Success in Fantasy Football is 50% the draft, 30% managing your team during the season and 20% good old-fashioned luck. You're not going to waiver wire and trade your way out of a bad draft. I am here to help you win your draft and win your league. This podcast talks about all aspects of fantasy football to help you find the players that will offer both value and upside for your fantasy team. I have a live draft tool called "My Perfect Fantasy Draft" which you can access exclusively through my website FantasyFootballMaverick.com. Thanks for listening!
Another week is in the books but you never stop improving your team. I've got the names you need to put in claims for this week including several that are IMMEDIATE STARTERS for your fantasy team. I also talk about streaming Defenses for week 3.
I really love this team because I was able to stack Chris Godwin with Tom Brady AND George Kittle/Brandon Aiyuk with Trey Lance! This draft was done before CEH's ankle injury so hopefully that's not too severe. What do you think of this team?
This is my third tier podcast, please check out my tier rankings for Standard Points (non-PPR) and PPR with TE Premium (1.5 PPR) below. Once again it is shocking to see different the tier rankings are for the same player in different types of leagues. While some are very stable, Christian McCaffrey is #1 regardless of point schedule, that is not the case with most players. Thanks for watching! As you know, not all positions in Fantasy Football are rated equally. When you look at who will be available on the waiver wire after the draft is done, you will see that some positions are easier to replace than others. I let you know how many of each position type you should draft this season. Thanks for listening! Get My Perfect Fantasy Draft here: https://fantasyfootballmaverick.com
I've been doing a lot of best ball drafts on Yahoo but they use 10-team leagues. Underdog fantasy allows different sizes of teams and I am far more interested in 12-team as those are the leagues I play in with my season long fantasy. I use My Perfect Fantasy Draft's Best Ball mode to help me select players and end up with an excellent team (Underdog rated me 2nd best for projected points). What do you think of this team? Thanks for listening! Access My Perfect Fantasy Draft here: https://fantasyfootballmaverick.com
In 10-team and smaller leagues every team has awesome starters and they have a deep bench. So how can you get an edge? I use positional dominance to get myself a top 3 option in both the TE and QB position to help win those positions each week. I use this strategy in this draft to get a pretty awesome lineup with really high upside. What do you think of this team? Thanks for listening!
Last week I did a tier based rankings for a PPR with TE Premium (1.5 PPR) and let me just say the results were shocking! Even though I'm not a big fan of tiers, it was a good exercise and it brought forward a few players that previously I had not been real interested in. I decided it would be good to do the same thing for Standard Points (non-PPR) leagues and again, the results were unexpected. What do you think of these tiers?
Week 7 has been affectionately called the byepocalypse for fantasy because 6 fantasy relevant teams will not be playing that week: Dallas, Minnesota, LA Chargers, Jacksonville, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. However, what if you use this to your advantage? The Bye week strategy is to only draft players from those teams. Of course this means week 7 will be a loss, but on the flip side, your team will be at full strength for every other week of the season while all the other teams will have to deal with their bye weeks (week 6 - week 14). I'm usually not keen on this strategy but this year might be the exception. What do you think? Thanks for listening!
The Fantasy Football Players Championship is a High Stakes Tournament that I've participated in (and won) over the past couple seasons. Even though I'm not a big fan of tier based player lists, I decided to do this as an exercise to see how I would break down my tiers and who the steals and duds were for each tier. Let me say, some of this is shocking - including a first round player who offers Tier 6 value! The players have all been ranked based on PPR scoring with a TE Premium (TEs get 1.5 PPR). I think I'm going to have to do this for all the different scoring system's I'm in. Thanks for listening!
The Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) is a high stakes tournament that I have been playing in for the past few years (with great success). I have 3 entries this year and I was just notified that I got the #1 pick in one of those tournaments. I've already done a podcast about my reservations of taking CMC with my first pick (the fantasy playoffs in this league start week 13, which is his bye week) so I decide to do a robust RB strategy and see if that can make me feel better about taking him first. What do you think of this team? Thanks for listening!
There is an amazing differential between then the last Top 100 value player is available depending on position. Wide Receivers and Quarterbacks are amazingly deep, allowing you to wait the longest. Running Backs and especially Tight Ends are just the opposite and demand you spend early picks on them unless you want to be left out in the cold. Here is the last top 100 value player available in each position for fantasy.
Stefon Diggs was absolutely amazing for fantasy football last season. A guy that averaged just over 100 targets/season in Minnesota came out and got 150 targets and ended up as a top 3 WR. The best part, if you took him, was how inexpensive he was on the draft board. This season we have 3 WRs that changed teams and have very reasonable ADP. Which one of these guys has the potential to do what Diggs did in 2020?
Having a late round pick is quite difficult. All of the elite RBs are off the board by the time they get to you, but there are still super elite WRs and TEs available. In this PPR league I decide to bypass RBs in favor of Travis Kelce and two elite WRs before I select my first RB. Tell me what you think of this lineup?
I am just about fed up with Yahoo's ratings of my fantasy best ball teams. In this league I drafted Kareem Hunt and Ja'Marr Chase and both those guys aren't good enough to be projected as week 1 starters yet I'm rated as the 9th best team. What do you think of this lineup? I am flummoxed at these projections as they don't seem to be reflecting reality. Thanks for listening!
James Robinson Rocketed to fantasy relevance on August 31, 2020 when the Jacksonville Jaguars released their workhorse RB, Leonard Fournette. This is one reason why I like to wait as long as possible to have my fantasy drafts. Robinson was selected right at around pick #100 and ended up returning a RB7 performance, which is an absolutely astounding value! I look at 3 Rookie RBs and see if they have the potential to duplicate that kind of performance this fantasy season. Thanks for listening!
I decide to double up on KC stars by taking Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill with my first two picks. I think I build a damn good team but Yahoo savaged me on my RB selections. Thanks for watching!
Last season Robby Anderson was selected around pick #156. He ended as a solid WR2 for your fantasy team. I look at Wide Receivers available after pick #135 that have that same upside for the 2021 season. Thanks for listening!
When you pick towards the end of the 1st round, you can face a real conundrum. The reason is because all the elite RBs are gone but there are still elite options available at WR and TE. I decide to try the zero RB strategy where I use the first 5 rounds to load up on elite WRs, along with an elite TE and QB. I use My Perfect Fantasy Draft to select only high reliability players from the app. I actually like this team and feel the advantage I gained in the non-RB categories can more than offset the weakness I will have at RB. Thanks for listening!
Here is my next entry into Yahoo Best Ball. I use My Perfect Fantasy Draft to help pick players and even though I said I'm not going to try to stack anything, I end up with an excellent Seattle stack (5 players including Russell Wilson). According to Yahoo, this is my strongest team so far as I ranked 5th for points overall. Maybe I'm starting to get the hang of this, plus my app will be updated for best ball sometime this week.
The first three rounds of the draft will have 20 Running Backs taken but only 12 Wide Receivers (the other 4 are the elite TEs and Patrick Mahomes). This means by the fourth round you are going to have to choose between a low end RB2 or a borderline WR1/WR2 for your fantasy team. Here's what you need to know: The most valuable RB in the 4th round is LESS VALUABLE than the least valuable WR in this round. The value gap only worsens from this point forward. too. Thanks for listening!
The bye week strategy is where you take all players with the same bye week. Basically you take the loss on that bye week but every other week has the team at full strength. This season there are 6 teams on bye for week 7 and all of them are excellent fantasy teams: MIN, DAL, BUF, LAC, PIT & JAX. I use the bye week filter on My Perfect Fantasy Draft to see what kind of team we can build and it turns out pretty well even if I went off of the strategy for two of my picks. Thanks for listening!
My Perfect Fantasy Draft calculates a VORC score (Value-Outlook-Reliability-Consistency) to help you compare players against each other on an apples to apples basis. I give you the 3 highest scoring players in the second round along with the lowest scoring player. Thanks for listening!
Last week I did a draft where I only took contract year players and it turned out very well. This week, I'm going to only take players in either their first or second season in the NFL. I'm using My Perfect Fantasy Draft with the Show Me Only filter to set my list. Will this also be a highly rated team? I start out drafting Jonathan Taylor and Clyde Edwards-Helaire and go from there. Thanks for listening!
A handcuff is a backup to a starting RB. I'm usually not big on drafting them but these three have tremendous opportunity because the guy in front of them gets injured a lot. I also love where these guys are on the draft board, mostly a last round draft pick for your team meaning they are extremely low risk. Should the starter get injured, the workload will fall to them and they immediately become fantasy viable. Thanks for listening!
My first live draft of the season. I'm going to do a bunch of these because once the draft is done, you don't need to do anything else. There are no trades, pickups or managing in best ball. It's draft and then watch how the team does during the 2021 season. Yahoo Best Ball leagues are half PPR, with 10 teams. I am at pick #4. This is my first time drafting for a Best Ball team and the rules are a little different. For one thing, you don't need to worry about consistency when it comes to your players because you don't have to roster anybody, the highest scoring players will get rostered into your starting positions. The draft goes very well and I love my team and the upside it offers. I'm going to be doing more of these in the coming months.
One of the cool things about my app is it makes it easy to try different strategies. I've made no secret that I love contract year players because of the upside they offer. My Perfect Fantasy Draft marks all the players who have their rookie contract expiring in either 2021 (gold dollar sign) or 2022 (silver dollar sign). I use a filter to only show those players that have the gold or silver dollar sign and try to only draft those players. This is a draft on FantasyPros using their draft simulator. Half PPR, 12-team, pick #4. Although I would have done some things different, the team turns out very well and I would love to bring a team like this into the regular season.
My draft tool, My Perfect Fantasy Draft, rates all players based on a VORC score (Value-Outlook-Reliability-Consistency). These three players rate poorly on at least one of these 4 key stats and because of that, their score suffers and this indicates you should just stay away because the risk is too high for your fantasy team.
There are a number of players currently marked with an injury designation. Some are for injuries suffered last season, some are recovering from surgery and some are more recent. One thing you can be sure of is that no coach will be honest about the actual health of their player. Here's how I deal with injured players and when I consider them back to full health.
The draft tool, My Perfect Fantasy Draft, is finally ready to go and I take it on a test drive for my first mock draft of the season. I'm the first pick in a 12-team, Half PPR draft. I conduct this draft on the FantasyPros Draft Simulator. I call the first pick the blessing and the curse because if you nail that first pick, your team is golden but if you blow it your team will be fighting an uphill battle all season (think about the people who took CMC or Saquon first in last year's draft). The draft goes very well and I end up with some excellent value players. FantasyPros rated this team 91 out of 100. Not bad for a first try. I'd be super happy to take this team with me into the regular season.
The Julio Jones Trade has a huge impact on both the Atlanta and Tennessee franchises. I review all the major players to see if they're a winner or a loser as a result of this trade and there are three players that I really like post trade but none of them are Julio Jones! Thanks for listening.
I'm super excited because I'm almost done with My Perfect Fantasy Draft and it will help you rock your fantasy draft this season. One of the things i love about the app is that certain players pop once you put in their data and that's what happened with these three rookies. All of them offer great value and should definitely be on your target list this year.
When it comes to Quarterbacks, the Top 5 do provide you with some week to week upside, but those guys will all be gone by 6th round. After that point the points really level out into what I call "The Plateau". That means the difference between the #6 QB and the #16 QB is less than 3 points/week. The difference between the #9 QB and the #16 QB is about 1 point/week. For this reason I always like to target a QB late and here are three guys sitting outside the Top 12 that offer QB1 value. These guys are available Round 12 or later, and two of these guys I'm totally comfortable taking as my QB starter this season. Thanks for listening!
A Bounce Back (or reversion) player is either a player that scored an unusually low amount of Touchdowns relative to their volume or someone who played at a very high level, but missed a lot of games due to injury. All these players are marked with a bounce back icon on my app so they're easy to spot and this increases their outlook and VORC score, making them easy to spot when using My Perfect Fantasy Draft. Here are the 4 RBs with this designation this year. Thanks for listening!
The Tight End position has been terrible for years now. Basically you have 3 elite options (Kelce, Kittle and Waller) and everyone else sucks. Last year's #3 Tight End scored as many points as the 40th best receiver - worse than flex value! Unfortunately, Tight Ends are notoriously overdrafted relative to their production. We've got 5 Tight Ends on a contract year but all of them offer terrible value so even if they overperform, they're still going to bring your team down. Here's my strategy to overcome the weakness of this position!
Value is one of the most important things I look at when it comes to evaluating players. My Perfect Fantasy Draft assigns a value rank to each players allowing you to easily compare that rank against their draft position. This allows you to easily see who is overvalued, fair valued and undervalued relative to their draft position. I have found 4 players that are available after pick #50 that offer Top 50 value for your team.
I love contract year players because of the upside they offer and this year there are a bunch of them. Some are in better situations than others to succeed and these three guys offer the most upside and value of the lot.
I love contract year players because of the upside. In my app I identify all players coming off their rookie contract with either a gold dollar sign (meaning their contract expires at the end of this season) or a silver dollar sign (meaning their contract expires after the 2022 season). Both designations offer bonuses to their outlook and VORC score but depending on the type of player, certain designations are better than others. I'm letting you know which contract year Running Backs I like the most this season and there are some good ones! Thanks for Listening! !
The NFL draft was fantastic and now we know where these talented, young players will be this season. I review fantasy players from the first round to see which ones have immediate fantasy value and which ones you don't need to bother with drafting this season. Thanks for listening!
There is a high number of players this season with 1 year "Prove It" contracts, including 4 in the top 100 players. I look at those guys to see if they are fantasy viable and discuss what other players I would actually draft on a 1-year deal. Thanks for Listening!
I make no secret about being very bullish on contract year players. in My Perfect Fantasy Draft, all players coming off their rookie contract are marked with either a gold dollar (contract expires after this season) or a silver dollar (contract expires after the 2022 season). Both these designations gives a bonus to the player's outlook, which also raises their VORC score. This season there are 6 QBs with a contract year designation, I look at all of them and discuss which ones are best for fantasy. Thanks for listening!
In general, I've always considered a coaching change to be a positive thing. By the time a coach is fired, his team has pretty much quit on him and some fresh blood can invigorate a team. Look at the success first year coaches like Kevin Stefanski, Matt Rhule and Frank Reich had at their new coaching gigs in 2020. We have 6 new coaches in the NFL for 2021 and I go over each and figure out which ones are in the best position to succeed. Thanks for listening!
I'm back, baby! Rested, recharged and ready to help you kill it in 2021! I have very specific criteria when it comes to players I think will regress. I added a regression tag to my draft app last year to identify those players and mostly steer clear of them. The regression tag worked very well and so I'm looking forward to 2021 and what players are at biggest risk to regress using that same criteria. Thanks for watching!
I hope your season ended in success and a championship! I couldn't be happier that 2020 is done! I'm joined by 94 Rock's Swami Rob to talk about the season that was and who is our Fantasy MVP, biggest surprise and biggest bust. It's now time to enjoy the NFL playoffs and I'll be back after the Super Bowl to start strategizing your 2021 fantasy draft. Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks for listening!
The playoffs are here, so the players you start are more important than ever! I'm joined by Swami Rob to go over each game and look at who's good to start and who you should sit. Thanks for listening!
I'm having a great fantasy week! Winning two championships on the Fantasy Football Players Championship and making the playoffs in my friends league on the final week of the regular season. Whether you're getting ready for the playoffs or are desperately trying to make the playoffs in the final week of the season, you need to consider these players to add to your roster now. Thanks for listening!
Week 13 is a critical week for fantasy. Most of us are jockeying for playoff position or desperately trying to get that last playoff spot. I hope your team wasn't too reliant on the two week 13 bye teams (Tamps Bay & Carolina). I go over all the games for this weekend and let you know where the good matchups are and what players you need to steer clear of. Thanks for listening.
The waiver wire is a bit thin but there are some decent options you need to know about, especially if you stream QBs and Defenses. Thanks for listening!
All hands on deck as no teams are on a bye this week. I have Swami Rob of the 94 Rock Morning Show on to talk about week 12 and all the games happening this week. Thanks for Watching!
Swami Rob from the 94 Rock Morning Show joins me to discuss the upcoming schedule of games and who we're going to start and sit. I think the frustration of this fantasy season is starting to get to Swami! Thanks for Watching!
There are outstanding opportunities at Running Back this week along with several other positions. I also let you know about great QB and DEF streaming options for week 11.
