How clean is your garage and does everything in it have a purpose? Often our garages are just filled with things that have no purpose or maybe had a purpose at some point but no longer does. As things sit in the garage that have no purpose, they collect dust, slowly rust, and get covered in spider webs. Purpose is important, not just for things in our garages, but for us as well. It gives us direction and meaning. This sermon looks at Titus 2 in which Paul shows us how we can find our purpose in the Gospel, no matter the season of life we find ourselves in. The purpose Paul talks about in his letter to Titus gives encouragement to Christians of all ages how to live our lives with a Gospel Purpose that drives our spiritual growth and importantly helps spread the Good News. This sermon is preached by Chris Vincent, one of the elders at OCC.

I think we can all identify with the feeling of having lost something. It can be inconvenient, frustrating, sometimes even scary depending on what was lost. If the thing that was lost is important then we will spend time looking for it and we will be so excited and relieved when we find it. This sermon looks at Luke chapter 15 where Jesus tells three parables about things that are lost. In each we see the heart of Jesus for those who are lost, the effort God has put into finding those who are lost, and the joy the Lord feels when those who are lost become found. Through these parables there is a question and an invitation for those who are lost. God has provided a way to be found, but we must realize that being found by God is better than wherever we might be in our lostness.

Have you ever had to save up for something? Maybe it was a new house, or a car, or just some big purchase that was important to you. The discipline to save money is difficult. Every purchase becomes a decision about what is most important. When we are saving up to buy something we are aware of these constant priority decisions, but the truth is that we are making these decisions all the time without even realizing it. How we spend our time, our money, or even our emotional or mental energy speaks volumes about what we consider to be most important. This sermon looks at Luke chapter 14 where Jesus challenges the people of his day about the way they determine what is most important. He also emphasizes the invitation that God gives to us to be his children and citizens of his kingdom. Like the people of Jesus' day, we often let other things get in the way or take a higher priority than trusting and following Jesus. Jesus challenges them, and us, to truly count the cost of following Jesus and to always consider that being a follower of Jesus is of greater importance than anything else in this world.

There was a shop my wife and I went to when we were dating that had a "going out of business" sign in front. We went in and looked around. We even bought some things for a great price since they had reduced their prices because they were going out of business. There was a sense of urgency, like we had to take the offer now because soon it would no longer be available. I was a little suspicious when I saw that shop a year later and they were still "going out of business." I grew even more suspicious as that going out of business sale lasted for several more years! Businesses understand that people feel a sense of urgency when there is a limited time. This sermon looks at Luke chapter 13 as we continue our sermon series on the Gospel of Luke. In this chapter we see how Jesus taught a sense of urgency because of the fact that God's kingdom was coming. We have an opportunity now to repent and turn to Jesus for salvation, but this time is limited because the kingdom is coming soon.

Expectations are tricky things. We put our expectations on other people, on situations in our lives, even on ourselves. Something that happens might be good, but if it doesn't meet our expectations then we might not see the goodness in it. This sermon looks at Luke 12:13-59. In this passage, someone comes to Jesus with an expectation that Jesus will do what he wants. He expects Jesus to make his life better by solving a dispute with someone else. The problem is that this person's expectations are defined by this world and by expectations of what is needed in this world or what will make him happy in this world. Jesus uses this as an opportunity to teach all who are listening that there is a "Great Divide" between the expectations of this world and the perspective of what God is doing in eternity. Followers of Jesus need to understand this great divide and the great difference between the priorities of this world and the priorities of the kingdom of God.

One of the hardest parts of being a lifeguard is staying alert. It is easy to let your mind wander after sitting for several hours in the hot sun watching others have fun in the water. But a good lifeguard must always be aware and alert to anyone in distress. Our lives are similar. We get lulled into complacency by our routines or the constant distractions in our lives. This sermon looks at Luke 12:1-12 where Jesus warns his disciples that there is something important that they must always be aware of and be guarded against. I pray we will hear how we still need to be on our guard against this issue today.

Have you ever been in a dangerous situation where someone shouted "watch out!" This phrase is a warning that you are going in the wrong direction or something dangerous is heading your way. It is a call for action - something needs to change or something bad is going to happen. But what if the thing we need to watch out for is us? What if it is our actions or attitudes that is the danger? Not many of us like to hear that we may be wrong. So if we get a warning about something we are doing we tend to blow it off and justify why what we do is right or at least not that big of a deal. In Luke 11:37-54 Jesus tells people to "Watch Out!" He uses the word "woe" which is a warning that judgment is coming because of what someone is doing. It is Jesus saying "Watch out! Something needs to change!" I hope that by looking at what needed to change in Jesus' listeners, we see how we need to still hear this warning today.

Have you ever been caught up in the movement of a crowd? Sometimes this is literal, physical movement that pushes you in a direction. But crowds can move us in other types of directions as well. We can be swayed to change our beliefs, our morals, or the way we treat people. This sermon looks at Luke 11:14-36. In this passage Jesus interacts with a crowd of people made up of different groups. Some are amazed at the spectacle of what he does. Others are skeptical of his teaching. Others are even slanderous and say things against Jesus. We see how he interacts with these groups and are challenged to think about whether we are just following the crowd or if we are willing to break out of the crowd and follow Christ.

This sermon is given by Ethan Hunt. Ethan and his wife Grace and their three little children are a new missionary family that Orchard is supporting. Ethan talks a little about their plans for their missionary work and then preaches on Psalm 78.

There is a famous saying that states, "The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing." It is important in life to keep the most important things in the place of utmost importance in our priorities. But how do we determine what is most important and, if we can make that determination, how do we keep that thing our highest priority? This sermon looks at Luke 10:25 - 11:13. In this passage we see Jesus interacting with an expert on the Old Testament Law, a pair of sisters, and his disciples. In each of these three encounters there is an emphasis on what is most important. I pray that this passage challenges us to make sure that we keep God as the main thing in our lives.

Some jobs are harder than others and some bring more joy than others. This sermon, called "A Difficult but Joyous Mission," looks at Luke 10:1-24. In this passage Jesus sends some of his followers on a mission. It is a difficult mission and he warns them that they might struggle along the way. But ultimately he reminds them that God is the one in charge of their mission. As they step out in faith to spread the gospel, they experience great joy! We look at how we still face the difficulties of this mission and how we need to be reminded of the joy to be found for those willing to serve and the comfort of knowing God is sovereignly in control of the outcome of this difficult, but joyous mission.
