Do you find it hard to make new friends lately? Have your friendships changed as you've gotten older? Why does making new friends as an adult feel like running a marathon with no finish line? Today, Jay takes us on a thoughtful journey into the world of adult friendships — where connections aren’t forged on playgrounds or dorm rooms anymore, but instead in between meetings, family commitments, and the weight of life’s expectations. Jay peels back the layers of why forming new bonds can feel so exhausting as we grow older. He reveals how our changing priorities, unhealed wounds, and limited energy all shape how — and with whom — we connect. With warmth and wisdom, he invites us to explore what true friendship really looks like in adulthood, and why it’s less about quantity and more about alignment, presence, and purpose. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Let Go of Friendships That No Longer Serve You How to Stop Forcing Deep Bonds Too Quickly How to Approach Friendship with Curiosity Instead of Expectation How to Stay Open to New Relationships at Any Age How to Cultivate Meaningful Conversations that Matter Friendships don’t have to be instant to be real. Trust that the right connections will meet you when you show up as your authentic self. Have you ever met someone who seemed nice, engaged with her a few times, then something happened that made you think, “NOPE! This friendship isn't for me.” Perhaps that happened to you. You met, hung out, then nada - you never heard from her again. What happened???   We all have our relationship warning signs or red flags - the things that make us think the relationship just won't work out. And other people have them, too. And, that's okay! Those little warning signs are how we protect ourselves from relationships that just aren't right for us - for whatever reason.   When you see the warning signs, what do you do? Do you try to power through and build a friendship anyway (not advised) or do you move on to someone who might be a better fit for you?   Everyone is different, and everyone has their own relationship warning signs. In this episode, I share five of the warning signs I just can't ignore when making new friends. You may have a different list, but it IS important to give some thought to which behaviors and habits you will and will not tolerate in a relationship. Then, if you're serious about making and keeping friends, consider if there's anything YOU'RE doing that might be a turnoff to others.   Next Steps: Listen to the episode. If you like the episode, share it with a friend or on social media. Leave a comment about the episode in the Women, Community, and Facebook group. Talking about friendship is a lot more fun when I get to hear YOUR thoughts, too.   Do you like this episode? This week it's the comfort and familiarity that can only be brought to you by Mike and Bill. Mike started off with his reading and it was about kindness. The idea that rude people are the strong ones gets smashed and living a life of kindness is what we strive for. It was a great conversation. We talked about our language and apparently we are fans of the "F" word. Guess how many we gave last week. Our search results, Dr. Drew again, a strange encounter at a rest area, making amends, learning to pray and being alone versus being lonely. We also did a wrap up on Mike's radio gig last week. Some laughs, some nonsense and just enough talk about sobriety to live up to the title. Enjoy the episode.
