In this environment, power availability is the most important factor in developing new data centers.In this inaugural episode of Alternative Disruptors, guest Alex Stoewer, CEO of Greenlight Data Centers, drives home this point. His new company develops 'right-size' data centers, with a speed-to-market approach, capitalizing on pockets of power across the U.S., especially in smaller markets, where it can deliver modern facilities without the constraints that hyperscale projects face."For the majority of data center functions, especially now with AI and GPU-based computing, it's really all about the power," Stoewer said. "The power is the real estate. If you go and gain control of a certain amount of power in a place where a data center is viable, in a place where the latency is reasonable, and you have all the other ingredients that you need—that power is the land, effectively."What's more, Greenlight actively avoids competing with big hyperscalers for that power by targeting locations where obtaining 20 to 50 megawatts quickly is viable. Profit is the result of a business. And there's nothing wrong with that,” Kless says. “I think profit is good, but it's the result. It's not the purpose.” Drawing from Benjamin Franklin and economist Russ Roberts, Kless explains that human flourishing has four domains: making people healthier, wealthier, wiser, or helping them live with more purpose.  When accountants work with customers across these four domains, they are not merely providing accounting services but are also facilitating transformations. In a recent episode of The Disruptors, Ron Baker explained Joe Pine's model for economic value, which Pine described in his earlier book, “The Experience Economy.” In this model, transformations are the most valuable of economic offerings.

Mike Maddock has launched seven companies, advised Fortune 100 innovators, and co-chaired the Gathering of Titans at MIT. In this episode, we unpack his Plan D: the mindsets, rooms, and questions that turn pressure into breakthroughs—and why your "ghost" might be your greatest edge. Key Points + Reflection Questions: See possibilities where others see problems. Disruptors reframe first, act second. Reflect: Where am I labeling something a "problem" that might be a doorway? Engineer the room. Great peer groups have diverse lenses: Operator, Strategist, Rainmaker, Visionary, Futurist, Orchestrator. If your room is lopsided, your answers will be too. Reflect: Which lens is missing on my leadership team? Outlaw advice; share experience. "Here's what I did, what happened, and what I'd do differently" preserves agency and truth. Many entrepreneurs can make money but still obsess over it. Systems create freedom; obsession steals it.
