Hello and welcome! To another episode of the Expat Coffee break podcast, my name is Javier and this show is dedicated to sharing personal experiences of immigrants and telling their stories of what it´s like to move to a new country. This is part three of my conversation with my friend Martin sharing his experience immigrating to the United States. Martin immigrated to the United States from Mexico two years ago, he did it with an L1B Work Visa which is for intracompany transferees, meaning, he was already working for the company that sponsored the visa and got a job offer that led to the Visa. In this episode, Martin shares what were the cultural shocks that we´ve faced, some funny stories ordering in the drive thru, and the challenge for Martin´s son trying to interact with other children that don´t speak spanish. . Keep in mind the main focus of this content is sharing our personal experience, we are by no means considered experts, and we are not giving a guide on "how to" live abroad, each person would have a different situation or process, and in this podcast, we share our personal experience. With our story and sharing the experiences that you don´t usually know about until you have already moved, we hope to assist in making a more educated decision to whoever is interested in immigrating to the United States, whether it is with a Professional Career and Working Visa, or trying to build up from scratch. Whether you are considering immigrating to the United States and want to learn more, or just looking to learn about the USA from an immigrant´s experience, this podcast is for you. My name is Javier, and in this episode, I will share my experience making new friends in Minnesota and what it was like for a Mexican to live the American Midwest Culture. Was it hard? Was it easy? How did people react to having a Mexican around? Did I blend in? Did I even tried to blend in? chuckles. Like I mentioned in previous episodes, I was somewhat familiarized with American culture, but most of what I've seen growing up was the Southern part of California, which has a warm weather most of the time and has a huge Hispanic population, heck, it was hard for me to speak English whenever I visited my family in California. But in Minnesota, that is part of the United States Midwest, I got to live a quite different experience. I will talk about my experience making friends in Minnesota, embracing the outdoor activities like fishing and camping, and overall, what is my experience meeting new people. Spoiler alert, it has been a great experience, I can´t complaint, except, maybe for the snow. Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Expat Coffee Break, a podcast dedicated to sharing personal experiences of immigrants and telling their stories about living abroad. My name is Javier, and in this episode, I have a very dear friend sharing his story of immigrating to the United States. Oscar immigrated to the United States from Mexico when he was nineteen years old. He has been living abroad for over twenty years, and in that time, he jumped from several jobs, learned about life, jumped some hoops and created a beautiful family. He is now a full time dad, operating his own business and working on his higher education. Oscar is the perfect example of a human being that is always striving to do better despite his conditions. In this episode, Oscar shares his experience growing up in Mexico, why he moved to the United States, how he immigrated, what was his first job, how did he felt moving to the US at nineteen and knowing almost nobody. Oscar´s personal experience has had many ups and downs, and you can tell by the level of energy of this episode that things were not easy. He is one of my dearest friends that I have met while living in the United States, and of course, this is one of my favorite episodes so far. By sharing this story and hearing about experiences that you don´t usually know about until you have already moved, I hope to assist in making a more educated decision to whoever is interested in immigrating from a developing country to the United States trying to build up a career starting with an entry level job, such as dish washer or cooking fast food. Oscar´s personal experience has had many ups and downs, and you can tell by the level of energy of this episode that, things were not easy. It is not easy, and Oscar has something to say about that. Whether you are considering immigrating to the United States and want to learn more, or just looking to learn about the USA from an immigrant´s experience, this podcast is for you. Reach out!
