiled in a political rat's nest involving the U.S. State Department, the Nixon White House and a controversial concert tour of Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland, countries that were behind what was then known as the Iron Curtain. As a result, they found themselves in the crosshairs of a polarized America -as divided then as it is now – and became an early victim of cancel culture. Written, produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker John Scheinfeld (The U.S. vs. John Lennon, Chasing Trane, Who Is Harry Nilsson?, Herb Alpert Is...), and executive produced by James Sears Bryant, the film was created with the full cooperation of Blood, Sweat & Tears. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS features never-before-seen film and photos of the band, as well as present day interviews with five of the nine band members including distinctive lead singer David Clayton-Thomas, sax player and musical arranger Fred Lipsius, innovative bass player Jim Fielder, outspoken guitarist Steve Katz and drummer and band leader Bobby Colomby. They also get into why, as a startup, you need to be able to execute your ideas quickly, but also why you shouldn't overwork yourself.Guest at a Glance:Name: Carl CarellAbout Ran: Carl Carell is the Co-Founder of GetAccept, a digital sales room empowering revenue teams to increase their win rates by engaging and understanding buyers. Previously, Carl was also the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Adsensus Denmark Aps, and was a Sales Manager AtlasTM SRL.One of his colleagues, Kevin Montano, had this to say about him: “It is rare to possess as much charisma and emotional intelligence as Carl. I was lucky enough to learn from him during my time with the company he founded, GetAccept.”Carl on LinkedInCarl on TwitterGetAccept on LinkedInGetAccept's WebsiteTopics we cover:How GetAccept helps create fantastic opportunities for businessesCarl's advice for choosing business partnersThe hardships of building a SaaS businessLearning curves in starting a businessThe importance of retaining a healthy business cultureMake sure you execute your ideasThe process of funding your businessHealth is wealth - don't overwork yourself!Key Takeaways:Buyers Are Significantly More Educated Nowadays Being a sales rep in this day-and-age can be a tricky business. Afterall, with so much accessibility to a wide range of information (and also misinformation) on the internet, customers are far more educated on certain topics and, as a result, are more weary when it comes to listening to sales reps. Carl explains that, at GetAccept, they want to create a better experience for both sales reps and buyers, making it smoother and having a much clearer understanding of each other. “So, how do we create a journey that is not just helping sales reps sell better, but also helping buyers have a better experience and understand that vendor in a better way? That's what got GetAccept to be where we are today. That is essentially the problem that we think about; I fall asleep thinking about our product and I wake up [still] thinking about it, every single day.”Be Careful Who You Choose to Start Your Business WithCarl's business background has certainly been a rich and busy one, but one piece of advice he has for anyone looking to start a business, whether that be in SaaS or another respectful industry, is that you shouldn't just start a business with anyone. Just because someone is a good friend, it doesn't mean they'll be a good business partner. It's an easy mistake to make, one filled with so much excitement and enthusiasm for a business idea that it can be hard to remember the importance of how well you and your partner will mesh and work together in the long run. “We started a business in college [...] That was an interesting journey, it taught me a lot about how you should think around your business. You should just start a business with whoever's around, you should really think about the co-founders you choose and what their ambitions are.”To Get to Where You Want, You Have to Try and FailSaaS is notoriously difficult to build a business in, and just like many of host Phil's guests, Carl has started multiple businesses before hitting the jackpot with GetAccept. There's a danger with the way the media shows off many entrepreneurs in recent times, portraying them as figures who can do no wrong and are unquestioned geniuses, but Carl warns us not to listen to them that much, as almost every entrepreneur he knows has had to try and fail before making something great. It's the dream of many SaaS entrepreneurs to move to Silicon Valley and smash it out of the park, but it's important to remember: it won't always be that easy. The Importance of Culture in BusinessCarl acknowledges that, when he first started in SaaS, there was a certain toxicity to the culture - tight deadlines, short tempers, inflated egos - but now, it has calmed down a lot. It's so vitally important that your business creates a culture that people want to be a part of; culture is what makes people want to come back to the office and work with others, it creates a sense of belonging that is absolutely needed for any one in any sort of environment. “If you hire really fantastic people and have that as a strategy, you also have to have a strategy to retain that talent and to keep them happy.”How Quickly You Can Execute Your Ideas as a Startup is VitalWhen you first create your business, meeting deadlines and executing your ideas is paramount, because you still have to prove yourself. This can lead to long hours and hard work which will require a strong work ethic, resilience, and determination. It's important, then, to try and stay optimistic, and keep in mind that Rome wasn't built in a day.Eventually, all of your hard work will pay off, it's just a matter of time.

Happy 6th birthday to the Blood, Sweat and Tears (2016). Join Lia and our favorite International Correspondent, Lexi, in unpacking the symbolism and Easter eggs found in BTS's iconic music video. Do people in your life ever dismiss your BTS love as supporting "some stupid boy band?" First, ew. You get to enjoy and celebrate WHATEVER brings you joy, friend. But secondly, while we love a surface-level banger like Butter...when the guys go deep, they tunnel into the depths of human duality and draw on influences from folks like Nobel-Prize winner Herman Hesse and the gnostic mystical concept of Abraxas. So if you ever want to "well, actually," a BTS naysayer, tune in and bulk up your argument.Show notes:The Music VideosBTS (방탄소년단) '피 땀 눈물 (Blood Sweat & Tears)' Official MVBTS (防弾少年団) '血、汗、涙 -Japanese Ver.-' Official MVBTS (방탄소년단) 'ON' Official MVBTS (방탄소년단) 'ON' Kinetic Manifesto Film : Come PrimaBTS (방탄소년단) 'IDOL' Official MVBTS (방탄소년단) 'Butter' Official MVAgust D '대취타' MV (Daechwita)The Art:The Fall of the Rebel AngelsPieter Bruegel the Elder (1562)Hieronymus BoschThe Lament for IcarusHerbert James Draper (1898)PietàMichelangelo (1498-1499)A veiled Vestal VirginRaffaelle Monti (1846-1847)The books:Demian (Hermann Hesse) - Mere Mortals Book ReviewThus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None by Friedrich Nietzsche The Music:Bach's Mass in B MinorBuxtehude's Passacaglia in D MinorThe Mythology:Michael (Archangel)ApolloAbraxasIcarusHyakinthos (Hyacinthus)Zephyr (Zephyros)The Miscellaneous:[ENG] 161012 [BANGTAN BOMB] 'Blood Sweat & Tears' MV Reaction by BTSBTS - Blood Sweat and Tears - ParodyLia's husband's audio she didn't recognize
