Cryptocurrencies are a relatively new asset class. As we saw in Module 4, they’re not impacted by the same factors that affect other asset classes (interest rates, the yield curve, exchange rates). In fact, one of the great benefits of cryptocurrencies is that they’re uncorrelated to other asset classes. This means that a portfolio that has cryptocurrencies is more diversified than one that does not have cryptocurrencies. The share prices of commodity producers and consumers can also be affected by the movements in US dollars. Higher local currency earnings mean higher profits in local currency terms.
