Have you ever been told that the thing you need to get better doesn't exist on the NHS but quietly, it does? This week I'm joined by Dr. Simon Erridge, medical doctor, UCL researcher, and one of the UK's leading voices in medical cannabis. Simon has a way of cutting through the stigma and the noise and what he shares isn't about getting high. It's about patients who've tried everything, suffered for years, and finally found relief. What we explore together:What medical cannabis actually is  and why it's nothing like what you probably picture when you hear the word cannabisWhy the UK is one of the highest opioid-prescribing countries in the world, and what that tells us about how we treat chronic painWhat's actually happening in the brain with PTSD and how medical cannabis can help decouple the trauma from the memory itselfThe shocking contamination rates in illicit cannabis, and why the black market route puts people at real riskWho shouldn't use medical cannabis, and the conditions where it's not appropriateThe full range of conditions being treated right now: from migraines, Crohn's disease and MS to anxiety, depression, OCD and cancer-related symptomsIf you or someone you love has been living with chronic pain, PTSD, endometriosis, or any condition that feels like it has no solution this one is for you.Love, Sarah Ann

What if rest isn't laziness… but obedience? In this episode of the Father On Purpose Podcast, Kent and Lawson explore one of the most overlooked rhythms in modern Christian life: Sabbath. Starting with the biblical significance of numbers like 3, 7, 12, and 40, the conversation quickly turns practical as they unpack why God built rest into creation itself. Why did God rest on the seventh day if He wasn't tired? What does Sabbath actually look like for busy dads with careers, kids, sports schedules, and endless responsibilities? Is this just an Old Testament rule, or is there still wisdom in it for Christian fathers today? Kent shares how his family intentionally protects a weekly rhythm of rest, connection, and trust in God. Lawson wrestles honestly with how difficult Sabbath can feel in real life, especially for dads who have spent years running nonstop. This episode is a grounded, biblical, and practical conversation about work, trust, faith, family rhythms, and learning to slow down before burnout forces you to. If you've ever felt like there's never enough time, this conversation is for you.    Want to shape the direction of the show this year? The latest, Don't Bench Yourself: How to Stay in the Game Even When You Want to Quit, aims to help dads stay present in their roles as fathers and husbands even when they feel like giving up. Kent's life has been radically affected by godly mentors and his lovely wife, April. They have been married thirty years and have five sons and one daughter-in-law. He lives in Louisville, Kentucky.   Lawson Brown is husband to his high school sweetheart, a father of two young adult daughters, has been a business leader since 1995, and is a former Marine. Are you eating more fiber but still dealing with bloating or gut pain? That can happen when you increase fiber faster than your gut can handle, and it's why the type of fiber and the pace you add it really matters. This clip explores why fiber is described as a key “longevity nutrient,” with evidence linked to lower risk of major diseases like heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer's, and chronic kidney disease. This segment examines what fiber actually is, where it comes from (all plant foods, plus mushrooms as an “honorary plant”), and the practical difference between soluble and insoluble fiber. We also talk about why variety matters, how fiber feeds the gut microbiome and supports short chain fatty acid production, and why focusing on protein shouldn't come at the expense of fiber when most people are already under-consuming it.Will Bulsiewicz in conversation with Sarah Ann Listen to the full episode here.Watch the full episode on YouTube here.***This episode is sponsored by:NOWATCH: The compassionate health trackerConnecting body and mind with unique stress recovery insights so you can live fully today15% off with code LWBW15 at https://nowatch.com/DIOME: Rest deeper. There's an entire industry built on the idea that if you hate yourself enough, you'll eventually change. And yet everything we know about shame tells us the opposite is true. So why do we keep going back there? And more importantly, what does it actually take to break free? This week on Live Well Be Well, I'm sitting down with Shahroo Izadi, Behavioural Change Specialist, NHS clinical trainer, and bestselling author of The Kindness Method and The Last Diet. Shahroo spent years working in addiction recovery, and what she found there transformed not only her professional understanding of change, but her own relationship with food, her body, and herself. We go deep into why so many of us associate change with self-loathing, why willpower alone will always fail us, and how the tools used in addiction recovery hold the blueprint for any meaningful behaviour change. Shahroo also shares her own story with complete honesty, including binge eating, a gastric band, eight stone lost, and what finally made the difference. This is one of those conversations that reframes everything. Here's what we dive into:- How shame becomes the enemy of lasting habit change.- Why the only habit worth learning is how to change habits.- What addiction recovery gets right that mainstream wellness misses.- How to interrupt the shame spiral after a setback.- Why body neutrality is a more honest goal than body positivity.Love,Sarah Ann

Are you getting short-term relief from bodywork, only for the pain to return a few weeks later? In this clip, I talk through why hands-on treatments can feel amazing in the moment but may not create lasting change if you're relying on someone else to “fix” you, and why movement and self-care matter so much for long-term healing. This clip explores how fascia and global body tension can influence recurring pain, why aggressive fascia release can look (and feel) intense, and how a slower, more intentional approach may support the body's own ability to reset. We also discuss walking as a powerful daily practice, why brisk walking is linked with a lower dementia risk, and the idea of walking backwards as a way to challenge the brain and build new movement pathways. Plus, there's a fascinating look at performance work with elite athletes, including why improving a jump can start with learning how to land, and how slow joint movements (around four centimeters per second) are used to reprogram movement patterns.Jason Van Blerk in conversation with Sarah Ann Listen to the full episode here.Watch the full episode on YouTube here.***This episode is sponsored by:NOWATCH: The compassionate health trackerConnecting body and mind with unique stress recovery insights so you can live fully today15% off with code LWBW15 at https://nowatch.com/DIOME: Rest deeper. Welcome back, Mindset Fam!In this powerful episode of Don't Touch My Mindset, Jay Chase dives deep into a message many ambitious people desperately need to hear: you do not have to burn yourself out to build something meaningful. After nearly five years of building the podcast, community, business, and balancing a full-time career, Jay reflects on the lessons he's learned about ambition, discipline, recovery, and protecting your peace in a world addicted to hustle culture. This episode challenges the idea that exhaustion is proof of success.Because the truth is:You don't burn out because you work hard. You burn out because you never pause long enough to recover.Jay opens the episode with gratitude for the growth of the DTMM community and reflects on how focus, consistency, and intentional seasons of growth helped shape the journey over the last five years. One of the biggest realizations? Sustainable success requires sustainable rhythms. At 01:37, Jay introduces the concept of the “rested hustle” — the ability to pursue your goals with ambition while still honoring your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Too often, people wear stress, overworking, and exhaustion like badges of honor while sacrificing peace, creativity, and clarity along the way.At 05:31, Jay shares a vulnerable personal story about a wake-up call earlier this year when nonstop pressure and constant movement resulted in a severe tension headache and an ER visit. That moment forced him to confront a hard truth: recovery is not optional. This episode introduces a practical framework for maintaining ambition without anxiety:

Do your gut symptoms ever feel so painful you worry something is seriously wrong? In this conversation, we talk about why digestive pain can feel intense, even with issues like trapped wind and constipation, and how the gut's huge nerve supply plays a role. This clip explores the science of gut pain, including how the intestines sense discomfort differently to our fingertips, and why having around 500 million nerves in the gut can amplify pain signals. We also discuss visceral hypersensitivity, where the gut becomes over-reactive and normal sensations can start to feel painful. I'm exploring with my guest why some gastroenterologists use very low-dose antidepressants for gut symptoms, including SSRIs to influence serotonin, tricyclic antidepressants (often preferred for diarrhea-predominant issues), and SNRIs like Cymbalta for targeting pain, especially when constipation is also present. Throughout, we keep it clear that these medications are not the primary treatment for constipation, but can be part of managing discomfort. Will Bulsiewicz in conversation with Sarah Ann Listen to the full episode here.Watch the full episode on YouTube here.***This episode is sponsored by:NOWATCH: The compassionate health trackerConnecting body and mind with unique stress recovery insights so you can live fully today15% off with code LWBW15 at https://nowatch.com/DIOME: Rest deeper. The Vancouver Canucks cleaned house by firing Adam Foote and the entire coaching staff just days after naming Ryan Johnson GM, continuing a full organizational reset despite the costly decision to eat two years remaining on the coaches’ contracts. Attention now turns to Manny Malhotra as a possible head coach candidate, creating a potentially awkward wrinkle with his son Caleb viewed as a realistic option for Vancouver at third overall in the draft. Elsewhere, the NHL coaching carousel continues in Toronto, Los Angeles and Edmonton, where the Oilers remain interested in Bruce Cassidy while also initiating talks with Craig Berube. Montreal eliminated Buffalo in Game 7 overtime behind strong goaltending from Jakub Dobes, while some of Buffalo’s top players — including Alex Tuch — failed to deliver in key moments and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was questioned for allowing the OT winner by Alex Newhook. Carolina now enters the Eastern Conference Final after a 12-day layoff that could initially create some rust, though the rest should benefit Frederik Andersen most. The Hurricanes’ depth advantage over a tired, short-benched Montreal squad appears to be significant. Out West, Vegas heads into the Western Conference Final against Colorado with injury concerns surrounding Mark Stone, and even if he returns, the Avalanche are viewed by most as the deeper and more complete team.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What if the burden of your work isn't that there's too much to do — but that there's an anxiousness in your soul that no productivity system can fix? This Sunday we looked at Matthew 11:25-30, sitting with the weight of Jesus' invitation to all who are "heavy laden." The Greek word for burden, notably, carries with it not just the image of an animal loaded past its capacity — but the idea of spiritual anxiety, an unsettledness beneath the labor. The problem isn't the workload. It's the heart beneath it.The sermon names what modern marketing has always known: the heart is the most manipulable part of the soul. It longs, aspires, loves — and in a world of unlimited options, it is constantly being pulled toward someone else's end. We pile on not just more work, but more expectations, more routines, more rituals, more rumors of wisdom. We have become a society of excess baggage. And so the work that was meant to free us buries us instead. The answer, Jesus says, is not less work. It's a different heart. "Take my yoke upon you… for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." The yoke is a joining — two laboring together. Not handing off, but sharing. Thus, when our hearts are shaped by and fused with Christ's, the work doesn't merely become easier — it becomes transfigured as rest-full. Work, then, properly received, is itself a way to rest. Spiritual, mental, and bodily satisfaction — not in spite of the labor, but through it. Reflection QuestionsWhat labor and loads have you taken on that are not shared with Christ?Conversely, what labor and loads have you tried to give up that were yours to carry in Christ? In what labor and loads has your soul experienced rest?Scripture: Matthew 11:25-30; Psalm 40:1-8; Romans 12:1-2; John 14:31; Colossians 3:23Voices:Dorothy Sayers, Leading Lives That Matter: what we should do and who we should beTom Nelson, Work Matters: connecting Sunday worship to Monday workSirach 6:24-31 (NRSV)Leon Morris, The Gospel according to Matthew, TPNTSermon Notes & LiturgyWe take a month or so every year to consider, together, the rhythm of creation according to God's design: Sabbath & WorkChrist City Church is a small faith family following Jesus together in east Dallas. Have you ever noticed how a song can instantly change your mood? In this clip, I'm exploring how sound and vibration might influence the body, including stress responses and the way we experience emotions day to day. This clip explores the idea of the body as a “tuning fork”, where music, voice, and environmental frequency may affect us at a cellular level, including through fascia. We also look at visual examples of water and sand responding to specific frequencies and how that connects to the wider conversation about vibration, emotion, and why some people feel others' energy when they enter a room. Exciting news - pre-order my debut book https://linktr.ee/HealthySBTH?utm_source=linktree_profile_shareMost of us are far kinder to strangers than we are to ourselves. We offer warmth, patience, and understanding to everyone around us, and yet when we struggle, we reach for the harshest possible voice. Why is that? And more importantly, what can we do about it?This week on Live Well Be Well, we are exploring the profound and life-changing power of self-compassion, bringing together five extraordinary voices:- Dr. Kristen Neff, whose 20 years of research built the scientific foundation of self-kindness;- Professor Paul Gilbert, founder of Compassion-Focused Therapy;- Philosopher and author Alain de Botton;- Bestselling author Oliver Burkeman;- and gut health physician Dr. Will Bulsiewicz. We dive deep into the biological and psychological reasons why we fight ourselves, and how shifting from a "threat" mindset to one of "care" can fundamentally change our health. Here's what we explore together:- The Three Pillars of Self-Compassion: Dr. Kristen Neff explains why you need kindness, mindfulness, and a sense of shared humanity to truly heal.- Hacking the Nervous System: Professor Paul Gilbert discusses how to move from a "fight, flight, or freeze" response into a "tend and befriend" state.- The Origins of the Inner Critic: Alain de Botton reveals how we internalize the voices of authority from our past and how to start a "goodbye ceremony" to those that no longer serve us.Love,Sarah Ann

We're hitting some UK beers this week. We don't see as many UK beers in the last few years. We miss them. Pressure Drop Brewing from London has been a brewery we've enjoyed a lot over the years. Street Porter is a 4.8% ABV English Porter. It's a classic interpretation of the style. Cloudwater might be our favorite brewery from UK. Based in Manchester, they blew up with their DIPAs but have been running the boards with different styles. Well Rested is an American Barleywine coming in at 11.3% ABV. It was aged in Marsala barrels for 12-months. It gives a strong sherry, toffee flavors.  #beer #craftbeer #drinks #porter #barleywine

And somehow, you still aren't feeling as well as you hoped. That was me at 21, before my body finally found a way to make me listen. This week on Live Well Be Well, I want to talk to you about something I've been sitting with for the last ten years, something I've seen quietly transform the lives of my clients, something that changed the entire direction of my own life, and something I've spent the last year pouring into my new book, Healthy Shouldn't Be This Hard. This episode is a deeply personal one. I trace the thread from my own health collapse at 21 all the way to the $8.5 trillion wellness industry that, despite its size, is leaving most of us feeling worse, not better. We talk about the try-slip-shame-restart cycle so many of us are trapped in, and why we keep mistaking self-criticism for self-improvement. I also dig into two landmark studies that stopped me in my tracks while writing this book: Ellen Langer's hotel maid experiment, which showed that perception alone changed women's weight and blood pressure without a single lifestyle change, and Alia Crum's milkshake study, which revealed that our thoughts directly alter our hunger hormones. The science is clear. Our bodies are listening to everything we think about ourselves.Love,Sarah Ann

This clip explores the idea that prioritising the man is not just something men expect, but something women can reinforce too, often without realising it. We're thrilled to welcome back Dr. E. Kevin Kelloway, Professor of Psychology and Management at Saint Mary's University, to The Safety Guru for a powerful conversation on the critical role of work readiness and the simple yet impactful REDI framework for creating safer workplaces. In this insightful episode, Dr. Kelloway introduces the REDI model, a practical, human-centered approach to assessing work readiness through four key factors: Rested, Emotionally Calm, Distracted, and Impatient/In a hurry. When people are not fully ready for the task at hand, the risk of errors and incidents can rise, especially in high-risk environments. Dr. Kelloway explains how each element of the model influences safety outcomes and decision-making. Through real-world examples, he shares how leaders and teams can apply this framework in practice to spark meaningful conversations before risk is introduced. Tune in to explore how organizations can use this straightforward framework to strengthen safety culture, increase awareness, and create safer workplaces by ensuring every team member is truly REDI for the work ahead. About the Guest: Dr. E. Kevin Kelloway is the University Research Professor and Professor of Psychology and Management at Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia. A prolific researcher, he has authored over 200 articles and chapters and has authored/edited 15 books to date. His research focuses on occupational health psychology and, in particular, how leaders affect health and safety within organizations. Kevin has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science, the Canadian Psychological Association, the International Association for Applied Psychology, and the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology. In 2016, he served as President of the Canadian Psychological Association. Kevin works with both private and public sector clients on issues related to leadership, safety, and HR management, and is a popular speaker at conferences and corporate events. That is exactly where Matt Haig found himself at 24. And what he chose to do with that experience has since helped millions of people feel less alone. This week on Live Well Be Well, I'm sitting down with bestselling author Matt Haig. Over two decades, he has written with raw honesty about depression, anxiety, and neurodiversity. Diagnosed with ADHD and autism in his mid-40s, he writes not to have the answers, but to make you feel like your questions are valid. Here's what we dive into:- How Matt's crisis at 24 in Ibiza, including agoraphobia, panic attacks, and suicidal despair, became the turning point that made him a writer.- Why writing about mental health was never about being an expert, but about finding language so a younger, suffering version of himself could feel less alone.- What a late ADHD and autism diagnosis in midlife actually feels like, and why understanding your brain does not mean you suddenly understand everything about yourself.- How ADHD can be quietly advantageous when you stop fighting it, and why an interest-driven brain can lead to a deeply authentic life.- Why the opposite of depression is not happiness. It is the boring, beautiful neutrality of a mind that can spend one minute thinking about an ordinary email.- How the word "impossible" became Matt's greatest source of motivation: if you survived the most impossible thing, everything else becomes possible too.- How running, routine, and the most unglamorous physical basics were the things that actually brought Matt back.Love,Sarah Ann

A Summit County jury found Kouri Richins guilty of murdering her husband Eric with a lethal dose of fentanyl. No murder weapon recovered. The star witness credibility-damaged on the stand. The defense offering zero witnesses in response. A jury that walked in, by their own public account, hoping to acquit her — and came back unanimous anyway. This week on Hidden Killers, Tony Brueski and retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examine what this verdict was actually built on and what the road ahead looks like for a case that is nowhere near finished. The evidentiary core was never one single piece. It was a pattern. Eric Richins quietly restructured his estate roughly eighteen months before his death, telling his attorney the explicit reason was to protect his children from his wife. That documented fear — formalized in legal paperwork before the fact — sat in front of the jury alongside undisclosed debt, insurance policies Eric reportedly had no knowledge of, and alleged signature forgeries. No single element closes the case. Together, they constructed something a jury of eight people who wanted to find innocence still could not dismantle in three hours of deliberation.Kouri Richins will appeal. Her attorneys have material: a denied venue change request, multiple mistrial motions that were rejected, evidentiary rulings contested throughout trial, and a coaching video. Jennifer Coffindaffer breaks down whether any of it has a realistic path to moving the verdict — and why Judge Mrazik's methodical approach of confirming Kouri's waiver of testimony and the defense's decision to call no witnesses directly on the record may have already foreclosed the most viable arguments.Still pending: twenty-six financial felony charges in a separate case involving mortgage fraud, money laundering, and bad checks. Sentencing on the murder conviction is scheduled for May 13th — what would have been Eric's 44th birthday. The verdict is in. The legal exposure is not close to over.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The Kelsey Fitzsimmons trial reached its most significant moment when Fitzsimmons herself took the stand and testified in her own defense. The former North Andover police officer — charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after a colleague shot her while serving a restraining order — told the court she never pointed her weapon at anyone but herself. That she was in crisis. That she grabbed the gun and raised it to her own head. That she pulled the trigger twice. That in the ambulance afterward she kept saying she was an idiot for trying to kill herself with an unloaded gun, and kept removing her oxygen mask because she still wanted to die.The prosecution's cross-examination was pointed: as a trained officer, she agreed that a person in mental health crisis with guns present is a danger to everyone in the house. A judge weighing intent will weigh that answer. The defense also called Noonan's neighbor, who testified under oath that Noonan called Fitzsimmons a "f---ing whackjob" in a conversation where she questioned why no social worker was present. Fitzsimmons's mother testified she heard the shots from downstairs and never heard her daughter say anything. Both sides rested. The site visit the defense had fought to secure was cancelled without explanation after Fitzsimmons completed her testimony. Closing arguments are next, with a verdict potentially arriving the same day. This episode covers all of it — and asks the question sitting underneath the legal proceedings that no verdict will resolve: at least one officer walked into that house knowing Fitzsimmons had been involuntarily committed for postpartum depression, and there was still no mental health professional anywhere in that response. Not because of negligence. Because the system was never designed to put one there. That failure happened before anyone knocked on the door — and it put everyone inside in danger.A verdict is coming. The larger question isn't.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? This week in Hidden Killers' Week in Review, we revisit the decision that, in retrospect, may have sealed the outcome. On Day 13 of the Kouri Richins murder trial, the defense rested without calling a single witness. Three were reportedly available. After a one-hour recess following the judge's denial of a directed verdict motion, the defense chose silence. Three hours of jury deliberation later, Kouri Richins was found guilty on all counts.Tony Brueski walks through Day 13 in full — the final cross-examination of Detective Jeff O'Driscoll, the legal framework that cornered the defense, and what that recess may have actually been about. Then Eric Faddis, defense attorney and former felony prosecutor, examines the three central pressure points of this trial with the precision of someone who has argued from both chairs. The drug use theory was dismantled on three fronts: a judicial ruling, testimony from Eric's own circle, and the toxicology record. The immunity witnesses — both of whom changed their stories — represented genuine prosecution vulnerability. A detective's recorded statements were turned against the state mid-trial. Faddis named every real problem the prosecution had. But the deception record was the thing the defense could never neutralize. Phone searches. Memes. A jailhouse letter written as a destruction instruction that became state's evidence. A forged insurance signature. Texts sent three days after Eric died asking for more fentanyl. The jury saw all of it. Three hours. Guilty on all counts. After a wild few weeks, Nikki & Brie are back on the mics, just the two of them. And there's so much to catch up about. From food poisoning and feeling like they had mono to realizing that their 20-year-old recovery days are officially behind them, the twins get real about burnout and listening to your body when it's screaming “rest.” They also dive into their Valentine's Day details, why they're not stressing about Super Bowl landing on February 14 next year, and the sweet and sometimes chaotic magic of motherhood. From Matteo's whale-watching adventure and Cathay Pacific obsession to Buddy's umbrella chivalry and Birdie giving up Taylor Swift for Lent, it's a full family catch-up with an unexpected grammar debate about “fish vs. fishes.” As they reflect on evolution, quiet eras, horsepower energy, and what it means to bloom where you're planted, Nikki & Brie leave you with a reminder to protect your peace and choose environments that water you instead of run you dry.
