God's desire is truth in the innermost being Psalm 51:6 this is poignantly true in prayer. We look today at how infants and parents first communicate.Babies sometimes just need their parents. When they cry, often, they want mom or dad, and our presence, tone, and countenance soothe them. But they don't understand the words: “I love you.”When they are in danger, they need our protection through our presence, tone, and countenance. But they don't understand: Stop! That's Hot!In Jesus's initial lesson in prayer (Matthew 6), He warns us against meaningless repetition. God wants to hear sincerely from our hearts. Psalm 51:7: prayer from a broken and contrite heart. Psalm 62:8 and Jeremiah 29:12-13“‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 ‘And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 ‘And I will be found by you,' declares the LORD,'”Our So What?Trust, as an infant does, when they call out in cries, longing for closeness to mom or dad. Trust and be completely honest from the heart. Why do we pray—really? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef reminds us that the ultimate purpose of prayer is not self-fulfillment but the glory of God. Jesus Himself said He answers prayer “so that the Father may be glorified in the Son” (John 14:13). And even when God meets our needs, the goal remains the same: His Name honored and His goodness displayed. Dr. Youssef also tackles two common extremes believers fall into: Fatalism: “Prayer doesn't matter—God will do what He will do,” Manipulation: “Prayer makes God act like He wouldn't otherwise.” Scripture, he explains, teaches a better way: God is fully sovereign, and yet within His sovereignty He truly responds when His people pray with the right focus. That's why we must avoid two unhealthy attitudes—being afraid to ask God for anything, or treating Him like a “bellhop” who exists to serve our agenda. Instead, Dr. Youssef points to our identity as God's children: we can ask boldly, but we trust the Father to give what is best—just as good parents do (Matthew 7:11). Mature prayer sounds like Jesus: “Not my will, but Yours be done.” If you want your prayer life to deepen, this episode will help you realign your requests with God's glory and grow in faith-filled dependence. Prayer: Father, thank You that You want to hear from Your children and that You glorify Yourself as You meet our needs. I pray in the name of Jesus. “Nuts and Bolts” - Listen at your peril, but there is an encouragement at the end. Thank you. I really enjoyed the energy of last year's October Surprise month, and the feedback was positive. (The whole message explains why we are doing "nuts and bolts," and there's an encouragement at the end today. So for Season Seven, at least to begin with, we are going to use the same format as we do for our October Surprise month. We will produce three episodes a week in a shorter format. We will test this format to see if it works for heavier content topics and how you all like it. So For instance, we are redoing our signature episode and breaking it up into short segments as long as I have self-control. (LOL our loud) That will come out soon. After that, for new listeners who are trying us out, we will republish all the segments on the same day, so the new listeners can take in as much of that episode as they need to get a flavor of the podcast. I know it doesn't always sound like it, but there is a study that goes into the "heavier content" episodes. To stick to this schedule, we will alternate each week, or at the end of each series, typically Devotionals or other "lighter content." Prayerfully, this will allow for a thorough study of the "heavier content episodes." Ligon Duncan tells us that no Bible character ever asks that question. None. I add that they believe in the Bible prayer, period. Second I remembered John 21, at the end of the chapter, no need to go into more detail than this, Peter is asking Jesus about His will for the apostle John, and Jesus says, "Jesus *said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" In verse 22. I said to myself today that I have asked all kinds of questions about prayer, doubtful questions at times and curious questions at other times. Of all the questions one might have about prayer, our Master and Savior say, "What is that to you?" You follow Me," and that means pray. Thank you for listening, brethren, let us obey. The Lord's Prayer is perhaps the most well known and most repeated passage in the entire Bible. Yet, it seems that very few of us have really understood it and taken it to heart. Many of us, in spite of it's familiarity, have been entirely unaffected by it's meaning, especially in our own prayer lives. Yet, the Lord's Prayer in reality is a glorious manifesto of the heart of Biblical Prayer. At the same time, it is both wonderfully profound and remarkably simple. Surely, we would do well to learn about prayer from the Master himself, the Lord Jesus Christ. Nowhere else in the Bible do we find the command to "Pray then like this."
