Healing That Ends in Beauty: Plant Medicine & Conscious Integration with Dr. Richard Grossman, LAc, OMD – Episode 452   Ayahuasca doesn't hand you a cure; it unlocks the healer already inside you. The visions may fade, but the capacity for pure, unconditional love remains. In this episode, host Peter Fenger sits down with Dr. Richard Grossman, a licensed acupuncturist, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, and author of “Trust and Forgive: The Medicine of Your Life”. Dr. Grossman's lifelong dedication to the healing arts began in the wake of profound early trauma, sparking a fascination with the interconnected power of plants and the human mind. After training in Los Angeles and studying in Beijing under a World Health Organization program, he spent decades weaving together Oriental medicine, functional medicine, and deep spiritual practice. His extensive work with Ayahuasca and sound healing, shaped by years of study alongside indigenous shamans in Ecuador and Peru, has evolved into a unique synthesis of Amazonian shamanism, energy medicine, and multisensory ceremony. Today, Dr. Grossman guides individuals toward profound emotional, physical, and spiritual transformation, always rooted in a singular, core intention: helping others step out of suffering by discovering the source of joy within. Join us as we explore his journey from early trauma to a lifetime of healing, diving deep into the therapeutic dimensions of plant medicine, the role of sacred music, the integration of ceremonial insights, and how personal transformation ultimately contributes to collective healing.   For more information about “Trust and Forgive: The Medicine of Your Life” by Dr. Richard Grossman, please visit: https://www.amazon.com/Trust-Forgive-Medicine-Journey-Starts/dp/B0DCD87XN6 For more information about Dr. Richard Grossman and his work, please visit: https://heartfeather.com If you would like to subscribe to The Medicine of Your Life newsletter, please visit: https://heartfeather.substack.com/subscribe

Think working in mental health is just sitting and listening? The reality is a chaotic, high volume front line where workers face severe psychological crises every single day. In this episode, our host sits down with the author of “So You Want To Work in Mental Health?: The Good, the Bad, and the Unforgettable,” Cliffard Mayo, MBA, LAC, to pull back the curtain on what really happens behind closed doors for many mental health workers. Listeners will learn: Mental health workers are trained not to internalize a client's failures, and therefore often refuse to take credit for their successes. Nonclinical staff absorb crisis trauma but are often denied essential training and support. Empathy fatigue is where clients begin to feel like a rotation of numbers rather than people. Training vs. Reality: Academia teaches how to run a controlled, one-on-one clinical session, but often fails to prepare graduates for the volume, chaos, and emotional exhaustion of the actual field. Whether you are a professional working in healthcare or someone determined to understand the current, raw state of mental health advocacy, this conversation delivers the essential insights and perspectives you need. Hit play to uncover the unspoken truths of caregiving and learn how we can preserve the people who spend their lives saving others.    "School prepared me to be a therapist in a session [...] It didn't prepare me for handling the sheer volume of vicarious trauma, chaos, exhaustion." — Cliffard Mayo, author of “So You Want to Work in Mental Health?” Our guest, Cliffard Mayo, MBA, LAC, is an award‑winning author and behavioral health professional with a decade of direct care experience, including crisis intervention and residential therapy. Known for his authenticity and emotional intelligence, Cliffard blends professional expertise with deeply human storytelling to challenge stigma and inspire resilience. Our host, Gabe Howard, is an award-winning writer and speaker who lives with bipolar disorder. He is the author of the popular book, "Mental Illness is an Asshole and other Observations," available from Amazon; signed copies are also available directly from the author. Welcome to Academia Unlocked, our literary deep-dive series on Book Talk for BookTok! In this episode, we kick off our three-part series discussing Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice With over 13 years of combined academic training in literature and creative writing, we walk listeners through the foundational tools of reading beyond the surface. The book community talks about the "decline of literacy" constantly, but almost no one stops to define what literary literacy actually is or how to build it. This series exists to change that. One of the most common ways readers come to Interview with the Vampire is as a horror story. A man becomes a monster and spends eternity regretting it. But Anne Rice was doing something far more precise on the page: writing a confession that doubles as an elegy, for grief that couldn't be named, for love that couldn't be spoken, for a community already disappearing before the world had a word for what was taking it. This series is about making space for both of those readings at once. Whether you fell in love with Lestat on your screen, couldn't put the novel down at 2am, or only know Louis de Pointe du Lac as Brad Pitt looking beautiful and tragic, this series will give you the critical lens to engage with Anne Rice's world with more depth, more confidence, and a lot more to say. Following the Tick Report, Robert updates us on Trump's pattern in Iran of threatening escalation and then pulling back. Wisconsin unveiled its new procedures for dealing with BadgerCare work requirements in the Big Ugly Bill. But the Trump/Kennedy HHS's last minute changes to the final rule makes it much worse than the language of the bill, risking coverage for people with serious conditions such as life threatening cancer. With health care at risk for hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites, including people too frail to work, is Wisconsin prepared? We revisit the last minute budget gimmick engineered by the big hospital lobby, Evers, and Vos but disallowed by the Trump Regime. We dive into a new Brookings Report finding 45.5% of U.S. households did not earn enough to make ends meet. The report concludes that moving the needle on affordability requires action on both sides of the equation: lowering costs of living and dramatically increasing household incomes. We preview 4 newly scheduled $20 Wage Town Halls in Fond du Lac, Madison, and two in the Milwaukee area We close with an in-depth interview with Bryan Rogers, the environmental justice director at Milwaukee's Walnut Way. Bryan, who is a regular podcast listener, tells us more about Walnut Way and discusses why they are co-hosting a governor candidate forum on Saturday, June 27th, 10am at North Division High School. Bryan explains why their members are so deeply involved in fighting climate change and higher utiilty costs that fall disproportionally on predominantly Black neighborhoods in Milwaukee.

On Tuesday, a legion of screaming fans packed the Beacon Theatre in New York City – arms outstretched for the glittery, long-haired rock star known as the Vampire Lestat.Of course, in reality, the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt and his touring band don't exist. He's the creation of beloved horror writer Anne Rice. And this version of him, played by actor Sam Reid, is the lead of AMC's television adaptation of Rice's books. But for the fans who packed the Beacon Theatre this week, these distinctions are unimportant. And it speaks to a shared commitment between the fans of Rice's vampiric world and the actors and creators behind the series who strive to honor it.The third season of “Interview with the Vampire's” begins airing Sunday. It's a departure from the first two – which focused on Louis de Point du Lac, played by actor Jacob Anderson, his transformation into a vampire, and his rocky relationship with his maker. The third season puts Lestat in the driver's seat – his perspective, his music, and a peak into his 200-year backstory. We sit down with the series showrunner and the actors to discuss the show's third season, honoring Rice's vision, and rocking out as a vampire.Find more of our programs online. Interview With The Vampire - Literary Literacy

Today, we're speaking with Aleyna Morales. Aleyna grew up in the Twin Cities and Somerset, Wisconsin. Aleyna's heritage includes Ojibwe from the Fond du Lac Band community and Mexican. She is the creator and baker behind Baked to Bliss by Laney. You can catch her selling baked goods at the Carlton County Farmers Market. Aleyna shares how a need to pull herself out of the lowest point in her life led to taking classes and an interest in sourdough bread. She posted videos on TikTok, never expecting people to reach out and to buy her bread. A decision to attend a local entrepreneur meet-up led to an encounter with a neighbor who was starting a coffee business and, coincidentally, needed scones and muffins to sell to his customers. Together, these surprising turns of events, her gifts and the support of her community have allowed her to create a thriving baking business she calls Baked to Bliss by Laney. She also talks about what helps her to cope when times get hard and why believing in yourself is key to building a better life.   Aleyna is the mom of five children and lives with her partner in the Fond du Lac community.-----Hosts / Producers: Leah Lemm, Cole Premo Editor: Britt Aamodt Editorial support: Emily Krumberger Mixing & mastering: Chris Harwood -----For the latest episode drops and updates, follow us on social media. instagram.com/ampersradioinstagram.com/mnnativenewsfacebook.com/MNNativeNewsNever miss a beat. Welcome to June, it's Pride Month! We encourage our listeners to RSVP to Citizen Action's Annual Meeting this Saturday, at 10am. Robert gives us the latest tick report amid national concern about tick-borne illnesses. Spurred by global warming, tick activity continues to surge in Wisconsin while the national media descends on Martha Vineyard as the island is beset by ticks, and victims are forced to avoid red meat. Trump visits Western Wisconsin, the home of Wisconsin's pivotal Congressional District 3. Is he an anchor on embattled MAGA incumbent Derrick Van Orden and other Republicans on the ballot or does Trump know how to generate a massive turnout of MAGA voters? We dive into a critically important Wisconsin Health Assessment, a periodic report mandated by the State Legislature.Rarely do such radical findings come from an official state government report. This year's report finds that a stunning 1 in 10 Wisconsinites skipped needed health care due to cost. The report also contains shocking revelations on low wages, the growing unaffordability of housing, massive under investment in public education (especially in low income BIPOC majority schools), and a chronic under investment in public health. Will the next legislature act on this searing indictment of status quo policies or kick the can down the road? MASH union president Peter Rickman joins us to discuss the state health assessment, building worker power, and to update us on newly scheduled $20 Wage Town Halls in Fond du Lac, Madison, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, and more locations. We close with news that Boss Vos vows to try again on the failed surplus budget deal. With Governor Evers continuing to complain about the failure of the first effort, will they get another kick at the cat?
