In the book of Acts, author Luke set out to give us the history of the spread of Christianity from the earliest days in Judea through the provinces of the known world and onto Rome itself. It covered the ministries of Peter, Stephen and Paul and it is a most unique and remarkable book. In this installment of Vos Group, Camden Bucey and Lane Tipton explore Geerhardus Vos's treatment of “faith as the correlate of kingdom power” from pages 387–390 of Biblical Theology. Moving beyond vague spiritualism or self-generated “manifestation,” they unpack Vos's insight that faith is not a creative force but a receptive grace. Faith does not actualize the kingdom—it receives it. Christ's miracles reveal the omnipotent power of God in redemptive form—beneficent and gracious acts for the good of sinners. These miracles elicit trust not because of any magical quality in faith itself, but because they manifest the glory and compassion of the Redeemer who speaks them into being. Faith, then, is the Spirit-given response of the regenerate heart—a resting and receiving upon the miracle-working Christ who is both the author and perfecter of our faith. In contrast to modern distortions that treat faith as self-empowerment, Vos directs us to the true object of faith—Christ alone. Faith is entirely dependent on divine omnipotence and grace. It is the instrument by which we are united to Christ and brought to maturity in him, sustained by the same omnipotent power that once stilled the storm and raised the dead. 00:07 Introduction 06:32 Faith and the Kingdom 10:13 Faith Is the Corresponding Response to God's Power 12:26 Miracles Are Beneficent and Elicit Trust 16:57 The Power of the Word 22:59 The Elements of Saving Faith 29:12 Unbelief 34:24 Preaching Christ without Doctrine 37:01 The Offense of Unbelief 41:36 The Vocabulary of Faith 50:30 Conclusion

Al Nucciarone is the senior pastor of the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Israel. He is also the Middle East representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Pastor Al reflects on his first visit to Israel in 1978, how he's seen, Romans 8:28, God working all things for good in his life, leading a church where believers come from many nations and cultures, after tragic events like the murderous bus attacks in Ramot how he shepherds people through grief, as well as his call to preach Christ to both Jews and Arabs.

The Joseph story is well-known, but the hit musical's "technicolor dream coat" may have more influence than many realize. The challenge of this brilliant narrative is to bring out both moral lessons and the richness of the Gospel grace it proclaims as the plot illustrates much about the Lord's redeeming patterns. The Tron Church's Willie Philip helps us think through how to preach Christ from these chapters, not just using it as a springboard to Jesus but actually mining the richness of the text—which is about far more than Joseph!

Send us a textIn this episode, we discuss the challenges and blessings of preaching Christ at Christmas. There are only so many texts that speak about the Lord's first advent. But in those few passages, there is a wealth of theological truth. Every year, we have the privilege of preaching the birth of Jesus. We need not approach the Christmas season with fear. We can approach the season with confidence, knowing the Bible contains a vast repository of spiritual truth related to the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. This truth can transform December from being a time of wondering what we will preach this year into a time of how will I preach everything I have already seen. John 1:12 says, "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God."Merely knowing about Jesus or observing traditions isn't enough. To truly experience Jesus and receive all the blessings He paid for on the cross, you need to invite Him into your heart and become His dwelling place. This brings real victory, as God's presence in you overcomes all opposition. When you truly believe in Him and accept Him, you are given the right to become a child of God. This isn't just a title—it's a privilege and a new identity. Becoming a child of God means entering into a relationship where you are loved, provided for, and given access to everything that belongs to God. This right is not automatic for everyone; it is granted to those who receive Jesus as their Savior. Through faith in Him, you are no longer just a creation of God but become His beloved child, with all the blessings and promises that come with this divine inheritance. Have you listened to the preaching of God's end-time prophet and apostle, Apostle Renato D. Carillo? We'd love to hear how it has impacted your life. Are the Psalms individual isolated poems that have no connection to one another, or are they a unified, edited story that we are supposed to notice? Wyatt Graham answers these questions and more in this conversation about how to think deeply about the Psalms, and what sort of connections should we expect to see from one chapter to the next. Currently, he serves as the executive director of the Gospel Coalition Canada. He has spoken in a variety of ecclesial and academic settings and regularly writes a column called DeTrinitate for TGC Canada on the intersection of life and theology. Robertson, The Flow of the Psalms The best introduction to reading the Psalms as a book. Great place to start. Rydelnik and Blum (eds.) The Moody Handbook of Messianic Prophecy The Psalms essays are top-notch and closest to my view from anything I've read. Jim Hamilton's Psalms Vol 1 and Vol 2 (EBTC, forthcoming) Though Hamilton is heavy on typology, his is the best commentary that reads the Psalms as a book. Reardon, Christ in the Psalms He reads Jesus in every Psalm in the tradition of the Fathers. Quite devotional though and he doesn't defend his approach enough to convince the skeptical. On that note, Irenaeus' On the Apostolic Preaching, Augustine's Psalms commentaries, and Athanasius' To Marcellinus on the Interpretation of the Psalms are all incredible and show that what I'm saying about Jesus in the Psalms is far from new (even if I don't quite "get" everything they're seeing!) Mitchell, The Message of the Psalter The most impacting book on my interpretation of the Psalms. Incredibly provocative and unique. Dense though. Bates, The Birth of the Trinity Prosopological exegesis as practiced by the Fathers was the missing piece for me. Very dense though.
