At the wedding in Cana Jesus revealed His heart and intentions toward mankind. He used the stone pots and turned water into wine. The stone pots were durable and not porous like the clay pots. They wouldn't add impurities to the wine. If you are willing God will change you from clay to stone so you can hold His Spirit.

“Nuts and Bolts” - Listen at your peril, but there is an encouragement at the end. Thank you. I really enjoyed the energy of last year's October Surprise month, and the feedback was positive. (The whole message explains why we are doing "nuts and bolts," and there's an encouragement at the end today. So for Season Seven, at least to begin with, we are going to use the same format as we do for our October Surprise month. We will produce three episodes a week in a shorter format. We will test this format to see if it works for heavier content topics and how you all like it. So For instance, we are redoing our signature episode and breaking it up into short segments as long as I have self-control. (LOL our loud) That will come out soon. After that, for new listeners who are trying us out, we will republish all the segments on the same day, so the new listeners can take in as much of that episode as they need to get a flavor of the podcast. I know it doesn't always sound like it, but there is a study that goes into the "heavier content" episodes. To stick to this schedule, we will alternate each week, or at the end of each series, typically Devotionals or other "lighter content." Prayerfully, this will allow for a thorough study of the "heavier content episodes." In our nuts and bolts episodes will also include some new aspects of the ministry: Our extra prayer encouragements. 1. Prayer journals, such as the "Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer." It is available on Amazon; just search for the title. 2. We will highlight why and how a prayer journal can help foster your prayer life. 3. We are in the process of creating a 2025 prayer journal right now; we will announce it in two weeks. 4. Wearables - No, not the tech kind! We have some t-shirts and other items to promote prayer. through graphics. You will be able to visit the website www.freerangepreacheronprayer.com and get information on the products Caution! One of the reasons I am doing the "Nuts and Bolts" episodes, well the two reasons, 1. To keep the main episodes short. The workings of the podcast should not impede our goal. 2. This is a faith-based ministry, and not to make money. We receive donations occasionally, even when I don't highlight the donation tab because money is not why we do the podcast. Our goal is to help as much as God ordains Christians in our prayer lives. If I didn't use a journal system myself, I would not advocate their use. The next, "Nuts and Bolts," discusses the advantages of using a journal, but not today. Today, a thought occurred to me that I want to end with. In his sermon titled "WhyPray?" Ligon Duncan tells us that no Bible character ever asks that question. None. I add that they believe in the Bible prayer, period. Second I remembered John 21, at the end of the chapter, no need to go into more detail than this, Peter is asking Jesus about His will for the apostle John, and Jesus says, "Jesus *said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" In verse 22. I said to myself today that I have asked all kinds of questions about prayer, doubtful questions at times and curious questions at other times. Of all the questions one might have about prayer, our Master and Savior say, "What is that to you?" You follow Me," and that means pray. Thank you for listening, brethren, let us obey. Brethren, let's pray for one another. Any Christian, young or old, new believer or seasoned saint, can have a powerful, effective prayer life by learning to pray the scriptures.
This episode is a sermon on the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) that was preached by Jackson Hankey on November 10th, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church in Park River, ND. The Lord's Prayer is perhaps the most well known and most repeated passage in the entire Bible. Yet, it seems that very few of us have really understood it and taken it to heart. Many of us, in spite of it's familiarity, have been entirely unaffected by it's meaning, especially in our own prayer lives. Yet, the Lord's Prayer in reality is a glorious manifesto of the heart of Biblical Prayer. At the same time, it is both wonderfully profound and remarkably simple. Surely, we would do well to learn about prayer from the Master himself, the Lord Jesus Christ. Nowhere else in the Bible do we find the command to "Pray then like this."
"The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen." 2 Timothy 4:18 This one verse helps us learn to pray as we walk through how using The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer can lead us to find God, our circumstances, and how we might intercede to God for ourselves and others through a mega-comforting concept from the promises of God. As we mature in our Christian lives, our sins, even ones we thought were insignificant or not a sin at all, are ones we continually repent of. We learn from Paul, led by the Holy Spirit, to take great comfort in knowing:" The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen." Even our own evil deeds, which can easily entangle us, are not beyond the reach of God's mercy. Let us give glory to God, whose mercies are deeper than our sins, and whose forgiveness is boundless. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." We are back today to be tutored again by the Holy Spirit in the art of prayer, as directed through The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer. As we diligently seek conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we long today to find where God is, what of our lives we might find in, and how we might worship, confess, give thanks and request of our King, Savior, and Teacher through Psalm 102:11-16 "11 My days are like a lengthened shadow; And I wither away like grass. 12 But Thou, O LORD, dost abide forever; And Thy name to all generations. 13 Thou wilt arise and have compassion on Zion; For it is time to be gracious to her, For the appointed time has come. 14 Surely Thy servants find pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust. 15 So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth Thy glory. 16 For the LORD has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory." Welcome to our supplemental series on using and encouraging The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer, a series of demonstrations using the Free Range Preacher's prayer journal. Reality: God's mercies have sustained me through this Christian sojourn through our conversation. The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer lay the Biblical underpinnings for our converse with Holy God and then provide opportunities to build on those underpinnings, leading us through the Psalms. Our So What? The Holy Spirit teaches us through the word of God: Prayer through examples. The discipline of daily prayer. The Spirit conveys the vibrant, affectionate language of heartfelt prayer. The Spirit teaches us the sincere vigor of prayer. Chiefly, the Spirit teaches of the God to whom we pray. We look at Psalm 55 and discover how we might answer the questions: Where is God in this passage? Is any circumstance of mine reflected in this Psalm? What is Psalm 55 leads me to worship, thanksgiving, confession, and supplication. "What a man is on his knees before God, that he is and nothing more." Robert Murray M'Cheyne Thank You, Jesus. Housekeeping, you can now buy "The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer" on Amazon books and Kindle; it is available in printed and ebook formats! If you are looking for a Biblical tool to begin, sharpen, or help others, please check out "The Foundational Blocks of Biblical Prayer." Today, we look at our Biblical prayers. There are precepts and commands covering prayer, the grammar of prayer we sometimes call it, but what of the tenor, or mood, or the affections that characterize our prayers? Our So What? Our prayers should be flavored with the Holy Ghost, and we humbly submit we might begin by flavoring our prayers with: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Galatians 5:22-24 Keep in mind that we concentrate on God's will for us, the eternal cause for which we have been destined. Glory to our Savior, Jesus the Christ. Learning From 35 Answered Prayers in the Bible Throughout the Bible, we see the heroes of the faith coming in prayer to God for all kinds of issues, But have you really studied just how they prayed? In this interview with Dr. Nathan Ward, author of _Our Eyes Are On You: A Study of Biblical Prayer_, we discuss what specific things effective prayers have in common and how our understanding of God's nature and attributes should inform our petitions.
About 2.5 years ago or so, French asked his mom for a Bible, not a kids' Bible, and she, of course, said yes. As he walked away, he told her, emphatically, "And I'm gonna read it!" The amazing part is that he was just starting to learn to read at the time, and he taught himself to read with that Bible! His only motivation for his work was his desire to read the Bible. Thank You, Jesus. It was fitting that French, whom I affectionately call Baby French, chose Psalm 4 as the psalm he wanted to read and learn about prayer from. This psalm, penned by David, offers some of the most comforting promises in the Holy Writ, providing solace and reassurance in times of need. "But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him." And "In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For Thou alone, O LORD, dost make me to dwell in safety." Psalm 4:3 and 8 French struggles a little with fears, especially at bedtime, so to know…well you can listen to French pray for his and our peace and praise from What a blessing! We are talking to my grand-babies again, well, not all of them at the same time, about using the word of God to help form our prayers. The practical portion of: "The Foundations of Biblical Prayer" does just that. I chose a psalm for Lincoln to read and then applied the questions in the journal to the psalm to learn about God and how the word of God very often reflects what we are going through and helps us use what God has revealed to us to form our communion with Holy God. On Lincoln's little heart for the days she was visiting us with her family was: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 After discussing the psalm, she wanted to use the Galatians 5 passage instead of the psalm. So we did! Lincoln now applies this passage to glorify the Holy Spirit, take encouragement for her soul, and give a sweet prayer for a friend to know this fruit through knowing Jesus. Lincoln can be laconic and often laments her Pops using too many words. Lol out loud, but her sincerity in applying this passage touched my heart. What a blessing! My grand-babies have been visiting the last couple of weeks, so I thought it would be a great time to have a little lesson on "The Foundation Blocks of Biblical Prayer" for children at this moment in their lives. I liked the idea of illustrating how one might use a prayer journal, following the format outlined in the "Foundations of Biblical Prayer," to learn and/or teach prayer. The last thing quickly: I was so blessed as I went through the journals, the kids, for a couple of reasons. The first is that the insights the kids came up with were theirs. They answered the questions with little or no insight given to me. Seven, in our run-through for the episode, jumped to his feet when he made the connection between, 'Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing;" Psalm 30:11a and the answer to his prayer, "Thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness" Psalm 30:11b It was such a joy for this old man to see him make the connection between his worried prayer and God's praise through His answer to that prayer. Seven applies: "To Thee, O LORD, I called, And to the Lord I made supplication: 9 "What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise Thee? Will it declare Thy faithfulness? 10 "Hear, O LORD, and be gracious to me; O LORD, be Thou my helper." 11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing; Thou hast loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness; 12 That my soul may sing praise to Thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to Thee forever." (Y'all have been here a long while, but we have just begun to acknowledge our listeners.) The answer to the question “Does God need our prayers?” Culminates in the glorious truth, that in His mysterious will, God does not need us but He conendsends to appoint us as ambassadors for Christ! “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.? 2 Corinthians 5:20 We cover briefly how and why ambassadors get their jobs, the trust they are given, and the responsibility they have to the king who sent them. Then through Paul, Timothy, Epaphroditus, Euodia, Syntyche, and Clement (it may be worth the listen to hear my pronunciation of those names.) we see the duty, glory excellency, and privilege of being ambassadors to the King of kings and Lord of lords.
