I wanted to create a resource for expecting dads and new dads that is from a dad’s perspective. I want to have deep, meaningful conversations with other men looking at experiences, resources and anything else that will help anyone out there searching for this type of resource. I want to change the impression that men can’t take a more important role in child rearing from the start. I also want to make sure to convey that we don’t need to lose sight of our interests and priorities once the baby comes. We don’t need to become the dad who looks back on his 20s as if they were the best years of his life.

Ryan interviews Jamie Brasseur. Jamie was the first guest on the podcast when it launched earlier this year. I wanted to have Jamie back on for a couple of reasons; firstly, because of how he immediately jumped in to help me out when I was having a hard time a few months ago. I was in a rut and still trying to understand what my role was as the father of a newborn. I posted about it on social media and without hesitation, Jamie called me to check in and chat. That conversation meant the world to me because I know that a lot of dads struggle with the same issues but it is seldom discussed. The other reason is the main topic of the conversation. I asked Jamie what the hardest part of being a dad has been for him. His answer? Time management and balance.Topics: Kids growing up immersed in technologyHow the most difficult part of parenting can shift depending on the development stageCovid exacerbating time managementHow communicating a plan as a couple came aboutTypical day's prioritiesNot being transactional with your timeHow Jamie's days are different now that he's back at workTypical afternoon routine with his sonHow things are different today versus last yearDifficulty juggling working from homeIncorporating children into choresWhat does being a good parent mean to Jamie? How do you want to describe the pandemic to your child in 10-15 years?**If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts? Introducing: Day by Day Dad Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 30, 2020 4:16

What: Creating a resource for expecting dads and new dads that is from a dad’s perspective. Becoming a dad means you now have a new job that occupies 100% of your time. The life you led before becoming a dad is not totally lost and needs to be adapted to the changes that are coming. There are a lot of changes that happen but getting out ahead of those changes and taking inventory of your priorities will help you maintain the lifestyle that is important to your wellbeing. Why: There aren’t enough resources available to dads that are positive in nature. We have a significant role to play during the pregnancy and after the birth of the child. Most of the information is geared towards women while men are left questioning the role they need to occupy. I want to change the impression that men can’t take a more important role in child rearing from the start. I also want to make sure to convey that we don’t need to lose sight of our interests and priorities once the baby comes. We don’t need to become the dad who looks back on his 20s as if they were the best years of his life. Type of guest: Men who have become dads in the last 3-5 years. Men with full-time jobs and other interests they continue to explore on their own time without losing sight of the importance of fatherhood. Format: 5-10 long-form questions including discussion followed by 3-5 short-form questions.
