But Elon and Tesla are just the tip of the iceberg. Sam Altman and Open A.I. have some how managed to convince of bunch of other rich people that giving them money to burn through is a good idea. Make no mistake. Openly lighting hundreds of billions of dollars on fire might actually be more useful and less damaging to the environment than the hundreds of billions of dollars being thrown at Open A.I to make a chatbot that is a slightly worse Google Chat and also might convince your kids to kill themselves. The financial numbers don't make sense. The products (that don't exist) don't make sense. The damage to the environment doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense. The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, has warned voters that she will need to make what she described as "necessary choices" to balance the books, in the Budget, three weeks tomorrow. She took the rare step of publicly laying out her thinking at Downing Street - a move that has been widely interpreted as preparing the ground for tax rises. Ms Reeves refused to rule out breaking Labour's manifesto pledge to not increase income tax, VAT or National Insurance. The Conservatives said the Chancellor had delivered a "laundry list of excuses" and did not need to put up taxes.

The flow of high-level Trump administration officials to Israel in the wake of the Gaza cease-fire agreement has sent a clear signal to Israel’s prime minister and his government, columnist Joshua Leifer said on the Haaretz Podcast. In a single week, envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived for an extended stay, followed by the first state visit of Vice President JD Vance. Secretary of State Marco Rubio followed on Thursday evening. For Leifer, “the bottom-line message to the world that the Trump administration is sending with these visits is ‘We don't trust Netanyahu to follow through on what he's agreed to,’ and they have a good reason to think that.
