Psalm 110 may at first appear to be a riddle for modern readers of the Psalms. The chapter is, however, a cornerstone text for the New Testament. Psalm 110:1 is quoted or alluded to over 20 times. We need to consider why this text was a favorite of the New Testament writers and see how we can be spiritually nourished from the wonderful promises of Psalm 110. Distraction can destroy the Christian from being effective for what matters most. In today's episode, I'm praying through Psalm 2. Don't let distraction keep you from what matters most. As Daniel Henderson says in Old Paths, New Power, "The devil does not have to destroy a Christian leader; he only has to distract him."If you'd like to find out more about the podcast and other resources to help you pray, check out my author page, matthewcbryant.com. Daniel 6 provides some incredible principles for prayer. The focal point of Daniel 6 isn't how to develop a prayer life, but the principles are worth drawing out. Today's episode draws out some of these principles and models praying with an open Bible. For more on this principle of praying with an open Bible, check out my blog post, "I struggled to pray...but something changed."As I'm preparing to preach this passage on Sunday, Sidney Greidanus's Preaching Christ from Daniel has been invaluable. COVID-19 has sparked a series of questions regarding who has the authority to do this or that. The central point of discussion for this series of episodes is "Who has the authority to determine when, where, and how the church assembles." To take on this topic, I've invited Caleb Byrd to join me in discussing this vital question. In part 3 of 3, we'll look specifically at the "when, where, and how" of the church's assembling. Can we do church online? What is the purpose of our gathering? We'll explore these questions and more. For more information and resources from Matthew C. Bryant, check out matthewcbryant.com. COVID-19 has sparked a series of questions regarding who has the authority to do this or that. The central point of discussion for this series of episodes is "Who has the authority to determine when, where, and how the church assembles." To take on this topic, I've invited Caleb Byrd to join me in discussing this vital question. In part 2 of 3, we'll look specifically at what we mean by "church." Get ready for shameless references to The Avengers and banter between two Christian brothers seeking to submit to God's word on these matters. Thanks for listening.
COVID-19 has sparked a series of questions regarding who has the authority to do this or that. In today's episode, my guest, Caleb Byrd, and I take on the vital question: "Who has the authority to determine when, where, and how the church assembles." In part 1 of 3, we examine from the Word of God what we mean by authority, who has it, and how to move forward in prayer for our God-given authorities in the state. COVID-19 has sent a myriad of questions and opinions to the television and social media regarding this question. Some have not realized this is the question they are answering or challenging. But it is a vital question for the church. The vital source for answering such a question for the Saints in Christ Jesus is His Word.
What is our hope of praying amid our brokenness and sin? In today's episode, I take on some famous song lyrics that seem to lack biblical accuracy. When Jesus became our sin for us on the cross, Did the Father turn His face away? Did heaven turn away? Why did Jesus pray "My God, My God, Why have you forsaken me?" How does this impact our prayer? The first part of Psalm 22 gets a lot of attention on good Friday. What if I told you it has just as much to do with Easter Sunday! Let's dive into the Word to see!
In today's episode, I continue to model my number one tip for a more consistent, joyful, and biblical prayer life. I also look at how to pray in the face of fear and death from our example in Psalm 23. Thanks for joining us!
In today's episode, I'll give you my number one tip for how to pray in a way that's more biblical, joyful, and consistent. We'll be addressing the question of how to pray in moments of crisis and uncertainty, all from the example of Psalm 23.
