She still consults as Design Director at Large for Vogue Hong Kong. In 2002 she founded independent photography magazine DayFour, publishing it continuously until 2012. She is Co-Author and Art Director of The Fashion Yearbook, and creative director of books for South African media consultancy Legacy Creates. Between 2013 and 2019, as Art Director of New Markets and Brand Development for Condé Nast International, based in London and Paris, she oversaw all the company's launches – 14 magazines, including seven editions of Vogue. She still consults as Design Director at Large for Vogue Hong Kong. In 2002 she founded independent photography magazine DayFour, publishing it continuously until 2012. She is Co-Author and Art Director of The Fashion Yearbook, and creative director of books for South African media consultancy Legacy Creates. Outside the publishing world, she has been Art Director of contemporary art auction house Phillips de Pury in London and New York, and Consultant Art Director of Russian luxury retail group Mercury/TSUM. In this special conversation Grant Scott speaks with photographers and founders of The Farringdon Print Shop, Jake Chessum, James Dimmock and Chris Floyd, to reflect on editorial photography in the 90s and creating a platform to monetize their joint archives. Jake Chessum's timeless and engaging celebrity portraits have appeared in many prestigious publications and the range of celebrities he has been commissioned to photograph span the worlds of film, politics, sports and music. Born in Croydon, South London, Chessum studied at St. Martin's School of Art and after graduating began his photography career in London, where his first commission was for Elle magazine before he started working for The Face beginning an enduring relationship with the title. In 1999 he moved permanently to NYC where he continues to live. Weeks turned into months. Standing outside Metro Studios in Farringdon dejected. Along came a perky photographer and asks him what's up? The photographer was Jake Chessum who listened to Dimmock's story and gave him the name and number of the owner of a studio and said to mention him. James began his career shooting for British style magazines The Face and iD and began to work in the US photographing Moby and Bono for the cover of Spin magazine. This was swiftly followed by Metallica, Radiohead, and AC/DC for Rolling Stone. He moved to London in 1990 to pursue a career in photography having completed a BTec Photography course. In this special extended episode UNP founder and curator Grant Scott engages in a conversation with UK based photographer, Harry Borden about the importance his YouTube channel and how to use the platform to remain relevant and engaged with the medium. Harry Borden was born in New York and brought up on a farm in Devon in the South West of England. He studied photography at Plymouth College of Art and Design. Borden moved to London after graduation, where he worked as an assistant for the photographer Lester Bookbinder. He received his first commission from The Observer in 1994 and continued to work for the title until the present day photographing celebrities, musicians, creatives and politicians. Examples of Borden's work are held in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, London and National Portrait Gallery, Australia and appeared regularly in Harpers & Queen, Vogue and The New Yorker. In June 2005, he had his first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London titled Harry Borden: On Business which included 30 portraits of leading business leaders. In 2017 his book Survivor, A Portrait of the Survivors of the Holocaust was published having been shortlisted for the European Publishers Award for Photography in 2014. It was later judged among the 10 best photography books of 2018 by the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation. In 2021 his second book Single Dad was published by Hoxton Mini Press. He continues to work on a commissioned basis and on personal work, whilst also lecturing on the MA Professional Photography at Oxford Brookes University. Peter Fetterman Born in London, Peter Fetterman has been deeply involved in the medium of photography for over thirty years. Initially a filmmaker, producer and collector, he set up his first gallery over twenty years ago. Fetterman was one of the pioneer tenants of Bergamot Station, the Santa Monica Center of the Arts when it first opened in 1994. Designing sustainable tall buildings is no mean feat. Especially when the average lifespan of a commercial office building can be as little as 20 years. Oliver Tyler, Managing Director of WilkinsonEyre, one of the world’s leading architecture firms, spends his time doing exactly that. Delivering projects like the Battersea Power Station redevelopment and the award winning 8 Bishopsgate building in London with engineering and sustainability at the forefront. He’s helped build some of the most remarkable landmarks in the world. It seems his career was destiny. Aged eight or nine he was told, ‘you ought to be an architect’, thanks to his interest in building things and drawing things. Around the same time his parents were rebuilding a property, and the process of seeing drawings manifest into a built form captured his imagination for good. Tyler’s other key projects include the recently completed Elizabeth Line Liverpool Street Station, the £500 million reconstruction and oversite development of London's Bank Station and the Emirates Air Line cable car over the River Thames. He has a particular interest in the technical development of materials and the advancement of building envelope design and has guest lectured at Oxford Brookes University, is an editorial board member of the New Steel Construction magazine and sits on the judging panel for the Structural Steel Design Awards. I'm delighted to speak with Dr Sam Thrower and Prof Chris Harwood this week. We discuss parent education and support strategies in youth sport. Sam is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at Oxford Brookes University. His main research interests lie in the area of youth sport and specifically the psychosocial development of young athletes. He is particularly interested in topics such as parenting in sport, sport-confidence, motivational climates and stress and coping. Sam's research in these areas has been published in a range of leading international journals including: ‘Psychology of Sport & Exercise', ‘Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise & Health', ‘Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology', ‘Journal of Applied Sport Psychology' and 'Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology'. His current research focuses on parent-child interactions and the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based sport parent education programmes. Chris is the Director of the Sport, Health and Performance Enhancement (SHAPE) Research Centre at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). He is a Professor of Sport Psychology at NTU where his research focuses on the psychosocial aspects of athlete development, wellbeing and performance including the roles of the coach, parents, and the wider social and organisational environment. Chris is particularly focused on the integration of psychological principles into youth sport settings and his applied research is characterised by working with the support system around young people. Chris is also prominent in the area of professional development, supervision and training of sport psychologists in the UK and international systems.

In this special episode Grant Scott speaks with Julian Lennon. In a broad ranging conversation they discuss photography, truth, the documentation of memories and the importance of friends and travel to creativity. Julian Lennon is a musician, photographer, author, philanthropist and the son of John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia. Lennon started his music career in 1984 with the album Valotte, and has released six further albums. He has held exhibitions of his photography and written several children's books. In 2006, Lennon produced the environmental documentary film Whaledreamers, which won eight international awards. In 2007, he founded The White Feather Foundation (TWFF), whose stated mission goal is to address "environmental and humanitarian issues". In 2020, he was executive producer of the Netflix documentary Kiss the Ground concerning regenerative agriculture and the follow-up film Common Ground. In 2022, Lennon was executive producer of the documentary film Women of the White Buffalo, which chronicles the lives of women living on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. After photographing his half-brother Sean's music tour in 2007, Lennon developed a serious interest in photography. In 2010, his exhibition of 35 photographs called Timeless: The Photography of Julian Lennon with help from long-time friend and fellow photographer Timothy White was held at the Morrison Hotel Gallery, New York. His Alone collection was featured at the Art Basel Miami Beach Show in 2012, and his Horizon series was featured at the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery, New York in 2015. Lennon's Cycle exhibit was featured at the Leica Gallery in Los Angeles, in 2016. In 2023, he showed a series of photographs titled ATMOSPHERIA at the William Turner Gallery in Santa Monica, California. I'm delighted to speak with Rusty Earnshaw and Danny Newcombe on this week's episode. Rusty is a coach and former professional rugby union player. Rusty has played Premiership rugby with West Hartlepool, Bath Rugby and Rotherham Titans, winning the European Cup whilst at Bath. In 2000 he was selected to play for the Barbarians. And he also represented England on the IRB Sevens circuit. Since his playing days he has held various positions at the Rugby Football Union, including International Performance Coach. He is now Director at The Magic Academy, which works across sport and business supporting the development of individuals and teams. Danny is a coach and coach developer. He is currently Senior Coach Development Manager at The Premier League. Until recently, he was a Senior Lecturer in Sport, Coaching and PE in the department of Sport, Health Sciences and Social Work at Oxford Brookes University, UK. He now holds a visiting research fellow post at Oxford Brookes.  Danny is also an international and domestic national league hockey coach. He is currently the head coach of the Men's Welsh National Team and works extensively with a number of partners in the coach development space. I speak with Rusty and Danny about their considerable coaching experiences and we break down some of the skills they use in their own coaching practices.

He founded the United Nations of Photography in 2012, and is now a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, and a BBC Radio contributor. Scott is the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Routledge 2014), The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Routledge 2015), New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography (Routledge 2019), and What Does Photography Mean To You? (Bluecoat Press 2020). His photography has been published in At Home With The Makers of Style (Thames & Hudson 2006) and Crash Happy: A Night at The Bangers (Cafe Royal Books 2012). His film Do Not Bend: The Photographic Life of Bill Jay was premiered in 2018. In this monthly conversation series Grant Scott speaks with art director, lecturer and creative director Fiona Hayes. In an informal conversation each month Grant and Fiona comment on the photographic environment as they see it through the exhibitions, magazines, talks and events that Fiona has seen over the previous weeks. Fiona Hayes Fiona Hayes is an art director, designer, consultant and lecturer with over 30 years' experience in publishing, fashion and the art world. She has been a magazine art director ten times: on Punch, Company, Eve, the British and Russian editions of Cosmopolitan, House & Garden,GQ India (based in Mumbai), MyselfGermany (in Munich), and Russian Vogue (twice). Between 2013 and 2019, as Art Director of New Markets and Brand Development for Condé Nast International, based in London and Paris, she oversaw all the company's launches – 14 magazines, including seven editions of Vogue. She still consults as Design Director at Large for Vogue Hong Kong. In 2002 she founded independent photography magazine DayFour, publishing it continuously until 2012. She is Co-Author and Art Director of The Fashion Yearbook, and creative director of books for South African media consultancy Legacy Creates. Outside the publishing world, she has been Art Director of contemporary art auction house Phillips de Pury in London and New York, and Consultant Art Director of Russian luxury retail group Mercury/TSUM. (Fiona would like to point out she is not Russian: she is proudly Irish and studied Visual Communication and History of Art and Design at NCAD Dublin.) She currently divides her time between design consultancy for commercial clients, and lecturing at Oxford Brookes University, the Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design, London, Nottingham Trent University, Ravensbourne University, and Leeds University. John sadly passed away earlier this year and I wanted to share this conversation so you can hear the essence of NAPE and their continued support for primary education.This is my celebration and commemoration of John who has influenced me greatly.John Coe began teaching in Essex. After primary headships, first of a small rural school and then of an urban school serving an underprivileged community; he joined the West Riding of Yorkshire authority as Inspector of Schools. His second local authority appointment extended over 16 years as Senior Adviser to Oxfordshire. In 1984 he moved into Higher Education as Course Leader of the PGCE Primary Course at the London Institute of Education. A later move to Oxford Brookes University involved him in research and both initial and in-service education.
